    I live in north Brazil, and going for a walk in a nearby trail, i met one of these little bastards once, it was in the attack position, threatining me. Literally had to walk on the opposite direction, i would not risk getting bit by one of these, they're extremely dangerous. My mother's old childhood friend, a farmer, died after getting bit by a wandering spider in a barn, he had 57 years old, and died within 2 hours. Edit: he had a heart disease which agravatted with the spider's venom and led to his death that short.

      He's in the Amazon. It's a matter of preference. There is not much protection from the bugs either way. However, wearing shoes you run the risk of them getting trapped inside and biting or stinging you. Also, you have to deal with foot fungus which would grow under the ideal conditions of the sweltering humidity. Your feet would be soaked and on fire after hiking in the Amazon with boots/shoes. Going barefoot makes more sense as long as you constantly watch where you step.

    • @-WhizzBang-

      @@AdamHarrisongpl-projx So you think wearing hiking boots or shoes leads to foot fungus!!1 That shows how little you know. You have OBVIOUSLY never hiked in areas like this. Have you ever heard of foot powders? Have you ever heard of PROPER HYGIENE, like keeping your feet clean? Just the fact that you are saying it makes more sense to walk around in rough or harsh terrain barefoot proves you are either Trolling or fucking stupid!

    • @AdamHarrisongpl-projx
      @AdamHarrisongpl-projx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@-WhizzBang- Whoa take it easy Mr. High Blood Pressure. You sound like the next Stephen Paddock. Watch how he walks in the video. Clearly he is watching his step so obviously he isn't walking as carelessly as someone wearing shoes would be walking. Also, the indigenous peoples of the Amazon walk barefoot and slow like this which completely invalidates your rebuttal. Foot powder in an environment with nearly 100 percent humidity would not be more effective than ash which is exactly what the natives use. They apply it to their feet and DONT wear shoes because it would trap the sweat and render the powder useless. Also, hot and sweaty boots are the perfect environment for fungus. What I said is valid and accurate, and I have hiked in places like this as a graduate student for cultural anthropology. We didn't wear shoes. So, if you think you've got all the answers (plural) to the universe, keep spouting your nonsense here and embarrassing yourself.

    • @sjl197
      @sjl197 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure which you mean but besides some variation, I agree the one used in most of clip and found in field isn’t Phoneutria, it looks to be Ancylometes which are often confused but close relatives. The stock footage they seem to use for the last 30 seconds which seems filmed in a studio is definitely one of the Phoneutria species. The spider also changed from a female into a mature male, I expect by the magic of television

    I realy like how people say "its no worse then a bee sting".. Its same as saing: Getting needle at doctors office is bout same as getting stabed with 2 large rusty nails, lol
    Seriously, have You ever seen someone bitten by large tarantula (lets say like A.geniculata), just physical damage (size of fangs is impressive) can be far worse then anything honeybee can do with venom. Also, lots of people are allergic to bees, causing another problem for this comparision (its extreamly rare to be allergic to spider venom). And afcourse, even in new world, theres spieces who can give Ya hell of a bite (like psalmopoeus), let alone old world spieces. It is also very bad idea to but wild hairkicking tarantula near Your face, these hairs can do far more damage then its venom... And theres always fun change getting bacterial infection from wild spider bite (hell, i got bacterial infection from opiliones bite, most people refuse to belive these can even bite human (yes they can, atleast some spieces)...).
    Lets say someone from Australia watch this, honeybee is much same there but have You met AU T-s? Belive me, bee sting seems very nice compared to bite from any of Au tarantulas :P
    Telling people tarantulas are harmless is not good. Tarantulas are harmless if You know theme and what this specific spieces can do (venom strenght, speed, hairkicking, attidude etc).
    Otherwise, many tarantulas can cause ireversible damage (hairs can do very bad damage to eyes. Some tarantula venoms are very painfully and cause long lasting muscle spasms etc).
    And afcorse, theres spiders people may mistake as "tarantula" but may end up messing with something more dangerous.
    I can also rant bit bout different spieces in family apidae... If You compare it to bee venom, most people think honeybee.. But apidae contains around 6000 known spieces (some with far more potent venom then Your common bee)...
    Sorry for rant, but seriously, spider bite and bee/wasp/hornet sting cant be compared. These work way to diffrent and theres many many spieces of tarantulas, bees, wasps etc. With venom ranking between harmless to potentialy lethal. Also tarantulas use fangs for eating, digging etc giving a fair change of bacterial infection that can be worse then painfully venom.

      @Elm Kid Most bites people get are just warning bites ( bites that have a very small dose of venom pumped in ). Death by these spiders is EXTREMELY rare even when the person bitten doesn't go to the hospital. This venom is only meant to take down prey from something as small as a cricket to something as big as a lizard. You're only really in danger if you're allergic to the venom, are sick/old, or if you get a large dose somewhere near the heart.
