Thank you for this video Chris 🤙🏽 I would have bought the tamron soon and I’m happy to have e listened and watched your video 🤙🏽
Great video as always Chris! Can you use it in APS-C mode in a full frame camera like the A1 ?
I have a Tamron and Im looking for the gimbal who can handle it , and now you did it ! Thanks a lot !
man this was really helpful. Looking forward to watching the comparison video now
Glad it was helpful!
Hey Chris, can you run this set up on an RS4 or do you think because the lens is big that the RS4 would still be better and more stable?
Thank you for the great video! I have two questions. First, is the gimbal you showed an RS3 or RS3 Pro? Also, it seems like the 35-150 lens is connected directly to the camera instead of being mounted on the lens foot. In that case, wouldn't it damage the camera's mount ring?
after waiting for almost a year ive just finally ordered this today, thanks chriss! as a video shooter first, parfocal is a must otherwise i would have went with tamron!
also, how are you focusing when using handles? autofocus?
Could It work on Dji Rsc2? With a L plate on the body to give the weight for it to balance when zoomed in?
Or the weebill 2?
Do you have a Chanel for your weddings? And the kit you use and how you shoot?
There have been a ton of people who have had the samyang break at the mount. Have they fixed this?
I rented the Tamron and completely agree with the zoom being firmer especially while using a focus motor. It was quite annoying actually. I will rent and try out the Samyang lens for my next wedding thanks to this video! Appreciate the insight 👍🏾
Of course! Glad it could help
This is really good!
Can someone tell me if this lens is for all areas or just for wedding or portrait photography?
I've been using the Tamron 35-150 on my DJI RS2 for the last 6 months, I use a monopod with a quick-release fitting clipped to the gimbal's base which means I can let the ground take the weight while still having great manoeuvrability, plus I can also use it for extra height and reach when needed. This lens on the A7S3 is killer in low light.
Which monopod
Can you explain this setup more?
@@CrownPacificFilms FWIW I just got the rs3 and am about to set it up on my ifootage cobra 3 so i can use it's feet in lieu of the standard dji ones then pop it all on the monopod with ease, can update how it works, i imagine it will just be marginally less comfortable with the less ergonomic feet
Which monopod are you using?
I got the Samyang today. I’m scared to warp my camera lens mount with the weight this lens has on gimbal 😅 gonna play around with it and figure if I will decide to send it back. Great video man!
Wedding footage looks amazing this year👌
Cheers fella!
(9) months later, do you still have and use the lens ? I been looking at the Samyang for the L-mount...
As someone who does more photography than video the tamron makes more sense for me because the loose zoom on the samyang because the samyang will zoom while its hanging from a sling. I need my camera to be zoomed at where I left it.
Recently changed from Tamron 35-150 to the Samyang "version". Tamron has somewhat more contrast, but somehow everything pops better with Samyang. The autofocus feels snapier as well. It maybe has more fringing+ghosting and less sharper (by a hair!) but the separation of the subject gives back everything at least for me! Build quality : for me the Samyang has at least the same level of build quality if not better! The design is more modern- matches perfectly with my A7iv ! And the biggest + for me is the colors, although it has somewhat less contrast but not straight yellow right out from the camera like Tamron tends to be (and all modern Sigma's too!!).This is huge time saving and reminds me of my good old "Canon" days 😊 ! And no lens creeping unless is shaken downwards!!! But much smother zoom for photo / for video it stutters a bit from 35 to around 60 ...
I had no idea the Samyang was parfocal, that is wild.
Can anyone tell I have sony a74 +sigma 24-70 2.8 I need to use zoom option with this setup should I buy rs3 or rs3pro to handle this setup?
the rs2 is more than sufficient. i use it with 28-75g2, balance it at 50mm then you good to go zoom in zoom out without needing to rebalance
I was under the assumption that the Tamron was, indeed, parfocal. Maybe sample variation, perhaps?
I prefer the tamron 20-40mm + clear image zoom (to 65mm) for weddings. Much more versatile
Each to their own but that’s alot less reach
do you own either of the 35-150s?
20-40 and 65 is a 2x(+3x digital zoom).
The 35 150 is almost a 5x zoom without the sacrifices of DIZ and allows for 35 f2 .
So the 35 150 is like 2 or 3 zoom lens + a large aperture 35
How does this stay balanced? I can't find much info online about using zoom lenses with gimbals and didn't think it would be possible with the 35-150mm. I just tried balancing mine but can't get it to work...
Edit: Wait I think I have the regular RS3 and need the Pro
You can use counter weights or sell that one and get the pro version. I had the same problem and decide to sell it and upgrade but counterweights should work fine.
I have the Tamron 35-150mm with the RS4, I'm currently struggling to balance it as I'm getting shake no matter what I try, please please could you share your settings , even though you have the Samyang I think it'll somewhat translate to the Tamron. I'm also using the arms you suggested, thanks for that tip 😊
Balance it properly rs4 should handle it pretty easily, have balanced this on Crane 3 and rs2.. works pretty well
if you have the tamron 28-75mm, im thinking i would you sell that to get the 35-150mm? Thoughts?
exactly what im doing, then id get viltrox 16mm f1.8 for my ultra wide angle shoots. 2 lenses to rule them all.lol
What specific phantom luts did you use?
Tungsten is normally my go to.
Bought the tamron, got a rs3 only to find out that it‘s not working. Damnit need to change to the rs3 pro 😅
turns out the Samyang is not parfocal :/
edit: it's 'digitally parfocal' which means it compensates via motor while zooming, but often can't keep up (idk if this improves with newer software)
I am doing video and photo and considered getting the samyang to go with my tamron so i can have both on both cameras, lol
Is there a difference between the Rokinon vs Samyang? The Rokinon is $100 less
They are the same, Rokinon is for the Asian market, but there are no differences between them.
I was definitely curious about the weight I am like oh well I have the RS3 (not pro) lol the regular rs3 probably won’t hold it well lol
Yeahh I have the Samyang on a standard RS3 and I don't think it's really possible to balance it perfectly :/
You can balance it for normal mode well enough, but underslung/briefcase modes are no go - just not enough space on the gimbal :/
@TiberiousGreene @marios97 , did you find a solution for that?
2:20 about this parfocal Samyang lense. Have you done any tests that would prove that? I've seen some reviews that shows that it's just a marketing thing and not a real deal. Have you noticed anything on that. Because in my opinion it's one of the most important advantages to this lens. If it's true.
Yep. watch my other video directly about this lens, I show the results
I believe Gerald Undone said the Tamron was parfocal 💀
Thanks for this info,
Is it possible to use RS3mini with this lens?
Hi, I don't think so. I tried to use the RS3 mini with The Smayang 35-150 and it doesn't manage to fully stabalize it. It's always slightly tilted to the front.
I just bought this lens and will be running this setup like crazy!!
Boom there you go
This warped my lens mount
Nice video. I have tested samyang 35 150 on my Channel After update. 🤯🤯🤯
Bought the rs3 and it goes all over the place made sure it was balanced and it still doesn’t work 😢
It’s probably not balanced correctly, should work fine
There’s no way it’s balanced correctly. Once balanced it’s a beast of a machine
it's too heavy for rs3.
Don’t think it’ll balance in the non pro :(
@chrisbrockhurst U sure RS3 can handle one? Bcs I got one and it only can hols up till about 70 mm only🥲
Is there a way to increase the free space between the camera and gimbal, like an extension plate?
samyang is pretty good but it extends when you poiting it down
So what how often do you point down lmao
For me Tamron produces the best image quality.
that's not an ideal gimbal lens, a 24-70 is good enough for most situations. mine is Tamron 20-40 2.8 on gimbal and it's fantastic. good luck shooting 35-150 on gimbal for the whole day
Sounds like he already does. Don't skip arm day. Don't skip back day.
If your back and arms are a genuine concern while operating full days, then perhaps use some funds to invest in an EasyRig pack. Depending on the 24-70 you’re using, the difference is less than a pound. Trust me, your lens isn’t the decision maker, it’s the rig
there’s no samyang for nikon 😢
Yea, i’m gonna pass on Samyang lens creep. Helpful on a gimbal, not very helpful handheld
Hi!
👋🏻
This’s look like you lift 2-3Kg dumbbell all day. 😅
i ve seen tests here in youtube that they show that samyang is not parafocal ....wtf ? i went to tamron cause i trusted those idiots ...
It’s possible it varies copy to copy but mine is definitely par focal
@@chrisbrockhurst pfff i got 10 days to return the tamron.... maybe i ll try the samyang cause i mostly do video....damn ....tamron has 5 years warranty ....and seems more trusted company....thanks anyway for the review ... you made me thinking
@@sardanapalosnone of them are parfocal
Parfocal lenses are either manual , cine , very expensive or combination of the three
@@KNAPPAID well i only have used sone panasonic lenses for mirrorless and they are parafocal... and they had af....
@@sardanapalos question 1 - are they expensive
Question 2 - are they fixed focal length ( edit : forget this , primes dont parfocals , only zooms )
Question 3 - are they parfocal in Manul Focus also , because "parfocal" lenses applies to anything with fast af - and those arent real parfocal.
"But theyre parfocal still"
FakePars will fail sometimes ,actual pars dont fail as often and with larger reliability
first!

@@chrisbrockhurst I have been trying to move over to all Sony lenses only.....You make me want to grab the Samyang LOL
Same. I’ve just moved over to full frame from apsc. I had to sell the tamron 35-150 to find the transfer. It’s a beautiful lens but was just too heavy for my use. Thanks for this video through @chrisbrockhurst your experience with the Samyang
