I fell asleep at my computer today and woke up to this....about a minute into the performance...so started it at the beginning.
Every note, every pluck, pause and passage is incredibly thought out and delivered to the eardrum. I'm a fan of all different types of music...but this!.....this is so much more than music. I can't describe it....

It will always be your proustian madeleine and no one will take that away from you ever ...for me it takes me to my last year of high school studying hard evenings and nights to get ready for my final high school exams and for the exams to get admitted in a very competitive university. Always with the turn table on listening to my 20 discs with classical music, always dreaming how great life will be if I pass the exams, if I start university, if I find my soulmate...25 years later, this concert still takes me to that small bedroom to my teenage self, what a nostalgia...
Ps Happy to report that all those dreams and some more came all true :-)

@@phsycopiano Greatest piano composer =/= greatest pianist in all fairness.
That's undisputable vs. "Versus these other guys who were/are capable of things chopin couldn't even physically do."
Alkan, Liszt, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, hell there were tons who were leagues beyond Chopin as a "pianist."
Though, there are none who can compose as much meaningful music for solo piano and piano centered works in such a short of a time as he did!
Not everything is a matter of opinions, I know this is the regressive era and all....
But depending on ideals too much will certainly make you miss the actual truth.
-Someone who probably loves Chopin just as much as you do (if not more I literally have studied everything about him beyond his musical works for decades!) 'but doesn't like misinterpretations created by the delusions we call opinions' to justify what we don't know/can't actually explain.
P.S opinions aren't inherently bad... But when we use them as an excuse for societal involvement and ostracization alike... It's pretty bad. It's like "Hey I want to start an argument about something I don't really have a reasoning for or can't be honest about!" Then next thing you know somebody who knows what they are talking about comes along... "No that's wrong! You will never change my opinion!"

Olga Scheps is my new favorite pianist and I'm sure will be for a long, long time. I love the way she tickles the keyboard and engages the orchestra. She seems to be saying "You come with me and I'll come with you. " So seamless. What rapture.! That 1st movement is just out of this world.!! I am just blown away by this woman's artistry - her virtuosity, yet within the context of the work - the way Chopin meant for it to be - and we're not even out of the first movement, yet. Wow! Soft and with a purpose. Where does Olga pull up the expressions and richness of what she is experiencing and translating it through her fingers to the keyboard. And the conductor and the orchestra are right with her - and she with them. Oh, Ciel!!

I'm an orchestral horn player, and I always marvel at the cumulative experience of the musicians who have spent so much time studying, practicing, and honing their craft independently. They come together to produce something so perfect and beautiful. I also marvel at the wonder of taking something that came out of a composer's head several hundred years ago and transplanting it into a new moment in time, in just the way the composer intended.

A performance beyond beautiful - celestial, really. Greatness surely awaits this Olga; her excellence is already, apparently, achieved.
    Somewhere, Frédéric must be smiling.
Yes, a chamber orchestra is perfect for this concerto & Olga's interpretation. The musicians blend into one whole with her: no "adversarial" alternations between players & soloist, as may occur with large orchestras. Conductor Duczmal handles everything perfectly with her players. She & Olga seem a perfect match, especially in their emotion & technical execution of the slower passages - one is transported...
Olga's personal beauty, also, is most affecting because she seems not to have any ego about it, absorbing her feelings & intentions totally in her playing.
Those who designed all the elements of this video production should be praised, too; it matches the excellent tonal quality & clarity..
Visual meaning & beauty complement any purely musical performance, if such can be achieved. Here, showing the evident emotion in the players' faces, the sense of unity of space in the Tonhalle, color, light, choosing the sequence of images, all on a high level, & not easily done.
Agreed, TH-cam is performing an important service in finding & presenting such superb work, sustaining an art of such purity in a harsh world.
