Watching Ip Man 1-4 with everything that He's been through and accomplished is just awesome,so overwhelming. He and Bruce Lee are the best and no one haven't beat that till now. Donnie Yen made an amazing portrayal of him that no one else could.
The movies were full of fiction also; *IP MAN* never fought a 🇯🇵 general, never fought a 🇬🇧 boxer, never came to the 🇺🇸 He had 3 sons two from his wife *Cheung Wing-sing* along with two daughters and illegitimate son named *IP SIU-WAH* from his Shanghai mistress while separated from his spouse dying from cancer & he suffered from opium addiction as well.

I personally think this video shows the strength of both body and mind for him to still carry out his routine, at 79 yrs of age and full of cancer. He was truly blessed

As opposed to Japanese or more intense styles Gung fu takes years to fully master due to being developed in feudal times. When it's life or death you can't afford sprains etc so it's softly softly growing in intensity. That's why masters are usually old dudes

Yip had strong tendon strength. He was quick enough to block Bruce punches & kicks. Yip had trained iron palm, iron fist. A life time of fighting experience. And a master of Pressure points from kunfu healing medicines.
Yip Man was exceptionally fast and strong for his stature... It was Bruce Lee's goal to become and even surpass master Yip Man... So this should give you an idea how good Yip Man was in his prime years...
Not only was he old and riddled with cancer, he was reportedly a drug addict.

I still can't believe that the footage around 2:34 is from 1972. This was the year of his death after all and he was still strong enough to demonstrate the Wing Chun techniques incredibly well.
Yip man is very traditional every where he went he always had that coat, to parties, shopping, class, dinner at a restaurant and tournaments.
The ending of Ip man 4 was amazing, perfect way of ending the story. When I found out later that there was real footage of Ip mans final training, it made it 10x better.

2:20 I love this picture of William Cheung and Bruce Lee when they were kids. William Cheung was a childhood friend of Bruce Lee and helped convince Bruce’s dad to allow him to train in Wing Chun. Bruce’s dad was afraid that Bruce (who had a temper) would get scruffed up and not be able to act. Bruce was acting since he was an infant. But he was convinced that if Bruce learned Wing Chun (as William Cheung and Wong Shun Leung already had a successful fighting reputation), he would better protect himself and hopefully ease his temperament.
In “My Life with Wing Chun”, William Cheung shared letter correspondence between him and Bruce Lee when they were in their late teens and early 20s (Bruce in Seattle and William in Australia studying engineering).

Having seen the films, I think he would have been pleased with Donnie Yen’s portrayal of him. I think the actor is a pretty decent chap and that comes through in his performance.
But he would’ve been displeased that the CCP were messing with his legacies, like saying he fled Foshan from the Japanese. No, he fled the ones making a movie about him...
This one little man has helped so many people around the world. His teachings through Sifu Sam Chan, raised by IP Chung and IP Ching, has gotten me out of my wheelchair and the use of both legs and my right arm back. I'm not falling down several times a day. I built my Wooden Dummy for $35 and it is my partner...., Thank you IP Man and Sifu Sam Chan of the USA.
Yip Man was in tune with his biological timing as well as the world's timing. Those whom are gifted with this have such a remarkable impact.

I could be wrong. And please dont hate me for saying this. But I think bruce lee used to focus to much on hard style kungfu. Many people said he was passionate about kungfu,but he was a arrogant man and perfectionist and braggart.. So I think mr Lee may have had the wrong spirit and temperament compared to ip man. Much like myselff. Yet it is also said he was constantly working on his temperment,also much like myself. However,since I never knew him personally I cannot say. But if things that were said were true then he had a different mentality to ip man. (Not as gentle in mentality) and I think that was the difference between mastery and grand mastery. Both in skill and mastery of self. And why ip/yip is more elevated in status to some of us. IP's style was soft yet harder. But Bruce's was possibly hard yet harder still when angered. And everything harder breaks..

First it's Ng mui and she created Wing Chun but Wing Chun was named after a great master Yim Wing Chun. They were both women
@@roninh298 That's the legend but in reality it doesn't hold up to scrutiny. They say that a Buddhist nun Ng Mui at the Southern Shao Lin Temple taught it to her student Yim Wing Chun. However the facts are that there cannot be women at Shao Lin. As Shao Lin has a strict policy of keeping the sexes separate so there could not have been women there.

E Spencer Unfortunately, most Wing Chun practitioners don’t honestly spar for some odd reason. This is one of the reasons why there are very few high level Wing Chun practitioners. The most important activity any martial artist can do is sparring. Otherwise, it’s all theory and no application.

@@younglone9 not true, KF San Soo, is the original and most deadly Kung Fu. The myth portrayed in movies of Yip Man is actually KFSS founders master Jimmy H. Woo uncle. Who was involved in 34 death matches with the Japanese best Judo masters. Killing the last one in 11 seconds, then sat in meditation and was gunned down along with the rest of the shaolin monks in the temple. Yip never faught the Japanese.
Thanks for the video - nice to see some real footage of him, and especially nice to see the real footage of him as referenced in the recent movie. As someone else said in the comments, it would be wonderful to see footage of him in his prime, but I guess that's not possible.
I do wish though that people would pronounce his name properly. It is said so many times in the films that there really is no excuse. It should be pronounced 'Ihp Mahn' not 'Yip Mehn'.
I am glad I am not the only one who gets annoyed when people say Yip Mehn. It is IP Man pronounced Ihp Mahn, like you said. The movie about him does, in fact, make that very clear. 😊

It's amazing to see these pictures, and to see Ip Man with our Grandmaster Moy Yat, anyone wanting to learn authentic Ip Man lineage Kung Fu should look up Moy Yat Kung Fu, i've been training in Wing Chun for 3 years and it's an amazing sytem.
What’s impressive is that in that footage as frail and ill he was with cancer in his final days is still able to move with agility and precision.
