    Thank you, thank you, thank you. Took my car into the dealership because my car would stop charging at about 80% and the cord was hot so it seemed like it was overheating. Dealership claimed it was my "aftermarket" charger from Amazon (Juicebox 40 amp). They told me i should only be using the one that came with the vehicle. My husband came across this video and I went in to pick up my car because there was "nothing they could do". Showed the service rep this video and the Hyndai docs that accompany this and sure enough there was a "recall". They installed the updates and sure enough my car charges just fine now.

    Heading to dealer this week. This was never a problem until recently. I will share it with the dealer. I think they will need it.

    Based upon reports from owners who’ve installed this update, it reduces charging current to prevent overheating.
    It’s like bringing your new car in for service because it overheats when driving at 65MPH, and the dealer installing an update limiting max speed to 35MPH.
    Not a fix.

    Extremely timely. I was looking to see if the Ioniq 5 version of the TSB had been released so that I could get it done with my state inspection on my now 1 year old car. And there is your 1 hour old video on the subject. Sweet!
    Update: Got it installed and it works as you described, dropping down in speed rather than stopping.

    Thanks Corbin, very much appreciated info.
    I have a 2023 I5 SE RWD since Nov '22. I started experiencing the intermittent charging stops in February when it was in the 50s and 60s F here in Phoenix, AZ. I am able to charge at work where we now have ClipperCreek Dual Car chargers with 40A (max) output (for single car) or 20A output (with two cars connected). Note: our work set up is 208V, 3-phase which resulted in more than 40A (~41-42A) outputs when I used my Shell branded, portable L2 charger with the I5 set to Reduced since the Max setting tripped the overcurrent switch on the cable controller (~46-47A). And yes, I experienced the charging stops with the portable charger first before they installed the ClipperCreeks in March. With the ClipperCreek chargers I experienced the intermittent stops with the single car charger setting when the I5 is set to Max or even Reduced (I mostly charge using the Reduced setting, gives ~ 7.4 kW on dash). Now, that we are already in the 80s and 90s F I might start off with the Reduced setting in the AM and once the first Stop event occurs I have to go out to the car and change it to Min (~ 4.9 kW). No stop events with this setting yet. It just gets cumbersome managing charging when another car plugs in and the Charger switches to the 20A output (I get ~3.6 kW on Reduced and ~2.4 kW on Min then).
    I think you mentioned that this software "fix" switches automatically to Min in case of Charge Port Over Temp instead of stopping charging as it does right now (it actually stops and restarts, and stops and restarts after a while - that can't be good for the air flabs going up and down all the time, etc.). Besides the auto switch to the Min setting it would be great if this could also be remotely set thru BlueLink or the website under Charge Management besides setting the SoC level there. It will be interesting to see how things will work with this TSB (I have my 1st service appointment later in May and hope they can do the TSB), especially now that we are rapidly approaching our typical summer temps of 110 to 115 F and our work chargers are not covered/shaded.

    Thank you for all TSB that you provide to us. I watch all of your TH-cam videos.
    Can you ask Hyundai to provide a TSB for Wi-Fi hotspot in IONIC5 ?
    In engineering mode, IONIC5 has Wi-Fi and Verizon LTE. It is exactly the same in KIA EV6.
    KIA EV6 has Wi-Fi hotspot while IONIQ5 does not have that. This causes my kids to feel embarrassed to carpool with their schoolmates every other week in IONIQ5.
    Thank you and have a great weekend

    Thank you! I should go and get this update ASAP.I have had this issue for about 7 or more months since I started to charge at home more and more. The only time I can charge at home without worrying to wake up and find the car didn't charge is by limiting the charge current to minimum. This give me around 5.8 kWh which is very slow but at least I can wake up knowing my car has charged.

    I had this TSB installed last week. Prior to that I could only charge my Ioniq 5 at the minimum charging level, which took about nine hours. Now I can charge at the maximum charging level off of our solar panels (level 2 charger at about 9.5 kWH) and it takes about 6 hours to add 60%. Thanks Ioniq Guy for the tip!

    I got my fist OTA update this morning on this. Went pretty smoothly and took maybe 15 minutes. Popped up late last night when I got home but figured I would do it while I was in the car. Worked while driving but no music or screen access. Some features of HDA did not work while driving but adaptive cruise control worked.

    Hello. I listen to most of your videos, which I find very well done. I have a dilemma that I will face by the end of the year. I live in Canada, and here, the waiting list for ioniq5s is very long. I made a deposit January 27th 2022 for an ultimate lucid blue and I still don’t have a delivery date yet. I was told end of 2024 by my dealer end of last year. Surprise! I received a call from the dealer telling me that they are starting to receive Ioniq5s and wanted to know if I still want one,and if I was ready to take a preferred instead. I said no. The dilemma I may face is that I bought a Tesla 3 rwd in February this year. I like it a lot but there are some irritating issues I face with it, compared to my Santa Fe. No sensors, access to wipers speed on the screen, inside space which is smaller. I still see the ioniq5 as being a better car overall than the Tesla 3. Do you agree? For the price of my Tesla 3 rwd, I could get an ultimate. What do you think?

    It will be interesting to see what this does. In my opinion, this is a hardware fault where about 25% of the vehicles manufactured have a defective electrical bridge causing excessive heat. I don’t see how a software update is anything more than a bandaid. This update actually makes me feel LESS comfortable with owning the hyundai.

    • @TheIoniqGuy
      @TheIoniqGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Based on what some EV6 owners are telling me it sounds like as the temperatures at the charging port begin to rise, the car automatically dials back the charging current to around 6kW. This isn't ideal but I guess it's better than waking up to see your car didn't charge at all.

    • @rbdavis808
      @rbdavis808 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheIoniqGuy I agree, definitely better than an unexpected middle-of-the-night charge failure. However, if you pause 40A charging for more than 12 minutes per hour to cool things down, that's the same throughput as just charging at 32A with no pause. 6kW is better than a full pause (0 kW!), of course, but it seems unclear that this will make your car charge any faster than just configuring at 32A depending on how often and for how long the 40A current gets dialed back. (And if the new software is buggy you could burn your house down.) I'm thinking I will let others test this first and wait to see if there's any real benefit over simply keeping my EVSE config at 32A.

    • @rbdavis808
      @rbdavis808 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@at612 Sorry to hear that A T , but it seems to be the result I am reading from most people. You might even be luckier than most as more people seem to be getting knocked back well below 32A. I don't think I'll be getting the update -- I'd rather charge 32A start to finish than start at 40A for X minutes (where X < 30?) and then get slapped back to 24A or worse for the rest of the night.

    This just happened last night. Does it sound like the issue in your video?
    2022 SE AWD. Plugged in car last night at 7p central time. Car said "charging started" and I went about my business. When I awoke this morning the car was still charging and according to my ChargePoint app (hardwired unit 60A/48A for 11.3kWh) the car stopped charging and started charging several times overnight. And this morning I started getting MyHyundai messages saying the car isn't charging. The car only has 2,100 miles and I'm not sure what's going on. This is the first time having charging issues.

    New owner of an ioniq 5. Got it about a week ago. We experienced these stops in charging but it manage to continue charging after a few minutes every time it happened. Then we got a OTA update this week. Is this included in that? When I came home today and wanted to charge the car it gave me hell. It started charging for just a minute and then said it wasn’t connected. Then I gave up and headed inside. Then after about 15 minutes the car realized it was connected and finally started charging for a longer period (30 min in now..). Made me really concerned. No fun if the charging will be a hassle. 😢

I can't charge my car without a fail over 31ish amps. Ive reproduced this on 3 other chargers so i knew it wasnt my wallbox. On the Kia side, the software “fix” actually reduces the charging speed from about 11 KWH to 6 or 7KWH after about an hour of charging to correct the problem. I feel like there is an inverter problem with the car that they are too cheap to fix and have provided this software “fix” to sweep the problem under the rug.

    I just got my brand new 2023 Ioniq 5 Limited today. I plugged it into my Chargepoint Flex Home Level 2 (set at 40 amps) and within 2 seconds it tripped something in the charger and the light changed from blue to red. I tried various resets and changed the charging rate from Maximum to Minimum, but no progress. I talked to Chargepoint tech support for a while and they are trying to figure out what is wrong. But then, I tried to charge the car using the Hyundai supplied 120V charger. I plugged it into my outlet in the garage, which is a 20 amp circuit, had it set at 6 amps, and it immediately tripped the GFI circuit. I reset it a couple of times, an each time, it immediately tripped it. I'm talking to the Hyundai dealer in a few minutes, but have you heard of a case like this, where the car trips any kind of home charger?

      Mine trips the 20 amp GFCI intermittently at 120V 16 amp 1.6kw charge rate (aftermarket L1 charger) but I think that is due to other loads eating up the capacity of the circuit. Mine always trips the 50a circuit breaker with a L2 40 amp grizzl-e charger. All this time I’ve been troubleshooting my 240v home electrical circuit when it’s likely the car, at least at 240v. I’d check your 120v for other loads and that your GFCI hasn’t gone bad/tripping prematurely. I found some of my garage lights were on the same circuit.

    Been having the same issues for the past 8 months...troubles started about 2 months after taking delivery...got the TSB done last week and during the first charge at 48A, the AC temperature inlet reached 107 deg celcius..before that, the charge would stop after the sensor reached 100 degrees... now the charge continues and the temperature gets crazy high...waiting for a response from the dealership...what gives Hyundai...!!!!

      My guess is it does lower the amperage as the heat picks up. Essentially doing what people do as a workaround by lowering their amps on their charger. Only this is handled by the vehicle itself when the heat picks up.

    Had an unexpected issue occur yesterday (out of the blue) when the car stopped charging. I unplugged it and plugged it in again and it said, "Charging Unsuccessful." I turned on the car for a little while (no error codes) and tried it again - same thing, "Charging Unsuccessful." I broke out my Level 1 charging cord and tried it just to make sure it was't my Level 2 charger -- same thing, "Charging Unsuccessful." I see some comments on forums indicating this exact problem, but also indicates that Level 3 still works. I'm going to make an appointment at the dealership and also try a Level 3 charger to see if it's true. More to follow...

  • @bobuk5722

    That sounds like a hardware fault to me as well. If so the hardware needs changing, not a software upgrade which I suspect would just limit the capabilities of the car to charge quickly. I did not know about this and it has just cost the manufacturer a sale. 'Not of merchantable quality' possibly here in the UK.

    Jim Southern Maryland I took my Ioniq 5 to the dealer on 4/54/23 for a 10,000 service and TSB fixes for battery reconditioning and intermittent charging with my 40 watt EVSE. I received a call that my car is now not drivable because of a “high voltage” problem due to the upgrade. I spoke with the head service manager and was told that the battery conditioning was a recall not a TSB. The parts needed to fix the problem are not available and on back order. The parts needed are a ICCU fuse and ICCU fuse box Due to DTC Codes P1A9096 and DC converter input voltage sensor fault and Code 182c00-EVSE Failure.
    If this is a recall for all Ioniq 5’s there will be months before parts are available. How can a company like Hyundai be so negligent to have the problem and make your car sit on the dealer’s lot for who knows how long. Is Hyundai headed for the same problems that VW had with diesel-gate??

    I can’t even charge it 40 A, I have to reduce the charge rate to minimum in the EV settings, in order to charge, which nets me at about 4.6 kW. I will definitely be scheduling service to get this fixed, this has been plaguing me for at least six months.

    I have been dealing with this issue for a year in and out of service replacing the same part 3 times. Got the software update 3 days ago. It charged all night yes, but only because it automatically lowered the amperage once the car overheated. So...not a fix!! Only a bandaid that just pisses me off even more!

  • @henrycobb5243
    @henrycobb5243 ปีที่แล้ว

    The TSB is a patch not a fix. After getting the software "fix" my EV charged at the highest rate for about 45 min then dropped to the lowest rate for about 7 hrs until 100% charge. It never went back to the higher rate if/when cooled. There is a design flaw creating charging port heat. It's not a problem for DC fast charge charging, but if you are at a hotel with L2 charging they will give you grief if you camp out at the charger for too many hours. My option is Hyundai has a critical design flaw that needs a new connection receptacle. The s 5:08 inoftware changes is like arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

    Took a whole damn year for Hyundai to address it? Unacceptable!
    48amp level 2 charging requires the wall charger to be "hardwired" as apposed to plugging it into the 240v outlet. Most people have their chargers setup the second way.

    A Reddit user posted this after he got the TSB done: I spoke way too soon. I'll provide another detailed update with pics. It seems all this TSB does is actually continously lower the charge rate. It does not fix the charging speed issue. I went from a 40 amp charger, charging at around 9.5kw to then dropping to 7.1kw a little over 2 hrs in, to now its less than 5kw. This defeats the purpose of charging over night, or have multiple evs charging within a day reasonably..... sigh.
