1000% always spread damage with a slicer at the table, because it also means if anybody who isn't the slicer player starts to pop off, you also have an easier time using slicer to get rid of them. Slicer solves problem players. That's the deck.
Fun fact on how to play against Slicer: whoever controls a creature with Trample may assign the trample damage however they desire, meaning you are allowed to simply assign all the damage to a single creature that is blocking it rather than deal the excess to the defending player. However, thanks to Slicer's Doublestrike, if the defending creature(s) dies to the First Strike damage, the normal damage must still be dealt to the defending player.
I can answer that slicer question. People take more attacks from slicer per rotation in a 3 pod than a 4 pod. There is no Slicer decklist submitted btw
I have been waiting to see how you guys deal with slicer. Well worth the wait. You all had about the same reaction I did when first dealing with this insane card. It didn't help he got it on the front turn 1. Also didn't help that Dylan didn't read his cards lol. Good game none the less. Can't wait for the next video.
Shirt brothers!!! This game was so good, so funny! The smash cut to dylan and his list of incredibly reasonable events over his last few weeks was amazing He's so busy and works so hard, no wonder he missed that removal spell, he was in Hong Kong like a day before this video Thanks for the video guys!
"It's like a pulled pork sandwich you don't want but are forced to eat." I must just love barbeque that much don't think I have ever been given a pulled pork sandwich I didn't want.
I play slicer a whole lot, you want everyone alive as long as possible so that he gets to attack more, and you want the person who went first or the person directly after you to die first cause they are ahead the most when it comes to slicer damage. Slicer is my baby
OooOoOoo boyyy....I just built three of these decks, and played with a few of them. Super stoked for this episode! Slicer notes: Focus on the Slicer player because otherwise they will take everyone out. If not, they'll have enough stax pieces out and it'll be more difficult to take them out. BUT, obviously keep an eye out for others because it creates the perfect situation for someone to cook something up quietly behind the curtains...
You need to keep everyone else other than the slicer player alive for as long as possible because you will just sometimes accidentally die to an additional equipment and having 3 decks with removal is better than 2
Slicer is one of the decks where if you don’t know how it works it can run away with something, but as soon as someone at the table does it can’t do much. The entire game plan is commander damage with slicer. If he doesn’t stick, the deck literally can’t play the game. Keeping a cheap removal spell in the opening hand means the game is over for the slicer player.
Yeah, if you see a Slicer the correct play is just to mull to make sure you have a removal spell. Slicer falls apart if 2 players have removal in their opening hands.
??? We just replay slicer and you lost pace doing removal. Guaranteed you aren't mulling a good hand just so you can start with removal. Most players just bank on winning before slicer kills them
At risk of dating myself you guys need to have a radio show/podcast where you talk about shit happening in the world. I swear I love listening to you two banter and ramble on. It's beautiful lol. So entertaining.
Oh, wait! I recognize the Gemstone Caverns coin! I gave that to you in Minneapolis! Glad to see it getting some usage, haha. Another game where it ends and I think "Do I want to make a Slicer deck?"
Personal nightmare for slicer is Winota, yuriko, minsc boo and Tevesh(pw in general goaded slicer never connects and kills off other things from attacking ) and worse of all, another slicer.
@@luizgmarin yep, hence why slicer doesn't have a great time against them. He'll never attack them barring on your turns. Other people are less willing to attack them because they need blockers so they don't die to slicer themselves. Worst feeling getting your car totaled by a hamster, and they draw 4+3x cards for life insurance on Boo.
I personally play slicer and the main goal/OBJ in the deck is to deal much damage as possible to everyone without killing one person at a time, the more opponents you have slicer gets to attack. i personally recommend spreading the damage to one target player or just around the table so everyone can survive. but the best way to deal with slicer is by simple removal. hes really broke and often win with him turn 3-4. thank you for showing light to one of my favorite commanders
I wondered why Joseph was the only person with a portrait in the thumbnail. Then I watched the video. After, all I can see is Joseph's smile in the thumbnail.
I've found that the best way to deal with Slicer is hold your hand out and firmly say "Slicer no slicing! Slicer no slicing! Slicer no slicing!" Not saying it's been very successful, but what else can you do?
There’s a Slicer deck in my meta currently. MF hits the board every turn 1 and unless you have turbo naus deck in the pod, it’s better to spread the damage or you’ll be helping the Slicer player to win the game.
I love slicer so much! Joe's "this deck is silly" is something I've said. And it's usually the table spreading the damage as best as possible till someone slaps a Paradise Mantle on it then everyone loves Slicer but the Slicer player.
I remember when slicer was first released, I played in a pod where someone had the deck built and he was gushing about the deck. I then showed him I was playing Yuriko and the light in his eyes died just a bit haha
Everytime I have played against Slicer, we always negotiate on spreading the damage out. Everytime we take the alternate option, it always goes so wrong
Against a slicer player I always keep a bounce, free counter spell or something that takes him out. I learned against this deck early on to make him the arch enemy.
Wheeling the otherworldly light slayed me, loudest facepalm of my life 🤣but I mean Dylan did just come back from a round trip, no sleep flight from Tokyo so I can understand. Fun game all!3
It's probably best to spread splicer damage as best as possible, but I don't think it matters much since his back side is only 3 mana and has haste, and transforms when it deals combat damage, so if they get the front side out early, they can probably just recast on the back side just as easily
Playing against a Slicer in my pod like twice a week, spread damage around and keep everyone alive until someone can remove it until it's too expensive to play.
I've been trying to build a Slicer, Hired Muscle deck and don;t quite have all the cards from these cedh lists, but I was curious how you guys felt about flashfires and boiling seas in the list, too slow for cEDH?
excuse me if I'm misunderstanding slicer, but couldn't somebody just choose to convert slicer instead of passing him around, thus stopping it from going off?
I think if Dylan was probably the best deck to deal with the Slicer. Or really any deck with Jeska honestly. If you get down to a 1v1 against it, the Goad doesn't apply anymore, and you can just triple damage blow them out with their own commander if they're silly enough to give it to you
I heard of a tournament where a player conceded before attack step. only 2 players left. Slicer player had already boosted to lethal 1 shot with jitte. Now, slicer was forced to attack its owner because of a toxic concession.
worth noting that the sword of sinew and steel would have triggered of hitting dylan, allowing cam to blow up slicer and giving him one more turn, dont think it would have mattered but still Edit: nvm im dumb
That would'nt have happened since the Sword is still controlled by its owner (Joseph), who is the one getting that trigger. If the equipment says that the equipped creature gains "[insert triggered ability]", then it works as you said.
So one of the constituents of my gaming emporium (my discord server) has absolutely ludicrous deck-building chops, and of course has a nasty Slicer build. The way to deal with slicer is absolutely to get some protection and spread the damage out so you can all work together to deal with slicer The only exception is if another player is going to win the game before the slicer player. In this case, swing slicer at them as much as possible and then remove slicer. Typically past the first turn or two, if that, blockers aren’t gonna help against a strong slicer build. It’s assault suit on a body in the command zone with situational evasion. Dank dank rectangle.
Amazing! I don't know how many times I've made a similar mistake--needing a card as an out and totally overlooking an option in my hand. Have you considered making a best enchantress deck in cEDH video?
The number one solution to Slicer in the current CEDH meta is player removal, specifically removing the Slicer player first. Everyone else should spread out the damage, and chump Slicer whenever possible. Slicer is always fast out of the gate between rituals and fast mana, so they should always be target number 1. I don't think I've ever played against a Slicer deck that didn't get their commander out on turn 1 or 2. Chump and spam targeted removal at Slicer until the Slicer player is dead, or until Slicer costs 21 mana to cast.
I've been waiting for something else to the sleeves i want to order from you guys and these deckboxes are so perfect! But you only ship in the US... so that's a bummer, hopefully soon it will be available in the Netherlands too 🇳🇱 😅
As a guy who thoroughly loves his Slicer - yeah the play is absolutely to keep everyone alive and dogpile the Slicer player into the dirt. That said, it doesn't normally play out that way from my experience. That robot boi is an absolute UNIT. Also vandalblast is the absolute bane of our decks. Like legit you'll send us to the stone ages
You should try to kill a single player, because Slicer benefits from as many combat phases as possible. For example, if the Slicer player draws cards for each attack because of an equipment, now they’re drawing less cards. And that’s a reason why shadowspear’s lifeline is beneficial on slicer, because it keeps other players alive regardless of overall dmg
This was perhaps the most comical episode to date! 🤣 Absolutely died when Dylan came on said "Drew two?! I already had one you stupid f@ck!"
I just got to that part and had to pause to laugh! 😂
Eyes still watering on that one 😂
Bring back Gay to Win shirts so I can be a Shirt Brother.
Yeah i burst laughing too
Dylan coming up with every excuse only to call himself a stupid fk later is such an edh vibe. Amazing game, loved the energy and interactions
Slicer is an actual menace to society and I love it. My friend has the deck and it easily competes with our cedh pod

I found keeping everyone alive is important with Slicer, since when you kill 1 guy it becomes a guaranteed punch fest and nothing else
I agree!
Yea I feel the same, more players alive is more combats for slicer to attack and more damage he does.
