  • The reptiles you see in this video are just a few of the many species found in Canada's only pocket desert located in British Columbia. It is also home to an array of other plants and animals that are found nowhere else in the country

How are you have been, Northwest Herper? I would love to see more videos from you.

It’s too bad you couldn’t find our Spade footed toad! It’s actually on the endangered watch list, but we have lots here in the Valley. I saved some tadpoles from a puddle that was drying up “in the middle of the road” (not too picky I guess). I raised them till they morphed and got a little bigger then released them. As adults they can dig into the dirt and completely cover themselves in just moments because of the extra spade shaped bone in their back feet.
I didn’t know we had a blue tailed skink though - that’s cool!
There’s lots more snakes as well, but don’t tell my mom.

So whatever happened to the northwest herper? You havent posted in 5 years. Great content. Especially for your young age at the time. I'm not exactly sure where in the interior you are, but I'm in Merritt and we have a lot if the landscape and species you depict. Thanks again for sharing your passion. Hope you are doing well

This is cool! I live in the Kelowna area of the Okanagan and way too far out from places like Osoyoos where the pocket desert is. There's probably more places you can find snakes in Kelowna but I just don't know where to look.
