Interesting watching from Australia as a licenced technician. Inground bait stations cost way more than liquid treatment here. I would be interested in comparing prices

My mother who is a widow on a very fixed income had termites. I with the help of your video used the Taurus SC. With no skill level or abilities of any kind trenched around the house and eliminated the termites in I swear 3 days they were gone.
Termites leaves pheromones. You may have killed the colony this year but, they will be back. A swarm will sense the pheromones and come back in the future.
@@KuuterrTaurus SC lasts for about 10 years. Longevity degrades in wetter climates but even so, in heavy rain area's you're looking at re-treating every 5 years to be safe. Which is what we recommend in the company I work for given the place I stay...

I did my homework before contacting a pest guy. Every one of them tried to sell me the subscription service, AND anything they planned on doing was a poor excuse for proper coverage. I ended up doing it myself, and now I know I am covered. Thanks for confirming the big pest companies are just to take your money.
Full disclosure, according to the department of Ag, a liquid treatment lasts up to 10 years before needing another restorative treatment. Its' still 60-70% cheaper over the course of that ten year period than maintaining a bait system.
Dan, I saw a video of yours you recorded 2 years ago and you said these termite statios works well. Now you said the opposite. I'm really confused for what you said on this video. Thanks
Your 6 years in the pest management industry means you still have a great deal to learn. I've only got 46+ years and I know enough to know that I don't know everything, but one thing I do know is that termite baits eliminate the colonies, not just put down a barrier that hopefully the termites don't penetrate. Baiting for termites is a much better option that liquids and is much more environmentally responsible.
Company I work for we do both when the client has issues with termites and by itself as a preventative service. I have seen 0 issues with the homes that have these alone as a preventative service.
Termites as a whole species are dying because of how effective Termidor is and it’s only been out for 2 decades Bait stations are a revenue maker your customers only need the liquid tbh
@@jonathanhutchinson6669look up insect populations and their decline if you don’t believe me Termites on the other hand are not public knowledge we use to do 100+ treatments per year now we do a dozen or so per year They’re population is clearly declining atleast in suburban areas
@DBFOutdoors Yea they work over time! I never said they didnt work over time, pest companies just charge sooo much for them and they don't work quickly
I live in Ohio. I nearly got scam by my pest control company that I was with for about 4 years. They wanted to charge me $1500 to install the Sentricon bait stations around my 1250sqft home. This was a "discounted" price also since I was already a customer. Plus $60 per month for 2 years for the warranty ( He did not mentioned this. I just happened to have read it.). They used several scare tactics to get me to sign. Such as "the house down the street needed $30K in termite damage repair". I ended up signing but after thinking about it overnight and doing a little research I canceled the contract the next day ( had a 3 day cancel window). In fact I completely canceled all my pest services from them. I ended up DIYing it with trenching and using a 78oz bottle of Taurus SC for $100. It was back breaking and time consuming but well worth it.
I had a house need 30000 dollar repair due to no termites finding the stations fir 2 years but managed to be under a rock about 3 inches from the garage
Exact same spiel from my guy in Virginia. "a "discounted" price also since I was already a customer." $200 off $1,000. Elderly and on a fixed income. SHAME in those guys
I live on Long Island NY and have been commercial applicator since 2008. Now I have no beef whatsoever with your video. For me personally, I do more servicing of Advance termite bait stations from previous exterminators who no longer do the service for whatever their reason may be. I do more of the Advance termite bait station than chemical barrier treatments. Again, personally I tell my customer the entire shpeel on different ways of managing their termite issue, but more times than not it comes down to dollars and cents with them. I am not a pushy used car salesman, so explaining their options, and allowing them to decide what fits their budget generally works for me, and of course there have been times where I have chosen to walk away from certain situations that were counter-productive to running a legitimate business. I like your videos, keep up the great work.
Hey I have neighbors use them but end up breaking while installing or run them over with lawnmower. Just for experimenting purposes I placed pieces of wood on the ground around my house. Within several weeks in spring/summer termites were on underside eating away.
I have a rental house which was built in last year. I got a call from a termite company saying they placed termite base stations and now need to have maintenance service for $360 per year. if I choose not to have the service, they said they will remove the base stations. I just wanted to check and research and I come across with your TH-cam. And I am glad I checked it Your information was exactly what I wanted to know! Thank you so much!
This 100% has an agenda due to Sentricon pissing you off. Bait stations are needed if liquid application is impossible. It's still better having something than nothing. Bait should ALWAYS be secondary. If it's just the money situation, I don't charge for station checks, I offer that as a free service on top of other services or part of the initial implementation. But if I need to replace Bait, I charge. I liked your channel, but this is just making pest controllers who have tried to help their clients look bad. This video will always come up whenever I recommend bait stations in the future. So thank you, now I have to try and protect someone's home, where liquid can't get to. Like their prize-winning garden beds against their home. Try convincing them to trench up their garden 😂 they'd rather have termites eat their house then have anything hurt their garden.
Termites eat wood, paper, cardboard, cellulose They’re not going to eat a customers Marigolds, home grown peppers or their tomatoes… Rats will do that not termites…
@MirkwoodPestControl I don't really have an agenda. I don't hardly make any money from these videos and none of my potential customers are watching this haha! What would my agenda be?? That's great that you don't charge for checking them! I just rod if they have a nice garden bed or landscaping. And hahaha don't give me too much credit! I think most people won't watch my video before calling you. Good Luck out there!
I cant believe you guys would take his word for it. He has a video on a liquid treatment on a house with active termitres and he doenst drill the patios that are connected to the house. He claimed he followed state laws, I cant think of one state that would allow a company to put a house on contract without a full treatment Most of all Dan is being paid by Control Solutions, thats why he always mentions Taurus and not Termindor SE and you can forget about him talking about Termindor HE, which is a better product because Control Solutions doesn't make it yet
@Give_us_the_emo_shit_Jarren I didn't know he was sponsored by them . I've stopped using taurus , it makes no sense on termites with better liquid products available. And with ants there is better ,cheaper and less restrictive products on the market
@gr8fulnbama439 Taurus and Termidor are very similar products. Termidor just marks their prices up because they can. Drilling patios is such an old school thing haha! In my opinion, drilling is not necessary. especially if you just treat around the porch. Taurus and Termidor both eliminate the colony so there's no point in drilling everything! I am 100% compliant with state laws. I talk to my Ag inspector every week! :) you know Termidor and Taurus have the exact same active ingredient??
I have some termites eating an old stump in the middle of my lawn. Last, week, two of the larger companies quoted me $2170 and $1295 each for a year service with the Sentricon baiting system, and then the following year was $1200 and $450 and each year afterwards. They check on the stations once a year. I was like, I am paying you that much for you to come out once a year and check on them. I just called a smaller company today that was $800 the first year with the Advanced Baiting System and $200 each year after with a bi-yearly check on the stations. I did inquire if they spray around the foundation as an additional barrier. They said, they do not spray outside anymore and that it was the old way of doing it unless they were in my house then they would drill and spray into the wood. After watching your video, you have me second guessing going this route.
Wouldn't the yearly renewal of the bait stations be worth it for the warranty alone? That was basically the reason I renewed mine, through Terminix, after 1 year on our new-build home. Trying to decide if I should renew again when it comes up in a couple months but the warranty is what gives me piece of mind.
I had my house sprayed by a licensed exterminator for lots of dineros. Had other infestations every year until I was informed by a different exterminator to try bait stations. I've been using them for many years now - and haven't had a problem since. At $50 a box, they are not cheap. Can buy a box a month, and it would still be cheaper then hiring an exterminator. Thankfully each box lasts me a few years. I'm all in with this scam. I store it right next to my "pet rocks".
Please, double-check your facts. In my 20-plus years in the industry, I have witnessed many liquid failures. Where are the studies that liquid will eliminate the colony? I understand that you may not like baits, but please be honest when giving your opinion.
U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and the Mississippi State College are two of the sites I used. There were also a couple of studies that said the soil had not been properly treated which let the termites go through the barrier that wasn't a barrier that was complete.
@@AverageJoe46549 I don't want to repeat anything I have not seen myself. Just the facts. I will be sending a brief to DTBM when I have a completed report. I do know that a Terralift machine is involved.
There is so much science and studies that back up stations. The problem is the when they aren’t checked correctly. Those stations destroy the entire colony.
Just watched the whole video, and from my memory, he never said that the bait stations didn’t work. He was saying that there is no guarantee WHEN THEY will work, In which the official statement said it takes “up to a year” for bait stations versus “up to 30 days” for the liquid method. It seemed he was more against the fact that companies offering the bait stations make you feel as if you must renew the subscription (re bait) in order for you to be free. But even then, he said it’s not a guarantee because of how long it can take to work.
Exactly, they can also transfer the bait to colony in distances closer to 400 feet. Entomologist believes that nymphs may survive a Termindor treatment even though all the adult termites are dead
@MMCS87 Yes I agree! They will destroy the colony when the termites get to them. That's why it's important to come in contact with the colony as quickly as possible. Do you use the above ground bait stations?
Termite Bait Stations are there to monitor activity before they start eating away at the house. I've installed bait stations around my home, and it hasn't taken long for them to find the bait.
I work at northwest exterminating and yes, termite stations do work but we just charge an arm and leg because we know you need it and you need it to sell a home here in the south. Then we charge you every 3 months to have someone come "check" on it when we all know it'll last 7 years.
16:03 is where you hear what is effective and budget friendly for killing termite colonies. Most of the first half of the video is repeated bashing of the tubular termite baits, that termites may or even go for.
What a video . Completely agree 100% . I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve crawled customers houses who had those bait stations and found active termites . Termite bait stations are indeed a complete scam . Liquid treatment is the way to go . Can’t go wrong with fipronil .
Can’t speak on the sentricon ones but part of the process with trelona ones is regularly checking the stations and the house itself. Also some people don’t seem to notice the difference between the monitoring stations and bait stations from trelona. Regardless though I think trelona is fine as a preventative step if you keep up with the yearly bond, however if you have an active site I’d go liquid
I understand where you’re coming from…but I do termite inspections for a living and I find a lot more termites in homes with liquid treatment than I do baiting systems. (Personally) Also a lot of professional companies will use an above ground stations for active infestations. I do disagree with this video…but I see where you’re coming from.
@@Man_in_a_Gucci_Suit A lot of companies don’t use Termidor. Even if they do, there is no guarantee they are going to mix it properly to the right ratio, or apply it properly throughout the entire home. It’s VERY easy to cut corners, and almost impossible for an ignorant customer to detect.
@@Man_in_a_Gucci_Suit I agree! But, Not everyone hires a mom and Pop,most people don’t know any better. and I’m not talking about them anyway. I’m talking about big companies with huge advertisements that cut corners and lowball. Sadly, where I am, that is the prevailing business practice..with not all, but a lot of termite treatments.
@@DanTheBugMan Yeah AG packs are pretty dope, I’ve seen pretty awsome results with them. I agree with your point that pest control companies charge too much for them about 50/50. It really just depends on what kind of warranty the baiting system comes with. If we’re talking unlimited damage repair and free retreats upon new damage…yeah I think it’s worth 1200-1400 depending on the size of the home. If your warranty is crap, really any termite service is a risk. There is never such a thing as 100% risk free from termites in my opinion. Baiting or liquid. You were however wrong about wood being in stations. It’s not wood, but pure cellulose infused with noviflumuron. I’d love to elaborate more on the science on why the are effective, but I’m sure you have done your research and have developed your own opinion based off of that.
Been using sentricon for 10+ years never had an issue. Also the most sustainable systems on the market, but definitely dump 100s of gallons in the soil and it still not be 100% effective.
If we do the math let’s say the avg ln ft. Per home is 170 ln feet . Just to be safe we would divide 170 by 10 that gives us 17 then multiply that by 2 that’s 34 gallons. Depending on how many houses you treat that’s. “Hundreds of gallons”
I install, and I have seen them work and eliminate colonies, along with indoor stations or core stations. Every threshold is different and it all depends on a tech doing a check properly in crawls and anywhere you can safely access. The baits I check get checked twice a year and we video our inspections so that we know the tech is actually checking a property correctly.
I appreciate your video. Just found evidence of termites and will have to DYI it. My son and I will have to do the liquid treatment around the house. I am retired and don't have thousands of dollars to throw at this. Thanks for your information
You need to look more into it man, I’ve been doing pest control for almost 11 years now and I have seen those stations work great. I’ve serviced them myself and have seen them work. Terminix, the company I work for are actually the ones who were 1st in patenting a termite control plan and patenting those bait stations. They’ve been scientifically developed over YEARS of R&D. Doing a soil treatment for termites will not work, you have to trench around the home and place gallons and gallons of product around the home for a complete eradication of termites. Just a tiny bit of that bait has the strength to kill thousands and thousands of termites.
How would you know if termites are gone? Just curious to know. We don't see any termites in our house but we saw the tubes and frass. If we hire someone to put the baits, How do we know if the termites are out of the house?
Hi, what is the name of the Liquid in the white bottle that you showed. And where can I find the container with the long handle that you can push into the ground and spray. Thank you for the video
Taurus SC which a cheaper knockoff of Termidor SC after BASF’s patent expired. It works pretty good for termites and ant control like Termidor. Both of which utilize the active ingredient of Fipronil. For subterranean termites I wouldn’t use anything else, not even premise, which utilizes the neonicotinoid (synthetic nicotine) and breaks down in the soil far quicker then Fipronil. As for drywoods it’s always best to tarp the property. That will zap the termites colonies the inspectors detected along with the ones not detected. Local treatment for drywoods is a roll of the dice.
Im not sure about every company, but the annual renewal isnt just to monitor the stations, it is the cost to keep a warranty in place in the event termites do bypass the stations and damage the home. The company I am with actually covers the cost of damage if something does happen with the system in place. I know other companies offer retreat warranties as well. Now if a company is charging that much just to monitor the stations, then that is definitely a scam.
What if there was a liquid ....that negated the need to have my home partially destroyed by termites first..... In a week I am having the entire perimeter treated with Taurus SC Now I have eliminated the need for a bait company, monthly premiums forever, an insurance adjuster, an insurance company, debating who will be the contractor, having a construction company take weeks or longer inside my house...with the dust and mess associated with repairs.....etc..etc.
@@dm285 I agree that liquid is the way to go. We actually offer both options for customers. I just wanted to point out that the annual charge isn't just to check the stations.
Your information is very helpful. I use stations at a property in the Philippines but because of their paths, the concrete we get a good idea of their paths but it is not the only method. Using them for six months actually just caused them to use another area and fortunately it was out of my area of responsibility. We also have times of the year where it floods for weeks. I use recycled plastic bottles, cardboard, scrap wood wrapped in poison soaked with the bait/poison. Agreed they should be held accountable by the Dept. of Agriculture. If small business's, contractors were more honest/ethical like you they'd be more successful. We also spray the house, inside out and surrounding area. We get 1-2' mounds every so many months. The tropics for you. Appreciate your videos.
Hold on. Sentricon was the first commercial baiting system to be launched in Australia. It was not invented in Australia. Any Australian would have seen why this system was an absolute joke. You are 100% correct about misinformation and scaring home owners into contracts. Incidentally a termite inspection is not 100% effective either. Termites can be chomping on a wooden base plate and the average inspector wouldn’t have a clue. I don’t blame the pest man. Termites are very secretive. Btw You completely misread that one year thing. How you interpreted that it can take up to a year to discover a bait has puzzled me. The clause clearly stated ‘before’ the end of 1 year so could mean 1 week, couldn’t it. Kill the colony? How exactly do you prove that. By just waiting? For how long? I didn’t notice your twin ( in the background ) doing any trenching for laying down a chemical barrier. Do you really rely on soil injection alone? Nowhere near as effective as trenching but if you are not racing to the next job it ‘can’ be as effective as trenching. Wishing you well.
I think he was placing a trench every foot it looked like and filling that hole with liquid....Sounds to me like that would work as well if the holes were 6" deep ?
@@dm285 No, the twin was rodding. A trench is one long open hole that is backfilled with ( ideally ) treated sand. All good as long as the spacings are close and the soil doesn't have a high clay component.
Hi! Thank you so much for this awesome video! I recently (2 months ago) decided not to renew my bait station subscription ($389 year) and they did actually come back and get the bait stations now I have holes all around my yard. They were the black bait station you showed. I came here to find out what I should do about the holes and if then being there will actually encourage termite activity and to see what I needed to do instead of the bait stations (I have that answer now because of you). Now I need to know do I buy the stations myself to fill the holes, buy filler dirt or what?
I've been doing termite work for 28 years, I've been saying they are ineffective for the last 20 years. They were initially invented to be a monitoring system, NOT a stand alone treatment.
I too hate them, for many reasons, the worst example is when people only install the timber monitoring devices and not the always active rod, 3 monthly visits that end up not even happening and then people get termites anyway or if the controller does keep coming it milks the customer to the point they then hate pest controllers and when they do get an active station baiting them needs so many bait replacements, sometimes the termites don't take the bait and abandon the station less so with high density rods, they generally take, but using stuff you have to mix with water, I hate that, you only need a couple jobs out of 100 where they dont take the bait even when they are channeling right next to the station to test the limits of your patience lol, using just timber to me is just a straight up scam, the always active rod less so, but still it can take several rod replacements and sometimes 2 years! For them to finally stop attacking that active station and be presumed dead, but then you go turn over a log 20 feet away and find termites anyway after baiting for freaking years! The caps go brittle faster than the rods go old. And oh boy when they don't touch any stations but eat someone's house anyway, customers loooove that...not. In conjunction with something like Taurus or in very specific use cases, It should almost never be the first option IMO and to the people saying "I use only sentricons for prevention for years with 0 issues " I would say 1. Maybe you aren't good at finding termites in houses or following up on your work in general lol 2. You don't actually have enough jobs done to have good data. 3. If you have callbacks for chemical but not stations you might be doing something wrong, a termite getting through chemical would be like a person trying to swim through an ocean of fentanyl lol 4. Would you do a pretreatment to a slab by doing no physical barrier, nothing on the penetrations, no chemical to the soil, none of the usual things, just plonk the house on soil and slap stations around it? Heck no you wouldn't so why do you think it's so different post construction? If you have a nice open subfloor that can be sprayed and an easy to treat perimeter why are you using stations at every job?! I think I know why! lazy!!!
@danthebugman Hey, man!! Thank you for the video! My wife and I just found termites inside my home. The peat control company said it will be $1700 to use bait stations and that they have a pheromone in them that attracts them there and kills the colony. Do you know of anything like this being true? I'd like to hire you to do my house with the old school method if you're available.
Bro you’re incredible!! My family and I LOVE THIS CHANNEL My friends runs a termite company and they never really prevented any termite infestation with those bate stations and your right. They now use Tourus SC and they have successfully saved a lot of homes. But I ordered that product and trenched it in MYSELF THANKS TO YOUR CHANNEL 👍👍👍👍👍
Wow. I never knew! Dan, I rent a large home built in the last 4 years. My landlord doesn't provide pest maintenance, I haven't seen any issues. Would you recommend a pest inspection before paying for regular maintenance, or how do I not get ripped off?
Strange. Just a couple years ago you said with confidence that bait stations work and work very well. Maybe not as well as chemical liquid treatments, but pretty close. Not you are saying bait stations are a scam. What happened?
Terminix gave me a quote of $1500 to install 12 stations. They said there is a warranty of up to $275 k. They said if there is damage they pay up to 275K to fix the damage . They don't really tell me how that works but when I look at the contract that they want me to sign , there is a lot of fine prints . Im thinking not to sign up and do the preventive treatment myself. Your thoughts ?
Do you think it is affective if I do it myself following the instruction? . I have Taurus SC and digging a trench is not a big deal .. what’s really the point of hiring pest control company to do it ? Convenience ?
Interesting video with good points. I've watched a lot of your videos, and a couple years ago you indicated that either bait stations or liquid were pretty equal alternatives. I have a Florida home that is 20 ' from a pond. 10 years ago it had a perimeter treatment with fipronil. Instead of retreating, A few months ago I self installed BASF bait stations around my home, thinking it was a better environmental option that would work just as well, and where I could personally see activity & results. . Wondering what to do now. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
First of all, thanks so much for watching both the videos! :) and secondly, yes they really do both work in theory. I have since learned how long it takes for the bait stations to fully provide coverage for your home so I have had a changing opinion over the years
Do you go back out and reinstall liquid if they change landscaping and dig up the liquid barrier. How many gallons of chemical do you have to put in the ground on an average house?
10 years here i used to live in a townhome and I found active termites on my neighbors unit 1.5 months after Sentricon was installed by my competitor btw And my dads been doing this 40 years he’s found active termites dozens of times on houses w/ bait stations
I have the spectazide stakes. Two popped, after checking I did not see any termites. It looks as if they popped after getting wet and the connector that holds them down deteriorated away for a few months of being in the ground.
I agree but I think pest companies charge too much for it, which is a rip off. They should charge less than liquid treatments but instead its usually more or equal
@@DanTheBugMan it depends on if your 1200 comes with a hefty warranty. And it’s fine if you think it’s a rip off. Bottom line is that a lot of people don’t and are fine and even happy with the peace of mind a GOOD company offers. If your paying 1200 for sentricon alone your being ripped off. Heck if you’re paying 700 just for liquid ,and no guarantee, you’re getting ripped off because there is NO 100% in pest control.
Why is it that your not allowed to change your mind as new facts present themselves. I worked for a big name company that sold the sentricon system. They sold it as if it was a silver bullet. As a tech I EVENTUALLY learned the lies. Ignore the haters.
Absolutely loved the video, and have a suggestion about `how to do something no one else is doing I won't post here. one question--iwhen termites find your home--do they just go to your house to eat, and are they not even looking for food anywhere else?
There are issues with both liquid and bait but in coastal areas, bait is better just due to sandy soil and heavy storms and rain that degrade the liquid treatment at a much faster pace. No pest company and 100% guarantee that their liquid treatment will create a full barrier around the home due to obstructions in the soil from rocks and things of that nature. I've been in the industry for 11 years now and I think the Sentricon stations have been amazing including with Formosan termites the reason companies normally spray first is because it normally has a faster kill time because the termites are already on the home but I've also seen Sentricon AGs work amazing as well (with a little power-aid)
Liquid treatments don’t eliminate the colony. It’s common for infestations to have two or more colonies, with each colony having millions of termites. Liquid treatments will also dissipate, and termites only need to find a gap half the thickness of a credit card to exploit. If you want to dig a trench and fill it with chemicals just for it to not eliminate the colonies, by all means go for it, but it’s an inferior option for eliminating and preventing termite infestations.
@@dm285 The University of Florida just published a study earlier this year in the Journal of Economic Entomology showing the effectiveness of both and showed that liquid treatments are an inferior method of treatment and prevention. The study showed that liquid treatments impact to be as little as 1.5% of the termite population being taken care of, meanwhile bait stations have product that is brought back and distributed throughout the colony and wipes out the entire colony.
Thanks so much for an awesome video.I don’t think I have termite issues but thought I might get an inspection for peace of mind.I am thinking now I should probably find a company in northern Ca that treats with the Taurus SC and I’m safe and protected for 20 years .would you agree on being proactive in having house sprayed even if no termites for protection?
My termite company did the trench years ago and told me I need to renew the chemical treatment. When I mentioned we have an encapsulated crawl space, they said I had to do the bait stations or we would not be warrantied. There was a big push to sign up which made me hit the brakes. Is this true? Is there something about having an encapsulated crawl space that changes things? My husband checks that space routinely. Also, is an annual inspection really needed every year ($155! to walk around). We are in the Charlotte NC area.
Dude your beef is with sentricon,Not the system itself.Look at it like this the bait stations are an added extra barrier like granular is to a liquid perimeter treatment.dont know where you are but come on down to good old hot as hell florida and tell the many rich or retirees that they can dig some trenches or drill and drop some bait stations.😂all my customers who have sentricons are on a quarterly ghp service as well, and guess what im treating the perimeter with?fuse.
So I have termites on some of my trees and plants on my yard, but no evidence on the house. Would it be a good idea to install my own bait? And just check them every few months?
I can't find that department of agriculture litigation document only documents from the NC code .. Can you please reference the Dept of Agriculture document that states the 12 months ands and the 30 days you reference ?
Dan, I really appreciate your video on the bait stations and the unethical behavior of some pest control companies. Would like your thoughts on my situation. I have an all-wood tiki hut down in the Florida Keys. Just found some evidence of termites. Local guys typically treat with a tent. Treating the soil is a little tricky as the tiki hut sits on the edge of saltwater on coral stone. no real solid to retain the poison and I am concerned about the poison going into the water. Thoughts?

Currently had 30 of these put in for active Formosan and sub terrain termite's. Currently 6 months into this and still very active termites inside the house. Have holes in the wall where they have ate the decking and 2x4's to nothing left. They are eating away at the house and the company doesn't seem to care about getting these termites killed. They put in above ground bait stations. They come back every 2 weeks and replace the bait. Never did any sort of liquids. Need a true professional if you know anyone in the Lake Jackson, TX area that actually is a professional in termites.
In my experience. You spot treat with termidor where the tubes or swarming came from. Have the local utilities inspector mark gas and electric. Then you auger holes about 6 feet apart and 2 feet from the structure. You charge a good initial fee then do bi yearly inspection of the system, and one yearly inspection. Charge an appropriate amount for the yearly, 150 to 200. When you are on property inspecting, you can identify other insect or structural issues and make recommendations. Sure, I get that termidor is a very long term mode of control of termites. Still, termites randomly forage and if a new colony starts up, the sentricon will intercept workers and allow them to bring the active ingredient to the colony to destroy the colony. People pay insurance to protect their property. Cars and homes. What is wrong with a termite insurance payment? It's worth it for the peace of mind. By the way. I have 36 years in the pest control industry. I ran a sentricon route for 3 years and I consider myself an expert in the field.
I had liquid fail 3 times in 4 years. Twice done professionally. What seemed to have worked is having all the walls inside the house filled with terminator and having having the bathroom drilled and drilling into underneath the foundation with liquid but then. They also put in bait stations for me for free. My annual contract for the bait station is a hundred and fifty dollars a year. That includes a 1 million dollar structural damage gaurantee. I have it in writing.
$150 a year with bait stations is a steal. Never drop that service, we were charging $250-$300 a year for Sentricon and don't listen to this Dan, it's totally worth it
Our company would put the stations in free for customers that had a liquid bond that had active infestations. We would go up on the bond about $100 after that. So a bond that was $125-$150 would go up to $225-$250. If the company does go up on it in a few years, it's still worth it since sentricon is so expensive to install and plus your house could get Termites again.
So if your an experienced inspector you should know you never tell someone they don’t have any termites , because the truth is it’s a visual inspection and you don’t know for sure if they do or not. You can’t see in all the walls unless you deface them. So regardless every homeowner should prevent even if no evidence is seen. Facts!!! Based on my experience bait has been way better & it’s not close.
That's a great point. Then, how would you know if termites are gone? Just curious to know. We don't see any termites in our house but we saw the tubes and frass. If we hire someone to put the baits, How do we know if the termites are out of the house?
@@farnoushreshadi6547 Their is no method that works 100% as liquid treatments can only treat the area it's sprayed in, and the ground thing to treat termites will gather colonies but no matter the route you take their is no 100% guarantee if any bug inspector claims they can 100% kill or remove termites they are lying, as an inspector can't spray every once off wood in the house unless they remove every drywall and flooring out of the house which no bug inspector does plus bugs can become immune to bug poisons over time I've seen it first hand.
I work at Orkin and we typically only use sentricon for preventative (with a guarantee that we will use termidor if termites become present) and light termite activity on a home (with termidor in the active areas). Beyond that we use termidor treatments for anything moderate to heavy activity. We also don’t manipulate or lie to anyone, Orkin would fire someone for being dishonest. “Hey Mr & Mrs, we offer a termite preventative product call sentricon, it does work based off of how termites forage but we offer a guarantee on it incase they do make it passed the stations (it happens but our branch has only had 2 houses in 10 years) we come out yearly and inspect the house inside and out and change the bait at yearly intervals.
Although I will agree with you we fight everyday customers thinking you only need to use bait stations for active treatments because of the companies I think you’re talking about.

I'm doing a termite treatment tomorrow that has active termites. Those bait stations failed to do the job. Needless to say, the company that put those in will not be returning.
bait stations have always been the answer for preventative, we use the termidor he in soil and through wall foam and some form of dust applicant with the growth inhibitor and above ground bait stations to do the job for active infestations. Any company that sells bait stations as a end all be all is a scam.
When you mentioned "Corteva," I was wondering if it was "Corteva Agriscience" who produced those bait stations. They're headquartered in my home state of Indiana. I did not know they made bait stations. Makes since that they would.
Great video, great insight. I used your videos to get rid of termites in my house. Maybe one benefit of bait stations, it is more environmentally friendly; that being said I used the liquid treatment of course haha.
Wow. Apparently you’d go to great lengths to misinform people. My friend I use Sentricon daily. 365 days a year ongoing with these stations I return very little for extra work to the same house. Very very little. You need to get your facts straight Dan.
He did liquid get his facts straight Liquid chemical is a one and done treatment that last a minimum of a decade and honestly really more like 1.5 decades and almost always cost less in the long run And you can’t put bait stations everywhere Tell me how to install a Sentricon under someone’s tub trap… I’ll wait
@@michaelmerck7576you must be installing them incorrectly. My company rule is every 10 feet around the perimeter. I’ve done inspections on thousands of home with it and maybe get 1 claim a year if that
We literally do remove the stations from the ground when they cancel. It’s actually a mandatory job. Also there are so many facts you got wrong with this and you also left out that if you have the service then the damage if it occurs is covered under a warranty which home insurance doesn’t cover.
@@Trish.Norman it’s in the cancellation contract they sign. They give us full authorization and most of the time they still have the quarterly service which still allows us to have authorization regardless.

Sentricon is a scam you are correct. Trelona ATBS is the only station that works pretty well if done correctly. However we always say liquid is a must if there is an active colony present/obvious before we can even discuss trelona.
After watching this video and having watched a lot of YT videos from pest control experts......it sounds like about 40% like the sentricon system and about 60% say the liquid termiticide is the best long term. I note that most all of the bait station guys...say if the stations dont work, then use the liquid! So I am moving over to the liquid method.....around the house in the very near future... because its way less expensive for me, over 10 yr period and most folks say it gives them a solid 10 yr protection(most cases).....and no more paying a lease for canisters $300 a year for me....which I have done for about 5 yrs and each year they still find active termites munching on the stuff thats suppose to 'kill the queen' ? ha
Being in the pest control industry for now almost 4 years, I can totally agree with you on this one. Liquid treatments are the way to go. I have experience with both products stations and liquid. I use premise 75 for exterior treatments and premise 2 for interior like wall voids etc
In California you cannot recommend bait station as a primary treatment. It was considered substandard now California wants less chemicals so they are pushing the bait stations now.
Also termidor h.e is best. Less digging less water. 2 gallons every ten ft, Instead of 4 gallons every ten ft. And trenches only hv to be 2 inches deep by two inches wide. And it penetrates tubes better than S.C. I drill concrete and holes can be every 18 inches instead of 12. Check it out
You can not do a liquid treatment if they have a well or if there is a water source nearby. You also can not do a baiting system in cities. They both are good options, and neither are a scam. The renewal price for the warranty on both liquid and bait stations is the same, but the installation of the bait stations is cheaper than the treatment of liquid. Liquid treatment also degrades and needs to be redone every 10-15 years while bait stations are checked once a year and are replaced as needed, which is covered under the warranty. It's a little odd, too, that you have a video from 2 years ago where you're a lot more friendly towards bait stations than you are now. There is definitely a lot of bias in this video, and I think it could be because your company decided to stop using bait. If you are in the South, I understand because it's cut throat down there, and you also have drywood termites, whereas in the Northeast, it's really only ever subterranean termites.
I am looking to have a liquid barrier treatment applied around my new home in Little River (myrtle BeACH ARea)-no luck-can anyone point me in the right direstion?
1. I'm not sure you interpreted that 1 year text correctly 2. I've always thought about it as a detective measure & not as a method to treat an active termite problem I'm no expert though. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I was quoted yesterday over $1500 for bait station installment with initial spraying and then $300 annually after the first year. Orkin. I will do my own treatment.
It really feels like you're mad because they didn't want to work with you. Specially because you said in a video a couple months ago that they work well and are more environmentally friendly.
Used spectracide stations and within three weeks had indicators up. Thought it was a false positive but had small white larve earth the bait. Now on to the drench

This was a "discounted" price also since I was already a customer. Plus $60 per month for 2 years for the warranty ( He did not mentioned this. I just happened to have read it.). They used several scare tactics to get me to sign. Such as "the house down the street needed $30K in termite damage repair".

My baits get pulled out of the ground covered in termites... i agree with this comment.
U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and the Mississippi State College are two of the sites I used. There were also a couple of studies that said the soil had not been properly treated which let the termites go through the barrier that wasn't a barrier that was complete.

Ive had good luck with bait stations over the years. Worse luck with liquid over the same time
You need to look more into it man, I’ve been doing pest control for almost 11 years now and I have seen those stations work great.
Any Australian would have seen why this system was
an absolute joke.
You are 100% correct about misinformation and scaring home owners into contracts.
Incidentally a termite inspection is not 100% effective either. Termites can be chomping
on a wooden base plate and the average inspector wouldn’t have a clue. I don’t blame the
pest man.
I didn’t notice your twin ( in the background ) doing any trenching for laying down
a chemical barrier. Do you really rely on soil injection alone? Nowhere near as effective
as trenching but if you are not racing to the next job it ‘can’ be as effective as trenching.
You’re nuts! Liquid treatment sucks, termite baits stations are the most effective treatment of termites
In conjunction with something like Taurus or in very specific use cases, It should almost never be the first option IMO and to the people saying "I use only sentricons for prevention for years with 0 issues " I would say
1. Maybe you aren't good at finding termites in houses or following up on your work in general lol
2. You don't actually have enough jobs done to have good data.
3. If you have callbacks for chemical but not stations you might be doing something wrong, a termite getting through chemical would be like a person trying to swim through an ocean of fentanyl lol
My family and I LOVE THIS CHANNEL
My friends runs a termite company and they never really prevented any termite infestation with those bate stations and your right. They now use Tourus SC and they have successfully saved a lot of homes. But I ordered that product and trenched it in MYSELF THANKS TO YOUR CHANNEL 👍👍👍👍👍
That's awesome thanks so much for watching!!!
Wow. I never knew!
Dan, I rent a large home built in the last 4 years. My landlord doesn't provide pest maintenance, I haven't seen any issues. Would you recommend a pest inspection before paying for regular maintenance, or how do I not get ripped off?
No. Dont waste a dime unless you see a problem. Just incase you didnt know too, any ant peoblem is easily fixable w $6 ant baits at publix
Thanks for watching! Your landlord should be responsible for normal pests like ants, mice, spiders, etc.
Strange. Just a couple years ago you said with confidence that bait stations work and work very well. Maybe not as well as chemical liquid treatments, but pretty close. Not you are saying bait stations are a scam. What happened?
Learning and adapting, experts can always change their opinions, this is a opinion and he is backing it up
Terminix gave me a quote of $1500 to install 12 stations.
Yes the contracts are full of fine print details that 99% of the time gets the pest control company out of having to pay for the damages.
Do you think it is affective if I do it myself following the instruction? . I have Taurus SC and digging a trench is not a big deal .. what’s really the point of hiring pest control company to do it ? Convenience ?
Avoid that contract ,the fine print exonerated them from all liability

I pay $85 every quarter for them to spend 10 minutes at my house and I’m sure they don’t check all the stations.
Hey Dan. I have ants in my basement. I see them coming out from tiny hole and I put a caulking. Can ants destroy house foundations?
Nope!
Found this video after getting a $2500 quote to install bait stations, plus $500/year for maintenance! Thank you for the great info!
Amen brother 18 years here in the industry and bait stations are a complete sham!! Good for you !!
10 years here i used to live in a townhome and I found active termites on my neighbors unit 1.5 months after Sentricon was installed by my competitor btw
And my dads been doing this 40 years he’s found active termites dozens of times on houses w/ bait stations
I have the spectazide stakes. Two popped, after checking I did not see any termites. It looks as if they popped after getting wet and the connector that holds them down deteriorated away for a few months of being in the ground.
Thank you, I've been reluctant to renew my yearly termite protection, they use the sentricon stations.
I've seen sentricon work, both when used with a liquid treatment and not. to me its not a ripoff, I've seen it eliminate colonies.
Termidor eliminates colonies at a fraction of the cost in the long run
Sounds good. I live in FL. Just found drywood termites in my attic. What would u recommend?
Disagree based on my homes termite and treatment experiences. Liquid is far more effective long term.
Thanks so much for an awesome video.I don’t think I have termite issues
but thought I might get an inspection for peace of mind.I am thinking now I should probably find a company in northern Ca that treats with the Taurus SC and I’m safe and protected for 20 years .would you agree on being proactive in having house sprayed even if no termites for protection?
My termite company did the trench years ago and told me I need to renew the chemical treatment. When I mentioned we have an encapsulated crawl space, they said I had to do the bait stations or we would not be warrantied. There was a big push to sign up which made me hit the brakes. Is this true? Is there something about having an encapsulated crawl space that changes things? My husband checks that space routinely. Also, is an annual inspection really needed every year ($155! to walk around). We are in the Charlotte NC area.
Do you go back out and reinstall liquid if they change landscaping and dig up the liquid barrier.
BOREALL 50MIX W WARM WATER AND SPRAY IT YOURSELF- NO SMELL, KILLS- NON TOXIC IN YOUR HOME WALLS- 85$ DOITYOURSELF!
Do you have a video on how to choose a termite company. I’m in Las Vegas.
He has videos for options that you can do it yourself. You will save big time trust me brother
Never drop that service, we were charging $250-$300 a year for Sentricon
and don't listen to this Dan, it's totally worth it
Our company would put the stations in free for customers that had a liquid bond that had active infestations.
@@farnoushreshadi6547 Their is no method that works 100% as liquid treatments can only treat the area it's sprayed in, and the ground thing to treat termites will gather colonies but no matter the route you take their is no 100% guarantee if any bug inspector claims they can 100% kill or remove termites they are lying, as an inspector can't spray every once off wood in the house unless they remove every drywall and flooring out of the house which no bug inspector does plus bugs can become immune to bug poisons over time I've seen it first hand.
hahahah you had me laughing. These do the same thing to the customer. Nice

Very Nice!!! :)
bait stations have always been the answer for preventative, we use the termidor he in soil and through wall foam and some form of dust applicant with the growth inhibitor and above ground bait stations to do the job for active infestations. Any company that sells bait stations as a end all be all is a scam.
Great video, Dan. Very persuasive argument. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!!!
When you mentioned "Corteva," I was wondering if it was "Corteva Agriscience" who produced those bait stations. They're headquartered in my home state of Indiana. I did not know they made bait stations. Makes since that they would.
Any thoughts on Navigator sc termiticide? Bought some and realized there’s also Termidor.
Great video, great insight. I used your videos to get rid of termites in my house.
Maybe one benefit of bait stations, it is more environmentally friendly; that being said I used the liquid treatment of course haha.
Thanks for watching! Yes you could say that!
What would you recommend for states like Massachusetts where Fipronil is not allowed?
Do termites make a knocking sound inside the walls of a home Thank you
No
Can you let us know how to do a preventative maintenance in attic for drywood termites. That would be a major help for most of us.
Wow. Apparently you’d go to great lengths to misinform people. My friend I use Sentricon daily. 365 days a year ongoing with these stations I return very little for extra work to the same house. Very very little. You need to get your facts straight Dan.
He did liquid get his facts straight
Liquid chemical is a one and done treatment that last a minimum of a decade and honestly really more like 1.5 decades and almost always cost less in the long run
And you can’t put bait stations everywhere Tell me how to install a Sentricon under someone’s tub trap… I’ll wait
I found the sentricon system to not work too many tines so I avoid promoting the bait stations and I will not install them
@@michaelmerck7576you must be installing them incorrectly.
Just as an FYI and from a legal stand point if someone has canceled service you are no longer authorized to go on the property.
@@Trish.Norman it’s in the cancellation contract they sign. They give us full authorization and most of the time they still have the quarterly service which still allows us to have authorization regardless.

@@Trish.Norman again, you are if it’s in the contract and they signed the approval for it. Our contract says they must allow us 3 days after cancellation to remove our equipment. Literally the same thing all major companies do.

Sentricon is a scam you are correct. Trelona ATBS is the only station that works pretty well if done correctly. However we always say liquid is a must if there is an active colony present/obvious before we can even discuss trelona.
Love it!!
After watching this video and having watched a lot of YT videos from pest control experts......it sounds like about 40% like the sentricon system and about 60% say the liquid termiticide is the best long term. I note that most all of the bait station guys...say if the stations dont work, then use the liquid!
So I am moving over to the liquid method.....around the house in the very near future... because its way less expensive for me, over 10 yr period and most folks say it gives them a solid 10 yr protection(most cases).....and no more paying a lease for canisters $300 a year for me....which I have done for about 5 yrs and each year they still find active termites munching on the stuff thats suppose to 'kill the queen' ? ha
So is liquid 100 percent effective ?
Being in the pest control industry for now almost 4 years, I can totally agree with you on this one. Liquid treatments are the way to go. I have experience with both products stations and liquid. I use premise 75 for exterior treatments and premise 2 for interior like wall voids etc
I hear Premise doesn’t last half as long As Termidor HE
Termidor HE is on sale this month only by the way Veseris, Oldham chemicals check w/ your rep
@@Man_in_a_Gucci_Suit Telling all the secrets!! lol
1. I'm not sure you interpreted that 1 year text correctly
2. I've always thought about it as a detective measure & not as a method to treat an active termite problem
I'm no expert though.
Just found thermites on my raised garden beds. Is it safe to use Taurus sc near consumer plants (tomatoes, peppers, etc.)?
I have the same question
