This video speaks VOLUMES about this WHOLE INDUSTRY! I am going to continue HOLDING OFF on getting back into RV'ing until the manufacturers invest in quality.
Great job on the gray tank valve replacement! Seeing you guys tackle that wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected. Last year we were on a month long trip in our 1172 from Texas to the west coast and our water pump went out. When Carol ordered one to be shipped ahead to our friend’s house she said those water pumps are cheaper if we ordered two. That kind of told all we needed to know about the reliability. 😜 As soon as we got there we quickly replaced it. We’ve been using the twist on valve as well for the same reasons and it also makes attachment of the sewer hose a little easier. Thanks for sharing your how to video!
You made my day!!! Always wanted to see a fairly new Lance 1172 with the bottom removed. Something truck campers have over any other camper out there. You can easily gain access to the underneath and put it at a height that makes it easier to work on, however you all are restricted because of your ceiling height in your garage. It’s still much easier than a regular camper. Thanks so much for sharing this task!!!!!
Creeper needed at our old age!😅 I had to cut an access panel on my Northern Lite floor to access the fresh & gray tanks for new tank monitors…and it was still not an easy task.
1172 ! Great to see your underbelly. I like how my valves are organized for our Lance 960. Easier to get to. Should we ever need to. Enjoyed the video.
I worked underneath my 2005 Lance 981 to fix some broken frame welds several years ago. The main difference that I notice is that Lance seems to be doing a much better job of using insolating materials in your unit.
Always love your videos. Our Lance was totalled by a tree so we no longer have a TC. I sure miss it! 5he good news is that we just bought a Renegade so we will be camping again soon.
Great video. Was always curious what the camper looks like with the bottom panel removed. I live full time in my 2012 Lance 992 that I purchased new. Like you I had to replace the water pump after about 6 years. 2 years ago the Coleman Mach A/C finally died so replaced with a RecPro Belaire 3400 13.5K heat pump A/C. Wow. So much quieter and more efficient. No issues with the tank valves so far but I also carry a spare Valterra twist on gate valve just in case. I too am very happy with my Lance. For a truck camper that is lived in full time and parked out in the south Florida sun it amazes me how well it has held up. Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks for the video . I’ve been trying to figure out where those valves are. My black valve is stuck wide open just a month ago and my gray tank. I feel been leaking a little bit too cause I popped the cap and gray water wants to come out . I called my Lance dealer. They couldn’t even tell me where these valves were.
Good job! Yeah, I had to work on my black tank valve soon after I got my used camper. It just needed cleaned up, butt I had trouble with getting the seals in right because it was so tight. I had to cut a section of pipe out and put in a coupler in order to get enough room to put it back together. It wasn't very stinky because it was dry and yes I used my bare hands.
My water pump is 25 yrs old and that just go to get the cheapest parts they can find to make profits go up that pump only has to work for one year and then it’s up to you to pay to have it fixed bless you can do it !
Great job you two! A lot of people would be too intimidated to take the bottom off their camper and tackle this job but it looked pretty simple to do. Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you for the hands-on videos! We’ve had our 1172 for 3 years and love it, but learned quickly that you have to be able and willing to do most repairs and maintenance yourself. Question - you bought the 96” cable on the valve you replaced, how much slack did that leave you? How short do you think you could have gotten away with? I would like to avoid loops in the cable as much as possible. Best
I know there is a 72 inch cable available but I don’t know if there’s one in between that and the 96 inch. I feel like the 72 inch cable may have fit, but I don’t know exactly because I didn’t try one. I think looping the cable is pretty standard from what I’ve seen. I think it would at least need to be six or 7 foot long to reach. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for making this video! Did you make a video on how to replace the plastic toilet with a ceramic or porcelain toilet? I need to replace mine on an 1172 and can’t find it. Do you have a link? Thanks!
Sorry I we didn't make a video on replacing the toilet. It's pretty easy but I did have to slightly modify the water line to fit better. I also installed a water shut off valve behind the toilet. Thanks for watching!
Nice access! Most waterpumps you can just buy a new inexpensive head. Why didn't you just adjust the cable or snip 3/8" off the sheathing kinda thing - now you've got a spare :)
I don’t have any specific recommendations but I would say to find what your truck is rated for and find a camper that weighs less than that. Consider that when you add the occupants plus cargo and possibly water you could add an additional 500 to 1000 pounds of weight. Thanks for watching!
No, we were warned by the camp host. He said that if it were the ranger that he would not have warned us and that we could have been fined up to $1,000. Glad we weren't!
Hey guys Magen and I are getting into a truck camper. We ordered frame mount tork lift tie downs. Do yall have any extra turn buckles you want to sell??
Hey Paul, We have a few sets of different types, email us at runawayrosesadventureadventure@gmail.com. We just listed our Lance for sale today so one set may need to go with it but we can discuss offline. Cool that you guys are getting into truck campers, I know you’ve been looking at them for a while now.
You should not have a loop in the cable, it will cause extra slop in the cable .The inner cable when you push will be on the outside of jacket and when you pull will be on inside of jacket and that is the slack in the cable. Should have gone with shorter cable.
Hey Charlie, We got something new to us much like Andy’s and Debbie’s. We we can’t say on here yet but soon. I hope you and Sara are doing well. - Todd
that type of valve is good for that space but overall its a bad design. A big brass ball valve would be better but the space where the valve is is too limited.
Unacceptable! Listen you can't be troubled with all of that! If you just park that thing on the side of the road and I will come pick it up and get rid of it for you!

Great job guys! Really cool to see the basement of the Lance. Looks like they built it all nice and tidy!

The first thing we did when we purchased an Rv was buy an extra water pump. We have yet to use it, but we are glad to know it is there if needed
Nice"How We Do It" video. A whole lot easier than replacing rot in that Northern Lite, which was an epic tour of misery.
Excellent video and informative! Thanks

great video. Very instructive. The camper looks clean under there. (I like that!)
It's a what ever works video! Just like every other learn as you go, sort it out, make it work lesson in life...

Ya'll are brave, I would have bleached out the tank b4 working on it.
Thank you for the VOD.

That’s a great ideal but I like the clear ones so you will know in advance that there is black water in the shut off valve and that way no surprises.
Pretty work!
Always look forward to watching your videos, and congratulations on your article in TCM.

At 22:45 I saw a drip when you said nothing is dripping into the bucket.LOL!
😁 there’s always going to be a little residual.

They are just like people some short and some long.

Nice 🎉
Thanks 🤗
I would add some insulation unless you have a heat duct heating it.
Good job. Thanks.
Thx for showing. 🍻
I believe that is a sediment bowl with a screen .
Is all that wood pressure treated . That’s the good diff if the use it and it lookes like just regular white pine not even yellow pine .

1172 . Do you have recommendations for an old truck camper (Make) for an old (20 year old) pick up?
I don’t have any specific recommendations but I would say to find what your truck is rated for and find a camper that weighs less than that. Consider that when you add the occupants plus cargo and possibly water you could add an additional 500 to 1000 pounds of weight. Thanks for watching!
Olá, tenho um Lance 1172 no Brasil e foi colocado uma válvula pneumática no sistema de acionamento do tanque de água negra.
u would think what the is of a lance it would b better insulated underneath

Great video & great job guys. Just curious; did you actually get fined $1000 or did they give you a warning? Have a beautiful day! Cheers! Illinois

If you just took the loop out it would have worked fine.IMO
I do not like cables I will take the rods over cables any day.
It would have been much more efficient to keep your 10-2 NorthernLite 🤔
But we wouldn't have had this great TH-cam content. 😁
@@RunawayRosesNo worth the trouble in my opinion…good luck!
