    I think with any newer game a portion of the MTG community will have reservations, valid or not. Especially for people who played MTG from the begining and saw so many games comes and go, some not lasting more than an initial set. Its a scary thought jumping into something not knowing what the future may hold... So its cool to hear this game is doing well and so many new to TCG people have jumped into it. Hearing these stories and understanding there are valid criticisms still to be addressed but overall it seems to be doing well has peaked my interest beyond sitting at the sidelines wondering about the game.

      One of the reasons I think FaB is set to stand the test of time is the timing of which the game has been released and how Magic is a 28 year old game. From my perspective as a person who is as old as Magic (being born in 1993 alongside the game itself) I think it is really cool the game has so much history and has lasted so long, but tbh it can be quite intimidating and overwhelming to try and dive deep into the game, especially from a competitive stance. I often had fun EDH games with friends but often I was just playing for the fun as a vorthos player, finding new cards and mechanics around every turn either from new sets being released now seemingly one for every month of the year or from the countless old sets and just coming across a card that may synergize with my build.
      The appeal of FaB is that it is new and fresh and inviting still because there is far less to catch up on at this stage for new players of the game or of TCGs in general.
      I think that's why we see a lot of new players and younger players Flock to it, because it has that classic card game feel without the massive barrier to entry of the game knowledge. Sure with MTG you can pick up the most recent set and just go with the rotating format of Standard, but that's another appeal of FaB that it is meant to be non-rotating and you can get in on the ground floor of what may be the beginning of a very bright future of a brilliant game.

    As an MtG player of 10+ years, I gotta say I'm absolutely loving playing FaB. It feels like a breath of fresh air and honestly more like what I thought MtG was when I first started playing. As a player, the plethora of decisions you can make each turn with just four cards feels far more challenging than a turn in MtG. As a card collector/investor, I'm really enjoying the art. The foiling (rainbow or cold) on the cards imho blows MtG foiling out of the water.

It was reminiscent of the skullclamp ban, and nice to see in the game. It shows the creators really care about the game they are making.

      And the head of the company itself admitted that it was a mistake to add the card, and that they feel embarrassed for it.

Obviously it has a massive amount of work ahead if it hopes to fill the shoes of MTG, Pokemon, or YuGiOh but if Weiß Schwarz can ride on 14 years of production just doing anime tie-in decks I'm pretty sure FaB is at least is not in danger of dying out.

      It is odd to me. Just look at what causes local LGS(s) to fail: besides the inherent turnover cuz of the nature of the business, LGS(s) have been tied to MTG. Hours era wrecked many of them.
      So having >1 TCG that is stable and a +1 anchor for sales/events is a win-win-win. All the TCGs win cuz there is an LGS to play at and be exposed to their game, and place to hype new sets. Supporting local businesses in general is good when possible, and I think people are just looking for non-bar related events to go to.

      I believe you're downplaying the fact that Weiss Schwarz has a strong foundation in Japan and doesn't need to succeed anywhere else in the world. If it succeeds in English, that's fine, but it doesn't matter to Bushiroad. It's also not just anime tie-ins, they provide the content for the cards and sets, but the game system has a tournament structure and has changed over time. It's restriction list is also more dynamic than many games, but that is due to it being based on representation moreso than a card doing more than intended. Anime tie-in games die all the time, a lot of anime series have had them, but WS actually is a game that exists separate to the anime it uses, and isn't defined by any one anime or several (even if some like Sword Art Online or Fate have a lot of sets), it has the full setup. Bushiroad the designer WS, have had several games go under even, just as a comparison for the success of WS.

    I am an international fan and ever since I saw FaB on this channel I wanted the game to succeed. This is strange since there is no way my local game stores will ever carry this game. There's not much of a market in my country - but hearing how many people were at the event, and their attitude towards the game, just makes me incredibly happy.

    I recently picked up FaB as a way to pick up another game and honestly as someone who has had their hands on practically every different TCG it's without compare. I've played yugioh and magic for years. I have even tried my hands at Pokemon, vanguard Dragonball super and Force of will. It's not overly expensive with exceptions of course, plus blitz is very affordable and fun. The community is unlike any other as they help to teach and welcome you to the game. There is none of the inherent toxicity that I've had to deal with in other card games. If you think this game is a flash in the pan, then I suggest you take a demo game or 2 and then reevaluate. This game is (FaB)ulous

    Hello Professor! I was at vegas and had an amazing time! I will be attenting ALL FOUR callings this year! ❤
    I didnt get an opportunity to say hi and meet you in person, and to be truthful, i hadnt started following you until recently, as my interest in mtg had been fading these past few years. I started following you recently because my interests in flesh and blood attuned me to your content. Ive only been in FaB since April. And i love your how to play 15min video, ive referenced it to many, great work! Thank you! I also spammed a somewhat recent piece you did about FaB for MTG players.
    While i had a brilliant time at the vegas calling, and my complaints are far and few between, It's my hopes that cfb revamps 2 things... the poor overlap timing for the side events that hurt alside event players abilities to actually enjoy the side events without feeling like they had to drop out if each event in order to participate in unique and fun events throughout the weekend, and the balance of prizes and prize ticket costs for items on the prize wall. I feel that both areas had some room for improvement.
    Truly looking forward to the next events, meeting new people, people ive spoken with but never met, and even meeting team mates ive made in the past year or two who ill get to meet for the first time in person ever, playing a game that i both thematically, artistically, and functionally love. I hope to see you at another event soon as well! Good luck on your videos and your endeavors!

    I will likely never play FAB. The main reason is that I simply don't have time for another CCG and I really enjoy MTG. But I also don't understand the backlash in some quarters. There have always been alternate CCGS in the market. If this one hits the right note for you, great! If not, who cares. There are more than enough products competing for your hobby dollars and time.

    it's impossible to tell right now. Let's revisit this conversation in 2-3 years. Great video! Let's see if LSS can resist the urge to create the power creep, reprints, and overprinting that has plagued other games. Early bans are not a strike against the company, rather they are proof that the company is actively monitoring their game and willing to admit their mistakes and change them to make the game better. I personally think that whenever a card gets banned, the company should implement a redemption policy where you send them the banned card and they send you a pack. WotC did this with Dream Halls and it was the right thing to do.

    How does the complexity of FaB stack up against MTG, specifically EDH? I love the near limitless options you have with deck brewing and 1 game never looking like the next. Does FaB offer similar experiences, or is its gameplay more linear/controlled? Broad question, but maybe someone can give me insight.

    • @grvedr
      @grvedr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      FAB isnt so complex mechanically as it is complex in the choices you make depending on the game state. Although with every set they're throwing us more curveballs that seem more complex at first glance.
      Cant speak to EDH but you just described FAB to a T. Near limitless deck brewing, every game is different. although unlike EDH you're able to have multiple copies of the same card, so you absolutely can build towards consistency. Some heroes definitely favor that playstyle as well.
      We're really comparing apples and oranges though. FAB and MTG are wildly different.

    • @ValariaxSword
      @ValariaxSword 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      FaB is more along the lines of playing a control deck in MTG. You have to do a decent amount of planning. Since you use your cards in hand offensively and defensively you have to balance what you’re doing. It’s a very interactive game. I feel like EDH is a lot better if you want to use splashy spells and get synergy and combos going. It’s more of a laid back environment where you can play your pet cards and Timmy stuff.

    I personally don't come from a big MTG background, did I play MTG before this? A little, but nothing like getting together all the time with friends and playing - just went to play a random pre-release for a new set for awhile and then got out of the TCG World until Covid. It's funny how something Major as Covid, forcing me to work from home - got me into watching more TH-cam which I never did and that is where I heard of FaB ( right before CRU set was released). That's when I met some other friends via online box breaks and became a part of their community and before you know it, I'm getting FaB in my Local Store - Running Skirmish / RtNs and weekly armory events for them! I went to the Calling Vegas and it was such a great time Meeting everyone in the "Flesh and Blood" that I had met online/content creators. It was amazing to see all of the people that had shown up to the event all weekend! It honestly felt awesome to walk into the event area and see all sorts of people there to actually play the game! It was also an eye opener for my Casual self, although I enjoyed every minute of it, I found out quickly that I needed more practice to win games! The experience all round was great, the people/staff/etc. I will be headed to Cincy, since It's around the corner from me! I'm excited to see where this game goes long term and honestly the bans that happened recently I think are very healthy for the long term of the game. The Bans effect the game differently vs. say MTG. It's great that FaB has all these different types of Heroes you can play that don't require "THIS CARD or THAT CARD" in every deck (yet). I honestly never played as Chane so I know it effects Chane players more. This game is honestly for me quite difficult in the sense of strategy, I still suck at knowing how I want to defend and when. I love it though, It's for sure a TCG I'll be in for the long run!

    You didn't see any Magic players there? Good. You see Professor, we were there. All of us. Every Magic player. When we heard you would be at the event we all made a pact to go and never let you see us. When that guy held the card aloft and the hall cheered? We were all at the table right behind you drafting Double Secret Master. The newest "Turbo Premium Set" that we also kept hidden from you because we knew you would give it like, a C-. Many Tolarian Professors ask the question: "That sounds like a lot of time and effort. Why would you do that?" To which the answer is simple:
    I don't know. It was Vince's idea.

    Hello Professor, glad to hear you had a good time at the tournament. As to the game, what I don't understand is the distribution system. My LGS was told by there wholesaler that the store can not have First Edition boxes! They can only order Unlimited boxes. This seems a bit unfair to the player base that is not in some inner circle that is deemed worthy to have Frist Edition.

  • @BloodiedShingle
    @BloodiedShingle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I can sort of relate to one of the last anecdotes. Someone who was interested in the game picked up a pair of Blitz decks at my LGS for them and their SO, and when they asked about the game I learned that they were new to TCGs as a whole. Not having MtG to lean on as an analog flummoxed me for almost a minute before I could properly convey what FaB was like.

    Not sure why people are always so hostile towards a new TCG. Magic has been around for damn near 3 decades. Pokemon and Yugioh have been around for similar times. Its not like theyre going anywhere, if you dont like FAB you can always go back. And if you do like FAB its not like you have to quit the other ones. Its not like theres only room for 1 (or 3) major TCGs. With so many new TCGs that have come and gone over the decades, its nice to finally see one thats seeming to stick (fingers crossed)

    Massive events are cool, but I find the choice of two elements for a character to be the best thing yet. Went to a well attended pre-release event and everyone was hey what if I built the character around this element or what if I built them around the other element. If elements become the norm then I'm already excited about whatever the next set will be.

    Flesh and Blood is an incredible game and it is well worth trying. We have recently set up our weekly tournaments in Northern Ireland - a small place in regards to the TCG scene - and over the last three weeks we have gotten 15, 10 and 12 people respectively. The game has a pulse even in this wee part of the world I am living.
    In Athens, Greece, where I am originally from, there are weekly tournaments that host 24+ people consistently and the shop owners have to turn people away solely because of COVID regulations, that's how high the interest is!

The fact that when monarch was going to come out, there were shipping problems due to the canal that got blocked and they air flew in the cards to make sure the players got them faster (was delayed an extra week but that couldn't be helped).

    Holy moly, the negativity is strong in the comments. I rly love FaB as a game and a collectible. And it's cheap and it will get cheaper. I mean there are already unlimited boxes for 65$. The problem is Cards like Arcanite Skullcap will remain expansive, because many players don't want to open the "older" sets. But even than, with the next support set( Sets like crucible) I think arcanite skullcap will be reprinted in non foil and the price will drop. And please, please don't look at the prices of First edition (atleast for the sets before ToA). It looks like ToA first was heavily printed and we have enough of the product to have stable prices. (Sry, for my bad english)
