Not exactly, it sounds every time you feed them correctly (when they see you expressly giving them the food), I think they implemented it bc sometimes they don't detect you giving them food, be it because of the terrain cutting their vision cone or any random events that may happen while feeding, this is RW after all. The sound helps you to know if the lizard's AI processed that meal as slugcat's deed, and, as such, that you progressed in the taming process.
My process for taming greens is as follows Step 1: kill Satan incarnate (squidcada) Step 2: Throw to green Step 3: Hope it actually notices and eats it instead of chasing you Step 4: Green is too strong, it WILL get squid to its den. Nothing can stop it. Step 5: He now likes me, we are friend.

There's some flying animals called "squidcadas" that you can kill and feed the lizards
Squidcadas and Eggbugs are easy and good (eggbugs also give you some food for yourself)
