The uns strata seiryu stone type 1 and type 2 are amazing , i have both of them and they look exactly like real seiryu stone which i also have mixed in my brazillian style 60u aquarium. Got a monte carlo dry start going with your guys contro soil and it is coming amazing. You guys have the best products in the hobby hands down.
Got a tank for myself on my birthday on July 2nd and have been doing a dsm in an iwagumi style for about 3 weeks now. and the root spreading is ridiculous in my dwarf hair grass. Currently breeding some rotala blood red to feed from the water column for the bonsai itself
@@UltumNatureSystems Really appreciate that. Can't wait for the future updates on this one. Convinced me to buy some more dwarf hair to fill in faster.
@@UltumNatureSystems the prime source of food isn't fertilizer, it's the bacteria in the soil. Sometime you can get lucky with the soil establishishing itself at a fast rate and you can have success planting UG in a fresh tank. But with a dark start your bacteria and microorganisms are already established and it's food source is ready immediately.
One of the most interesting comments I've read in ages! Considering UG is a bladderwort that feeds on microorganisms which in turn likely feed on bacteria, your explanation makes perfect sense. I've dry started UG in a Mr. Aqua 12L that was lit with two Current USA Planted LEDs. I had the tank covered in saran wrap for 8 weeks. The UG did extremely well and even continued to grow for a month after flooded. CO2 was injected via a Cerges reactor upon flooding. Then.... it slowly melted away. Have you kept UG for an appreciable amount of time as a submersed plant?
Hi, i recently started with planted tank and used the dry start method to have carpet plant HM(peral weed) and few other plants as well however introduced Java plant and the whole tank got infected with BBA and had to remove all the plants looking to setup similar carpet plant then i found your video i would want to go with UG does need CO2 injection or can i plant in my existing planted tank.
thx for mentioning abt mould, i left my cling film on all the time and as u'd guessed, mould grew more rapidly than my plant. I had to throw out the whole lot(aqua soil). Was it a waste? or can it be washable to reuse?
Hi! I just started dry start for 2 weeks with UG as well, but some of them getting mold. I found out that I covered the tank completely with wrap so maybe that’s the reason why plants got mold. But do you know how do I treat the mold? Or molds will eventually go away if the tank is less humid?
A tiny gap in the covering will help provide just a bit of air circulation. We have heard that a light misting of hydrogen peroxide will kill the mold without harming the plant.
What size are those shrimps? They look huge! Or maybe its the size of the tank thats throwing me off.. lol Looks amazing. I will try a dry start on my next setup. Thanks so much for this video :)
Hi, I just setup my 45U and is dry starting at the moment. My water is super hard (SoCal!) so I will likely use RO water. With Controsoil, my understanding is I only need to add minerals and GH but no KH. Can you clarify that please? I want to add shrimp (blue dream) when the tank is ready and cycled. Thanks!
You've almost got it! If you decide to use RO water you need to add everything back, even the kH. The soil buffers kH down from hard water with high kH to make the water softer, but does not buffer in reverse (making soft water harder).
I was just curious because terrestrial carnivorous plants require really pure water with no fertilizer. And the insects they eat are pretty much just a supplemental nutrition. I didn't know if it was the same for this particular plant. it's very interesting!
@@CazzyCat UG is tolerant of liquid fertilizers and higher tds in tanks. But really the important thing is to have the bacteria in the soil established.
Cool. It looks fake too! Fake is such a good look in aquariums. The neat thing about those plants is that they look fake, but they are real! These plants are carnivorous?! Are they going to eat my snails, shrimp, and nano fish? Will they eat the daphnia and baby brine shrimp I feed to my baby fish? I'm in the part of Alaska which is essentially an arctic desert. What do I want to do to dry start my plants up here? Also, what can I put on the rock to cover it up? Will buce grow on it? How about cryps? Will it accept glue without messing it up too bad?
@@UltumNatureSystems thank you! 😊 I want to try my first diy CO2 set up soon before I buy a canister and might do a dry start with either ug or another more demanding plant.

i can watch people aquascape all day
And you should! It's good for the soul.
Really great tutorial for a first timer like myself. You just broke it down to some real easy to understand steps.

I’m in Southern California as well this guide helped tons!!!
This is exactly what i am looking for.
Glad you found it!
Beautiful tank, can you please explain how you were able to just dump the reds in there? Wondering if they were already acclimated before. Thanks!
i want to see how you build that hardscape using resin and seriyu stone
I'd personally choose a dark start before planting UG than a dry start. Just yeilds better results.
Thanks for the tip! What aspects of the dark start do you think will contribute more success for the UG?

why ? they opted for a dry start ....

Hello, CO2 injection is highly recommended when growing Utricularia Graminifolia.
thx for mentioning abt mould, i left my cling film on all the time and as u'd guessed, mould grew more rapidly than my plant. I had to throw out the whole lot(aqua soil). Was it a waste? or can it be washable to reuse?
So is this plant considered an aquatic bladderwort ?
Nice share my friend, can I learn the name of the plant at the base?
Thank you. It's Utricularia Graminifolia!
Did you spray with RO water? Treated water?
what do you use to "spray" and wet the soil? what is the nozzle called and do you sell it?
Where can I get that hardscape model plzzz tell me ❤❤
can you plant ug in started aquarium already?
Yes you can, UG actually may even prefer a more mature aquarium in which the soil has less nutrients.

What lily pipes are you using? Are those the Aquario Neo Premium? Great content btw, more please!
Yes! We use the Aquario Neo Flow pipes on all of our aquariums.

@@UltumNatureSystems thanks for the replies. So, you would remineralize with something like salty shrimp gh/kh instead of just gh?
@ImSirp Some people mix a little tap water with the ro to bring the TDS to whatever number you require
How many hours of light per day?
We typically run our lights for 8 hours on average

I'm curious about a carnivorous plant in a tank! Would it feed in copepods or shrimplets?
It will take liquid fertilizers just like any other aquatic plant :)
Soil quality is more important than fertilizer. If propper soil health is maintained, you'll have good plant health.

Is CO2 required after a dry start?
Yes.
CO2 does not have to be injected because it’s already in our atmosphere
@@UltumNatureSystems I meant once the scape is flooded will it require CO2?
@@lakeshiamills1454 yes UG will benefit from co2 at that point.

Tank dimensions?
Length: 14.17"
Width: 8.66"
Height: 8.66"
Glass thickness: 5mm
Volume: 4 gallons
UG’s 😊
I'm confused. Every other Dry Start video I've seen says NO PLANTS UNTIL AFTER THE TANK IS CYCLED. So why are you planting???
There is a dark start which think you are referring too?
