    Good review, the 14 aperture blades give it nice round bokeh

    Great review, thanks for putting this together. I'm considering this lens for my Olympus... with the tighter crop, I'm hoping that my corners will be a bit sharper (?). Also, I've seen a review that said that it was hard to focus at infinity at wide aperatures. Did you experience this problem at all? Thanks for your work.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comments and yes the corners should be a bit sharper with the smaller sensor. I did not experience any hardship when focusing other than normal manual focusing issues. I used the focus peaking and focus magnify tools on the Sony A6400 and it made it really easy overall for me I would say. I'm pretty sure the Olympus has similar tools? The wider the aperture the narrower the depth of field, so it does naturally get harder to judge, but checking with the magnify zoom is critical to make sure I would say. I never just put the lens on infinity and assumed it was good, but that is just the way I shoot. Perhaps that might be an issue if you shoot that way though...

      @@Jason_Hermann thanks for your response. Yes, Olympus has peaking and magnification and it generally works pretty well. One thing that I didn't get from your video was how much you need to stop down to get decent corner sharpness. Things looked pretty bad at 1.4... do you need to go up to 5.6 to 8, or is this one of those lenses where things really improve by stopping down just to f/2? Thanks again for your work... these are useful reviews.

      @@markharris5176 Hi Mark, sharpness really does not get good in the corners till around f/5.6-f/8 are if you are relatively close to your subject like I was in the lab scene.

    Your pictures you took with this lens are beautiful. I am also very pleased with the quality results I experienced with this lens. Therefore I think you can’t go wrong for the price of this lens if for personal use or just for fun.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes absolutely I would as long and you don't mind manually focusing. Your subjects must be still as well, so not the best for children that refuse to sit still, but otherwise a great option for the money I would say for sure. If you are not familiar with manual focusing that be sure to check out my tutorial on that here: th-cam.com/video/TZBeQDPTBF0/w-d-xo.html

    i have a Minolta 58mm f/1.4 that's really great from the sixties might try to compare this with the 7 Artisans

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I have the 50mm f/1.4 Rokkor-X lens and it's also fantastic, but it doesn't have the rounded aperture diaphragm unfortunately. Wide open it's awesome though, although the distortion is way more than the 7artisans reviewed here.

    Will this be a good lens for sony a7 lll?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This lens is designed for the smaller sensor crop factor cameras like the A6600, A6500, and A6400 for example. So, no not really unless you want to use your full frame cameras in the smaller sensor crop factor mode. Full frame and APS-C are the two sensor sizes. Your camera is full frame... See my E-Mount Lens Guides here for all the available options and please feel free to ask more questions if you have them. www.sonyalphalab.com/guides/e-mount-lens-guides/

    What is your favorite 7artisans lens currently? Have you tried their 60 mm macro lens?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say this lens so far is my favorite 7artisans, although I did really enjoy the 55mm f/1.4 also. I do also have the 60mm Macro lens, but I have not really used it much at all. The build is awesome on that lens though and IQ also looks great. It is hard to focus though and I need more time and practice for sure, before reviewing it.
