I've had one for a while. I agree to all your pros and cons. For a lens of this weight and size, there should be a tripod mounting foot. This will spread the weight and take stress off the camera's lens mount. There's a couple of after market lens foot adaptations along with comments that they squeeze the lens or rub against the focus or zoom barrels. Tamron should have thought this through.

Got both the Tamron and Samyang to opt for the better one. The Samyang is bananas, but what led me to going for the Tamron was the HORRIBLE lens creep on the Samyang which made it a super headache to use, even though I like the photos and footage of it. However, if the lens creep is this bad when it's brand new... how bad will it get in the future? This made me go for the Tamron, even though I loved the touch & feel of the Samyang including the bigger zoom ring.

I think the perfect filmmaker lens would be a 24-135 f2.8 (2lbs), but I am not gonna complain, I have it and love it paired with my Sony 16-35 GM I.

Oooooohh… this makes me REALLY intrigued! And I do agree on the “possible to use as the only lense on the average job” point. And it does look great. Same feeling I get from my 24-70 G2. Which is BBC an amazing lens.
This lens was a reason I had changed to Sony system. Still find I use it less then I would like to due to the size and weight. Quality wise it’s absolutely at the very top. I also own the older 35-150 2.8-4 in canon EF. I really like this one as well. It’s considerably lighter and smaller. The image quality is pretty special. It works well on my Sony with including AF using the 7artisans EF to Sony E adapter.
bugger... you've made me want one! That focal range is very useful. Only question would be what's the minimum focus distance like?
I think the only reason that bother me to choose this lens is dust issue.
One of the cons is it doesn't have optical image stabilization. My camera body has IBIS in it though but I don't know how that would affect my overall footage because right now i use the Sony 24-105mm f4 with OSS in tandem with my FX3 IBIS when doing handheld run and gun work. I have a gimbal but it doesn't work when the zoom lens physically protrudes out as you zoom, so I do almost exclusively hand-held work. That is the biggest reason why I am on the fence about this lens. If Sont came out with a version 2 of the 24-105 with an f2 and OSS, I would definitely get it instead of this lens. The lower f stop is the biggest reason I would consider this lens because I do a lot of low light work but is Shakey footage a good trade off? 🤔
great test footage 🔥 do you happen to know if a sony captures gyro data with this lens for catalyst browse?
i'm curious if you've had experience using autofocus while zooming for video, and if so how well does it perform. i've used the samyang knock off of this lens and autofocus has issues while zooming in and out on a subject, particularly zooms on the faster side.
What mic did you use to record this video with? My goodness it sounds crispy

You definitely could provided you’re using a gimbal with good motors (and don’t have back issues!). I prefer something lighter tbh
Why is nobody talking about the various issues with this lens? seems slow to recognize objects compared to other lenses, the AF gets jittery when tracking objects at closer range, and Active Stabilization hardly works at all on this lens.
tha samayng is bugged as fu*k for manual/af in video, just sad thing I'm sending back to amazon ( wet it work is great)
