Yeah it's funny since inflation is supposed to be down. Having said that motherboards nowadays incorporate so much of what used to be included on add in cards and you dont have to go for the top of the line board to get decent performance...
@@philipjfry628 inflation IS down - we are now suffering price gouging, and people need to wake up to that and place the blame where it belongs - at the alleged "job creators" who keep laying people off.
The tomahawk is the board most people will buy, the ACE is the one we all want. its such a stable board based on history with such cool running components
I long wondered how motherboards could be so cheap. I guess motherboard manufacturers started wondering about the same thing! It's no secret that Intel, especially, whacked up their component prices significantly to hide increases in CPU price (since each new generation or other needs a new mobo). But also, given the engineering that goes into these boards, it's not surprising, to me anyway, that prices went up quite a bit.
Best rear I/O I've seen so far. Asus has always been my goto brand when it comes to motherboards but if I decide to go with Intel this generation MSI seems to be the clear winner with either carbon or ace. Though, it's digging a hole through my wallet and I haven't even bought it yet.
2:33 These offset bracket are not needed. If you pay attention to the actual socket position on the motherboard, you will not that the socket itself has been been shifted downward a few millimeters and ends up offset within the mounting hole pattern. This places the hotspot in the middle of any cooler on the market without the need for such offset brackets. I suppose it is possible that this is a design choice of the board maker and may not be present on all socket 1851 boards but i would recommend checking this out and discussing it so your audience is more informed. Derbauer did a video of this also.
Cant wait to see the new CORE processors on some of these boards, tomahawk makes the most sense to me for the price, over 300 for a board seems madness to me
Ace boards are incredible. I’ve never had one but my buddy has always had them. He puts more money into motherboards than most of us. Says it pays off.
Ace has more yet less. Missing is the Tuning Controller (JDASH) and supported RAM speed seems little less. But cooling looks better on Ace. Maybe. 5G vs 10G LAN where Ace wins. Z890 Unify X £514 ($670) vs Z890 Ace £650. Plus the Tuning Controller (JDASH) if you can get it as accessory. There is fair bit coin between.
I dont agree Leo with you saying high end boards should not get high scores - every product has to be reviewing on the merits of what you get for the money. Its true not a lot of people need a £600 board, but no one wants to see budget reviews all the time
Great review video thanks. I do love MSI after having an old motherboard for 10 years the x99s. I do need everything new now but atm cannot afford a new board let alone the rest of pc with chip and gpu etc. ❤
Thanks for the roundup. The only thing missing here is the bandwidth/lane count of the PCIe slots on the boards. E.g. I have a GPU (which can work perfectly fine in x8 PCIE mode), a x8 optical NIC and a x4 adapter board for u.3 SSD. Knowing what board (if any) of those would allow plugging all those devices would be really useful, I hope you will include that info in your future roundups.
What the heck is up with the unify not being available in some locations? its a brilliant board spec wise and the price isnt too bad considering the market today
Interesting to see the thermal hotspot moving to an offset position on the heat spreader. It does suggest delidding might be a good idea with this next gen..
Some good boards, I wish you guys would do some work with ASROCK again, their boards are such good value and we need some of that in todays crazy priced market
The Unify X is a work of art, look at that back plate, its stunning. Hope they change their mind and release it to a UK reseller - even for a limited amount of units
Z890 ACE is the board to get, assuming you want a Prosumer Arrow Lake build, possibly with a custom loop. The possibilities, the IO, the new BIOS, bifurcation of the second PCIE slot, I could go on forever. And yes, there will be X870E ACE also.
Good to see post codes coming back to middle range motherboards. I have the Msi Z890 Edge Ti on the radar, but if its price in Spain gets ridiculously high, a Tomahawk will be the choice.
I'd love to see a follow up, even if it's just a small article, that shows if there are any performance differences between these motherboards. I suspect there isn't any but never know...
Glad to see the Unify boards make a comeback. Picked up a refurb x570 Unify the other day for a house PC upgrade (dual GPU experiment; not SLI, and storage for a faux workstation) and as I deplore RGB in general, it's perfect. As the next crop of CPUs are fairly underwhelming, I find it almost comical that the motherboards are much more interesting for planning use cases. Not keen on the launch prices, so I'll bide my time and wait for now.
I think I will be missing this generation - its always too early to say which platform to do, as AMD X3D is not out yet and those should be incredible, based on history
I like the tomahawk - can you review it and the ACE - to show a good cross section of performance from their budget board and semi affordable high end board?
@@KitGuruTech Is it correct that the MSI Z890 Carbon does not have PCIe line sharing and therefore all M2 and all PCIe card slots can be fully occupied without restrictions? The ACE has PCIe line sharing in the specifications. Thank You!
Carbon and Tomahawk appeal to me the most. Everyone wants the ACE, but the audience who need that is very small in reality, its just too expensive for most people, some IO panel tbf !
The range looks good, the unify X is a lovely looking board, the tomahawk will be the big seller, but I remember not so long ago it was half the price it is now. the market is going mad
I really cant get over the pricing of motherboards in the last year - they used to be priced between £100 and £200 and you could get something really decent, now the entry point seems £300
It's like they looked at the current-gen boards and thought, “You know what this needs? More *everything*.” The jump from Z790 to Z890 isn’t just a generational tweak; it’s practically a flex. Dual Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7, 10-gig Ethernet... they’re turning what used to be “nice-to-haves” into “you-can’t-live-without-this” features. And that UniFi X? A motherboard for overclocking maniacs with a remote control to dial in chaos from across the room. MSI’s making it clear-your wallet’s going on a diet, but your rig’s going on a rampage.
Cheers guys, seemingly I need to get a new second hand car or a PC, the prices now are just mad to me. the cost of living means its harder to get anything nice like this and the prices are just wow

Only 4 SATA? For that much money u expect all 6 of them to be included in your motherboard.
