      @GenerationGapGaming, Just a quick question. When Jason appears inside the cabin, didn't that every freak you out? For some reason which I cannot explain, every single time when I played this as a kid, I jumped whenever Jason appeared in the damn cabin. Whether it's the sound or the way he jumps on screen made me startled even if I was ready for it!! Ugh, such bad memories.

      @@lucyloo2228you can get the torch without lighting any fireplaces, you just need to find the note that says to go into the woods and then go into the woods with a key and find the hidden cabin with the other torch note, its a certain woods and specific cabin though which I'm not gonna say so i dont ruin the fun. You can also get the torch by lighting four fireplaces (not saying which four, youll need to figure that out), reading the torch note and then getting it from the big cabin by the lake, both torch strats require going to the cabin by the lake for the torch.

Every October I go through several games including this one, symphony of the night, and usually one of the resident evil games, as well as watch horror movies all month long. As a kid in the late 80s, this was my favorite NES game, bar none, up until I discovered the Mega Man series. It was my first step into open-world gaming, before I even played Zelda or Metroid. I played this more than Castlevania or even the Double Dragon series, I thought it had a strategic depth most action platformers simply didn't have. So much to do, and such an enormous map for its time and platform, Friday the 13th really did a great job not only keeping up with the frightful atmosphere, but in also making you feel powerful when the time came that your counselors were well-equipped enough to turn the tide and start hunting the hunter.

    I used to avoid fighting him in the cabins on day 3 and gave up for awhile. I used to actually run to other counselors to save them(before i knew you could simply press start a switch to whoever is being attacked) I couldn't land a hit because of his nonstop speed and taking damage everytime he moved in to attack. Then i figured out to properly dodge both strikes everytime. The trick is the timing. Dodging has a delay when you use it. When he comes at you, you wanna dodge sooner than you normally would on his first strike. Dodging sooner for the first strike gives you a chance to reset and immediately dodge his second attack. This really works if you choose to fight inside. Helped me finally defeat him.

    This is one of my all time favorite NES games and I'm happy to see I'm not the only one on TH-cam trying to defend it's bad reputation. I think most of it's detractors have been people that just didn't understand the game or just played it for fifteen minutes before declaring it 'dumb' and giving up. Big thanks on sharing the forest trick to get the torch. I've been playing this game for nearly 3 decades now and never knew you could get it that way. This was one of those “only new game for a long time” kind of games for me, if you’re an 80’s kid you know the deal. Whether it was good or bad, you had to master it because until the next birthday or Christmas, this was all you had! I was able to eventually beat it back then, but it wasn’t until the past ten or so years where I learned about how fast you could really clear this one. I clear it about every day lately, got it down to around 20 minutes.

    The game wasn't horrible, but the pathfinding was nightmarish in the cave and forest. If you never fouund out the path you listed in this video for the hidden cave, it's likely you'd never find it, or you'd get lost in the forest or cave with no way to reach the kids when the alarm is going off. For what it was, though, the game could be fun, and it was satisfying to take Jason down that third time.

    Nobody I played this game with when I was a kid ever cared about Jason wearing purple overalls. It's not until we got older and played the game again did we start to question it. Now it's the one thing to point out every time someone makes a video.

    The Cabin music is my phones ring tone. - such an aggravating game. Didn't appreciate it until I was an adult. also, if I remember correctly, later on there was a lawsuit about game rentals and to get around it they could not provide the real game manuals. I remember renting from blockbuster and they either didn't have it or had a cheesy blockbuster created manual. You should do a LIVE stream of this one :)

    great points on part 3 inspiration but i personally think it was based off of part 6...only because part 6 is the only movie in the franchise with kids at the camp and counselors that are actually protecting them. like jason walking into the lake cabin and that little girl sees him watching her 😱

    • @baronterror
      @baronterror 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a pic in the manual that is clearly Part V (Roy), the opening screen is obviously Part IV, the Jason on the cover of the box is Part VII. I'd say the Jason in the game is almost certainly Part 3. Not only is his mask not damaged (Part 3 is the only time he is without axe mark) but now with that poster (which I had seen before but not really known it's origin) I think it is extremely likely to be Part 3.

    I was a weird kid and always picked and played games that none of my friends liked. I'd stick with them too and get frustrated when my friends would move on to another game that was easier to beat or easier to play. I never did learn any of the mechanics you showed in this video, but I tried my best to figure out how to beat Jason when I was a kid. Thanks for making this video, brought back a lot of memories and I finally learned how to defeat Jason! I also agree with your comments about LJN and this game in general. Definitely overlooked and LJN has made some fairly decent games and just gets the "hey let's all jump on the hate train" wrap. Subbed and liked and will definitely come back for more! :)

    I loved this game as a kid. So many strategic ways to beat the game. Once I figured out how to beat it, I used to challenge myself by beating the game using only the rock weapon. One of the mechanics not explained in the manual is that once Jason is low enough on health OR you're the only counselor left, the fight turns into a death fight. This means that it only ends when either you die or Jason is defeated. Considering the rock takes 7 hits to take out just one health away from Jason, it definitely becomes an endurance fight. Also, doing so in one of the cabins is the only way to properly survive.

    I still have my cartridge, I liked the game then and I still like it today. The soundtracks are so repetitive but nothing than you get bored to listen to. In my opinion Crissy is better than Mark, yes they have the same speed running and jump as high but she can throw weapons further and faster than Mark, Mark can row faster though. Laura is fast but her jumping sucks. Paul is just good for the boat so I always kept him close to the children's cabins. And yes Debbie and George are the worse.

  • @The_Humble_Hurricane
    @The_Humble_Hurricane 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I always just figured they made him those colors to display Jason in the "night light" since that's typically when he is seen most throughout his movie history. And the reason he stayed that way in the day time is because it was Nintendo and it was generic but got the point across lol. None the less, great research, theories and video in general. Awesome.

  • @honorablejay
    @honorablejay 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here are a few strats I used to really lay on some damage to Jason (which I came up with when I was a kid playing the game a ton).
    When the Jason alarm tells you he's attacking the children, fight him inside to save the kids. Upon exiting, go right to the exit (which is the 3'oclock position on the map). Once you're back on the main path, immediately go left for the small cabin. Before you get there, Jason will attack you on the road. After he runs away, continue left and enter the small cabin. You'll find him inside and fight him again. Just don't leave the cabin before fighting Jason, otherwise he'll disappear.
    If the Jason alarm tells you he's attacking a counselor, you can enter the closest small cabin and switch to the counselor he's attacking. By exiting before fighting him, Jason will attack you on the road. With the right weapons his health will go down really fast.
    I also memorized how many of each weapon it would take to knock out 1 pellet of Jason's health: stones - 5, knife - 4, machete - 3, axe - 2, torch/pitchfork - 1. While fighting in the cabins, you only get to attack Jason 7 times before he'll run away. Make sure you have the right weapon before engaging.
    Deathmatch - There are a few scenarios that will cause Jason to fight until one of you dies. Get his health down to 7 pellets or less during a fight, or having less than 3 counselors. Once one of those conditions are met, any fight that you are currently in or are about to be in will not end regardless if it's on the road or in a cabin. Carefully paying attention to Jason's health will help you avoid a deathmatch you cannot win, as will keeping the counselors alive.

    I finished this back in the day when I was a kid, I was so relived that I did it. Mark is my go to guy here since he's the fastest and jumps the highest. George does more damage with the rock, but is the slowest, Paul and Laura are the average to decent.
