    After a few runs in the Mach 4, and after having 2 Rincons and plenty of Cliftons (5,6 and 7), I would say that if your recovery pace is good enough this will easily replace both Rincon (really bad durability) and the Cliftons. I’ll just keep the Carbon’s for the really fast days.

    I am SO excited for this shoe! That doesn't mean I'll get it upon release though because I'm still a poor student, but once my current shoe runs out this will definitely be a competitor for the next pair.

    I'm so pumped for this shoe. I'm an easy mark for Hoka shoes though. Love the Clifton but hate that I can't use it for faster days, forcing me to have a tempo shoe in my rotation. This solves all those problems. Now I can go through an entire training block with just one shoe.

    I have 285 miles in these and though they feel stiffer than the Rincons (I've run in 1 and 2) I haven't had any issues with the recurring injuries I had before I started running in Hokas. Would buy another pair but they did away with this great colourway.

    For me personally this is my Peggy Turbo substitution: 2step cush sensation with a firm push off and benefit of 5mm drop instead of 10mm. Plus I'm personally happy that Hoka tries to diversify their line-up. This is the one to get if you don't enjoy lots of cush, looking for stability (sans posting), versatility and not too much distance to the ground. These got me interested in Hoka feet fell much more nimble and light than in Nikes, Asics or my all-round Sense Ride 3 (Salomon)

    Who knew?! Well, I am new to the Hoka line. Years ago when they started I said, "Nope! Whales on wheels. Those are for fat guys." However, I have decided to take the plunge, but with the flagship Clifton 7 model which will arrive this Friday. I plan on exclaiming, "Thar she blows," when it gets here. Seriously, I'm excited about trying out a Hoka. I currently run in the Skechers Forza 4 hypers. Kudos to you for your support of Skecher running shoes and dispelling myths about the brand. I have a pair of GoRun Razor 3 (Cloak)---read Zebra print I got on clearance coming Wed. Soooo, I will have a diversified collection soon.

    Congrats on 10 years! Off-topic gear questions: What about new vests and out of market brands? I'm very curious about the new Salomon Sense Pro 5 vest...as well as the new North Face vest featured on the runners in TNF's Vectiv ads (TNF Vectic Trail Vest?). Also, there are so many Euro and Asian exclusives (shoes and gear), and it would be fun to have a segment teasing people with what they can't get (easily). Example would be offerings from Kailas, out of China. I have to order Scott shoes from Europe, because they stopped selling here. When shopping, I notice that online stores in Europe seem to have way more diversity of products aimed exclusively at Trail Runners (I understand they have a much wider (percentage) audience). Thanks for everything you do!

    Congrats on 10 years!!! I absolutely love the new review style! Especially the intro and seeing you running out their! The Mach 4 seems to be a really reviewer favorite. possible one of the shoes of the year in 2021! I wonder if I these are coming out how the Clifton edge will change,? In the v2? They both seem very similar expect the foams one being more cushioned and one being more responsive. These seem to be totally a different line compared to the bondi, Clifton and rincon.. etc. It seems like it’s a more traditional shoe feel. For those who aren’t invested in Hoka in the past and don’t want that massive stack hight and stiffness.

  • @oliverp8006
    @oliverp8006 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    "... a softer Clifton but stiffer Rincon" ??? The Clifton is way more squishy than the Rincon so this doesn't make any sense IMHO

  • @IndianaNaturalDog
    @IndianaNaturalDog 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    As an Altra user, I've got the Escalante Racers for my road shoes, which obviously are zero drop and considerably less stack height. I'm not a purist however, and I am willing to add a shoe with some drop that will give the lower posterior chain a bit of relief on the long runs. I think you might have sold me on this one but I'm curious how you might compare sizing between Altra and this particular Hoka? I wear an 11.5 in my Escalante Racers with a good thumb's width between the big to e and edge of the shoe.

  • @chinhuatong7591
    @chinhuatong7591 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    i got it & i love it. Might like the clifton 8 just a bit better for those relaxing runs because I feel it has more cushioning, but when I feel good, like on those sunny days, and I want to get out, the Mach 4 is my new favorite.

    You may have had me at 'durable.' That's probably my biggest issue with my Hoka shoes (I've run in Clifton, Rincon, Arahi and Challenger). And as long as the toe box is accommodating it sounds like it fits the bill for my type of run training. I'm not a fan of the current Clifton (toe box got slightly more narrow in the 7 compared to the 6) but if the Mach 4 can cover me for everything AND fit well AND last, I'm sold!

    Thanks for the review. I found the build quality to be pretty good but sadly the soles are to hard with no give . Its a difficult thing to quantify because my guess is that for runners around 11 Stones or less may find it a good shoe . For me i can only use it for short harsh miles. I love the Mach line and have used Mach 2 through the Mach 4 (yes, I got a pair early). l tried those other models you mentioned but they caused me problems. The Mach 4 give me some cushion while also giving me the quick response. I don't feel they're softer than the Clifton, Rincon or Bondi (those are the models I ended up donating quickly). • @pasadenaphil8804

    My main search factor these days is durability. The Arahis were very durable (450+ miles on 3 pairs) but having overcome my foot stability issues, I returned to neutral shoes and absolutely loved the Rincon 2 . They are surprisingly fast, something I don't usually notice. However, 150 miles in, the outsoles are already getting mashed and the midsoles losing their "squish". I doubt I'll get more than 300-350 miles with most of the good miles already behind. So I just ordered the Mach 4s together with Clifton 7s. I would definitely reconsider the Rincon but only if they make them much more durable.

    I'm looking forward to try it. I think the Mach, even though it's not a stability shoe, is a great for slight pronators. For me, the Clifton or the Rincon are too soft and make my ankle roll too much. The Mach has been a great sweet spot, but the the 2 and 3s were too firm. Hoping that the 4 is a good middle ground.

    Thank you!! I’ve been so curious where this fits in the hoka line up! I’ll wait until either my rincon or Clifton dies before buying

    Ethan if it is WIDER than the RINCON then it is WINNER = game over

      I'd say it's more accomodating, but I also didn't have width issues with the rincon.

      @@TheGingerRunner plenty of people do with newer Hokas - my feet haven't changed but I can't squeeze into the Rincon or 2 - the Bondi is ok the Clifton is kinda tight - I think they've been cribbing (sneakily cutting down) a bit off the width of their shoes for quite a while to keep the weight down - I don't think they are alone but its the most noticeable in Hokas because I used to buy them all .. now I have a lot more Altra in the rotation. - sorry for the rant - I loved the OG Mach

      My feet are narrow and my big toe would hang over the midsole of the Rincon 1... I will take a Clifton + Rincon baby in the Mach 4!

    I feel a bit sad about what you said on previous Hoka Mach, specially the Mach 3.
    In my opinion, it really is a great light shoe, that can be used for easy runs to intervals.

      Ha ha me too! I wanted a shoe that would be for a little more speed. I thought Mach 4 meant it was for faster days lol

    Very interested - especially since my feet are wide and I’ve never run in Hokas. I wonder if Hoka is spreading a wide net for varied consumers by creating so many different brand iterations. You rock. Thanks!

    Looks like the laces are done up rightly tight! Hoka has issues with size 11+ and uppers, where the eyelets are almost touching.

    I thought about the Mach 4 all day yesterday and ordered them first thing this morning. I also bought an Altra Provision 4 because I like zero drop but am too old to go minimalist. I pre ordered the NB RC Elite 2 because gosh darnit, I've been running for a while and I could use a treat. Hopefully these three shoes will last me an eternity, but the truth is I still want a new track shoe. I ran my Golden Spikes into the ground. It's an excellent shoe but any other suggestions?
