    I emailed 1Zpresso about the rubber sleeve and their response was this:
    "It is believable that the slip-resistant rubber may get looser if it’s dusty or oily. Kindly remove and wash the rubber band. There’s no glue on it, then put it back on the grinder. We expect the rubber would give a better gripping."
    I washed it and indeed it's better, but it's still not nearly as good as the grip surface on the 1Zpresso K-Plus grinder (yes, I have both).
    All in all I like the JX Pro, but I think the K-Plus and J-Max are worth paying more for, and if one is tight on budget the Kingrinder K4 is in my opinion the way to go. It costs less than the JX Pro, it's faster and has external grind size dial.

    If the rubber ruins the zen for ya, pull it off and put on a wrap of grip tape. Maybe ever so slightly less beautiful, but certainly very functional, and it will never slip!

    • @bartalks1810
      @bartalks1810  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmm, didn't think of grip tape. I pulled the rubber off and then it got too slippery to hold if my hands were wet. I could try adding something onto it, and a cloth kind of tape might do the job. It would give a grungy kind of look too. This is an idea for a future video. Bonus points to you.

      @@bartalks1810 How about putting some kind of grip type tape on the grinder and then put the 1Zpresso sleeve back on over the grip tape. Anything would slide less than smooth aluminum.

    Tactile! Yeah instead of the rubber sleeve they should have cut a very clean knurled pattern into the metal. This would make it nice and grippy as well as extremely durable.

    • @bartalks1810
      @bartalks1810  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      absolutely. It works fine without the sleeve, unless your hands are wet, and then it slips. A knurled pattern would have solved that problem, been more durable, and looked better. I'm leaving the rubber off though - it's just annoying me.

    Big hands here, the rubber sleeve does slip, so I tend to wrap my mits around everything, bottom cup included, so it doesn't unscrew. I like the idea of a rubber gasket for the cup though.
    Really like that grinder. And yes, if you keep on changing your grind settings, it's not the easy at all. I tend to reset to zero and recompute when I change the settings (French Press Aeropress). And settings are not perfectly 'zeroed'. Bit of retention around the burrs, not much retention in the cup.
    When putting beans, you need to shake it a little, they tend to get stuck on the top, no biggie.
    Not perfect, I suspect a lot of the issues are inherent to manual grinders anyway (Commandante, ect...). Solid piece of gear for me, not going anywhere.

    I find it easiest to remove the outer burr by keeping the catch cup attached and tightening down on it. You get much better leverage against the reverse threaded upper burr carrier. And I agree that the rubber sleeve slipping is annoying. Super glue under the sleeve didn't really help, I may try some silicone.

    • @bartalks1810
      @bartalks1810  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like a sensible idea. I'll give that a go when I get the next bag of beans in. Don't want to waste any coffee re-calibrating it right now.

    "I'm zen baby" lol. I feel the same way too. I've had a long history with hand grinders and I do miss hand grinding. I had the Lido E, JX Pro, Niche Zero, and now have the DF64. I'm looking into buying another hand grinder just for the days I want it to be quiet.
    edit: I thought I might add why I sold off my JX Pro. I was experimenting with a lot of light roasted beans and for espresso hand grinding that sucks ass. So I moved on to the DF64 and have SSP burrs otw. I still miss the ritual of hand grinding and might just keep it for med-dark for espresso, or pour overs.

      I've also had the baratza encore, breville smart grinder pro, and have a lagom mini on order........ I'm actually very satisfied with the DF64 and SSP HU burrs. It really upped the taste vs the steels. I have the mini on order for filter.......... or for decaf..... Or because its aesthetically pleasing.... Dont judge me!

      @bartalks1810  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like to think of it as a last desperate attempt of those beans to avoid being grinded. I respect that and salute their determination. Then I give it a shake or use a rocket blower and send them to their doom.

    The silicone sleeve bags out with ageing and exposure to oils from one’s fingers. Agree that it’s a bad material choice for long term.

    You really must have done your work since the rubber sleeve has gotten so loose. Totally give you two thumbs up for that one. Have you actually tried grinding beans without the sleeve on ? I am kind of curious to know if you are able to get a good grip on it. I really enjoyed this review very much and yes I do own a JX Pro.

    • @bartalks1810
      @bartalks1810  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tim, I did try without, but it was worse. I've gone back to putting it on and gripping harder. I find it I get a quick amount of speed going early on I can keep the momentum going. When I slow down and it gets stuck, that's when the sleeve slips. I still love it though - used it just this morning :)

    I can second the issue with the bottom compartment getting undone and rattling. That can be fixed by adding a rubber gasket. They should really include that from the factory, as it's a cheap and easy fix.
    And yeah, the outer burr was really, really hard to undo on mine too. Took some muscle. Had me worried I might damage it.
    It's got a really rather fine reverse thread which is very easy to over-tighten - as I found playing around with it after getting it off the first time. So really takes some care when putting it back on.
    For the money though, it's really an excellent grinder and one of the fastest out there, so, regardless of the small technical niggles, I really can't recommend it enough.

    How does this grinder work for you after removing rubber sleeve? Is lacking it making any trouble or discomfort to grind with it? I consider buying it and I wish I have it for a looong time and 1 year is not that long
    I actually like how it looks without the rubber sleeve

    • @bartalks1810
      @bartalks1810  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      not so good Mateck. I found if my hands were wet at all they would slip on finer grinds. Keep the sleeve on or buy a different grinder the Mazzer Omega when that comes out. It's a good grinder though, don't let me put you off about the sleeve.

      @hiflyer53qwc now wouldn't that turn out to be embarrassing if I had only tried one way :). It's hard to tell which way though, when it won't budge no matter what. However, I've discovered the problem. After writing to 1zpresso, they've confirmed they a minor issue with a batch after discovering that a new ex-Disney employee they hired, Popeye, had been consuming spinach before assembling the parts, which resulted in an enthusiastic overtightening. They said they've conducted training of the employee and Popeye has acknowledged that he can only eat can's of spinach on his lunch break.
