Pucci is a rare example of a purely villainous character who has a lot of character development while staying evil. Which is something I really like about him. Being an active villain who's growing constantly with well thought out plans.

One of my favorite things about Pucci is that he believes that what he’s trying to accomplish is a good thing. The ends justify the means, and it really shows just how dedicated he is and how far he’s willing to go to achieve it. I like to think that reasoning is also how he got so close to winning in the end

personally i love pucci because of how well whitesnake represents him, he is someone who claims to be holy yet is a complete liar and doesn't even know that himself, sentient stands are created when the user conceals part of their true nature and whitesnake is the most expressive and angry stand in the series, pucci kills, he steals, he lies, he has an extreme ego, feeling that he has to punish jolyne for getting in his way yet says "i did not attain this ability to dispose of you." even though punishment is the role of the christian god. he also claims to not desire power yet he even thinks that cmoon already makes him invincible despite invincibility not being his goal, when dio first met the guy he found an adult book when he is supposed to be a priest, all in all pucci is so interesting because he is such a walking contradiction

I personally think Pucci was deceptively selfless. Sure his goal sounds noble but in the end he was a man that couldn't come to peace with his own trauma and sought to create a world where he can be free from it, imposing his desire on all of humanity. And his care for others is dubious considering how he treats others throughout the story. In the end his goal was ultimately selfish in nature but wore the veil of altruism, not unlike Valentine in part 7.

Yeah I hate pucci and funny valentine and the fact they try to cover up and/or honestly believe their evil goals, actions, motives, methods and etc as being good and or moral in anyway when they are just ranging from pure evil to just straight up wrong and horrifyingly evil.
Which is the point as far as I can tell the fact that they are irredeemable, horrible and selfish cowards who try to run from the consequences of their actions and gain power at the cost of others, they are villains through and through and you are supposed to hate them look at them as people to not be like or at least I do.
You can like them as villains and characters and how they affect the stories but you shouldn’t like or respect them as people.
Sorry for the rant I just don’t like and get offended when people call them any type of good or selfless when they are not like that in any way at all, I just find people who say and or believe that horrible characters like them are good as completely wrong and beyond unbelievably stupid. Ty for your opinion it helps remind me that there are good people in the world who can recognize when someone or something is wrong and evil 🥰

My favorite thing about villains like Pucci, Dr.Doom, and Fire Emblem's Edelgard, came straight from Weather Report. "The worst kind of evil is one that doesn't know it is evil."
These are Villains who are so headstrong in their beliefs that think they they must be the heroic goodguy for stopping the bloodlines/system that caused them so much suffering and that the world they are making will justify any actions that could be seen as evil or bad.

Pucci being a holy man who falls to such a sin on the encouragement of a man turned monster who’s stand’s design invokes a song about Satan being cast out of heaven (Holy Diver) is some of Araki’s best writing.

Jolyne is my favorite Jojo, but I will say that I am perfectly fine with her performance in the final arc of Stone Ocean, for three reasons:
    1. She had a very satisfying fight with Pucci when he had C-Moon
    2. She basically won by playing the long term game which fits thematically with the part.
    3. Jolyne's death is a beautiful wrap around to show how she truly had the spirit of her ancestor, Jonathon Joestar.
Part 6 whether intentional or not, had a great theme of "passing the torch" with DIO and Jotaro passing it on to Pucci and Jolyne to carry out their will between the Heaven Plan even if Pucci is using it for his own means and for Jolyne to fight evil like Jotaro once Pucci defeated them. It feels like a curse when the Brando Legacy is against the Joestars since whenever any part has DIO's influence at the forefront: Part 1 having the George and Jonathon be killed as a result of Dio's actions, Holly slowly dying due to the forceful stand awakening that affected the bloodline, and in Part 6 with what happened to Jotaro and Jolyne, even worse that Jotaro is not there for her because he is fighting the evil DIO left behind.
Part 2 even explored the curse of DIO with Jonathon's son being killed by one of his zombies and a big worry that Speedwagon had for Joseph of falling into the Joestar curse.
Now where I'm going with this is that Jolyne is wrapped up in the Joestar curse due to how she, like Pucci, was put into a conflict that lasted generations, and I think with what Jolyne did with Emporio is a great way to break the cycle since she put someone in that was foreign to the Joestar and Dio conflict. Jolyne is the one who made sure Emporio is the one to finally enforce justice onto Pucci through giving him the Weather Report disc and making sure to save his life even at the cost of her own like how Jonathon made sure that Erina and his family had a future at the end of Part 1.
As a result, Emporio broke the cycle because of what was paved for him by Jolyne and by extension, Weather Report to vanquish the evil that is Pucci. As a result, a new universe is born and the Part 6 cast can live happy lives without the influence of Pucci that brought them together through their bad fates, and Jolyne became Irene, someone who won't be wrapped in the Joestar's continuous battle against evil.
Sorry if I rambled a lot, its just Part 6 is one of my favorite Jojo parts and I really love the dynamic between Jolyne and Pucci along with the ending being my favorite one in the series.

Nah bro, you took my thoughts about part 6 exactly and pur it beautifully. I find it hard to believe that it's on of the more devisive parts of Jojo, and I like that in a way, a Jojo lost instead of prevailing in the end (I know Johnathan dies at the end of P1, but let have this)

    • @Simpsonsfan1011

@@insanenero2922 The anime handled it better than the manga, since in the manga a lot of the stand abilities were confusing such as Dragon's Dream which was the worst manga fight.
As for the anime, well Netflix didn't help with having a botched batch release and awkward animation in the first 12 episodes like with Lang Rangler.
But the ending of Stone Ocean was conveyed beautifully in both manga and animation, even if people misunderstand the ending because of Parts 7-9 being in a completely different universe.

I love Pucci and how he came to be defeated, I do agree with most people's interpretation of the fate of the Joestars Vs. DIO being part of it, but I also like to think of all the previous actions of will taken by the heroes changed fate in their favor, with Jojo villains, it is always about fear and courage, fear of the sun, fear of the Joestars, fear of being discovered, fear of fate, and how it always seems the universe rewards those who can get past these fears.
In this case, Emporio was bestowed the means, the chance and his own knowledge and will to defeat Pucci in the end, truly poetic.

I don’t mind Emporio winning in the end because that moment for me perfectly encapsulates what is to me the theme of part 6 and why Puccis worldview is wrong. Pucci seems to believe we have little control over fate but the ending as well as the actions of characters like jolyne shows that’s incorrect we are the arbiters of fate and we decide our own destiny, ultimately pucci is defeated not necessarily even by emporio but by his own choices that crafted his own fate proving that it isn’t an invisible force that decides our destiny but ourselves and our choices.

    @Zetact_ 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

Stone Ocean is great but it gets really complex, philosophical and metaphysical and in ways that have direct impact on the writing of the part so that more esoteric side of it is probably why people might not like it. It can be rather challenging, at least about as much as a battle shounen manga can reasonably be.
If someone's confused about something in Jojo I'd recommend checking out Hamon Beat's videos, he's a massive Jojo fan and does a lot to clarify questions and misconceptions that many people have about some of the weirder parts of the franchise.
Pucci's placement as a villain is not even so much as "he wants something good for others," personally I interpret his desire to attain "Heaven" is tied to his own inability to accept fate. He couldn't get over the tragedies in his past, and refused to find a manner of closure, and instead he was focused on finding some way to cope with it and that resulted in his seeking "Heaven." He can speak about how he wants it to be for other people and it plays into some of his actions but given it's displayed numerous times that Pucci really doesn't have a sense of altruism and only really cares about himself and DIO that he isn't being genuine with what his core want is.
The use of Emporio is something that massively plays into the thematic elements of fate within Jojo as a whole but especially in Stone Ocean. The concept of psychic links has been a thing in Jojo since at least part 3 (can't remember if the first one established was the distress signal Jonathan's body sent out or if there might have been one mentioned before that) and it's shown that after merging with the Green Baby that Pucci gained a psychic link with the Joestars as represented by him and Weather getting the star birthmark and that Pucci can "sense" the Joestars. Jolyne leaves it to Emporio because he lacks that psychic link - he's someone who is not connected inexorably by fate to the Joestar/Dio conflict.
And to further this, it's when Pucci is decoupled from fate due to Made in Heaven that causes Emporio to be able to manipulate Pucci into placing Weather's Disc into him - literally Pucci's attempt to alter fate is what caused his defeat.

  • @BorbMcGorb
    @BorbMcGorb 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

Pucci being killed by what amounts to the two main cast members he brought a lifetime misery of unto in pursuit of his goals is still the most poetic villain defeat in the series. Kira and Valentine are still probably the greatest in the series overall but it can’t be understated that Pucci is a solid 3rd place behind those two.

I really love how part 6 ended with the death of the joestars. I rarely see stories where they execute a good carthatic ending where the main cast actually gets defeated and yet araki pulled it off so well. Having accompanied the joestar's adventure for 6 parts and ending it here feels like a great conclusion to their epic saga. And to be realistic, the power struggle between made in heaven and jolyne is just too much and letting her win would feel like an ass pull. Letting weather report defeat pucci is a great way to not only end the story on a positive note but also give a conclusion to their brotherly conflict. I also adore the bittersweet ending of the reincarnated cast where they forgot about all the struggle in the previous universe but can finally live in peace. Pucci is one of my favorite villains ever, I think he’s very nuanced, and I think the story does a good job of humanizing him more than previous JoJo villains (who were wonderful, but comically evil) while not trying to make him TOO sympathetic. I think most of the things that happened to him in his past were out of his control, and even though DIO manipulated him down a path of evil, everything from there was definitely in his control.
He coped with his memories and trauma in all the wrong ways, by essentially avoiding actually processing the pain he went through, which led to his entire plan of being able to foresee the future, and to not feel any pain or worry from it. I think it serves as a really interesting parallel to characters like Jolyne, FF and Ermes who actually reflect on their troubled pasts to become better people and seek moral justice. accepting it as a part of themselves, instead of trying to avoid it.

I like Pucci as a villain, his design, not so much(i greatly preffer another villains for that, like Dio himself, or "Fugo", even tho his fully on murderer and traitor plot got removed entirely from the story), but my favorite part is his brilliant improving as his role on his plan got more and more serious and closer to and end, and i think it's shame (but also a strong point of his character) that he as a religious person doesn't trully understand people and what moves them, what motivates us, what makes wanna live.
He thought to himself, "i had a horrible fate, so maybe, knowing about all of it, would have made me feel peace with myself, instead of hunting me, so i will give peace to humanity", when in actuality, is that same uncertainty and random factor of life what makes us THRIVE ❤
Because we can always have something to desire, to wish, to root for, to influence.
Without all of that, life would feel meaningfull and miserable.
My initial thought when i read his plan on the screen was,
"Damn, then what about people that will die young? They will live knowing their life meant nothing in the grand scheme of things, bc they will die young, prematurely, before developing any skill, or exploring their full potential, so they might give up entirely, because… There is no point if there won't be any difference bc of their existence in the end, not even for their close ones."
And as someone who felt like almost doing the unaliving myself at 15, before even being remotely good at art(i started to draw again at 13 y.o.), this kinda thought really makes me feel sad and awakens compassion in me.
My life would not have been the same if i knew what was going to happen, i would have probably gave up on life real soon, before even coming to this age(25), and it would have been horrible for my family and my loved ones.
That's why Pucci's plan is flawled and selfish from the start.
His short-sight view of things and life was his ultimate demise, and that's why it's such a good villain. He improves and does his best thorought the story, but he's not perfect either.

Think a lot of issues with Pucci and how the community sees him is the pace of the Part 6 anime. Wouldn't call it rushed but some points are brought up and then you forget them later. They are not given time to be a slowly engrave in your mind.
Unless you go back and rewatch his conversations with Dio some things that are mentioned in passing might slip by when they become important later in the story. And we all know more people watch the anime rather than read the manga. A second viewing helps a lot.
Also felt the traslations (both dub and subtitles) had some weird choices with certain words. At least for the Spanish sub version I watched. For real even after he completes Made in Heaven I couldn't fully grasp the idea of heaven Pucci had 😂

  • @SorryFace
    @SorryFace 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Pucci is the farthest thing from selfless. His entire point is that he’s a control freak who craves certainty. His stands are all focused on this obsession over control. White Snake can manipulate people down to taking their soul. C-Moon has control over the fundamental force of gravity. Made in Heaven can remake the universe itself to Pucci’s specification. Dio catches on to this immediately when he notes Pucci is reading a book about a man who abandons the priesthood and retires to a quiet life in the country. That’s Pucci’s game plan. His ultimate goal is to enslave the world to certainty so he never has to worry again. His comeuppance comes from the one force he could never control, his brother. Ultimately he is taught the lesson that God/Fate favors those who walk the path of Justice boldly, not those who cower in certainty.

Pucci is definitely my second or third favourite villain in Jojo (it changes depending on if I view part one Dio and part three DIO as different characters or if I think Pucci is a better villain than part one Dio) but he’s definitely my most hated person in all of Jojo. Not because he’s a bad character far from it it’s mainly because of his actions throughout part six. As Weather said the worst type of evil is the type to not know that it is and boy Pucci fits that description perfectly. Like trying to impose on everyone that everyone would be better if they knew they’re own fates yet I don’t think that’s what he wants. Like right before the beat down from Weather Report he begs Emporio for to stop even though his death is clearly imminent from the oxygen poisoning and Weather Report’s fist crushing his skull he can’t accept to die there even though he wants everyone to accept their fates but he can’t accept his own which just makes that beat down all the more satisfying
Also I would argue that Pucci’s defeat was a team effort from Jolyne, Weather and Emporio, I mean here are three people who have all had their lives ruined (sending Jolyne to prison, taking away Weather’s memories and not explaining why he went after him, and killing Emporio’s mum and his friends he made in prison) and all aided to his death like Weather giving his life to get the Stone Ocean group his stand, Jolyne buying time for Emporio to escape sacrificing herself in the process and Emporio inserting the Weather’s stand to finally defeat Pucci all together makes for the most satisfying villain defeats in all of Jojo
Also another reason why I my most hated person in Jojo is because his killed Jolyne my favourite Jojo
So TL;DR Pucci got everything coming to him and that’s why he’s an amazing villain
Also good video Kamen good job in finding how Stone Free and Pucci’s stands are foils to one another

3:48 Think it's worth noting that the time manipulation is an evolution of the gravity manipulation.
It works similarly to "Superman goes back in time by spinning the earth backwards" logic, though it's rooted in Einstein's concept of relativity and instead of spinning the earth backwards to reverse time, it spins the earth forwards to accelerate time. Superman likewise didn't actually spin the Earth backwards, he traveled faster than light in accordance with special relativity so from his perspective, it was going backwards.

A good way to compare Puuci's actions is to that of Madara Uchiha. While not a 1-1 ratio, both men had somewhat tragic lives ordained by fate that sought to force the world into a state of stagnation. In Jojo's while Pucci's goal could be seen as Noble, Fate is a tangible force akin to gravity. It's something Dio in that century came to realize. Knowing ones fate can be nice but when your unable to change it, it becomes stagnant as you have no free will then. Madara took a similar path by forcing the infinite Tsukiyomi onto the world, giving everyone their ideal dream life. Ignoring all the Ototsuki crap, the main difference between Puuci and Madara though comes down to the end result. At least with Puuci and the Heavenly plan, while free will was all but extinguished, the illusion still remained whereas with Madara, it all was an illusion, it was only the illusion
