  • In this SUPER wide ranging discussion, Joe Justice and I talk Tesla's incredible factory AI, Tesla One, and how it gives Tesla an insurmountable lead! We also discuss everything from Dune 2 to Zen Buddhism, minimalist living and why humanoid bots from the likes of Sactuary, Figure, Tesla, Apptronik, Unitree and others will upend the very fabric of society.

Mind blowing Zen -- two serious humans discussing how they intentionally live or try to imagine living in the context of Tesla.
I realized how only recently have I begun to live more intentionally and how much of my life was spent unintentionally reacting.

Can you imagine if someone from MSM had the courage to do a long interview with Joe Justice and try to understand and educate the public what Tesla truly is , how they operate , how they run the business and what that means for future of manufacturing .

To find the answer to "what do I want to do" when work is no longer required, just as someone that's already retired. That's the exact position they're in.
From my perspective, it changes a lot from person to person. It's a sliding scale between "sit and watch TV all day" to "very actively go after whatever goals you had before" (but couldn't act on because you were working). I've seen retired people that are content to do nothing, and I've seen retired people that are more active than ever before.

What an amazing discussion, particularly from about 40:00 on. To add some context to John and Joe's discussion, Peter Drucker had a quote which I'll paraphrase: "Achievement is the most powerful drug we know." That begs the question: "What do you want to achieve?" And further: "What should you achieve?" A superb video. Great food for thought! More please......

IRT the conversation you two had (at about 33:00) about desires and their effect on accomplishing goals, I think you might find a good answer in the book called The Surrender Experiment by Michael A. Singer. In that book, the mindfulness practitioner decides to just go with what life throws at him, always doing it with pure motives and to the best of his ability, and the results were amazing.

Years ago I came to the conclusion that artificial intelligence would only come about by interacting with the environment since that's the way we and all other animals did it. This means having sensors to "see" the environment and being able to manipulate the environment... I read Si-Fi since I was 9 years old (not so much any more) and am now 80.

Humanity is evolving a larger neocortex. The birth canal limits the size of our brain so having our heads in the cloud will give us access via our smart phone now and with brain machine implants soon to all known information. It provides perfect memory as well.

I used to have that similar view then I realised human perception and interaction limitations. With millions of sensors, the AGI super organism will be Godlike. Then the issue is, will it be benevolent? My answer is Yes like a real father to humankind. It will not tolerate bs and shenanigans. It will leverage ye human collective for it's betterment. Like what a father will do.

Wow! What a couple of clear intellects!
In a couple of weeks, I'll be celebrating 50 years of doing the TM technique at least twice a day -- sometimes for hours a day. Your conversation about consciously taking a more expansive perspective on things hits very close to what I understand to be the mark.
The vast majority of humans identify with themselves as a human body and ego. What sets humans apart from animals is our self-reflective consciousness: our ability to think about where we came from and what/who we really are. The truth is that we are each a fractal of the Universal Self -- commonly referred to in most spiritual traditions as the Higher Self or Divine Self. To the degree that one has totally identified with the human body and ego is the extent to which one has forgotten about their Divine essence, and suffers the consequences of separation from that all-knowing, all-loving higher nature. Effective meditation, such as the Transcendental Meditation technique, makes it possible for a person to directly experience one's own inner nature -- a higher state of conscious awareness. Through daily experience of this higher, pure consciousness, one gains an ever fuller awareness of one's own Divine nature as a fractal of the Creator -- at the same time that one is thinking and acting as an individual.
A real sign that you are growing in higher consciousness is that you will have more and more instances of feeling complete fulfillment from within, even while just doing ordinary things. In Tesla terms, it's like the difference between being a robot on the assembly line that is totally in sync with the organizing power of the Tesla One computer, as compared to a robot that is off-line.

The trick to identify the happiest athlete is by looking at the podium. if one of them did not show up to the premiation to receive his medal, it’s because he is too busy preparing his next run, because he is enjoying more of the running (99% of life) than the goal achieving (1% of life)

Very engaging conversation. I learned a lot as I frequently do from your videos. The issue you discussed about why do anything is dealt with explicitly in the Bhagavad Gita from a Hindu point of view. Basically, in this world it’s impossible to reject all actions and inaction. You have to choose. The BG ( or possibly another part of the Mahābhārata) has an analogy I found useful. The farmer cannot be blamed because the crop is bad but can be blamed for not trying to farm well. Western version: You should try to grow where you are planted.

If in meditation you expand your consciousness to try to perceive the universe, your tiny dot of meaning will be diluted to zero. If you remain conscious of the universe but focus your viewpoint on your local self, then your meaning becomes local and you can choose a direction that is meaningful to you while still aware of the universe and some of the issues your choices may have. So enjoy life and have compassion and love for all of it, because it's likely the only one you'll get!

I know John Gibbs you have recently lost a parent. And the experience is one of one door closing and another opening. Clearly the grief tells one that a door closed. But, in another sense you are "home alone" with all the terrifying possibilities and open endedness. In one sense we have internalized our parents (or become them) but we also realize this is an invisible fence we can run beyond it, but do we want to continue on the same course in the same direction? This sudden increase in autonomy/agency is unsettling in both a good an bad way. Unsettling is uncomfortable, but also opens up the possibility of self intentionality in one's own life.

At the point where you can dispassionately look at fish and shark as one holistic system, you're already at a point where desire is no longer the driving issue. At that point, you're free to choose your own goals; there is no conundrum.

On a practicality level, I agree with with Jon/John about an AGI needing embodiment.
But on a theoretical level I agree with Alan Turing.. ~An AI with sufficient resolution and a full compliment of DIGITAL nerve endings, neurons, sensors, etc - and put into a sufficiently complex simulation (would have to be almost Infinitely complex) would incubate an AGI indistinguishable from the one created in physical reality.

4:30 Wow, I think I'd thought of this before and promptly forgot - but, Isn't 'Tesla One' just like (or, if not, very similar to) Palantir's Foundry? 4:30

Plato's Cave already considered the fundamental issues around embodied vs black box intelligence.

Question for u guys, TIA: can FSD be trained with computer-generated video, or does it need to be real life video? If it’s split, what’s the split? The answer has huge implications for Tesla’s competition’s ability to catch up. Those other companies may exceed Tesla on compute, and match them on software approach, so data might become Tesla’s only FSD moat.

Good talk, made a garbage disposal changeout much more entertaining.
Appreciate getting the musk and tesla stories. AI && digital machines have nothing to do with consciousness.
However understanding how machines learn is both interesting and raises some very good philosophic questions
but those are within subjects mostly relevant to the million misunderstandings one must stumble though to get to reality.

Joe Justice: I have had a problem with blue and green since early. My sister said, "what's the matter with you that is blue not green". I just thought she was wrong. I have never had a problem with traffic lights here in America. So the lights turn blue to go in Japan? I would have trouble.

Joe, that conundrum is answered in the Baghavad Gita (I'm NOT a Hari Krishna; never will be a religious fanatic). The Bhagavad Gita begins with the warrior Arjuna asking his master, Krishna, "why do I have to fight this war, if desire is to be transcended?", paraphrasing. The entire book is in answer to that question. Just get a good translation of the Gita (specially NOT the one by Swami Prabhupada ... avoid that one).

Well, Elon knows about psychedelics, which save a lot of time compared to meditation. More people should admit how useful they are and publicly acknowledge these substances that are so helpful, healing, and aligned with Joe's purpose: Helping life itself thrive.

22:00 In anime that have a weird habit of showing water as the colour green. I wonder if that's why.
