Great video! If wear that style obi with the intricate patern showing it means you are married. If you wear it with the single line it means you are single. That is what i was told nearly 40 years ago by my great grandfather.
thank you very much for this video. I started Iaido recently, and this video is the only one I found on you tube, that really shows how to tie your Obi as my Sensee taught me at the Dojo. ありがとございます
@PsychoAMVproduction that is fantastic! I'm so glad it has helped you and so many others. Quite surprised actually lol. It was just a quick decision to record before I started training one day. I hope you check out more of my content and subscribe! 🙏
Woww this looks super cool and very easy to do! Did it for the first time and it's perfect like yours! 😅. Though I need to ask, it there any meaning in the different type of ways when tying the obi? For example, method 1 is for the leaders or something. I saw most people having the traditional pattern ones, but it's very hard to do.
Thanks! I'm so happy this video has helped you and many others. I do believe there are different ways to wrap and tie and obi for its intended purpose. Like for ceremony, holding swords or just to help to keep one's shirt or outer jacket closed. As far as how to wrap and tie the obi for a senior or junior in the hierarchy of a clan and the like, I'm not sure. Would be interesting to find out though. I sure appreciate you watching my video and I hope you check out more of my content and subscribe if you're not already 👍🏻
Nice. I still gotta watch a tutorial video from time to time.... Although I find the kaku loosens up fairly quick, so I usually use my iai obi or lazy obi (old cloth belt). Damn. You got that on faster than I could type this comment....

@@Katana-Karl yeah I had watched a very interesting video about how the Katana is placed in the obi and then tied up the pants . The exact placement is amazing and interesting

Hello, I like your video without words. I am French and translations are sometimes difficult. I have a question: How big is your obi? Mine is about 12.14 feet and I can't get to the same end as you, too long or too short 😅
Hello! Thank you for the compliment. I can not recall the length of my obi. But 12.14ft. sounds about right though. I do know that if you don't get the correct length in the very beginning, you will either have too much excess or not enough.
I did it but, well, is it bad if the end result or the last "tie" ends up on the inner side? If someone understands what I mean, I don't know what I did wrong
Wow bro ! Thank you for this . I watched a video the other morning about carrying your sword in it and tying it to the obi but this is some solid usable information . BTW , could you tell me an acceptable modern way to carry your swords ? Like tied to a loose military gun belt or something . A video tutorial would be much appreciated . Yeah , that might be a request lol .
Your welcome Donald Balck! As far as carrying a sword in a modern application like say to a loose military gun belt as you mentioned. I'm not sure. Your guess is as good as mine on that one buddy. The crkt Hisshou would work better because it has a kydex sheath that is compatible with the military's web gear. Ther would be a myriad of ways to attach it to yor pack, belt, tactical vest, etc. A traditional sword would be a bit more difficult. But could be done I suppose

@@hmuphilly9129 yes it does. The obi that I use is not elastic whatsoever. Does not stretch. This is probably why this method of trying the obi is not working for you.

It does not loosen to any significant amount. The ties of the hakama help with keeping the obi tight and in place.
