I watched the other channel you mentioned regarding their experience of the new ac. They and many others in their comments mentioned how the system caused condensation issue’s requiring a separate dehumidifier. Be interesting to see your experience in the Northernlite.
While it’s unlikely I’ll ever own a truck camper, I love watching your videos. I’m a bumper pull trailer camper guy but I always seem to learn something! Have fun with your new rig and upgrades! 😁
Hey Rob, yes we love our Houghton too. I agree it’s money well spent. We like it so much it was worth taking off two other campers to put it on our Bigfoot. You made a good choice! It’s nice and quiet and it’s great having a heat pump.
Looking good there guys. Now, to ease that "ceiling anxiety", trim the sheetrock around the a/c circumference and create a 2 inch bump-out. Not having to worry about taking an extra dose of the blood pressure meds when removing the TC in the barn will be quite a relief. Happy Camping, Safe Travels and a very Happy New Year to you both. Cheers.
I just bought the same unit for our 1967 silver streak trailer, Its been raining since I got it and looking forward to putting it on. The difference in the two units you compared was helpful thank you.
Great job guys! We’re wanting to upgrade our Lance 1172 from the Dometic 10.5K to the Houghton 13.5K. The noise reduction is really impressive and that 13.5K will work much better in our Texas heat. Happy New Year!
Glad you made the video. Great install, definite improvement. I’m also a Northern Lite truck camper owner in Georgia. Been following your channel for a while, I think you got a great combination truck & camper now.
Hi Charles, I doubt this AC would work with a ducted ceiling but I’m honestly I’m not sure. If this model doesn’t maybe they make one that does. Sorry I’m not much help on that question. Thanks for watching!
Ohhhh-I’m so excited to see this! I have the exact “older” AC unit on my 2023 Rugged Mountain 11RL. I can’t stand to run it-it’s so loud. Was the hole for ur old AC unit exactly the same needed for the Houghton? Thank you for doing this/I can’t wait! What did u do with ur old unit?
Hi Shelley, thank you for watching. Yes, the hole was the same. We haven’t used the AC a ton but we’re very happy with it and that it’s so much quieter 😁 If you do decide to order one, you can get 5% off by using our link under the video.
We replaced our Dometic Penguin II on our 2021 Oliver with the Truma Aventa eco and can really notice the difference in the noise, another choice is the Dometic fresh jet 3.
Thanks for the great video, I am considering upgrading the AC on my 2022 Northern Lite to the Houghton AC. I am wondering if you have measured the current draw while running the Houghton on batteries & inverter? Just curious how actual measurments of current compares to the Houghton specs. Thanks again.
Always enjoy your guys videos! This was super useful for us as we have a 2021 --9'6" Northern Lite and we hate the AC that is in the camper now (jet engine). I need to do some checking on the Houghton stats as it gets into the 90's and 100's in Washington where we are at. But I think I just found my Christmas present for 2024. My big question is----how much height did you gain on the inside of the camper? The 9'6 is shorter than the 10'2--- and I am tired of rubbing my head against the ceiling. I did like some of the comments below on recessing the AC housing. Did you look at all on going to a 12v AC---for lower decibels? Thanks again for a great video!
Nice video for the installation. Where did you bought this unit ? I think it’s an Australian product. And what was the price the about price. Thank’s to share all your videos. It’s really instructive.
We were lucky and bought the camper locally. The camper is made in Canada. It is a 2023 Northern Lite 10-2 dry bath in case you want to look up the price. Thanks for watching!
Yes, we still love our Houghton 3400A. It does a great job cooling and heating and it's so much quieter. We have some friends that just put one on their Bigfoot 25RQ. Thanks for watching!
So researching your ac unit a little, I have same camper and was wondering did you opt for the thick roof install kit and the soft start feature? only been a month but any issues?
What’s your thoughts on the self leveling sealant? Is it Dicor! I was under the impression most AC units used a rubber gasket. Do you think the sealant will need replacement over time?
Yes you are correct many AC units just use a rubber gasket but the Houghton is different. It has a separate flange that needs to be sealed down before the AC unit can be put on top of it. Thanks for watching!
Are the Houghton and Webasto air cons the same? For instance, the Webasto Cool Top 24 vs the Houghton Belaire 2400. Going by the spec sheet and photos for each, they certainly seem to be the same to me. Can anyone verify this?
Too close for comfort for me. There is no room for error. Might have to let some air out of your truck tires😛 which would not be an option for me as doing that with duels is a real pain. I can see where this situation could possibly bite you in the @@s I like a minimum of at least an inch and a half clearance between my bed and my truck camper.
An 11db drop is a massive success. You’ll be able to sleep at night and have actual conversations indoors.
I watched the other channel you mentioned regarding their experience of the new ac. They and many others in their comments mentioned how the system caused condensation issue’s requiring a separate dehumidifier. Be interesting to see your experience in the Northernlite.
That is the new standard AC unit Host campers in their truck campers. Great video!
Another coat of paint, and you wouldn't have made it !
Great Job 👍
You can also air down the rear tires for some more clearance.
While it’s unlikely I’ll ever own a truck camper, I love watching your videos. I’m a bumper pull trailer camper guy but I always seem to learn something! Have fun with your new rig and upgrades! 😁
Just installed a Houghton to replace the Dometic on the Bigfoot...WHAT a difference in noise reduction! Well spent $1000 bucks.

We may do that sometime, we’ll see. Happy New Year and thanks for watching!
Great job y’all Todd I think she is going to roast you lol
Size matters... ❤
Huge difference and great video
We put a Houghton on our beaver Marquis a couple years back and it was awesome…you’ll love it!
What a great team! Excellent video. 2000 Bigfoot 9.6 camper.
Loved the video. That looked too close to the ceiling for me but the install looked awesome. Thanks for the content.
You all are so likeable I'll watch you fiddle with air conditioners even on a cold wet day like today! 😊
That's super impressive how quiet that unit is! I remember switching to a great pump and it was remarkably better but nothing like that
You should look at one of those Ryobi battery powered caulking guns. Cheap game changers.
I would do a brief ceiling mod for a couple inches of room down the middle. You can do it .

you can also drop your air pressure in your tires to lower your truck.
Happy for you guys!
I put a Houghton AC on my Bigfoot trailer and love it. It is quieter and really cools well. I hope you enjoy yours just as much!
Nice work to you both … Thank you for showing the install. Wishing you a Happy New Year !! From Michigan
Thank you, Happy New Year!
Nice video, looked easier than I thought it would be to change that.
If that ladder is 8 feet tall, how tall is Carla? 😊
Glad you made the video. Great install, definite improvement. I’m also a Northern Lite truck camper owner in Georgia. Been following your channel for a while, I think you got a great combination truck & camper now.
That is tight
We love your videos
Excellent installation! The sound reduction is incredible. Would that AC unit work with a ducted ceiling??

Like your thorough reviews. Glad you used a decimal reader. How high is the ceiling in your garage?
That was a good video if you still won't more space let some air out of the rear tires and when you get ready to go camping air them back up.
Great video.
I like your video, what is the hight under the garage door opening.
Did you use one of Carla’s sweaters to protect the ac unit?
Always enjoy your guys videos!

Between the Lance, BigFoot and Northern Lights, which is your favorite, and would suggest to others based on quality and reliability?
I'm curious also.

@@RunawayRoses sorry I mean the AC unit
They are sold through recpro
Wow such an improvement on decibels.
So cutting a pocket in the garage ceiling wasn’t an option then ?
It may be in the future, we’ll see. Thanks for watching!
Love your camper ! Are you happy with the u shaped dinette ? I like the look of it but I'm not sure which to order. Thanks !
Thank you! Yes we have been very happy with the U-shaped dinette. Thanks for watching!
@@RunawayRoses 👍👍👍👍👍✌🍻🚴♀️
Are you still liking the Houghton? When we get a Bigfoot travel trailer we are thinking of going with the Houghton
Yes, we still love our Houghton 3400A. It does a great job cooling and heating and it's so much quieter. We have some friends that just put one on their Bigfoot 25RQ. Thanks for watching!
Can you use the unit without the remote. or would you be out of luck if the remote was lost or broken?
Be careful when it is time for new tires on the truck. Watch out for the diameter!
So researching your ac unit a little, I have same camper and was wondering did you opt for the thick roof install kit and the soft start feature? only been a month but any issues?
👍👍

Yes we can, they are separate units.

I don't know anything about the Webasto air conditioners. Our AC is a Houghton 3400A. Thanks for watching!
Just curious why you’d post an install of an AC/Heat Pump unit on a Truck Camper you don’t have anymore?
Inquiring Minds wanna know? lol
