In India we also have free meal in Government and government sponsored schools, like mine was government sponsored from the kindergarten (70-80% primary school are under government scheme) tho in different schools. We had routine, it was eggs once in a week, chicken and fish once in a month, soyabean once in a week, different vegetable curry depends on the season and the daal was mandatory. And occasionally we used to get full course meal I mean from dal and fries to sweet chutney (Bengali chutney is different) and sweets .

5:12 it's like that in India too. Nayanja is right that most people in India prefer packed lunches because it's homecooked and healthy but private schools have will have cafeterias for students whose parents are unable to cook every day. Public schools have it too (especially in rural areas) because it's free meal support for poor children to encourage them to come to school.

Im a Malaysian. But went to school in the US. So the school was a public high school in Madison, Wisconsin there were couple of options at school cafeteria. We could choose Pizza Hut beef pepperoni, cheese, veggie, etc (every day), Egg salad or Tuna Salad (they're Subway but they call them salad; these depends on what day) or Soups (depends on what day we got brokkoli soup or pumpkin, tomato n crackers), Tatter tots, french fries.
Depends on which county and school districts or states I guess.
Hearing sophia explained, I assume mine was under a wealthier school district in that sense.

You don't really eat yogurt when you're sick in India. Since the yogurt's cold. We normally have a mix of the dal and chaval called kichdi. It is when the dal and rice are cooked together. 😅

I grew up in one of the largest counties, by square mile, but smallest by population, in the Appalachian USA. My public high school actually had a surprisingly nice lunch routine.
4 grade levels. 4 lunch lines. 1 lunch time. The entire school was open for eating and hanging out with friends, excluding a couple areas.
We had a “hot food” line, something like pasta or soup/, salisbury steak, baked chicken and potatoes OR a salad bar/line
There was a “sandwich line” in the trades wing, which would serve subs, hot dogs, hamburgers, wraps. Basically anything, that can be served between bread, and easy to grab and go.
Then a pizza line in the math/science wing. They served different pizza all the time too. So the traditional triangle slices, “Mexican pizza,” small personal pizzas.
Outside campus was open, to us, when the weather was nice, as well. We just weren’t allowed to leave campus.
It was a really cool experience. I wish more schools did it that way.
Anyway, this was a really interesting video! I just found this channel today, and I’m loving it! If anyone makes it to this part of my comment & knows where they film, I’d be really interested to know. Thanks!

I'm a xaverian, Ranchi India. Well in normal school you can see rarely canteen but my college has both high schoolers, grad and post graduate etc field and it's top college in an entire jharkhand state. So left side of entrance there is an ice-cream parlour and near basketball court there are 2 cafe one is small window which sell normal price thing and normal snacks in reasonable price so everyone can buy and next to it there is another cafeteria which sells everything in normal but variety of foods and snacks (less oil thing) and there is another building which has chinese, Italian food and now I heard they make those much more better. So it's like we don't need to go outside.
And im my son's school fastfood aren't allowed so students can learn to eat heal6 food. And that goes in all school to promote healthy lifestyle.

the american girl was so honest abt our school lunches…esp abt the portion and the food given. I had school yesterday and they gave us 4 pieces of tiny chicken (kind of like chicken nugget size), a bread stick, juice and milk for lunch. I’m a high schooler…that amount still wouldn’t be enough even for an elementary school kid.

The American food can be healthy if they choose to make it using raw ingredients and not processed.. like for example the pizza, they can make dough from scratch, tomato sauce from scratch as well, and some lean beef or chicken for toppings. They can also add salad and fruits as sides and it will be a healthy balanced meal 😅🙂

First time outsider ate the papad in a right way. Even though she tried it assuming nachos but she did it correct way. Papad is a side dish that goes with main course, not before or after the meal. Also papad is good with beer or other drinks but again it’s not healthy at all. Well for sticky rice, we love it in Northeast India. Different sticky rice has its own different taste and smell unlike Basmati rice has no taste of its own but it absorbs taste of curry very well. Biriyani is always great with basmati rice.

As a kid living in a hostel in my country, Malaysia, my school serves 3 meals and 2 tea times. I have loved lunch and dinner time since they served fish or meat and always have fresh fruits and vegetables. Tea time is simple, just tea or hot milo with some crackers. I honestly didn't remember much about breakfast food because I prioritized sleeping more than eating in the morning 😂. So I usually skip breakfast at school but usually buy something from the school canteen for a light breakfast. It's so nostalgic watching these videos. Make me miss my school lunch and dinner❤

School lunches in the US are based on what school district you are in, for example, both the elementary school and high school , I went to there was no frozen, no boxed or processed foods, everything was made fresh by the mothers and grandmothers of the students and my son goes to the same schools I did and he gets the same foods I did.

American girl is super honest and the Indian girl is sadly wrong 😅 Parathas go with raita and dal with rice. Maybe she has been away from home for too long. People sometimes tend to forget things when they are away for too long. Not offensive at all.
