In Australia there is one species of spider that strikes fear into the hearts of many, and that spider is none other than the Funnel Web! Intimidating in appearance with their up to half inch long fangs, these arachnids possess a dangerous neurotoxin that is particularly deadly to humans. Without proper antivenin after a bite the Sydney Funnel Webs venom has been known to kill humans within hours. Yikes!
However after the start of an ambitious statewide antivenin program at the Australian Reptile Park no one has actually died from a Funnel Web Spider bite in over six years.

It was in the guiness book of world records back in 2007 because it's the most venomous spider on earth as in its venom is the most dangerous. The reason the Male Sydney funnel webb spider is considered the most deadly is because it unlike most species of spider has the ability to repeatably inject you with its venom over a very very very short amount on time it's also extremely aggressive.

That was a female. Larger than the male as is typical amongst spiders but the male is more venomous and aggressive in this case.

There's a great channel on here called "Dave's Little Beasties" where he goes into great detail on all sorts of massive spiders like this one.
He mentioned that it's the male of the funnel webs that actually are the most deadly for two reasons.
1. The females do not roam about and stay in one place; the males are always searching for a female and often stumble upon residential areas in their search, so are much more likely to contact humans
2. The male's venom is far more dangerous to humans than the female's
Did you determine whether it was a male or a female? If I had to guess I would say male, because it was out in the wild roaming about.
Hello, spider/tarantula owner and expert here lol. This specific spider is a female and this is how you can tell:
1. Male spiders are skinnier and not as thick as females. This is a pretty healthy/thick looking spider.
2. This spider's abdomen is rounder, if it was a male, its rump would be longer than it would be rounder
3. The leg shape seems to be thicker which would make it a female. Males have skinny and long legs.

@@blazingx4479 the FW venom is particularly deadly to primates and humans but not other mammals. Toxicity is measured by ld50 scale on mice. The wandering side has a higher ld50 score.
Only about 1% of Brazilian wandering spider bites cause a severe reaction, compared to about 20% in Sydney funnel webs and over 50% in northern tree dwelling, southern tree dwelling and Darling Downs funnel webs
The wandering may have a more potent venom, but heres the thing, it takes 15 minutes for a sfw to kill you, and it takes bws 1 hour to kill you, and not only that, the sfw are near humans more than the bws, e.g, in garage's, house's, sometimes they can even burrow in your shoes, so yeah the sfw is hands down alot more dangerous than a bws...

7:17 Actually Coyote and the other people in the comment section, even though it applies to other really venomous spiders like the Black Window for example, more rarely than not, its possible for them to unsuspectingly hide in footwear like slippers and socks when travelling into houses, even the likes of handwear like various gloves, and among other clothing depending on the circumstances. This is why it should be highly recommended to put them into boxes for example so they won't have to hide inside them.

I believe they may be in a tie because the two venoms are not the same type. Sydney Funnel Web is more aggressive, but the lungs are under-developed. The Brazillian Wandering Spider doesn't get fatigued so easily. I could be incorrect, but I believe the Sydney Funnel Web is worse. It really depends on how the person's body reacts to the venom.

I'm no expert but I don't think any of the funnel web species can climb that well. Not sure what it would have been to look similar to that and be able to hang on a roof. I could be wrong though.

Coyote, just for your own knowledge, while huntsman spiders have venom, it is pretty pissweak. Sure, it won't be fun to get tagged by one, but the worst that will happen is some localised pain, nausea, and a headache. You may also get an infection, but that would be more from poor wound maintainence than the bite itself. They are also very timid and docile spiders.
Huntsmans are also pretty easy to relocate if you find one inside. Place one hand flat open in front of the huntsman, and lightly touch it's back legs. It will proceed to climb onto your hand. But the speed at which they can move is quite startling, so you need to mentally prepare yourself to remain super steady in case they decide your shoulder is a safer place to be. Lol, because if you're not ready, and they run, you'll be doing your best ever Mr. Miyagi impression.
And the reason Sydney Funnel Web Spiders venom is so dangerous, is not just the amount of venom that they use, it is because (from memory) it's a neurotoxin. Your body literally forgets how to do incredibly important functions...like living.
You can generally pick huntsman spiders up without them biting. They very rarely bite, they are very docile.
I never had any of those symptoms just localized pain from a huntsman and I'd rather not relocate them its good to keep huntsmans in the house they will take care of your other insects
@B1gUp5 You'll probably find that all the above comments are written from experience by Australians who grew up with huntsman spiders being an almost every day thing. They are a very common house spider in Australia.
Across The Across uses the term "pissweak" which is a common colloquialism in Australia. keen L speaks of the Huntsman as a "house spider," I expect he is an aussie also.
When I was growing up I had a friend who would pick huntsmen spiders up whenever he would see one. I only saw him get bitten one time and he just threw the spider away and only had a small mark, no serious symptoms at all. He would let the things walk all over him and as a joke he would like to put it on other people and watch them freak out. Oh the memories. :)
My Dad had a pet huntsman in his shed for over thirteen years. It was massive towards the end of that time, roughly the size of a dinner plate. It was openly friendly so long as you always moved incredibly slow around it and never made sudden movement and unnecessary noise, it was always super timid and showed it. I myself handled it regularly and my father more, it would sometimes hang out on his shoulder. Never bit me, and only ever bit my Dad once on account of while it was on his arm a bird crashed into the side of the shed and knocked itself out, made a hell of a noise and startled the spider. It bit because it was freaked out, and my Dad didn't even get angry even though he got the flu from it, and regularly handled it again with no fear or disdain. He did always say that our kind were the more ugly scary and horrible monsters, and he called it beaut (or beauty, beautiful, Betty and similar)
I believe them to be one of the most friendly and intelligent creatures on the planet even though they possess incredible speed and fangs, they are far from evil and should be respected.
