  • An 8.5 minute version of this video is now available by clicking the link below. Not only is it shorter, but it provides more information. I recommend watching the shorter version instead of this one.
    Link to shorter version: • Unbelievable Outside T...
    How to safely treat the exterior of your home for pests, such as roaches, ants, spiders, etc., for a fraction of the cost of hiring a professional pest control company. Do it yourself and save hundreds of dollars.
    I did not mention this in the video, but you should do the initial treatment with Taurus SC and then use Talstar P every three months after that. If you like, you can use Bifen IT, instead of the Talstar P. The Bifen IT is the same formulation, but is a bit less expensive. The only thing is that the Bifen IT has a slight odor to it, while the Talstar P is pretty much odorless.
    The sprayers mentioned in the video are no longer available. Any battery-operated sprayer will work, but the more pressure it has the better. More pressure allows you to reach higher areas and it makes the job go faster, so you get what you pay for.
    Please note, sometimes I do not always receive posted questions from viewers or I do receive them, but TH-cam does not allow me to respond to them. Sometimes I do not receive a question until six months after it was posted. These glitches do not happen often, but they do happen. It is my policy to respond to all questions within 48 hours, so if you do not hear from me in a couple of days, then please email your question to me at guyspestsolutions@gmail.com. Please do try to post questions in the comment section first and only use the email address if you don't hear from me. The reason for this is that other folks may have the same question, so it would be nice for them to learn as well. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Remember... I will always get back to you.

      Thank you so much for those kind words. I love your channel. I have been doing my own handyman work for many years. Even before I started doing pest control. I'm still learning new things though. It's amazing to me the things people think of that never would have occurred to me. Thanks for what you do. People don't realize how much time goes into making these videos and I always appreciate it when folks take the time to do them. You do them very well too. Be well my friend.

    Guy, Thank You for the great videos and explaining everything. I moved to Florida 10 years ago from Tennessee and quickly discovered that bug problems are 365 days a year here in Florida. I have been doing my own pest control and just started using the Taurus SC. I purchased the 20 ounce bottle from the Hudson Florida DIY Pest Control on SR 52 and paid $83 for it, I wish I had watched your video earlier and used your links to the products you recommend before buying it at the store. Using your link would have saved me 40%. Thank You for everything you do, I'm happy to be another Subscriber to your channel.

    I’m back watching this video again to refresh my memory from last year because it worked great! It took almost 3 gallons of mixture to do the perimeter of my house and we reduced our big problem to almost zero. I then did my basement along the top of the foundation wall with talstar and that solved our spider problem(my wife is EXTREMELY phobic to spiders). Thank you so much!

We had a big issue with black widows and termites at our last house and I had never thought DIY pest control could be as effective as hiring a pro. Hi Jacob. I can't believe that you wrote this six months ago and TH-cam held it for review for that long. Most comments go right through, but a few of them get held for review by TH-cam and I have no idea way that is. Virtually none of them that get held have any foul language or anything else that would be offensive, but they get held anyway. Most of the time I do get them right away, but that did not happen in your case. Luckily you didn't need me to answer a question. I would feel really bad if I missed a question. Anyway, thank you so much for those kind words. I truly do appreciate it. Again, so sorry that it took so long to get back to you. Be well my friend.

    Hi Guy. Me again (from Fayetteville). Long note with hopefully will be a short answer. First, I want to express how much I appreciate your TH-cam channel. Your insights on DIY pest control are not only incredibly useful but also generous. They’ve definitely helped alleviate my fears about handling pest control myself. I'm reaching out to seek your guidance given my specific issues. After taking in your ideas and methods from your videos, I thought I would share my pest issue details and goals and see if you have additional ideas that aren’t covered in your videos that pertain to my situation. Four years ago, I bought a house built in 2017 in Fayetteville, NC (concrete slab, two-story house, typical subdivision, ½ acre lot, lawn has more weeds than grass). I’m finally turning my attention to lawn care and pest control. Across the lawn, I have fire ants, potential termite sightings in the grass (but no mud tunnels anywhere I can see), and other common pests like mosquitoes, small ants, and spiders, which often make their way indoors. I currently use Ortho fire ant powder to treat fire ant mounds, but new mounds keep popping up. My kitchen needs to be spotlessly clean to keep small ants at bay during warmer months. I also have a 20lb dog who enters/exits the house at will through a doggy door - and he loves to roll in the grass/weeds. Seeing the need to utilize more liquid solutions (rather than continuing to spread granular herbicides and fertilizers), I purchased a battery-powered backpack sprayer to apply herbicides, fertilizers, and pesticides to restore the lawn and create a pest-free environment. I have 32oz of Permethrin SFR (36.8%) (non-returnable) for the pesticide, but I’m willing to purchase something else. Considering the tools and supplies I already have, could you please provide tailored suggestions for managing my pest issues? I’m open to switching pesticides and purchasing equipment. If I had to guess, I think you’ll say to use up the Premethrin I have on hand, spread it across the lawn AND around the perimeter of my house using a hose sprayer (using proper PPE including a respirator among other items). Spray liberally on the ground around the perimeter of the house (and around the perimeter of all hard surfaces) to help the treatment prevent a termite infestation. Then use the backpack sprayer (or a pump sprayer) to treat around doors and windows, spraying eaves and the underside of patio roofs. Be mindful of how much and how you mix the pesticide using the different application methods (see video for reference). Treat every 90 days or as needed when pests appear. Switch to Bifen XTS when Permethrin is gone. You’ll probably reference the standing water points you mentioned, but I do not have standing water on my property. As for the attic and second-story eaves, I’m not sure what you’ll say but I’d love to get your comments. Please note that I’ve been in more than a few hundred attics (at least) and my attic requires Tarzan-like skills I no longer have to traverse. Thank you so much for your time and assistance. Your videos continue to be a fantastic resource, and any additional advice would be greatly appreciated!

      Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. For some reason TH-cam held your question for review. I was only able to get access to it today.
      Thank you so much for those kind words. Very much appreciated.
      I am so sorry that you're having these pest problems, but I think I can help. The thing you need to understand about pyrethrums is that they are excellent to achieve a fast knockdown of just about any pest you can imagine, but they have very limited residual properties. The company may claim that the product will last up to 30 days outdoors, but I think that's a real stretch. The truth is that they will probably stop working soon after the liquid dries. Unless you soak your lawn really well with it, then you probably are not going to reach many of the pests that are harboring near the dirt. That's a lot of soaking, even with the hose end sprayer. If you use Bifen XTS with a hose and sprayer, it still may not get down to the roots and the dirt, but it does have at least a 60 day residual action, so any pests that venture onto the treated area are going to die within a few hours. You are doing the right thing treating the fire ants with the Ortho Fire Ant Killer, but you should treat your entire yard with the Bifen XTS before you apply the fire ant killer. This way, any new mounds that try to form will come in contact with the pesticide and they will die out before they even get started. I treat my yard every 60 days and I have no fire ants, or any other kind of ants for that matter. I always know when it's getting time to retreat, because I start to see a couple of ants on the sidewalk here and there. If I look at the calendar, then sure enough, it's been about 60 days. When I first moved here about 12 years ago, this place was loaded with fire ants. After I did this treatment, I haven't seen any since. In addition to treating the yard, you also need to treat around windows, doors, electric meters, pipe penetrations, fascia boards, and soffits. I know full well that I'm not supposed to do it this way, but the truth is that I do all of this sort of treatment with the hose end sprayer. It is true that I am applying way more pesticide on the house then I should, but it sure does make the process go way faster. When I treat my fascia boards and soffits, it's like rain falling down. What drips off the house also helps to treat the ground under it. So, I am not concerned about it one single bit. A hose end sprayer makes the job go quick and easy. The only draw back is that it is a little messy around the windows, so you are going to get a lot of the pesticide on the glass. That does help prevent the bugs, but it does make the glass look dirty. That dingy look on the glass doesn't bother me, but if you don't like it, then you do need to use a tank sprayer to treat around the windows. I promise that if you do these procedures, then the vast majority of your pest problems are going to be over. Keep in mind that there are just a couple of pests that are very stubborn and require a more expensive treatment. These would include things like fleas and midges. Those guys can be really tough to treat. You almost must use some sort of IGR to get to them and that is very expensive. So, unless you have biting midges or a serious flea problem, the Bifen XTS is going to do a wonderful job for you. You do not need to worry about the dog rolling around to the grass. This product is safe enough for children to play on after it dries. So, just keep the dog in the house until the pesticide is fully dry. This usually takes no longer than 2 hours. It sounds like you watched my videos already on how to do this stuff, but I will give you the links anyway just in case you didn't. I don't know what to tell you about the pyrethrin. It won't be of much help to you. I can be handy for gardens though.
      I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

      You are very welcome. The sprayers in the video are no longer available, but any battery operated sprayer will work just fine. Also, this was my very first video, so I was not exactly clear that it is a good idea to use Taurus SC for your first treatment and then you can use Talstar P for all other treatments, every three months. If you want to save some money, you can use Bifen IT or Bifen XTS instead of Talstar P. Same thing, but the Bifen products have a bit of an odor to them until they dry. The XTS seems expensive, but it is mixed at 1/3 oz per gallon, so it goes three times as far and ends up being the least expensive option. You can also use the XTS in a hose end sprayer to treat your yard, so it is a very versatile product. I will give you links below. Be well my friend.

      Thanks. Please note that you can alternate between the Taurus SC and the Talstar P. That is to say, that you can start with the Taurus SC, then three months later use the Talstar P, then three months later to go back to the Taurus SC, and so forth. The Taurus SC is a great product to use, but it is only labeled for use every six months, but it only lasts about 3 months. I don't think I was really clear in the video about that point. If you would like to save some money, you can use Bifen IT instead of the Talstar P. They are the same product, but the Bifen is a bit less expensive Also, the sprayers that I show in the video are no longer available. I will give you a recommendation for a sprayer and that should serve you very well.

      Congratulations on doing your pest control for so long. Good for you. In case you're interested, I have an updated video on this topic. The new video uses Bifen products, which are a bit less expensive. The Bifen products use the same active ingredient as Talstar P, but at a more attractive cost. The Taurus SC works really great, but it is a bit on the pricey side. The new video will also show you how to treat high up areas using a hose and sprayer. The new video is only 8 and 1/2 minutes long and I think it would be a good investment if your time to watch it. It also discusses the advantage of treating your yard as well and it briefly explains how to do it. If you are interested in treating your yard, I have a more in-depth video on the topic. I will give you a link to both videos.
      By the way, you may want to identify the species of that roach. If it's an outside roach, then you are probably okay. However, if you are dealing with a domestic roach, like German cockroaches, that is a pretty serious problem. I will give you a link to my video on how to identify cockroach species. I think you would be well advised to watch this video.
      Thank you so much for watching. Please let me know if you have any questions. Be well my friend.

      @@GuysPestSolutions Guy, thank you so much for your prompt and thorough reply. I watched all three videos. They were very helpful. I have tried looking up that bug I referenced without luck. It is about half the size of your pinky fingernail, rounded front and back shaped like a bathtub, about 5:1 ratio length to width and only about 5/8ths inch long. We found 3 within a couple of days, 2 in a kitchen drawer in daytime, one dead one behind a piece of funiture against an outter window wall. I should have taken a pic of them. I don't recall the bug having the long antenae like most roaches. Any ideas? We live in NE FL in Ponte Vedra Beach. We have a large pond in the backyard, shrubery beds on the entire perimeter of the house and a pool. I have been using Suspend Polyzone but only treat 2-3 times per year, inside and outside. Rarely do we see a bug inside the house. I use a small Hudson pump sprayer inside and a powered backpack sprayer outside. Probably should increase that to quaterly. Also, I found a mud dauber condo in our attic. I'm planning on dousing that area with Suspend Polyzone too. When the Suspend Polyzone is gone, I will try the Bifen XTS or Taurus SC.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a bit of a challenge to identify a bug just by a description, but you may be looking at an earwig. I could be totally wrong about that. I really need to see it to identify it. Most likely this is something that came in from the outside. In Florida you really need to treat every 60 days outside. I live in Florida too and that's what I do. I always know when it's time to treat again because I will start to see ants on the sidewalk. They show up like clockwork just about 60 days after I treated. If I don't do another treatment, then it's a safe bet that I will start to see them in the house within a couple of weeks. If you do the Bifen XTS treatment on the house and the yard, then you will never need to treat the inside of the house, unless you carry in something like German roaches, fleas, or bed bugs. Wasps will never make it into your attic again. My house is 100% pest free, inside and out. The hose end sprayer makes it very fast to do. You are going to love it. You may get some sticker shock when you see the price of the Bifen XTS, but keep in mind that it gets mixed at 1/3 ounce per gallon of water, so it is very inexpensive per finished gallon. It is the cheapest pesticide that I have found so far per finished gallon. One gallon will treat my house and my entire yard 3 times. It costs about $170 a gallon, so that lasts 6 months. So, it's about $28 a month. Most of that is for treating the yard. It is a lot less expensive if you just treat the house, but I don't fool around. My wife hates bugs. Maybe that's why she married me. Lol.
      I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

      I was struggling with a four-gallon sprayer for a long time before my wife asked me a simple question. She wanted to know why I didn't just fill the sprayer up halfway. I started doing that and it sure did make things a lot easier. Boy did I feel stupid not thinking of that myself. How obvious can it get? I too have had difficulty with getting to those higher up places, so what I do is I only put one gallon in the sprayer now when I try to treat those areas that are kind of hard to reach. Also, you can buy a sprayer that can put out 65 PSI and it will shoot the spray quite high. It is a 3-gallon backpack sprayer, but again, you do not need to put 3 gallons in it. This prayer puts out a lot of volume and so you can complete a job very quickly with it. I will place a link below for it.
      I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

    Thank you Guy for this informative video. I am about to cancel my Pest Control Service and really wanted to know how to move forward. In order to do it right, it seems to me that I am going to have a challenge. But, with the help of your video, I am going to have to study it.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not to fear Winnie, this is not as difficult as it may seem. Just a couple of things you may want to take note of though. The sprayers that I mentioned in the video are no longer available for purchase. I have been looking for a good, yet cheap, battery-operated sprayer, but I haven't found one yet. About the cheapest one I can find these days that will do a good job for you costs about $80. Even though it costs about twice what I paid for mine, it's still worth the investment because you are going to save a lot of money doing your own pest control. You will easily recover the price of the sprayer in just a couple of months. I will place a link below for the sprayer that I am recommending. If you want to go for a bit more money though, you can purchase a backpack sprayer with wheels that will work even better. I will place a link below for that unit as well. It costs about $200, but it's really neat because you can wheel it around easily and it does save a lot of work. Also, it can produce a lot more pressure than the other unit, which makes it very handy when you have to reach high areas like the eves. If your house is anything like mine, then some of the eaves are fairly high up. The sprayer I have does not have this type of pressure and so I always have to get out a ladder in order to treat the gables. It would definitely save me a lot of time and work if I had a unit like this, so I could avoid the ladder work. In fact, I'm getting to the age now where I think I may just ask for one of these for Christmas this coming year.
      Anyway, the other thing that you should be aware of is… I mentioned in the video that the Taurus SC is labeled for six-month use, while the Talstar P is labeled to use every three months. Those statements are true, but the thing you should know is that the Taurus SC does not last six months. The Taurus SC works a bit better than the Tallstar P, but if you're going to use the Taurus SC, you need to do an in between treatment with the Talstar P. That is to say do your first treatment with the Taurus SC, and three months later do a treatment with Talstar P, then three months later, back to the Taurus SC, and then back to the Talstar P, and so forth. The other option is to simply just use the Talstar P every three months. These products work quite differently. The Taurus SC is a slow kill product. It's what we call in the industry a non-repellent pesticide. That means that the bugs do not realize that they are crossing a pesticide and they happily take it back to their nest or colony and share it with the other bugs. That will kill off the entire nest or colony. The Talstar P works quite differently. It is more of a fast kill product, so if the bugs cross it, they are going to die fairly quickly. That means they are not going to have enough time to bring it back to the nest or colony to share it with the other bugs. The advantage to that is you will not be getting any bugs in your house ever, but the disadvantage is you will not be killing off the colony or the nest. With the Taurus SC however, you will be eliminating the entire colony. The disadvantage to it though is that, since it is a slow kill product, there may be some bug activity while the product is working. Another advantage to the Talstar P is that you can also use it on your lawn if you wish. It's certainly not necessary, but if you spray your lawn with it every 90 days, then you will be eliminating the source of the pests that would be invading your house. Taurus SC cannot be used in that way. You should never use Taurus SC on your lawn. I know that's a lot of information to take in and I hope I did not confuse you. Which approach you take is strictly a matter of preference. I can tell you that most pest controllers would probably go with the Talstar P and not the Taurus SC. I think the reason for that is primarily cost because the Talstar P is a somewhat less expensive than the Taurus SC. That's perfectly fine though because just using Talstar P by itself is a perfectly effective treatment plan. For homeowners though, alternating between these two products will most likely yield even better results.
      Sorry for the lengthy explanation. You need not be afraid to tackle this yourself. After you get going with it, you are going to discover that it's really not all that hard to do. After you do it a couple of times you are going to become an old pro at it.
      Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions you like. I am always here to help and I am more than happy to hold your hand every step of the way. Be well Winnie.

      You are very welcome. Please note that you can also use Bifen IT or Bifen XTS, instead of Talstar P to save some money. The Bifen XTS may seem expensive, but keep in mind that it gets mixed at 1/3 of an ounce per gallon instead of the one ounce per gallon that the Talstar P gets mixed at. So, the product goes three times as far, and actually costs less per finished gallon than Talstar P or the Bifen IT. These products all have the same active ingredient, but for some reason the Bifen products have a bit of an odor to them until they dry. The Bifen XTS can also be mixed in a hose end sprayer that will allow you to also treat your yard. I will give you a link to my video on how to do that. Also, please note that this was my first video, so it was not exactly perfect. I do not think I made it clear, but you should do your first treatment with Taurus SC, and then three months later you should begin treating with the Talstar P, and you do not need to use the Taurus SC again. Just treat every 90 days with either the Talstar P or one of the Bifen products. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Ray. That is so kind of you to say. Very much appreciated. You are correct that most people do not read the label, but you do have to admit that the way they do the labels can be somewhat confusing. The labels often read like War and Peace before you actually get to the part when they tell you how to mix it. Even when they finally get to telling you the dilution rate, they often salt in caveats. Still, people should take the time to read the label. It is there for a reason. I just wish they would make it somewhat easier for people to understand. I would also like to see them give you the dilution rate on the first page. How many times did you have to read through several pages of information before you got to the dilution rate? I'm kind of guessing that they do it because virtually nobody would look at any of it if the dilution rate was on the first page. Anyway. You are correct. I can't argue with that. Know the target pest, buy the right product, and read the label. Good advice.
      Be well Ray.

    Thank you for this video because I have had a Huge bug issue from ants to spiders and roaches even tho i have the roach problem a bit more under control then when i had a pest service came every month but i just found termites in my old well house and i can not afford pest control again so this is extremely helpful!

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like you have your hands full with bugs. The treatment explained in this video will help you with most of your pest problems. I recommend that you alternate between the Tausur SC and the Talstar P. Start with the Taurus SC and then treat with the Talstar P three months later. Then back to the Taurus SC in three months, and then back to the Talstar P, and so forth. This approach will be the most effective way to keep the bugs out. If you would like to save a little money, then you can also use Bifen IT in place of the Talstar P. I have found that Solutions Pest and Lawn have the best prices on these products and I will place links below for you. I also like that they always ship for free.
      There are a couple of things that you mentioned that give me some cause for concern.
      The first thing is that you mentioned that you have a roach problem. The thing is that not all roaches are the same. The treatment in the video that you watched will stop American cockroaches from entering your home, but that treatment will do nothing for other species of roaches. If you are having a significant problem with roaches inside your home, then it is possible that this could be German cockroaches. If that is the case, then you have a very serious problem. I would urge you to watch my video on how to eliminate a German cockroach infestation. I know it's a very long video at 90 minutes, but you don't need to watch the whole thing to determine if you have German cockroaches. I explained very early on in the video how to determine if you have a German cockroach infestation. If you do, then I highly recommend that you watch the entire video, so that you know how to get rid of them. This is the only video on the entire Internet that can tell you how to do it. Even pest controllers do not know how to get it done and that is why a monthly service for German cockroaches is not going to be effective. I will place a link below for that video.
      The other thing that you mentioned that is of concern to me are the termites that you have in the old well house. Again, the treatment that I explained in the video that you watched is probably not going to get rid of termites. Just like with the roaches, termites have a variety of species as well. I hate to keep giving you homework, but termites can be a serious problem. So, I suggest that you watch my video on how to determine termite species. Don't worry… It's not as hard as it sounds. There is a map in that video that will show you where drywood and Formosan termites are a problem. If you do not live in the red or orange areas on the map, then you most likely have a common variety of termites that are easily eradicated. If that is the case, then watch my video on DIY Termite Treatment. I will place a link below for both videos. The termite treatment only costs $50. If you do live in the red or orange areas on the map, then please get back to me so that we can talk about your treatment options. You should also be aware that, if you have termites in your pump house, then it is very possible that you have them in your home as well. Please get back to me after you watch the video on how to determine the termites species and I can discuss with you how to determine if you have them in your home as well.
      Please be sure to read the entire description for those videos. This is particularly true for the DIY termite treatment video. The product that you need used to be sold by Lowes and Home Depot, but they are now selling a new, but similar product that does not work. So, you must buy this product from Amazon and you do not want to confuse it with a similar product, that is made by the same company, but the new product that they came out with doesn't work. I have all of this explained in the video, so you know the exact product to order.
      Finally, for some reason, TH-cam held your comment for review. They do this every once in a while and I have no idea why. Therefore, if you want to be sure that I am getting your messages, then I would urge you to write to my email address. This is because sometimes they will hold those comments for months. In your case, it would appear that I got it right away, but you never know how long they are going to hold a comment for. My email address is guyspestsolutions@gmail.com. If you write to my email, please remind me of your case. I get a lot of mail because I help a lot of people and most of the time it’s termites or cockroaches. It is very easy to get cases confused. Just remind me that you are the person with the termites in the pump house and I will recall who you are.
      I know this is a lot to take in, but please don't worry. It sounds like you have some serious issues that need to be addressed, but this is something that you can probably do yourself. All you need to do is just take it one step at a time and before you know it your problems will be resolved.
      Be well Marissa.

      What a nice comment. Very much appreciated. By the way, I get a lot of folks wanting to know where to get a cheap sprayer. I purchased mine several years ago from Amazon for about $40 I think, but they don't sell them anymore. I have been looking for inexpensive sprayers to share with others ever since I did this video. The ones from Harbor Freight turned out to not be battery operated. Anyway, I have found one for about $80 on amazon that is a two gallon sprayer that I think will work. It's about the cheapest one I have found and I will place a link below for it in case you are interested. It's not a backpack sprayer, but it should get the job done. I have not used it, so I can't endorse it, but from what I can tell, it should be okay. The good news is that the sprayers last for years if you take care of them. I hope that helps. Thanks for the comment.

      I wasn't very clear in the video about this point because it was the first video I ever did and I was still getting my "sea legs" so to speak, but I think it makes the most sense to do the first treatment with Taurus SC and follow up treatments with Talstar P. If you would like to save some money, you can do the follow up treatments with a Bifen product. It's the same thing as Talstar P, but it costs less. It has a slight odor to it, but I think that's fine when you are using it outside. The odor goes away after it dries. There are two versions of this product. There is Bifen IT and Bifen XTS. The Bifen XTS costs more per gallon, but the dilution rate is 1/3 oz per gallon, instead of the one ounce per gallon dilution rate for the Bifen IT. So, one gallon goes three times as far. Currently, Bifen IT is selling for about $62 a gallon and Bifen XTS is selling for $162 a gallon. Sense one gallon of Bifen XTS is the same as 3 gallons of Bifen IT, it is really only costing about $54 a gallon for the Bifen XTS. That is not a huge savings, but every little bit helps. Also, the Bifen XTS works way better if you need to use it in a hose end sprayer. This is the sort of thing that you would do if you are treating your lawn. The Bifen IT has a consistency much like milk, which is a bit thick for hose and sprayers, even if you dilute the product significantly, and then it often clogs the sprayers. The Bifen XTS has a consistency like water and the hose end sprayers pick it up very easily. Either product is fine for tank sprayers that you pump up or are battery operated. So for me, I do the initial treatment with Taurus SC and then all follow-up treatments with Bifen XTS.
      I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

      First, I have an updated video on how to treat the exterior of your house that you should check out. It's a short video that will provide some great tips. I do have videos on termites and mosquitoes. Quite a few actually. With termites you need to identify the species before you can treat. I will give you a link to that video. Let me know the species and I can guide you further. Don't worry. It's not hard to do. I have 2 on mosquitoes and I will give you links to both.

      You are very welcome. I don't think I made this clear in the video, but you can do the first treatment with Taurus SC to eliminate any infestations that exist and then just use the Talstar P every 90 days after that. If you would like to save a little money, you can also use Bifen IT instead of Talstar P. Same thing but a bit less expensive. You can also use Bifen XTS. It is a lot more expensive to purchase, but you only use 1/3 oz per gallon instead of 1 oz per gallon, so it goes three times as far and actually costs less per finished gallon. So, it ends up being the most cost-effective product. The sprayers recommended in the video are no longer available, but any battery-operated sprayer will work just fine. All the products can be obtained for most states at domyown.com. Be well my friend.

      @@GuysPestSolutions are the different chemicals mentioned because it works best to alternate and not let the pest build immunity? I just purchased the Taurus SC and was going to use that every 3 months at 0.4oz.
      Also, I can’t decide between a manual pump 4 gal sprayer versus the battery powered pump. I know it will be more convenient with the battery powered but I fear it won’t last and break down easier than a manual pump which I assume will last many many years of trouble free operation.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Taurus SC does work better, but it is mostly used to knock out an existing infestation. You should mix it at 0.8 oz per gallon though. Mixing it at half strength is not a good idea. It only lasts three months though. Since you are only allowed to use it every six months, you need to fill in with another product after three months. You can use Talstar P, Bifen IT, or Bifen XTS. I have found though that, after using the Taurus SC just once, you can just use one of the other products going forward and you don't need to use the Taurus SC again. So, you can alternate every three months, or you can just stick with Talstar P after the initial treatment with Taurus SC. The result will be the same. The big difference is that going with something like Bifen XTS will be more cost effective. The important thing is to do it every 90 days. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

      Hi Mike. Thank you so much for those kind words. Greatly appreciated. It appears as though you have watched more than one of my videos because you commented on termites after watching this video and not the termite video. I am so pleased that you did that and that you enjoyed them so much. I am thinking that you are asking about treating the crawlspace with the BioAdvanced Termite Killer granules. I have gotten this question before and the answer is no. I do not recommend ever treating the crawlspace with the BioAdvanced granules. The only time you would need to treat the crawlspace is if the termite colony was located directly under the crawlspace. While this has been know to happen, it is quite rare. The infestation is almost always outside the footprint of the home and fairly deep underground, either somewhere in your yard or a neighbor's yard. Subterranean termites always colonize in the ground and never in your home. They must return to the ground and the colony fairly often to obtain the moisture that they need to survive and to bring food back to the rest of the colony. The BioAdvanced granules work because the granules release a pesticide that the termites have no choice but to pass through on their way home. It is nonrepellent, so the termites do not even know that it's there. This pesticide does not kill immediately, so the termites bring it back to the colony and they share it with the other termites, including the queen. After that it's lights out for the entire colony. Since this pesticide is a slow kill, it takes about four to eight weeks for the entire colony to die off. This is not a problem because termites are slow eaters and they will not do much more damage in this short period of time. If you are still seeing activity after eight weeks, then you may have a colony under the crawlspace and if that is the case, then get back to me and I will tell you exactly how to treat for it. I doubt if that will be the case though. Finally, if you are seeing mud tubes, and I'm guessing you are, then you can give the process a boost if you like. This is an optional treatment to add to the BioAdvanced granules that is not necessary, but will speed up the process. Just break open each mud tube about two inches long and shoot a fipronil foam onto the surface where you made the break and shoot some inside the tube. The fipronil foam works the same way as the BioAdvanced granules, but it's great because you are hitting the termites directly. They will rebuild the tubes and happily take the fipronil back to the colony. I will place a link for it below. Any fipronil foam works, but FiPro is the cheapest and it is only available from Solutions Pest and Lawn. You can get similar products from Amazon, but be sure that the active ingredient is fipronil. After about eight weeks, break open one of those mud tubes and see if there is still activity. My guess is that you will not find any, but if you do, then get back to me. Finally, for some unknown reason, TH-cam held your commend for review. Sometimes when they do this I don't get to answer the comment. If you write to me and I don't answer, then TH-cam is blocking you. This has happened to me about four times so far. You should know that I always answer all comments, so if you don't hear from me, then post a comment on the DIY Termite Treatment video. Apparently the only video that has this problem is the DIY General Pest Control video. I have contacted TH-cam about the problem, but they were unable to correct it. Sorry for the long read. I hope that helps.

      Hi Gustavo. The truth is that I am more of a bug guy than an arborist. In fact, if you want to kill a plant of any kind, other than weeds, then just place it in my care. If I had to grow my own food I would starve to death. Anyway, I did some digging for you and it would appear that this could be caused by a couple of types of fungus. How to treat it depends upon the kind of fungus you have and you can tell by looking at it. I will place a link below for an article I found on the subject. Once you have identified the fungus, then you can probably find a solution to the problem by simply going to a local nursery and asking them how to deal with it. They may even stock the exact products you need. I'm sorry that I cannot be of more assistance.

I now have it fixed, but not before your question and several others did not get answered. Anyway, the answer to your question is yes. The spiders will die either way, but your home will look better if you clean up the webs first. If you do this treatment every three months, then you will never have spiders again. Thanks for the question and, again, so sorry for the delay.

    Hey guy,
    Very informative video, lots of good information. Thanks for doing them.
    I live south by Houston in Texas.
    Found some sub tubes on my second story ceiling, on the north side.
    Found some wings in the bathroom window too on the south wall, on the north side of the south wall.
    And tubes here and there along the entire west wall of the house.
    Found one dead termite with wings.
    Nothing alive though.
    Looks like they're already in half of my house. Which was built new in 2010.
    I though they ate older homes.
    Any way , I bought some FiPro foam and was going to put in the holes in the sheetrock up stairs in between the studs.
    And Taurus sc was entertaining trenching the perimeter.
    I wasnt going to hold you to anything.
    But I was wanting to hear your thoughts
    Other than tearing out some sheetrock and hoping to see some live activity.
    My attic doesnt have much height to help with visibility of damage. I could only find
    Tubes along the top plate in the north wall ceiling.
    Thanks Joe

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Joe. Yes, I do have some thoughts. First, you should know that the termites that have wings are called swarmers and they are made up of new queens and kings that are looking to start a new colony. They only live a short time when exposed to the air, so if they cannot find a place to start the colony, then they will die. Hence the dead bodies. Now, if you just find the wings, then it begs the question, "Where are the bodies?" Swarmers shed their wings before establishing a new colony, so if there are wings and no bodies, then they may have succeeded in starting a new colony. Here is where it gets interesting and perhaps somewhat confusing if you don't know how termites work. You live in an area where there are basically three kinds of termites. You have the plain vanilla subterranean termites, drywood termites, and Formosan termites. Mud tubes are only created by subterranean termites and Formosan termites. Drywood termites do not create mud tubes, so I think we can rule them out. The plain vanilla subterranean termites typically build the mud tubes low to the ground and eat their way up, so it is not common to see mud tubes too far from the ground, unless the infestation has been around for a long time. That makes me wonder if these guys are not Formosan termites. These guys often build the mud tubes on upper levels of the home and unlike other species of subterranean termites, Formosan termites have the ability to colonize in your walls. Other species of subterranean termites must return to the ground fairly often to obtain moisture and to feed the rest of the colony. Formosan termites do not. Many of them will return to the colony, but some may well build "cartons" inside your walls to create sub-colonies and those termites never need to return to the ground. Also, Formosan termites are the most aggressive eaters in the termite world. They are capable of doing a lot of damage really fast. Obviously, I have not inspected your house, but if I were a betting man, just based on what you have told me already, I would put my money on Formosan termites. I may be wrong, but that seems to be where the road will lead. However, you need to be sure. So, my recommendation is to call a pest control company and ask for a free inspection for termites. Just about all pest controllers will do the inspection for free. After the inspection, ask them what species they are and ask them for a treatment plan. You have a right to know what the species is and how they plan to treat them. I like the mom and pop outfits the best because they usually do not use the high pressure sales tactics that the national companies use. Most of the time the national companies are sending a sales person that wants to get you to sign a contract. The local folks usually have no sales training and the person that inspects your house is most likely the person who will treat it. Naturally, they will give you an estimate. When they do, just tell them that you will be getting several estimates, thank them for their time, and tell them that you will get back to them. Again, be sure they list the species and treatment plan on the estimate. You want to know the chemicals that will be used and where they will be used. Most likely they will trench the house, but for Formosan termites it will require interior treatment as well. Once you have this information, just get back to me and I will guide you further. Please note that your comment was held for review by TH-cam. I don't know why. So, if you do not hear from me within a day or two, then please write to me at my email address. It's guysyoutube@mail.com. This is just "mail" and not gmail. If you write to this email, please remind me of who you are and what the question was. You can copy and paste if you like. @GuysPestSolutions  ปีที่แล้ว

      Virtually all of the liquid products depicted in my videos are perfectly safe for kids and pets, after they are dry. So, just keep the kiddies in the house while you are applying the pesticide. It dries very quickly, so they will not have to be in there very long. After that, they can play on it all they want. It is a little-known fact that there was a law enacted by congress in the late 1990s that required all pesticides to be safe for children after they have dried. If you would like to know more about the truth about how hazardous pesticides really are, then please have a look at my video on the subject. I will place a link below.

    Awesome video. So helpful. What do you recommend for springtails? They seem impervious to standard pesticide.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Springtails need moisture to survive, and they eat decaying matter and mold, so if you have them indoors, then lowering the humidity and removing any mold will help a lot. Most of the time, these guys hang out in bathrooms and other areas of high moisture. The good news is that they do not travel very far from their nests, and that is why you don't see them everywhere. The way I treat them is to use a deltamethrin dust. The one I like to use is D-Fense dust. You simply fill a duster halfway and then dust pipe penetrations, under baseboards, and any other cracks and crevices where you are seeing these guys. You want the exit tube on the duster to be at the top. The deltamethrin dust is waterproof and it lasts about eight months. They get into your house from the outside, so doing an exterior treatment, including the yard, would be a good idea. I will give you a link to my video on how to treat your yard. It is also a good idea to treat the exterior of the house as well. I have an updated video on how to do that.

    Hi Guy, great videos and thanks for sharing your expertise with us! I am remodeling a 90 year old abandoned home to use as a get away cabin and hunting camp. The biggest problem is spiders. The place is still under construction however we do have it dried in with new subfloor. It is off grade. Spiders have collected inside the house and in the corners of the roof rafters. Do you have any recommendations?

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steve. There are any number of ways to deal with spiders. Sometimes the best way to do it is to simply knock them down with a broom and step on them. When you remove the webs with a broom, you also remove the egg sacks as well, so no more spiders. You can also use a vacuum to do the same thing, then just throw away the vacuum bag or clean out the container if there is no bag. Shop vacs are great for this job. Another way to do it is to mix up some of that Talstar P and spray the webs. This product has a fast knockdown and a residual, so that it will kill the baby spiders when they emerge. Of course, that will not remove the webs and who wants a bunch of spider webs all over the place? So, again, removing the webs with a broom or vacuum is probably the best thing to do. The exterior treatment described in this video will prevent them from entering again. I hope that helps.

      Photos do help me a lot. It's almost like being there and it allows me to get it right every time. That being said, it sounds like you have a typical house with a Florida room in the back and an attached garage with a concrete driveway. If this is the case, then just treat around that Florida room the same way as the rest of the house. A concrete driveway that leads up to an attached garage is admittedly a week link, but if you treat both sides of the driveway, it is unlikely that you will have a problem. It can happen, but it's pretty unusual. If you should start to see activity around the garage doors, then we would need to treat that one area differently. So far, I have only run into that situation one time and that was because it was not possible to treat the sides of the driveway because it was a tuck under, with concrete walls on each side of the driveway that were six feet tall. So, there was no way to apply the granules on the sides of the driveway. Other than that, I have never run into a problem.
      I hope that helps.

    Hi there! I first want to say thank you so much for this video!!!... but if you don't mind I would like to share a situation I currently have.. and had a few months back.
    I live in N.C. and my home is about a year old. The builder put sod in the front and part of the side yard. My home is on a corner lot so I have a decent sized yard. I have some grass now but it's very patchy. When I walk my yard notice that I have a lot of large ant hills which might explain my issue I had a few months ago.
    My kitchen was crawling with ants they were coming out from behind my stove, my upper cabinets, and out of the electrical sockets... it was a sight to see. I keep my home very clean so I didn't have any crumbs out to "feed" the ants..
    Later the next day I noticed lots of ants crawling on the baseboard in my laundry room which is on the 2nd floor.....it looked like hundreds of them were in a basket full of clean clothes that was on the floor in my laundry room. I ended up throwing the entire basket of clothes away 😡 it was just too much to try to deal with.
    The ants are not in the house now, but I think that's only because the weather is cooling off ??🤔 and my fear is once Spring/Summer comes back around I will face the same problem.
    My current problem is Silverfish in my house. I am killing at least 4 or 5 a day!! And it is so annoying...I also have had a few centipede looking creatures in my garage...
    and lastly the darn spiders. I am terribly afraid of spiders and my neighbor killed a huge brown recluse for me that was on my front porch and I had another on my patio that I drowned using the Ortho Home Defense spray..this was all within days of each other about 3 weeks ago.
    I will be honest, I am quite uncomfortable in my home and a bit paranoid to even sit outside and enjoy this beautiful fall weather we are having because I'm scared for myself and family of one of us getting bit by those god awful spiders or the lingering ants that are still around.
    Lastly, they builder has a contract with some termite company here. I have these round green plastic looking inserts pushed down in the yard all around the house... maybe about 7 total... they said it's where they inject the termite repellent.. if I can get those green things opened myself can I use any of the products in this video for termite prevention inside the green things in the yard? (Sorry I'm not sure what they are called)
    And if you have any suggestions on how I can prevent another ant infestation in my home..and get the ant hills out of my yard... how to get rid of these horrible spiders, and these annoying silverfish in my house??
    Sorry for the long post...I just wanted to be descriptive as possible for any feedback if you have the time. Thanks again for this great video!!

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh my, you have some real pest problems. I am so sorry that you are going through this. Let's see if we can get some of this unpacked for you. As bad as it all seems, I think we can get control over all of it.
      Let's start with the ants. Before you can effectively treat them you need to figure out the species. This is not as difficult as you might imagine. Just catch one without crushing it or spraying it with pesticide and have a look at it with a magnifying glass. Take note of how large it is. If it's a really big, black ant, then they could be carpenter ants. If they are much smaller, then you may be looking at a fairly common kind of ant that likes to colonize inside your home. Take note of the color of the body parts. Ants have three body parts. A head, a thorax, and an abdomen. The body parts can be all the same color or they can be different colors. Just write back to me and let me know the approximate length of the ant and the color of the body segments. Also, take note of the area between the thorax and the abdomen and see if there are any humps between those body parts. If there are, then let me know if there is one or two humps. Armed with this information, we can pretty much devise a treatment plan.
      Most ants and other pests typically live outside, but will enter the home when they do not like the climate conditions outside. So, you should do the treatment described in this video as soon as possible. Start with the Taurus SC. Three months later, treat with the Talstar P. Three months after that, treat with the Taurus SC again, and so forth. You must treat every three months and you must alternate the products. I was not clear on that in the video. If the ants are living outside, then this will stop them cold.
      Now, let's talk about those ant mounds in the yard. They could be fire ants and those could be the ants that are entering your home. In any event, they are very easy to treat. I have a video on how to treat fire ants and it only costs about $10 to treat your entire yard. This will work even if these are not fire ants. This stuff will kill off any kind of anthill. I will place a link below for the video. This product works overnight, so the ants will be dead the next day. So, wait about 48 hours and then treat the entire lawn with the Talstar P. You just need to use a garden hose sprayer that will dispense the pesticide. I will provide a link for a good garden hose sprayer. Mix the Talstar P one part Talstar to one part water. To do this, just fill the sprayer container half way with Talstar and then top it off with the water and shake it up after you screw it back on the sprayer. It helps to put a dye in too, so that you can be sure that the product is being dispensed. I will give you a link for that as well. Set the sprayer for two ounces per gallon or four tablespoons. Then just spray down the entire lawn with it. This will kill off every bug in the entire lawn. Repeat the process every time you notice that you are getting ants roaming around outside. I usually do it about every 60 days, but I live in Florida and we have a lot of ants and other pests. You may only need to do it every 90 days. Just use your best judgement.
      Silverfish are also an outside pest that will enter the home when they do not like the weather outside, but they may remain in the home and actually breed in the home. So, the exterior treatment will prevent new ones, but you are going to need to treat the ones you already have. I do not have a video on silverfish yet, but Solutions Pest and Lawn has a fairly good one. I will place a link below for it. Keep in mind that silverfish love moisture, so running the air conditioning and keeping it cool in the home will help to deter them because the air conditioning will remove a lot of moisture from the air. Also, they don't mention this in the video, but you can put some of the Talstar P that you mix up for the outside treatment and put it in a spray bottle. Then, in addition to what they show in the video, just spray the baseboards where you are seeing the problem. Also, these guys love books, cardboard boxes, stacked or filed paper, and so forth. So, have a look at these items to find places where they may be hiding. I know this may sound crazy, but if you have a book that has silverfish, just put the book in a plastic bag and tie it off with a string. Don't use a metal twisty tie. Then put it in the microwave for a couple of minutes, along with a half cup of water. Microwaves need liquids in them or you can damage the unit, so don't forget the half cup of water. The cup of water should not be in the bag. Silverfish also have water in them, so the microwave will literally cook them to death, while leaving the book unharmed. Microwaves only heat water and not paper. If the book is wet, then the moisture will get hot, but not enough to damage the book. Two minutes should do the trick.
      Now for the spiders. They are super easy to get rid of and control. First, they must be getting in from the outside, so the exterior treatment will prevent most of the new ones from coming in. To get rid of the existing ones, just spray the webs with Raid Flying Insect Killer. You can get it anywhere. It works fast, so just wait about 10 minutes and then remove the webs with a broom or dust mop. You should also spray behind the headboards of the beds and under the beds as well. Also, spray under and behind the couch and other furniture as well. Just fog the heck out of those areas. Do one room at a time, so you don't need to stay in that room while the mist is settling. It will have a smell, but that is not harmful. You just don't want to breath in the mist. It's just that easy. After you do the exterior treatment, you will find that spiders are no longer a problem. The exterior treatment will also prevent brown lacrosse spiders as well. Not to mention things like American cockroaches and wasps too.
      Finally, let's address the termite stations around the house. Those things do not repel termites. What they do is monitor for termites. Typically there is no bait or poison in them at all, but rather something like cardboard, wood, or a nonpoisonous bait that will attract termites. The idea is to check the stations every couple of months for activity. If there are termites in the stations, then the pest controller switches to a bait that will kill the entire colony. They work well, but they are not worth paying for. If you are getting charged a monthly or yearly fee, then you can discontinue that service. All you need to do is apply BioAdvanced Termite Killer granules to the perimeter of the house every year and you will never have termites. So, it only costs about $50 a year and you are good to go. It's way cheaper than paying for that monitoring service and it's super easy to do. I happen to have a video on that as well and I will place a link below for it.
      Okay. There was a lot to cover there and I hope I addressed all your questions. Please get back to me regarding what the ants look like that are inside the house and I will explain how to treat for them. Again, I am so sorry that you are having this problem.

      @@GuysPestSolutions Thank you so very much for taking the time to read my message and responding with very descriptive details to each question I had. I really, really appreciate that.
      I did have a change to take a quick picture of one of the ants that was in my garage yesterday. It was black, it's body seemed to be larger in the back and smaller as it went up towards it head, it also had long antennas sticking out of it's head. It was a medium sized ant. The ants in my yard are kinda smaller and look brownish red, I believe they are red ants. I couldn't get too close and I honestly was a little scared because it was so many of them. My boyfriend shook some Sevin dust on them ( that stuff from Lowe's Home Improvement store... and poured white vinegar on the ant hill) I'm pretty sure that wasn't the best remedy, but that's all we had around the house at the time.
      I am definitely going to purchase the Taurus and Telstar solutions and the sprayer and we are going to get to work. I want to do everything in our power so I can feel comfortable in and outside of our home.
      I did forget to mention that I have an attic, will I need to get someone to walk around and spray in the attic as well? The ants that were in my laundry room which is on the 2nd floor I have no idea where they were coming from, but my attic access door is in my laundry room. When we had the ant infestation in the laundry room during the summer they looked as if they were coming from between the floor and baseboard.. I know I mentioned I had no idea where they were coming from, when I say that I mean are they coming from inside the walls, drywall between the insulation?? That's what had me puzzled.
      I am willing to do whatever it takes and what myself and my boyfriend are able to do to keep all these critters out of our house preferably out of our yard . I know all insects have a purpose in being on the earth, but they are not welcome in our home. 🙂
      Thank you so much again for your help!!! You are very kind sir.

      I will bet that the ants outside are fire ants and the best way to get rid of them is to treat each mound with Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer. Just watch the video I listed in my last response. This will literally kill all the ants overnight. If you want to know for sure if these are fire ants, just take a stick and knock off the top of the ant mound. If thousands of ants quickly appear and are swarming all over the place, then these are definitely fire ants.
      Without actually looking at the black ants in the house, I would bet that they are carpenter ants. If they are all black and are about 1/4 to 5/8 inches long, then they are most likely carpenter ants. This is a big problem and it sounds like you have a very extensive infestation that needs to be treated right away. I happen to have a video on how to do this and I will place a link to it below. If these gals (The are all female) are in the attic, then they are busy tunneling through your roof rafters and that can result in a catastrophic failure of the roof. So, this is very serious and not something you can wait on. You need to get going with it right away. It is important to follow all the steps in my video. Everything I recommend is done for a reason, so do not skip any part of the treatment. You need to treat all parts of the house, including the attic and even areas where you have not see the ants.
      Now, carpenter ants like wet wood, so if these gals are in the attic, that would also suggest a roof leak or high moisture content between the rafters and any covering over them like drywall. Often times homeowners will put a covering directly onto rafters in an attic without allowing for airflow on the rafters. When you cover up rafters you need to install air vents. Failure to do this will result in high humidity in the enclosed space and that will result in rotting wood and carpenter ants. So, the best thing you can do is to get a licensed inspector or general contractor to have a look at the construction of the roof to see if there is adequate airflow to the rafters. At the same time, they can evaluate if there is sufficient structural damage to warrant repairs. If the proper venting was not installed, then that needs to be done right away. This is not a job that most homeowners should attempt themselves because it is important to have roof venting for exit air and soffit venting for intake air. So, you really need to know what you are doing. If work needs to be done, then please take the time to get at least three estimates. Prices from contractors can vary quite a bit. I am so sorry that you are having this problem and I don’t mean to frighten you, but it is important that you understand what may be going on here and how dangerous it may be.
      Please let me know if you need any guidance to help you through any of this. I am always here to help in anyway possible and I’m not going anywhere. Feel free to use me as much as you need to.

      I am the person who found a tube inside my house, nothing in it. You advised to pull the baseboard back and I did have about a foot of soft baseboard and I pulled it back and it’s deteriorating. I didn’t see anything behind it. I have used the suggested formula outside about a week ago. I live in NC and I jumped the gun using that I guess. I lost where we first started communicating, but you last told me you would suggest something for behind the baseboard after I pulled it out.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeneanne. Yes. I remember you very well. It is very unusual to find termite damage and no termites. It's hard to believe that the BioAdvanced granules would work in just a week, but I suppose anything is possible. I'm still wondering if your neighbor that faces the side of the house where the damage was treated for termites. All subterranean termites live underground, so if your neighbor treated for termites, that may have gotten rid of your infestation as well. Also, you live in a place where Formosan termites are a possibility, but again, it sounds a lot like these guys are gone. Anyway, what I suggested was to locate the wall studs that are behind the affected baseboard and push on the drywall that is covering the studs with a screwdriver. If the screwdriver goes right through or it feels really soft, then you may have an infestation in that stud. If it feels solid, then there is a good chance that the infestation was limited to that one baseboard. In any case, the BioAdvanced granules should take care of it, but if one of the studs does feel soft or the screwdriver goes right through, then you can do a spot treatment with fipronil foam just to make sure that you get them. I use FiPro foam because it's the cheapest and I like the applicator tip a lot. I will place a link below for it. Just drill a hole that is wide enough for the applicator tip to go in and make the hole about two inches deep. Drill more than one hole. I would start at the floor level and drill two or three of holes vertically about three inches apart into the studs that you suspect are infested. Then shoot the foam in for about five seconds. If the foam starts coming out the other holes, then there is a gallery in that stud, or at least there was, and the foam will take care of it for sure. If the foam shoots right back out at you, then there is probably no infestation. Again, the BioAdvanced does the same job, but hitting these things directly is never a bad idea if you know for sure where they are. The fipronil works exactly the same way as the BioAdvanced. The termites will not realize that they are being poisoned and they will carry it back to the colony and share it with the other termites, including the queen. Then it's lights out for the entire colony. Fipronil works faster than the BioAdvanced, so hitting them directly will speed up the process. The BioAdvanced generally takes between two to eight weeks to eliminate a colony and hitting them directly should keep the time down to about two to four weeks. Exactly how long it takes depends on a whole variety of factors, but it should be a sure thing, unless you have Formosan termites. I do not suspect that to be the case though. I can't be certain without inspecting, but my gut tells me that these are most likely a common species like eastern subterranean termites. So, you should be okay. By the way, if you still have the baseboard off, then dig into the back side of it with a knife or screwdriver and see if there are any dead bodies in there. I'm just curious. I'm guessing that you will find nothing, but it's worth checking. If you do find a specimen, then take a photo of it and I will tell you where to email if for a positive identification. Get as close as you can and make sure the termite is in focus. I hope that helps.

      The studs are actually pretty easy to find. There are two ways to do it. The first is to buy a stud finder from Home Depot, Lowes, or Amazon. I will place a link below for one. They are very easy to use. Just follow the directions. The other way is to simply lightly tap on the wall with a hammer. The sound will change when you tap on a place where there is a stud. Then just take a four penny finishing nail and hammer it into that spot. You will know when it hits a stud because it will be hard to hammer in. If there is no stud, then it will go right through. A four penny nail is very narrow and you won't even notice that small hole much. Then you can just fill it in with a little spackling compound that you can get from Lowes or Home Depot. Just push a little in the holes with your finger and wipe off the excess with a damp sponge. It's very easy to do. A cheap stud finder only costs about $10 and that should do it for you. This is exactly what a handyman is going to use. Also, almost all pest control companies will do a free termite inspection for you and they will go under the house for free. I would call a mom and pop outfit and not Terminix or other national company. The national companies usually send out a trained sales person and they are often high pressure to get you to sign a contract. The mom and pop outfits will generally just come out and tell you what you have and give you an estimate. If they do find an active infestation, then ask them the species to be sure that these are not Formosan termites. If they are not Formosan, then you've got this already covered. Just thank them for their time and let them know that you want to get several estimates before you proceed. Also, get a written treatment plan from them to see how they plan to treat the problem. You have a right to know the species and the treatment plan. I hope that helps.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Borate works pretty well and it is pretty much non toxic. I use it for some applications, but I find that it's best for interior use. The problem on exterior use is the weather. It stops working if it washes away. I often use a product called Bora-Care to treat and prevent termites in the attic, crawlspace, or basement. It also works well on unfinished decks, even though they are outside, because it penetrates all the way through the wood. If left undisturbed, borate pretty much lasts forever and you never need to retreat. So, you are correct that borate is a wonderful alternative to more harmful pesticides for certain applications. Another very safe and effective alternative is boric acid dust. You can puff it into cracks and crevices with a hand held duster inside the home and it too lasts forever. You can also place the dust under appliances. It's deadly to insects, but very safe for people and pets. Thanks for pointing that out and thanks for watching.

      @@GuysPestSolutions this is all exactly accurate to what I have been learning as well. Thanks for the point about using a hand held duster and a powder boric acid. I may use that for my indoor drywood termite issues. Best wishes

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whoooo. Hold the phone! Did you just tell me that you have drywood termites? No, no, no. You will never get rid of drywood termites with just a dust. These guys are wicked bad and, unlike subterranean termites, they do not need to return to the ground. The colonize in your wood, so it's super challenging to get rid of them, short of tenting the entire building and fumigating with a gas. It is possible to spot treat for them, but there is no guarantee that you will get them all. I do not have a video on drywood termites yet, but Solutions Pest & Lawn has a fairly good one and I will place a link below for it. I will try to get one done sometime this year, but don't wait for mine. This is a serious problem and you need to get on it as soon as you can. Now Solutions will tell you that their system is pretty much 100 percent, but it isn't. These guys can be in the wall studs where you can't detect them and even experienced pest controllers miss some of the galleries at times. That is why you will almost never see them give you a structural warranty for drywood termites. The best they will do is retreat within a year if you find more termites and that's pretty hard to do if they are inside the walls behind the drywall. I don't mean to scare you, but that is the situation you have if you have drywood termites. If you can catch a swarmer (they have wings) take a look at the color of the body and the wings. If the body is reddish in color with gray or blackish wings, then they are probably drywood termites. Otherwise they may be a different species and we need to talk further. By the way, TH-cam keeps holding your comments for review, so if I don't get back to you, please write to me at guysyoutube@mail.com. Please note that it is not gmail. Just mail. Thank you so much for those kind words. The pesticides can be purchased from domyown.com. None of the big box stores carry any of them. The sprayers are no longer available. Just purchase any battery-operated sprayer from Amazon and you should be okay. Just do the first application with Taurus SC. After that you can use Bifen XTS. I don't show it in the video, but I it's a cheaper way to go. It looks expensive, but it gets mixed at 1/3 oz per gallon, instead of 1 oz per gallon like Talstar P, so it goes a lot further and ends up being a bit cheaper per finished gallon.

    Hello Guy. I can't find my comment thread with you, but I was the one who was going to drill through the concrete apron around the side and back of my house in Southern Illinois. You mentioned maybe not drilling and trench around the concrete instead. I went ahead and drilled it.... 90 holes and it only took me 2 drill bits. Actually, the 3rd bit fell down one of the holes. LOL. I should have wrapped tape around the top of the bit. It went well. There were maybe 10 holes that wouldn't take much of the Taurus solution. So, I took an old piece of hollow brake line and rammed it down the hole trying to pull out as much dirt. Just finished stuffing some hot water pipe insulation down in the holes and filling the holes with crack sealer. Down the line, I could always have a pro come out. The holes have already been made, and he can treat with a spraying wand. Honestly, I think I am all set with your help. Thank you.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  ปีที่แล้ว

      How close are the holes? The problem is that the termiticide may not expand underground so that there is a continuous barrier. The material that goes down each hole must meet the material from the next hole. The pros inject it under pressure. You would need to drill the holes very close together for it to work well. I mean like, every 4 inches apart. That is why I say to trench around the concrete. It works just as well as rodding under pressure. Now, you may get lucky and the termites will go through the termiticide that you applied, but they may just go past it too, if there is a gap between the holes. They won't look for that untreated area because they don't know the difference, so it's just a matter of luck. If you get lucky, they will travel through the termiticide. If you get unlucky, then they will miss it and the treatment will fail. Do you see what I am saying? I'm not sure if I am explaining it very well. How well it will work also depends upon how porous the ground is. It will work better in sandy soil than it will in clay.
      I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

    • @bg147
      @bg147 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GuysPestSolutions That makes perfect sense. The holes are 8 inches apart. I can have a pro come out. The problems in the past were the basement windows and I drilled the holes very closely around the window. My biggest concern was possible termites already in the house and why I wanted to treat the soil closer to the house. I could have a company come out and use the holes I drilled.

      @@GuysPestSolutions Also, I forgot to mention, there is an alley that runs along my concrete walk, and I couldn't trench it.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you cannot trench, then drilling and rodding is your only option, but if you have dirt next to the concrete, then you can usually just trench around the concrete. Remember, the termites are not colonizing in your home and most likely not colonizing under your home or under the concrete. They are most likely outside the footprint of all of that stuff. Since they only travel a couple of inches below the top of the dirt, they will cross through a barrier that is outside the concrete. As long as the barrier is between the colony and the house, then they will die. Most of the time, the colony is within a 300-foot radius of the house. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

    Thank you for producing these super informative videos. We live in Northern FL in a rural heavily wooded community. Have you heard of Tekko Trio Concentrate as an indoor application for roaches, earwigs and ants? Or do you recommend The outdoor use of Taurus SC instead?

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tekko Trio Concentrate is an insect growth regulator and not an actual pesticide. It works by breaking the lifecycle of the target pest. One of the big problems with it though is that it is very slow acting. I think it is probably a fine product to mix with an actual pesticide, but I would not use it as a standalone treatment. Most of the pests that are coming into your house, are coming in from the outside. Therefore, if you do the exterior treatment every three months, you will no longer have any pests of any sort inside your house, except for the ones that either fly in through an open door or window or the ones that you carry in yourself. I know that I wasn't very clear on this in the video because it was the first one I ever did and I didn't exactly do a perfect job, but you should know that what I meant to say in the video was to alternate between the Taurus SC and the Talstar P every three months. Do the first treatment with the Taurus SC, then three months later use the Talstar P, then three months after that you go back to the Taurus SC, and so forth. Also, the backpack sprayers that I suggested in the video are no longer available for purchase. I will provide a link to the backpack sprayer that I recommend that you purchase. It's a little bit pricey, but it will serve you well for many years. After you do the exterior treatment, that should end most your bug problems. However, if you already have some pests inside the house, let me know the specific pests you have and I will tell you how to get rid of them. After they are gone, there won't be any more coming in. If you would like to save a bit of money, you can use Bifen IT instead of the Talstar P. I will provide you a link to the product.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know that I would be too concerned about bringing earwigs and roaches into the house. They are most likely going to try to make their way through the barrier that you applied around the house, rather than trying to catch a ride on your clothes or anything like that. I think what I would be more concerned with is perhaps something like fleas. These guys are hitchhikers and they will jump onto you and you can easily bring them into the house. Let me know if that seems to be a problem or if you are seeing any roaches or earwigs in the house and we can certainly address any of those issues. After you treat the exterior of the house, you may still see some of those roaches or earwigs hanging out in the house and you may need to treat for them to get rid of them. I would give it at least a couple of weeks to see if anything that you have in the house just kind of dies off on its own. Treating for the earwigs is kind of a pain in the neck, but if you've got them, then you don't have much other choice. If you do have an infestation inside, then you should only have to treat for them once. Wood roaches are pretty much an outside roach and they like to hang out damp areas, but they do not usually survive well inside. Most likely, the ones you are seeing inside did not attach themselves to you, but rather were coming in from the outside on their own. Since they do not survive well inside, there is a good chance they will just die off on their own after you do the exterior application. So, please get back to me in a couple of weeks and let me know what you were still seeing in the house.
      I hope that helps. Be well Sharon.

    Thanks much for your video - very thorough and clear! We have decided to end our $400/year pest control service and go with DIY, so your video was very helpful!
    We do have a couple questions: My wife has a number of flower gardens around our home. One in particular is right up against our home (with pine bark nuggets around the plants).
    She loves butterflies and so has certain plants (e.g., milkweed) that are host plants for Monarch caterpillars or other butterfly caterplillars. Other flowers provide nectar for the butterflies.
    So would these chemicals hurt the milkweed plants themselves? Would they hurt any caterpillars that are on the milkweed plants? Also, if a butterfly lands on a flower plant that has been sprayed, would that kill the butterfly?
    Thanks much, John :)

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great question John. Pesticides should never be sprayed on fruits, vegetables, or flowering plants unless they are within a couple of feet from the house and then the treatment should only be on the ground and maybe a couple of inches up the stems. Butterflies, bees, and other flying insects typically do not land on the ground below these plants, but rather on the flowering part of the plants. If you treat the flowering part of the plants, then yes, that could not only kill the insect that lands on the plant, but also, in the case of bees for example, it can also kill the entire hive. The problem with pesticides is that they do not discriminate. If the pesticide will kill the ants and roaches, it will also kill the butterflies. Therefore, to the greatest extent possible, you want to be careful to only apply pesticides where nontargeted pests typically will not land. Keep in mind though that you also need to do a risk vs benefit analysis. I have seen cases where there was no choice but to treat places that could harm nontargeted pests in order to eliminate other pests. So, for example, when faced with a choice of putting up with American cockroaches constantly entering the house or risking the possibility of killing some butterflies, then the homeowner needs to decide what the priority is going to be. On the other hand, if you are just doing a preventive treatment, then it's a no brainer. Don't treat where the nontargeted pests are likely to go. Every situation is somewhat different and you need to decide what is best in your situation. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

    Thanks for sharing this amazing video. Perhaps you don't know how much you are helping a lot of us in saving a fair bit of money especially during these tough times. My question is regarding the equipment. Some of us has very high walls and soffits around 10-15 feet and could you please share your thoughts on a few equipment that would help us to spray without getting drenched with chemicals. Thanks again for your great video.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your point is well taken. Did you know that there is probably no professional pest control company that will treat the soffits and some windows on a house? The rule that most of them follow is that they do not spray above shoulder height. The reason for that is because it is very easy to encounter the overspray. Of course, the problem is that the bugs don't care if there is overspray and if you live in an area where there are drywood termites for example, then you run a high risk of getting infested if you do not treat the soffits and windows because those are the most common points of entry for them. Drywood termites are very hard to get rid of and they can do a lot of damage, so it's best to prevent them rather than try to treat for them later. It's the same for carpenter ants and other pests that like to enter through the soffits and around windows and doors. So, this is really something that you must do yourself or it won't get done. Now the problem with the overspray is well taken by me and you are correct that the right equipment can help a lot. PetraTools makes a very good line of battery operated sprayers that range in price from $129 to $450 and they sell an 8 foot extension wand for their sprayers that will allow you to easily reach 12 to 15 foot heights without the need for a ladder. I will place a link below for it. Still, gravity is going to be fully in effect and that pesticide overspray is going to come down and the wind is going to make it even more tricky. What I do is shoot some of the pesticide into the air to see which way the wind is blowing and then I make sure that I am always standing away from where the wind is going to take the pesticide. That being said, as careful as I am, I almost always get some of the overspray in my face. That is why I always wear gloves, a hat, a mask, and goggles. You don't want to get the overspray in your eyes and you don't want to breath it in. However, the truth is that if you get some on your skin every three months you are not going to suffer any ill effects, as long as you take a shower after you are finished treating. This is not the same for the pros. You could suffer ill effects if you do this for a living and you get the spray on you several times a day, every day, and you don't get to take a shower until several hours after exposure. The long term, daily exposure to the pesticide is what will get you sick. An occasional exposure to the diluted pesticide that you shower off with in an hour or so should cause no harm whatsoever. I mean, you don't want to bath in the stuff, but a bit of light overspray on your arm or face that you shower off fairly soon is no big deal. Like I said, I get hit with the overspray at least once every time I do it and I have had no ill effects so far and I have been doing this for many years. So, yes, buy the best equipment you can and be as careful as you can. Always wear all the protective equipment, do your best not to get too much of the overspray on yourself, and always take a shower immediately after you are finished and wash your clothes. If you do that, then you will be fine.
      Thank you so much for those kind words. The truth is though that the people I help give me so much more than I give them. I have been around for a very long time and one thing that I learned in life is that the only things you can possess that will last forever are the things you give away. The most valuable of these are your time, your knowledge, and your love. I give these things away freely, just as often as I can. So, while I do not have a lot of money, the people I have helped have made me a very rich man. So the truth is that I should be thanking you.
      Be will my friend. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching. Please give me a like and share my channel with others. I would love to help them as well.

    Question: You make mention how dangerous it is to get the solution on yourself, but what about walking on it after it dries? It's that bad for you as well? I am concerned about kids in their bare feet. Thanks.

    • @GuysPestSolutions

      The truth is that it's not all that dangerous to get the pesticide on yourself. I just need to tell you that as a legal disclaimer. You don't want to bath in the stuff, but I get it on me all the time. The concentrate is not good to get on you, but the finished solution after you mix it is not very hazardous. Still, you should wear the protective equipment. The pesticide is safe for kids to play on after it dries. So, no worries there. I now have an updated video on how to do this that is shorter and easier to do. I will give you a link to it. Also, please watch my video that explains the truth about the actual hazards associated with using pesticides.

    Love your videos, Guy. Does this work for Scorpions? I've been using Onslaught FastCap, which may be controlling the issue, but I have a ton of earwigs in the house now.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Onslaught FastGap is a great pesticide for scorpions and spiders. It should also kill the earwigs as well, but the problem is that onslaught is a very expensive pesticide, so you may not be applying enough of it, or you may not be applying it where you need it. I know at that price, I probably wouldn't be. It sounds like you are doing a good job controlling the scorpions, so I would continue just doing what you're doing with regard to those guys. However, you may want to try an additional treatment for the earwigs.
      Earwigs are coming in from the outside of your house, so the first thing you need to do is treat your yard. You need to apply a pesticide on your entire yard and up the side of the building about 36 inches. This treatment should be done every 60 to 90 days, but it does not need to be done in freezing weather. I have a video on how to do that and I will give you a link to it.
      Now that your yard is treated, you need to get rid of the ones inside the house. Apply D-Fense dust under baseboards and in cracks and crevices wherever you see activity. You should also apply it around pipe penetrations under sinks and other plumbing fixtures. It is a good idea to remove outlet covers and apply it between the outlet box and the drywall, so that the dust gets into the wall void. All you need is a handheld duster. Fill the duster halfway and apply the dust with the spout on top.
      I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

    Hi Guy, thanks for making these videos! I've always used Ortho Home Defense. Would I notice an improvement if I upgraded to a product like Talstar P?

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the question. The short answer is "yes." You will definitely see a big difference in results. The Ortho Home Defense uses the same active ingredient as the Talstar P, but the Talstar P is more concentrated. In other words, there is more of the active ingredient in the Talstar P than in the Ortho Home Defense. Also, the Ortho Home Defense typically comes already mixed in a hand sprayer that does not apply enough of the product to do a good job. It's fine for treating around windows and doors, but not very effective for treating where the ground meets the house and also difficult to use when treating soffits. So, while the Ortho Home Defense will kill bugs, it will not do it anywhere as effectively as using the Talstar P with a battery operated sprayer. I hope that helps.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John. It works the same way with slabs or any concrete surface. Just use the product around the slab as shown. It is also the same for decks, except it's great if you can actually get under the deck and apply the product along the slab where the deck is attached to the trailer. Also, it's a good idea to place the product around all the deck posts. If you cannot get under the deck, then it would be a good idea to remove a deck board next to the trailer to get the product next to the slab. However, if you cannot do that either, then just use the product around the deck. Sorry that it took a week to answer this, but TH-cam held your question for review. I have no idea why, but I just received it this minute. Sometimes they do that and in a couple of cases they didn't let me answer for some reason. Great video! question - if you are using the Taurus SC, is it necessary to use the product recommended in your termite treatment video - the BioAdvanced Termite Killer Granules - as well, since Taurus is marketed specifically as a termiticide, as you mentioned in this video? Thanks

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Taurus SC is a great termiticide, but for it to work on termites you need to dig a trench around your house and mix it with the dirt. You can't just apply it on the surface of the ground to kill termites because it will not soak into the ground the way the granules will. Therefore, you still do need to use the termite granules. I did an updated video on how to treat your house that will save you some time and money. It's only 8.5 minutes long and contains some great tips.

    Thank you for the great videos and sharing your knowledge! I am going to treat my house myself. At my house, my concrete driveway runs directly along the side of the house into the carport. There is a small opening where the driveway meets the foundation. Is it safe to spray the Taurus SC into that crack, even if some gets on the concrete driveway? Same question for my front porch, which runs the entire width of my house.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jay. Good for you doing your house yourself. You can do it better and cheaper than the pros. You can spray virtually any pesticide directly onto concrete and into any cracks and crevices, including expansion joints in concrete. The Taurus SC is no exception. You want to spray it anywhere a bug could possibly enter the building. I always spray the driveway in front of the garage door and along both sides of the driveway where it comes in contact with the lawn. Anywhere dirt meets concrete is a breading ground for bugs and I soak those areas really good. I spray all the expansion joints and any cracks as well in the driveway and the sidewalks. You literally cannot over do it. After it dries, it is perfectly safe for people and pets to walk on. I hope that helps.

    Great videos. Do you recommend applying dust pesticide in addition to the barrier spray treatment?

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. I use dusts all the time inside and they can be very effective for exterior use as well. The problem with dusts when used outside is that they are easily washed away by the rain, so their use is limited to areas that are not exposed to the weather. So, you can use them in cracks and crevices under eves, around windows, doors, and so forth, where they won't get washed away. The best dust to use, in my opinion, is a borate dust like Nibor-D because it lasts forever, is nontoxic to people and pets, and it does not lose it's effectiveness when exposed to water. The reason I did not mention the use of dust is because dusts alone will not get the job done and they are not necessary if you treat the exterior every three months. I hope that helps. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching.

    Very informative. Thank you. What do you recommend for outdoor gnats for here in North Carolina?

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Start by looking for standing water on your property and eliminate it. Do not overwater your lawn. Just water once a week. If it rains, do not water. Over watering your lawn leads to a lot of gnats. To treat the existing population, treat your entire yard with Bifen XTS. I have a video on how to do that. Repeat the application whenever the gnats start to increase in numbers again. Keep in mind that they are also coming from your neighbor's yard too and there isn't much you can do about that. So, you can keep the number way down in your yard, but some gnats will probably visit you from adjoining properties. So, there is only so much you can do, but this should help a great deal.
      I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

    • @GuysPestSolutions

      Hi Marwan. Treating over pine straw with these products should be fine. Just be sure to use enough of the product. You want to soak it really good where the foundation meets the dirt and you want to be sure that you use enough so that the liquid gets through the pine straw to the ground. The bugs are going to be traveling under the pine straw, so that's where the product needs to be. Naturally, moving the pine straw is a sure thing and will take less treatment, but I think just soaking it really good would do the job too. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

      Evergreen is an okay brand, but the only thing that I see them making is pyrethroid based. That would not be what you want for most pest control applications because it has no residual properties. It's a fast kill product that is used primarily to achieve a quick knockdown and not a long term effect. You want something that uses a good residual ingredient, like bifenthrin.
