I've said it before on another video, but it's refreshing that this was a movie that made me think "Damn. I hope they make another one" after I finished watching it, especially with how sequel-crazy Hollywood is nowadays, even for movies that don't need them (not naming names, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about). A movie based on the Great War would go SO HARD, and of course, there is still an abundant well of characters they could adapt (the Dinobots; the combiner teams; some other non-G1 alumni; hell, maybe even Unicron (I know he was just in RotB, but c'mon, lemme dream)).
personally i think bayformers looked great, liked the very alien look while still paying homage to their classic version. bumblebee was a better balance of classic and modern designs, one leans a little too far on the classic side to me. in my absolute honest opinion, i think the cybertron games have the best designs in all of transformers.
Initially, i wasn't too fond of many well-established characters being energon miners. like Megatron, I get since it's been established many incarnations he started as a labourer and then became a gladiator to a tyrant. but Orion? idk I always liked him when he was a data archivist. I thought it was SUPER WEIRD THAT ELITE-1 was an Energon miner. i mean elite-1 the combat tactic fighter who got the name because of her status, is now a miner in this movie? however, after watching through and even again, I realize that's the whole point. they were never meant to be miners. they were like that due to the corruption of Iacon which was the motivation of Megatron and I thought I was smart.
I went twice, once with my Dad and once with my friends, all of them really liked it. Especially my father, a G1 purist, he loved it. Even my friends who aren't Transformers fans really enjoyed it. I personally loved it, the best Transformers movie. I'm gonna say it. While the 2007 movie will still fill me with nostalgia and the 1986 is a hood classic, Transformers One is the best one.

Something that they could have done with B-127 is give him a keen eye in his environment, so that he has a little bit more to do, and build the foundation to him, becoming an Autobot scout. E.g. That ledge he and Orion hid under from the Quintesson lasers, it should have been B that noticed it, and the one who noticed Alpha Trion's blinking Spark should have also been B.
Transformers One being better than Joker Folie a Doodoo is the best reality I could've hoped for. Also fun fact: The victor of the Iacon 5000 was actually supposed to be Mirage, but for some reason was changed to Chromia last minute. Idk why, but it happened lol
Besides all that was said, funny enough I had my own minor issue with the characterization. It was of Shockwave, in what little screen time he had. He kinda felt like an angry meathead rather than cold and calculating. Again though, it’s my own complaint.
Funny you mention Shockwave being a little different, he's being portrayed in a more psychotic light in the Sky bound stuff too. Maybe its a mandate from Hasbro to change things up with certain characters?
Yknow I suddenly remembered someone had an insanely brilliant idea for the sequel names Transformers One Transformers One Shall Fall Transformers One Shall Rise
I think looking from Transformers lore and the eventually fall of Cybertron, it could be like: Transformers One Transformers One Shall Stand Transformers One Shall Fall
I was a little unsure when the trailer dropped. But due to the praise I'm seeing on social media, this UK resident has decided to see it tomorrow. Glad to have you back Jobby, hope you get settled in ok, and thanks for the quick review. Edit: Saw it, and I loved it, despite Bee's bad jokes, and Elita being a little more overbearing than I was expecting. Really solid film. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope to Primus that we get a sequel.
I'm genuinely kinda sad that Paramount goofed up the marketing cuz it's seriously AMAZING. If you haven't seen it yet, Jobby kinda said it all so GO WATCH IT!
There were many bots who passively accepted the slavery (the bots born before the slave generation). It wasn't explicitly stated, but to me Megatron realized that it wasn't only Sentinel. Entire generations didn't question why the next generations didn't have cogs and were just happy to enjoy life at the expense of the miners. That's why he went "tear it all down", in my head at least.
Can I already picture the bumblebee losing his voice scene in the sequel. Bee is trying to remind megatron of who he once was while megs is holding him by his throat. Megs pulls bee closer in and says "you talk too much" and rips his voice box out. Cinema baby, cinema
one thing i really enjoyed about the designs was the differences between d-16 and megatron, especially with the helmet. d-16 has the dark grey helmet, whereas once he get his t-cog, it switches to a light grey. this is really cool to me, because the original design for megatron in g1 had a dark grey helmet, then when the cartoon actually aired, it was switched to light grey. its the small details like that which really make this movie, and i LOVE it
Brian Tyree Henry was so good, I wouldn't be angry at all if he continued to voice the character for years to come. (helps that he just sounds like Greek Era Kratos lol)
If they would have just toned down the marvel humor of the first half to make it more natural this movie would be fucking perfect because Jesus Christ that pivot moment after the discovery of megatronus is astounding.
Solid 7/10. The biggest issue for me is that not a lot about it was very original. Pretty much every major story beat has been done (usually better) in a different continuity, like IDW or TF Prime. That said, as a jumping on point for new fans, it’s perfect, and despite some flaws, serves to streamline that backstory and make it easily digestible for newcomers.
time constraints to avoid a 2,5 hour runtime; director said they actually made a gladiator scene. Megatron's arc would be better told as a series, but the film at least gives a number of explanations why he was pissed off at Optimus.
@@glory2cybertronWhat I appreciate is how they made Megatron sympathetic, but not at all justified. This version of the story has Optimus and Megatron come from the exact same background, rather than two separate walks of life like most other versions. This means that the only reason the two take such drastically different paths is due entirely to ideology. Optimus learns the truth, and seeks a peaceful revolution by exposing Sentinel’s corruption and rallying the rest of Cybertron against him. Megatron, ever the nihilist, only wants to murder Sentinel. In addition, after beating Starscream to a pulp and gaining the loyalty of the High Guard, he develops a taste for power and seeks to crush any opposition he faces in his path to dominate all of Cybertron.
The ending really fell flat for me. It didn't feel like Optimus vs. Megatron by the end, it felt like Orion and D-16 role playing as Optimus vs. Megatron. They stuck with the friendship dynamic for so long and reversed it in the span of 15 minutes that it didn't feel genuine. The sense of stakes were weird too. It doesn't focus on anyone caring about Sentinel's betrayal aside from the main cast, so it just feels like a personal grudge match instead of a societal revolution. Better than most of the other Transformers movies, but definitely not the greatest.
I'll be honest, I also found B to be a bit much, but after years of suffering through what I have dubbed "puppy-dog Bumblebee," I'm just happy that he's allowed to have a voice again. It almost feels like the writers taking revenge for making the character silent for so long.
You know it's a good movie if someone who isn't into the franchise watches it, and at the end of it says "I liked it a lot!", my wife, who proceeded to do a better job at dissecting D-16's downfall and Orion's growth better than a lot of the fans.
I saw it last night. Such a good movie. I as well was doing the Leonardo pointing meme at the characters and the refrences. The story was also really engaging and kept me entertained throughout the entire film. I just need an excuse to go see it again, because this movie deserves the support.
i love the idea of a sequal being both the autobots and decepticons fighting the quintessons optimus using the common enemy to try and leverage some sort of humanity out of megatron, trying, hoping to find some sort of spark (im sorry) of the person he was only for his villany to really be set in stone for optimus and the veiwers when he tears the voicebox from bumblebee personally methinks that would go hard
2:23 im very glad someone else noticed this little detail. You can tell D was always angry at the system but didn’t quite realize it yet. Sort of a walter white effect if you know what I mean. On that note, the animation does a perfect job at showing and not telling, especially with the way his eyes work in the movie(might wanna pay attention to that on your next…five thousand rewatches.)
Just saw it. Loved it. (Still annoyed it took so long to come out in the UK after being out in the USA for weeks, which won't help the box office either). Except for Bumblebee, who just continues to be the most annoying and over-pushed character in the franchise. In this one he just felt like they desperately wanted him to be a Kevin Hart style "the funny sidekick" and it fell flat for me completely every time other than one (admittedly actually funny) line. Praise be for a Transformers movie where you can actually tell who the hell they were instantly, without needing to try and figure out which random pile of dark grey metal scraps belonged to who. Double praise-be for a Transformers movie actually about the robots and not humans.
I agree with you on the voice cast except for one, I personally didn't like keegan micheal key as bumblebee. Now I dont mean he did a bad job, I just don't feel his voices matches with the character of bumblebee. bumblebee is meant to be the younger brother of the autobots/the rookie and frankly Keegan's voice sounds way to deep/mature for that (i think people like bumber robinson or dylan O'brian had voices that better fit the bright young rookie). Like seriously, imagine if instead of doing a comedic role Key had voiced someone like soundwave, how cool would that sound. additionally, 4:38 I agree & I know people mock/hate on all the bayformers stuff but we have to admit, bumblebee's radio speak has definitely been one of the most unique/endearing quirks given to the character (it doesn't need to be a permanent addition, but it is a fun little thing)
I saw the trailer, saw the corny 'baby stuff' and noped out, tbh. Didn't help they're changing the past lore AGAIN. From what I remember Megatron went to 'store his wares' at Orion's energon storage facility and killed everyone inside. THEN, they changed it and he's a tank at a gladitorial arena. NOW him and Orion are buddies enjoying hijinks together while on some youthful adventure. It just didn't look like something I would want to see. But if you're recommending it, Jobby....maybe I'll give it a chance.

I thought Bumblebee was pretty good, badasstron jokes didn't make me laugh, but they didn't annoy me. I especially like the reference to A-Aron with A-Atron from one of Keegan Micheal Key's skits

Believe it or not, there are people who didn't like TF One, and those people are usually one of 2 categories: - The die hard Bayformers fans who unironically believe Bayformer style movies are the best of the best due to the seemingly mature and gritty look - The ones who simply hate anything with association with the MCU, as TF One was made by people who previously worked on the MCU, and people assumed the movie was going to be like a post Phase 3, childish overcomedic garbage fest MCU style movie
Don't let her opinion deter you. If you're a fan of anything transformers related you'll be a fan of TF One. Unless you're like the people granmastersword mentioned you're going to be entertained by this movie.
It was a shit movie, bad choreography, bland music, voice actors phoning it in, Quintessons sucked, and the designs were too basic. Big L from this long time fan
He literally says "Badassatron" 4 times if I remember correctly... which i did laugh at the final time he said it because i really wasnt expecting it in the moment
The movie is awesome, but the final conflict between Optimus and Megatron feels a bit undercooked. I do not understand, why Orion refuses the idea to eliminate Sentinel, when few minutes ago he murdered a bunch of bots anyway.
the refusal to kill Sentinel wasn't because he wasn't ok with killing, but rather because he wanted the reformation of Cybertronian society to start on a better foot note. Orion wanted the new Cybertron to change for the better, and for that he wanted Sentinel to be judged and punished fairly and accordingly through due process. To have him be killed right away, without such process, would give the people the wrong idea that it's ok to kill the people they don't like to solve problems, which can bring negative repercussions in the long run. Plus it would also make them no better than Sentinel, to be so willing to kill him in cold blood on a whim
What I got from the exchange was Orion was worried what D-16 was becoming as the film went on, he was watching his best friend fall into anger and revenge and didn't want him to become corrupt like Sentinel Prime. To me that's the tragedy this movie was going for as we all know what happens after this. Could argue that its a bit hypocritical of Orion to think that after he takes out some of Sentinel's stooges himself but I would at least argue that was in self defence where Megatron killed out of revenge when he had already won and Sentinel was defenceless.
@@rueceless7580 What could they possibly do with Sentinel besides kill him? He likely would have loyalists due the caste system only oppressing the cogless members of their society. They would potentially rally behind him and try break him out of jail as how dare these cogless scum take over our society! Sentinel had to go as he was too dangerous to keep alive. Given the body count they caused getting there, it was a foolish hill to die on for Optimus. I don't really feel that makes him worthy of beign a Prime or leader, infact I'd argue he deserves to die at the hands of Megatron for being stupid enough throw his life away over someone who was a blight of their society. Given the Quintessons were still a massive potential threat the last thnig either of them had any right to do is start infighting like morons. Anyone that short sighted doesn't deserve lead ants to a picnic. The movie just hand waves the Quintessons, despite they were a big enough threat that all 13 primes couldn't get rid of them. The ending is rushed and the falling out should been saved for later. Simply this being the first step to the liberation process rather than trying to put everything into g1 great war status by the film's ending. Especially restricting the movie to a 90 min run time as kid films often do.
This was the first Transformers film I ever watched, and I understand everything. I finally found out how the autobots and the decepticons got started.
Of course, we can't talk about Transformers One without dragging the Bayverse through the mud... gotta love this fanbase. I loved Transformers One, but as a casual Bayformers fan... can we please just not? For 5 minutes? 5:08 Sorry, how does Optimus in the Bayverse "revel" in his body count? I swear people make up things that didn't happen in the movie.
Every Bayverse movie after the first one dragged the Bayverse through the mud lmao. You're free to like them, I don't really care, but they're objectively bad movies.
Man i love megatron's arc in this movie. Because like yeah as you said, he's barely keeping it together at the start of the movie. His entire identity is built on the rickety foundations of the system. The world HAS to be fair, the people above him in the hierarchy HAVE to be treating him in good faith, and following the rules HAS to reward him one day. but then he of course learns that was all bogus and every struggle in his entire life was entirely unnecessary. Which is why he falls apart completely. He has no way of thriving within the system, so the only thing left in his life is pure, unadulterated, strength. If he can't earn what he's owed by following the rules, then he has to earn it by might. The reason Optimus handles the revelation so much better is that he was already a rebel. Unlike Megatron, he never really believed that the best life available to him would be gained by obedience. He was already trying to break free from it in the little ways he could. So when he learned of the corruption at society's core, it only really served to further solidify his existing desires. it didn't change who he is, it just gave him a new goal. Unlike megatron who built his entire life and understanding of himself within the system. so when the system collapsed, he collapsed.
I actually didnt mind the badassitron jokes. I thought it was unfunny the first time but i think it got funnier each time he said it. I hope they give him more tragedy in the sequel

3:19 absolute legend, shoutout to tf hype guy
I feel the designs are finally perfect. Like the progress from g1, to bumblebee this TFOne is crazy
YOOOOO
personally i think bayformers looked great, liked the very alien look while still paying homage to their classic version. bumblebee was a better balance of classic and modern designs, one leans a little too far on the classic side to me. in my absolute honest opinion, i think the cybertron games have the best designs in all of transformers.
@@dg7347eh, even then those are a bit too much, the bumblebee movie had better g1 and modern designs of the cybertronian modes imo
@@dg7347 if they were just more sealed up and complete looking then yeah they would be peak
Read the comics. Far from perfect 👎
Bumblebee being mute was a Steven Spielberg and Hasbro's idea not Michael's. Originaly all the transformers where mute and Michael changed that.
Hasbro wanted all the Transformers in the movie to be mute? Wtf?
@@Jman92854 Didn't want to pay the voice actors.
All the Bayformers being mute was the original idea? What? Not wanting to pay for actors aside, how the scrap was that gonna work?
Not true, Hasbro were the ones who vetoed Spielberg's idea to make the TFs mute.

One thing I loved about the movie is that they make you feel like d-16s rage was justified while at the same time making you feel like he went too far

I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope to Primus that we get a sequel.
as a uk resident who saw it today, ITS AMAZING
I'm genuinely kinda sad that Paramount goofed up the marketing cuz it's seriously AMAZING. If you haven't seen it yet, Jobby kinda said it all so GO WATCH IT!
Jobby lied, this film sucked! I wanted it to end the whole time.
Come on, Jobby, give us a review for Prime and Animated!
Those shows deserve to be remembered!
That's how caste systems work. If you aren't bottom rung, you have a far less of an issue with being in it.
Can I already picture the bumblebee losing his voice scene in the sequel. Bee is trying to remind megatron of who he once was while megs is holding him by his throat. Megs pulls bee closer in and says "you talk too much" and rips his voice box out. Cinema baby, cinema
4:49 Ultraman mentioned RAHHHH 🗣🔥

Me and my buddy were doing this the *entire time*
Especially when Orion "Did the thing" (We know what that is)
Me too
one thing i really enjoyed about the designs was the differences between d-16 and megatron, especially with the helmet. d-16 has the dark grey helmet, whereas once he get his t-cog, it switches to a light grey. this is really cool to me, because the original design for megatron in g1 had a dark grey helmet, then when the cartoon actually aired, it was switched to light grey. its the small details like that which really make this movie, and i LOVE it
2:52 BRAH!!!! 😂😂😂
D’s massive shift in tone when he labels himself as megatron was really well done
This movie, in my opinion, has one of the best depictions of Optimus Prime. In that, the one we've been missing for YEARS.
dude, i loved the "suddenly running" gag, it only happens twice but it´s so perfect
Brian Tyree Henry was so good, I wouldn't be angry at all if he continued to voice the character for years to come.
(helps that he just sounds like Greek Era Kratos lol)
The film was PEAK. Absolutely loved it
Chris Hemsworth KILLED it as Optimus Prime! And Brian Tyree Henry did amazing.
2:14 So, Jobbythehong kept his "but" pet.
Making Steve Buscemi, a man with a naturally high voice, Starscream, and then making his voice higher so it matches G1 Starscream is peak, I fear.
Thanks for not spoiling anything and thanks for the review

"WE SHOULD LISTEN TO THIS SQUISHY!"

Just seen it. I’m genuinely frightened at the idea this may not get a sequel. One of the all-time tragedies if not
I also watched 2 times, bringing family and friends, I'M DOING MY PART 🗿
Orion Pax using his transformation sequence to kill a Grunt was a chef's kiss. That is definitely one of my favorites.
4:32 if this is true in the sequel it would be the greatest implementation of Bee loosing his voice
What sequel ?
The fact that one guy on twitter was doing better marketing for this movie than all of Paramount’s marketing team combined will never be funny to me.
It was rushed, How many writers did this movie have?
I'll be honest, I also found B to be a bit much, but after years of suffering through what I have dubbed "puppy-dog Bumblebee," I'm just happy that he's allowed to have a voice again. It almost feels like the writers taking revenge for making the character silent for so long.
My only issue is how they did my boy Shockwave dirty. They made bro the comic relief character :/
You know it's a good movie if someone who isn't into the franchise watches it, and at the end of it says "I liked it a lot!", my wife, who proceeded to do a better job at dissecting D-16's downfall and Orion's growth better than a lot of the fans.
2:09 Even till these day,he still want Megatron to said it.
We all still hold out hope for David to say the funny line one day.
I saw it last night. Such a good movie. I as well was doing the Leonardo pointing meme at the characters and the refrences. The story was also really engaging and kept me entertained throughout the entire film. I just need an excuse to go see it again, because this movie deserves the support.
Hey jobby glad to see you saw the movie, hope your doing great
i love the idea of a sequal being both the autobots and decepticons fighting the quintessons
optimus using the common enemy to try and leverage some sort of humanity out of megatron, trying, hoping to find some sort of spark (im sorry) of the person he was
only for his villany to really be set in stone for optimus and the veiwers when he tears the voicebox from bumblebee
personally methinks that would go hard
Seriously, after so many years of waiting for just Transformers on cybertron movie they did not disappoint one bit. 👏
Speak for yourself, read the comics. 👎
Don't it's like a pixar movie but lamer.

Believe it or not, there are people who didn't like TF One, and those people are usually one of 2 categories:
- The die hard Bayformers fans who unironically believe Bayformer style movies are the best of the best due to the seemingly mature and gritty look
- The ones who simply hate anything with association with the MCU, as TF One was made by people who previously worked on the MCU, and people assumed the movie was going to be like a post Phase 3, childish overcomedic garbage fest MCU style movie
Don't let her opinion deter you. If you're a fan of anything transformers related you'll be a fan of TF One. Unless you're like the people granmastersword mentioned you're going to be entertained by this movie.
@@granmastersword the mcu? 🤣 its making more sense why the movie never appealed to me

@@Yuh_zhimmy well how would you feel if I dragged the ‘86 movie through the mud while praising this film, hmm?
in the uk b-127 says 'i have sword hands!' instead of 'i have knife hands!' for obvious reasons
Couldn't put it better, that's the best description of his whole arc and strive for justice
I actually didnt mind the badassitron jokes. I thought it was unfunny the first time but i think it got funnier each time he said it. I hope they give him more tragedy in the sequel
