  • Dual clutch transmissions-equipped cars are quite popular in India especially among enthusiasts. And that’s the reason why most brands including Volkswagen, Skoda, Hyundai, Kia, MG and Jeep offer them here. But they have been equally infamous as well, as they tend to fail too. In this podcast, we tell you why they fail and the things that car buyers can follow to avoid any such issues in future.

      The actual reason of DSG failing in India on previous days because of VW and Skoda cars were producing more torque than official claim , that's why the DSG(DQ250) especially of their Diesel vehicles weren't able to handle that extra Torque Rush hence they over-heated and sometimes they fails .
      I'm damn sure that today's 1.5 TSI is also producing more power than claimed ones , that's why it's beating new Verna Turbo even with less Power/weight ratio .

    VW ki sena as you guys say are just car automobile lovers like you both gagan and vikas. They are not irrational and neither stupid as you highlight them to be. They love their cars as much as any other car Enthusiast does. If you observe them with open mind, they do acknowledge if other cars are better performer than their own brands as well.
    Coming to the drag race, Slavia vs Verna '23 which was the elephant in the room. The drag in your channel showed verna faster than Slavia which is totally cool considering 10 more bhps. But also, those so called tagged "VW sena" by you, also did a drag between virtus and verna and results were different slightly where Virtus stays ahead for the most part and Verna very gently surpasses between 120-140 and then virtus again overtakes verna beyond 140 kmph.
    Conclusion?
    Both the cars are almost equal when it comes to Performance. A lot of it depends on the driver, launch styles in the drag race, tyres, fuel type and other car specific factors.
    In real life, a regular common man won't even feel much difference between the two because drag race koi nahi karta real life conditions and lifestyle mein.
    I respect you both as automobile journalists but it is VERY SAD, to see people fighting and tagging each other with certain names like "VW ki sena" and what not.
    Please stop doing that. VW does make great cars, no doubts. Niggles have been existent, yes, mostly in the VW 2.0 initial manufactured cars which VW should have checked before rolling out the cars and that has been a pain in the rear for a lot of people, BUT, these have also been RECTIFIED now.
    A company which starts listening, if not sooner but later, is better than a company which does not take any action at all. I think VW is trying to be a better brand today than it was.
    Support these brands which are trying to bring superior driving quality and experience. And if they are lacking and being faulty in some aspects (like any other car brand), give them feedback and help them give us even better experiences.
    But, STOP THESE TAGGING OF NAMES LIKE "VW KI SENA". VW does make great cars and Infact superior in a lot of ways than Koreans. That's a truth.
    FACT: Before you tag me as another "VW Fanboy". I had owned a suzuki, 2 Hyundais back to back in my family. Amazing cars I must say. I shifted to VW in 2018 with 2 VWs in my fleet and my experience has been better in every way of ownership and driving than the Hyundais and Suzukis.
    I am not biased towards any brand, but, judging on the basis of factual experience, Germans have an edge. Although I totally agree, localisation has led to cost cuttings in some areas which aren't that bad either.
    YOU BOTH ARE GOOD JOURNALISTS. PLEASE DON'T TARNISH YOUR IMAGE. STOP SHAMING, TAGGING OR BEING BAISED AND BEING TOO CRITICAL ABOUT ONE BRAND IN PARTICULAR.
    Bring back the harmony! Everyone out there is a car enthusiast, esp, your target audience. If people like Hyundais, it is for their strengths, if people like VW's, it is for their strengths.
    Hope to see these fights and shaming and tagging end. Rivalry is exciting and good. But, tagging people who are mere car enthusiasts like you, it's NOT DONE!

But, all these are of no use if you are not professional and biased towards one brand. May be they have had some bitter experience with VW in the past but professionalism should stay and I really expect icn studio and gagan to get back to the stage where if they speak good, speak good about all the brands and their unique strengths. If they need to critisize, don't just stick to VW and it's cases but also highlight other brands which indeed have issues which goes unhighlighted. Shaming one particular brand all the time and ignoring the failures of other brands is just unprofessional and biased.

      @@siddharthasamuel7259 the fact is they're showing and telling the information which was applicable back when TDIs were available..... At that time there were issues with the gearbox because the TDI produced more than 250 nm torque which caused the problem but with the TSI there are nearly zero problem reported with this combination. They're giving out dated information neither they mentioned VAG giving 7 years warranty on it. VAG made us realised the importance of safety which we were totally unaware especially in the budget in which polo was launched. Tata, Mahindra came into the game later with safety but still as of now they can't match the safety given by VAG. VAG showed Indians how safely built cars are. Ofc no company/car are perfect but when it comes to VAG they're near to perfect in driving dynamics, safety and performance which makes a car A CAR and not a gimmick. And this people are defaming them just for money. I don't understand how can they do so ? @@mrperfect971 agree. Even i have a TDI 1.5, but manual and one of the gem of the engines to own that no other brand in this segment has been able to provide in diesels. Ford's diesel was the closest rival in its time. My second car is a vento 1.0 TSI, some self claimed car expert cum reviewers say it's laggy and underpowered, I along with a lot of owners of this engine find it most fun, rev happy and scalable engine VW ever made after 2.0 TDIs. I had owned Hyundais too, their NA engines are really good refined but their power degrades over a period of time which is what I noticed after 10 years of owning an i10 2010 model, but VW's engine even after 5 years of ownership still feels like new and ready to punch!
      My service and ownership experience has been impeccable and amazing. No complaints till date.

    Pro tips for people having planning to buy dsg cars
    Bumper to bumper use shift manually
    Always put the gear on neutral traffic stops
    Parking on a stiff patch first full press leg brake than handbrake than shift to park
    Never launch control slightly pull the car than pull heavily
    If you kinda launch control

    The earlier DSG DQ200 failures were due to short circuits in the Mechatronics due to using synthetic gear oil. They have since switched to mineral oil and failures have also reduced significantly. Premature clutch failure is mostly due to frequent clutch engagement in start-stop traffic. Like mentioned in the video, switch to Neutral during stops + switch to manual mode (hold onto 1st gear) in creeping traffic. My Vento TDI DSG started showing lethargic gear shifting with only about 35K on the odo (90% city traffic). I got the gearbox oil and Mechatronics fluid changed (genuine VW fluids only) at an independent garage and voila, the shifts have become smooth all over again and D3-D2 jerking is almost gone as well. Don’t believe in the “sealed-for-life” transmission oil BS.

    Simple baat hai, DCT is DCT. Best performance with lower reliability. If someone can’t afford to get it replaced out of warranty by paying 1-1.5L, better buy AMT/CVT/TC or even manual cars. But don’t expect that kind of performance. Performance and the pleasure of driving always comes at a cost.

      Bro vw claimed power figures are on wheels so definitely it makes more than 150bhp on crank whereas hyundai claims power figures based on crank that’s why they always show less power on dyno test but here the reason for dsg failure is more torque than 250nm at initial rpms but in petrol engines they made sure to that torque won’t be more than 250nm and that why they have given initial lag in new dsg so basically I don’t think we have to worry about dsg failures in 2.0 cars

    With the DQ200 the problem was being faced due to TDI generating more than 250 nm of torque...... As of now VW has provided max torque of 250 nm and have made necessary changes in it making it less prone to such failures. Since 3 years there are almost 0 issues faced regarding the DSG+TSI combination. Although I do agree the DSG/DCT/DCA (Tata) all these are not much suitable for high traffic areas (Mumbai, Banglore, Delhi) so if anyone is getting it there either get a manual or get a warranty against it..... Btw at 14:47 when u said bura lag jayega it's true bcoz VW is the pioneer of DSG and DCT is being made from reverse engineering 🙂🙂🙂 Ye sab apko pata hain na ??? If you like to drive enthusiastically hands down to 1.5 DSG but 1.0 TC is also a great option if you are not an enthusiast. Although still 1.0 can be driven hard and you will enjoy it too (not as much as 1.5 OFC) but it will give less efficiency than 1.5 TSI...... The problem which auto companies do not want to admit is that the materials to construct proper DCT doesn't exist yet. You need a steel which has very low thermal expansion coefficient, very high shear modulus, very high shear strength, very high surface hardness. Plus in order to make the predictive shift work well, you need very good ambient sensing (radar+camera+IR) plus very intelligent algorithm optimised for the user as well as traffic condition.

Can the heating issue be controlled if it is driven in a manual mode specially in a bumper to bumper traffic??

    Guys I have used Vento TSI 1.2L with 7 speed DSG. Total running of vehicle is 1.48 Lakh kms. Twice the Mechatronics, clutch and flywheel. First time at 90 K kms which was under warranty. ( saved 2 L due to extended warranty) . Now again at 1.48 L all these failed and I got them changed by paying ₹2.23 L . It’s best engine & gear box but very very costly to maintain post extended warranty. You need to plan a budget to own it. This is the reality.

    What Gagan said regarding the slowness of engagement in the DCTs is exactly what Hyundai and Kia did via the software update. At the same time, actuator ya something was also replaced for the owners whose cars got stucked in ODD/EVEN gears. My honest review, the feels of the early days DCT days got changed due to this update. The updated DCTs felt more like a refined AT. :(

    Great podcast! Loved it! I have two cars with DSG- Polo GT TSI and the Octavia 2.0L Petrol (Dec 2022).
    One thing I would like to point out- when the car is stopped in D, the computer disengages the clutch and it causes no harm to the transmission. However, I put the transmission in N when stopped. But the research that I have done suggests that there is no harm caused to the transmission when in D and stopped say at a traffic light. One can see that the RPM drops to about 700 when the brake is applied and car is stopped. Also the 'Auto hold function' which applies the brakes when the car is stopped works only in the D mode.
    DSG is a fantastic gear box and I think much superior to the DCT of the Koreans.

    I have a question. I bought Kia Sonet Gtx+ with DCT. When I brake, many times I find the speed increases. This typically happens at lower speeds. (My guess is car shifts to lower gear and power increases this results in increase in speed). This increase in speed reduces your confidence. Earlier I was driving i20 Asta manual for almost 15 years. Is this issue faced by other DCT users?

    • @amol52d
      @amol52d 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have the same car. Noticed same thing increase in speed on lower gear like 1 and 2. Even i after releasing throttle. It makes driver little nervous on turns because after releasing throttle instead of decreasing speed it increases. I raised the issue with KIA. The response i got is it has very high torque on 1, 2 and R gear in comparison with other gears thats why it happens. They said it happens with all the DCTs in KIA.

    • @cnsapam
      @cnsapam ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that’s exactly what you should be doing. No need to shift to N.
      When the car is stationary and brake pedal is fully pressed both the clutches are disengaged and there should be no heating issue.
      While driving slowly if you are riding the brake , that’s when the clutch heats up.
      So in stop and go traffic, try to maintain some distance from the front car and in 1st gear let go of the brake completely to move forward and then completely press down the brake when you need to stop, the minimum time u ride the brake in slow speed the cooler your clutches will be.

    • @latvork3044
      @latvork3044 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes that's correct as per hyundai they programmed their ecu to go to neutral if you press the breakpedal. Since breakpedal will act as clutch. But once you starts acceleration you need to fully release breaks.
