Heard this for the first time as my husband fought his cancer. This music made me feel like our journey was something we couldn’t control. The climax of the song was his passing and the quiet part at the end was the dawn and me figuring out how to live life without him. I never knew the artists or the name of the song til now. Thank you for putting music to what we went through.

Voces8 are SUBLIME. Ethereal voices mixed with earthly techniques and dedication. Every single recording of theirs transports me to another dimension. I have sung for over 62 years in all different venues and configurations. This group is truly a polished diamond of perfection.
In the spring of 1970 my high school choir performed this piece while visiting another school. We performed it a cappella. On that day we performed it perfectly. It’s a great memory. Our only mistake: we never recorded it. It exists only in my memory. Whenever I hear this piece I am deeply moved and I am reminded of how meaningful it was, and still is. My best to VOCES8.
And this right here is why this choral group is the BEST. The attention to phrasing, breath, unity, and sensitivity in a piece that is too often overdone, poorly done, or insensitively done. Bravissimo 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Exquisite perfection. This vocal rendition of Barber’s “Adagio For Strings” is simply supernal. I performed and soloed with the Tabernacle Choir for 20 years and my wife has been a violinist with the Orchestra at Temple Square, the companion orchestra to the choir, for 25 years. We know and appreciate great classical music performances. This is the finest vocal offering of this great work we have ever heard. Thank you for your continued outstanding offerings of a capella and ensemble performances. You set a world class standard for tone, pitch, blend, dynamic range and amazing choral beauty. God bless!
I have always thought Barber's "Adagio for Strings" to be perhaps the most gorgeously sad piece of music, and I've heard numerous performances of "Agnus Dei," this being the most beautiful. Thank you so much.

"Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, grant us peace."
We definitely need the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the whole world. So many suffering souls. So many broken, abandoned, abused, ignored. Just think of all the evils that pass as "normal" now. Close your eyes. Look at their faces. You will for all eternity. So pray this song. It is all we can do.
Individually, each singer is undoubtedly an amazing talent. Together, gathered by the genius of the Samuel Barber, they becomes a singular voice that touches the soul. There is hope for this world as long as there are voices that can bring beauty to the darkness.
Just to clarify, voices don't bring beauty to the darkness. Darkness is simply the absence of light. Thankfully, Christ IS the Light of the world, Who cancels darkness and brings hope and life to a world haunted by sin. If not for God, there wouldn't be any beauty in the world.

Fiercely difficult for an octet! The breath control and long line you need is extraordinary. I sang this in a larger ensemble and tried only to breathe at the rests and the bare minimum at other times, and *that* was challenging. Isn't it interesting that Barber took his instrumental work and transformed it for vocal ensemble? This is one of the truly sublime works in all music. Bravo on your performance.!
I would love to sing with this ensemble, if only one time, this specific piece, in the presence of our Lord in the most holy Eucharist. What a beautiful experience that would be!
My father passed on may 16 a few days before my bday, wedding anniversary and mother in-law passing. I say all that to say this is not about death for me but one of the most beautiful songs I could ever imagine. I'm a fan of the Coral version and Orchestral version but this one brings me down off pure beauty alone. To hear us as people come together to make such beautiful sounds is almost a lost art. Please continue to make more!!!
Absolutely stunning. I first heard this over 20 years ago and they sing it beautifully, while reminiscing of my amazing husband’s journey to heaven. He is listening with me.

As I listen to this performance tonight, the sadness is replaced by a deep feeling of peace, and I have no doubt that will continue forward. Voces8, your truly amazing ensemble singing always brings such a sense of fulfilment and satisfaction that it is the music and not the performers that are brought to the fore. You have obviously found a wonderful new soprano to carry on seamlessly in excellence. An understatement: This, ladies and gentlemen, is how it's done! Thank you, Voces8! I've watched your recording here many times, but for some reason today I minimized the video and just ~listened~ to the music and the Spirit as I read from Jesus's words in 3 Nephi 18 of the Book of Mormon. What an incredible experience to feel His love combined in these two mediums. May God continue to bless you as you share His light and goodness through your talents.
There are certainly other excellent interpretations of this moving piece by Barber, but this one by Voces8 is not only particularly beautiful and haunting, it's also very special in terms of texture. Usually, Barber's Agnus Dei is sung by a larger choir, producing a homogeneous sound in which the individuality of the voices is more or less indiscernible, and all the more so because the writing of this adagio is so melismatic and thus naturally encourages the fusion of voices ; but here Voces8 seems to me to have produced an ideal mixture of blending and personal intensity. The voices supplement each other perfectly - and at the same time, you get to hear very intense climaxes by Andrea Haines and Barnaby Smith, or incredibly tender singing by Blake Morgan and Christopher Moore ; and the main climax is powerfully built by the eight singers together. Sweetness - and grieving at the same time - both personal and collective : it's as close to perfection as you can get on earth.
Very well-stated! That clarity and almost floating, transparent sound can only come from a small ensemble, and one in which every member has perfect pitch, intonation, and ear for balance. Not something you come across every day!

I've always loved listening to the original string version. This vocal rendition is simply wonderful. Haunting. Bravi!
El Canto del Corazón de Dios en verdad! Siente uno su Bendición! Maravilloso, Coro, felicitaciones! Gracias por su arte y su proyección. Saludos desde Guatemala
Absolutely exquisite, thank you, end of day and the perfect way to wind down here in Australia. A perfect end to a perfect day. Thank you a thousand times over.
This is one of my alltime favorites. And I get GOOOSEBUMPS at the apex of the song. Bravo.
Cheers for the new soprano

Cordero de Dios, que quitas el pecado del mundo, ten piedad de nosotros.
Privileged to sit in this space and hear you practice and perform. I've been performing and listening for 70 years. You, each of you, and together, are more and better than anything I've ever heard! Thank you!!
