    I don't know why ASUS keep sending G14 in $2500 configurations to reviewers...it really hurts their price competition.
    Best buy has them for $1649 for 6700S and $1899 for 6800S.
    But anyway, thanks for the review. Were you limiting the CPU power manually? Other reviewers were showing the CPU drawing more than 70W sustained and getting up to 96C.
    I like that your version only goes up to 45W where it is still efficient and keeps the temps down to 80C.

    • @KitGuruTech
      @KitGuruTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      No, there was no artificial power limiting for our testing. We tested in the default 'Performance' laptop power mode. This allows the CPU to go up to around 45W sustained. Using the 'Turbo' profile does allow the CPU to push higher power if the GPU is not being used. However, I don't necessarily see the value of running close to 100C on a 14" laptop and using the Ryzen 9 6900HS so far outside of its efficiency window (AMD specifically highlight that Zen 3+ Mobile has been designed for efficient performance). Especially because the performance, cooling, and noise were very good at 45W sustained on the CPU. Luke

    • @taelee347
      @taelee347 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@KitGuruTech Thanks for the reply. How much performance would we lose if we run the CPU at 35W as AMD says its nominal TDP is?

    • @KitGuruTech
      @KitGuruTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@taelee347 It probably wouldn't be a significant amount of performance loss because of the way the power-frequency curve generally works for AMD Zen architecture. It'd run cooler and quieter though. But then again, the 45W mode was reasonable for noise and thermals. I'm fully expecting to see other HS-spec laptops running at 35W, so hopefully we get samples of those in the near future. Luke

    • @sylphorsylvie8148
      @sylphorsylvie8148 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could be wrong but i think its more to do with the mode in armour crate software. Even though manual seems higher config than turbo, manual only allows cpu wattage to go upto 45W at most if i remember correctly, turbo on the other hand can tone down the wattage given to graphics if necessary to further boost the cpu clock speed and thus consuming way more power.

      So, i'm looking for a laptop that can handle editing large scenes in Blender. Lots of objects, high subdivisions on models, lots of polygons, etc.
      The laptop will not be used for gaming.
      I don't care about the scene render-time as I will be using a render-farm to render the scenes.
      I don't care about the physical size of the laptop.
      The laptop will be plugged in 99% of the time so battery performance doesn't really matter either. I know it sounds like i should just get a Desktop, but I like to easily move around my house to different locations instead of being hunkered in one dedicated computer room.
      And I'm open to buying a laptop that is a few years old if the used price can get me under $1,000..
      Just something that can handle editing and modeling large complex scenes in blender without needing to render them on the device.

    Stop including McAfee. Smarter words may have been spoken, but I haven't heard them. 😁 I'd have to think that in any higher end laptop most potential consumers would happily pay an extra few dollars to get a clean Windows out of the box with the extra peace of mind knowing it will stay clean. What they don’t tell you is you can disable the RX6800s in realtime and still game with the RDNA2 APU which is perfect for 1080p gaming and emulation gaming! What this does is significantly help with battery life as you game with slightly less demanding titles. Thats where the AMD Advantage benefits with this model. It's very efficient. The 3070 laptop doesn't have a QHD screen unfortunately (and plugging into a monitor changes the performance comparison due to the PCIe bandwidth). Something all big reviewers don't mention , yes its a gaming laptop but business use and productivity this laptop failed miserably and here's why. No print screen button for alt+print screen screen shots, amd gpu's are not compatible with citrix workspace vdi's i had issues where the mouse cursor disappeared into excel spreadsheets (there's a workaround to amend the register key) , the vdi kept showing pink and green squares and kept crashing at times. The heat being directed to a glued bezel is not a great innovate idea , it will fall apart in the long term, the enter key is awkwardly cut short with the hash key above it. The charge cable is shockingly short from the connector to the heavy brick. The realtek microphone array would not work with microsoft teams, but once I installed armoury crate selecting ASUS own microphone with silencing then it worked. for gaming yes this laptop is excellent, for business no.

    Let's be real, the average school aged person from High School to College more than likely isn't buying this to play "Video Games". A College Student may get it with the help of their parents for school and play and more than likely a Engineering/Computer Programming Major. Other than that it'll be your working 9-5, tech aficionado who makes enough to buy it out right on has good enough credit to get it from a major retailer.

    They probably didn't bother putting hdmi 2.1, because in the real world if you buy this laptop, you'd never be able to take advantage on 2.1 to begin with, and certainly not doing 4k/120. Plus its hardware would support a 1080p-1440p monitor with FreeSync so not needed. Important to explain things like that instead of just saying...its disappointing without facts or reason as to why.

    yeah...smart shift just marketing talk for "shared cooling system max cooling tdp of 120w" thus 30w cpu 90w gpu...and potential for more cpu in theoretical benchmarks or pure cpu/workloads. AS the cooling is shared and gpu is not taking load. They tried this in my zeph g15 with a 65w cpu that would "be capable of competitive performance" for pure cpu loads...and shift load with trying to max out GPU wattage to 100w as it would cut cpu down....ironically it would stlil run HOT AF at 20/25/30/35w on cpu...bc most games want to push a single core/thread to as high as possible and even a single core at 4ghz+ is just not possible i with the 5900 monolithic cpu. Hell even the 5700g cpu is yielding 3070 frames with 3080 gpus. If a 3070 was with a zen3 cpu or a 5ghz intel vs the monolithic apu from amd with a 3080. So even on a desktop with maximized cooling and the potential to push 4400mhz ram with a non zen amd monolithic cpu....it means nothing from the inherent lack of l cache compared to zen3 and the r9 zen3. ALL this would you pay the "price" talk could easily be silenced if they tarted releasing 144hz 3ms pure APU laptops for ppl that want to work/game around the 500-600$ price point in a thin/ light formfactor. Being better than an mx450 off the apu/igpu....ppl could easily play moba/card games/arpgs/looter/pve games affordably and still have a work/school system all in one. With good bettery life granted the size they offer. Ive been saying this/waiting for this for years now but were finally getting to this point...also with the advent of wifi6 and nodes/ethernet hubs off these nodes...you can easily stream a main system/beefy gpu and bring an apu laptop like that into another room and play hack n slash rpgs/sports games etc on a larger 4k display in an other room...or set up a racing sim setup in another room...while using your main rig to do the actual rendering/work but still having a system/laptop to interface with instead of having a dedicated racing sim "RIG+ pc" ontop of a gaming pc for "games". Its a cost effective alternative given proper ISP/Main router you can actually stream entire steam libraries per ex i was playing hunter call of the wild on my 4k tv from a laptop while streaming it off my main desktop. As well as fallen order and connecting my controller via BT to the laptop and on the couch while my main desktop was in my room running the game LAG free so we really are "GETTING there". DAMN shame about the strix g15 advantage editon and the various returns due to shoddy liquid metal application leaking and grounding on the motherboard/gpu socket and frying gpus entire boards/systems as bestbuy had an "open box" carousel of the G15 advantage i almost got an open box one for 1289$ then saw a major exclaimer that they were just re-circulating laptops ASUS didnt validate with warranty/repair/rectify. Which totally put me off Asus any liquid metal laptop/asus option...and concepts like "amd advantage" or smartshift. I can only expect these things to get worse as thermal paste degrades and inherent voltages rise and tolerances widen. IDK how ppl can even recommend a laptop with liquid metal as if the ppl using htem will only have 2-3 hour uptimes daily. Or only be seeing idle loads and basic content consumption through the systems.

    I think they've put a stupid combination of parts inside. You've got a processor that's too high spec for the thermal design, should have stuck with a 6800h, and then youve got a GPU and screen miss match. A 1600p display with a 6800s is stupid. The 6800s is made for 1080p. At 14 inches you could have got away with a fast 1080p screen. Dropping resolution in game on a screen that has a huge higher native resolution always looks fuzzy. A better balance of parts would have been the 6800h processor, and a 6800s paired with a fast 1080p screen.

  • @knightnxk2906
    @knightnxk2906 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    6800s is probably the worst gpu put this year into laptops, the reason is it's way more underpowered than it should be, it's like they were specifically aiming for better battery life for the trade off of the performance. all this laptop is good at compared to other line up or agasint nvidia and intel is efficiency, now if you are for that than good if not than it sucks bcos literally anything else than g14 will give you better performance this year, so that means if you dont go with all out amd build
