Speaking of a lot of extra work for nothing, there was another video on here where the guy started off by removing first the airbag from the steering wheel, then the steering wheel itself. I was dumbfounded, because I've never in my life heard of that needing to be done. I've owned numerous cars both domestic and Japanese and changing the ignition lock housing has always been very simple - and I've never needed to pull an actual steering wheel.
Wow... one thing I cannot stress enough is, DON'T MESS WITH THE AIRBAGS! They can still deploy if you forget to disengage ALL power sources that could accidently trigger it. Or worse yet, you could possibly damage or basis a malfunction of the airbag. JUST PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T MESS WITH ANY AIRBAGS!!!
What symptoms does this entitle? My 2006 trailblazers abs light check engine light all come on and then I lose all power. Even the battery goes dead. I replaced the TPS.. that worked for about 2 days and now it's doing it again. I was told to replace the ignition switch. Would that be the issue?
While driving at speed on the interstate, the vehicle wouldn't maintain cruise, then ultimately died. It then would intermittently crank and start, then immediately die. It did this only a couple times. Then it did not crank at all. I switched batteries between two of my vehicles. It didn't make anything better. After disconnecting and reconnecting the battery a couple times more, it finally gave in and started. I got it home, did a little research and ultimately changed the switch (having seen it was a recurring problem in these models). I haven't had even a seconds problem since. Problem solved (for me).
What issues were you having with your trailblazer that made you replace the switch? I have an 06 and when I turn the key off my stereo stays on even after I open my door causing my battery to drain.

My daughter was driving on the interstate. If it had any codes, I wouldn't know. When we arrived on scene, we were actually looking at the charging system. Tried jumping it... nothing. Swapped batteries between vehicles (of course that clears codes and I didn't have code scanner at that time). Ultimately, I talked to a couple of very experienced mechanics, and looked on youtube. They both said check: starter, starter relay, switch. I tried swapping relays, to no avail. I crossed terminals at relay to jump the starter. The starter turned over. So it wasn't the starter. All that leaves is the ignition switch.
I don’t see how to remove the final steering column small bottom cowling. If it’s just a pry and tug I’m afraid of breaking. Since you didn’t show... :)
In the video, for the VERY BOTTOM cover, you take ot the two screws, then give a firm, but gentle tug. There is a type of plastic fastener holding it to the bottom of the column
I know this comment is too late to be of any help to you, but if anyone else is afraid of breaking something with a firm tug, what I do is go to my local junkyard and try the step in question out on a car like mine. That way if it breaks, I don't have to worry about it. 😅
Hey I have a 06 trailblazer and in March my truck just stop and turn off bought new starter that wasn’t the issue and my battery was good ended up being my fuel pump now yesterday it did the same thing my fuel pump is like 5 months old wouldn’t go out that fast you think it’s my ignition switch too ???
I'm no pro. At your own risk, there are a couple things to check. Starter relay and fuse, and then the switch. Use an ohm meter to check the relay and fuse. If the relay and fuse appear to be good, then you can use a single wire, to cross terminals while you have the relay out. (AT YOUR OWN RISK). It could crank as long as you have the wire inserted. DON'T FORGET TO LOOK FOR DAMAGED/ LOOSE/ CORRODED WIRES throughout the process. There are videos about doing a relay check and crossing the terminals under the relay on youtube. You only need to search. Good luck
Thank you, Joe! Not a car guy, couldn't have done it without you.
THANK YOU, THERE SHOULD BE MORE INFO LIKE THIS ON TH-cam, STRAIGHT TO THE POINT!

Thanks Bro! I appreciate the video. You helped me a ton
Simple well made solution thanks

I have a 05 Chevy he had to drill it out now we can't get the new one in what is the problem do I need to buy something
What was drilled out? If the battery is disconnected, the "safety" pin will release the switch
Did you get the switch installed? Had you disconnected the battery?
