We earn 60 k a year and still able to save 35 k a year here (my mortgage is 1,300 a month)…. I wonder what the average person makes in a city as expensive as SF.
I’m so thankful income is not taxed where I live… and we still get free education & healthcare… suddenly I’m grateful for what I have.

Yeah but it’s all relative, minimum wage in California it’s like $20 an hour, I think you make like 22 at McDonald’s. So you could go to the East Coast but you would be making like eight dollars an hour, and it would all even out with the cost of living.

In order to stay on the same budget inspite prices increase, without renouncing to quality and the variety of foods we eat, I totaly reorganized and changed my way of doing things. I figured out that bigger chunks of meat are cheaper, so is the whole chicken (5$=3 meat dishes for 4 people and broth from skin, bones and 2 wings and with a handful of meat scrap from the broth, I can wrap up an appetizer aswell), also uneviserated fish is at least 30% cheaper, sometimes even more... I cook from scratch, don't waste money on stuff you can easily make at home at a fraction of a cost, like hummus or mayo and a bunch of other seasonings or deserts... When it's convenient, sometimes I buy in bulk, always keep an eye on items on sale, so for example last week I bought 6 months of Fairy dishwasher gel at a 40% discount and since my pantry is quite small, I don't tend to stock up much, just on items we use more frequently or that are more expensive (that way I save more money on a discount). So far it's been working rather well, the only thing is I had to invest in a good knife sharpener, but that has already payed of and overall, basic items for cooking from scratch used to be very cheap, so their price went up only in cents and I still find them very affordable, on the other hand processed food prices, the more they're processed, the more they go up.
