    Thanks so much, Nick! I've been waiting 3 months for this review and it was worth the wait. You really show that you took the time to use the machine and get into a workflow and understand how it works with or against your preferred ways of making coffee. The vast majority of reviews out there don't do that! They get the machine, unbox it, use it for a couple of days and play around with the features, then pack it up and ship it back. That tells me nothing about whether I actually want to own one of these things and make it part of my life! Anyway, apart from your coarse grind lungos (1:3.5), how often do you find yourself playing with the flow control paddle? I just passed a year with my Lelit MaraX (and had to crack the thing open to replace the anti-vacuum valve and repair some leaky seals on top of the boiler, as well as run a full descaling which took a couple of hours) and I'm wondering whether it would be worth it to pick up the flow control kit and mod my machine into a "baby Bianca". My chief point of hesitation is that I'll get lazy and just end up setting the paddle to full open all the time and lose the entire benefit of doing the upgrade. What do you think?

      Thanks so much for the kind words Chong Li, I use the paddle for almost every coffee I make. It's no hassle - puts you very much 'in the moment', which I like. As I mentioned people with different use cases to me, might not find it as useful. Here's an example of my coffee routine. 4am - double espresso before I do my yoga. I'll go with a regular 14g basket, getting a 30g shot. I go with 5 second pre-infusion, and ramp down at the end using the paddle. 6 or 7am, feeling like I need a pickup, but don't want to get a buzz on an empty stomach, I'll make a single shot cappuccino, using the paddle again to control the extraction (depends on what coffee I'm using). Breakfast at 8am, I want a bit more coffee to slurp, so I'll make the lungo thing. My favourite is an ethiopian coffee from my friend Gerald at Peaberry roasters. It makes an amazing lungo - 75 grams + from 18g of coffee.
      I'm still playing with different coffees to find a great recipe for each of my favourites. In short, I use the paddle almost 100% of the time.

    Very straight forward review. Appreciate all your time spent to share your thoughts and feelings unwrapped. The way you admire positive emotions V3 gives you after months of daily use gave me the confidence to get up from sofa and get one today ) although it will be a third one on the kitchen but other two (Breville models) are not able (or lets say, I am not able) to get me THAT CUP of espresso you really close your eyes to enjoy the first bit.

  • @Drift-yf4rn
    @Drift-yf4rn ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Are you sure the extra steam power wasn't the result of someone adjusting the steam temp? Could have been the installers testing it? It doesn't make sense that plumbing it in would change the steam pressure, but you can definitely increase the pressure through the control panel.

    Great and thorough review. Thank you. How would this compare to the VBM Super Digital DUAL PROFILER Dual Boiler Espresso Machine. It seems it has the ability to adjust the pump output as well as the flow on the fly. Do you have any opinion?

    • @bartalks1810

      Not had any hands on with the VBM. They seem to be offering a lot of value. I'm a little 'unfairly' suspicious of how good all those features will translate in practice - and in the photos it looks like some of the materials are maybe a bit cheaper. But I'd love to be pleasantly surprised, and if it was my money, I'd be really tempted, but I'd like to put my grubby hands on it first.

    Great review! If you had the ability to purchase the Rocket R58 Cinquantotto for $1,000 less than retail, would the Rocket be a better value proposition than the Bianca? I'm in the USA and I can purchase the Rocket machines with the 110v plug from a company in Italy at substantial discounts to US retail pricing. Unfortunately, the Lelit isn't available in the 110v version, so I would have to purchase that from a US based seller and pay full US retail of $3k. The R58 with no VAT or duties would cost me around $2,300 instead of the US retail of $3,350. That's a significant difference in price. I know from watching your other video that there were some annoyances you had with the Rocket, but if you were in my situation do you think the Rocket would be a clear winner? I can get both of the Cronometro R versions for even less than the R58 but I don't know if I want a heat exchanger machine when I can just get the dual boiler for not much more money and be done. Just curious what your thoughts are having used both the Bianca and the R58. I'm coming from a Gaggia Classic Pro that I'm loving but I'm already getting the urge to upgrade it.😂

    • @bartalks1810
      @bartalks1810  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ooh, that's a tricky one. The answer may lie in the way you make coffee. Is it just you, or does the whole family use it? The Rocket is easier to use and to change settings. The main thing on the LELIT which is a deal killer for me, is the flow control. But my kids who use it, tend to ignore the paddle. So, if it's just you, and you plan to develop your palette around lighter roast coffees, then you might get another itch a year down the road. OTOH, if you like medium-dark roast espresso, or prefer milky drinks, then the Rocket will serve you well. It's also easier to use, so if your family all want to get involved, I think they might prefer it. The final question is over support. If you can get good local support for the Rocket, then this shouldn't be overlooked. Either way, they're both great machines, and a big step up from the GCP!

      @@bartalks1810 Thank you so much for your insights and thanks for taking the time to give me some great things to think about. Based on your comments, I think the Rocket R58 Cinquantotto will likely be the winner for me when I'm ready to take that next step. Right now I'm the only one using it, as my wife is more of a tea drinker and my boys are too young to drink coffee, but every once in awhile she would like me to make her a single shot latte with steamed plant based milk. Steaming oat or almond milk is definitely harder with the GCP than full fat dairy milk! We sometimes have company over that will drink coffee and it would be nice to have such a capable machine as the Rocket at the ready. It's also beautiful. I like to work on my own appliances and electronics, and luckily there is an authorized La Marzocco and Rocket dealer here in my city. If something were to happen and I couldn't resolve it myself, I'm sure their service technicians could work on it for me.
      I really enjoy medium roasts and so far I'm only making flat whites and lattes for myself. I haven't mastered the GCP process enough to be able to really get consistent espresso shots yet, so I find that milk drinks are much more forgiving. I have a Eureka Mignon Specialita grinder so it will definitely be a good complement to any machine that I upgrade to.
      With all of that in mind, I think I'm sold on the R58 Cinquantotto! Thanks again for your time!😁

    I’m no expert but can’t see how plumbing in changes steam wand pressure. I’m assuming the steam boiler is pressurised and after water or steam is drawn it refills under pressure from the pump. I struggle to see how anything other than temperature in the boiler can change the pressure and therefore impact the steam output.

    • @bartalks1810
      @bartalks1810  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's hard to give an honest reply Henry, because I've not had any issues. But unlike the supply problems that happens sometimes in the US, I think getting parts won't be a problem here in the UK. It's a popular machine too, so I'd expect there to be support for it from the dealers who sell them. However, if mine went wrong, depending on what it was, I'd just call up Adrian from 'Give it the Beans' and ask him to fix it for me. If you look at the things that might break, it will mainly be getting the parts and then knowing someone who can fit them. The main exception being the electronics, but even this I think shouldn't be hard to replace.
      Remember too, this is third generation, so if there was a major design fault, I expect we'd have found it by now. I feel that by writing all this positive stuff, I'm probably jinxing it for you 😂
