  • Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by / Orquesta Filarmónica Robert Schumann dirigida por Frank Beerman.
    I. Andante maestoso (0:00)
    II. Allegro risoluto (15:53)
    III. Andante sostenuto (26:25)
IV. Andante mosso - Allegro (38:56)
It would be unfair to brand Aram Khachaturian (1903-1978) as a one-work composer, and that it is a miniature from his ballet Gayaneh. His works include several instrumental and chamber music, ballets, film music, symphonies and virtuoso concertos which are also quite popular. His Second Symphony of 1943 became gradually Khachaturian’s War Symphony and his “Requiem against all kinds of violence”. Its nickname “The Bell” comes from the tolling leitmotiv that dominates the work.

Surprisingly good, coming from an outfit with a name like that one. At least you have the great Frank Beerman at the helm. Alright, I'm a snob. My default recording is the composer with the Vienna Phil from early (best) London. But I'm keeping this one too, very clean, especially in that jam-packed opening. Khach did like his textures thick.
