He had such a way with words ... yeah, I think I can say; he is looked to as an inspiration for a generation of chefs in a more positive life-affirming way than most. His love of food/culture lives on, he showed us the way
Make sure you bring a "clean" mobile phone 😊 that's what most expat do now when they travel to HK to prevent arrest because infringing the state security act 😂
Interesting to note that Asia Argento was the director and Christopher Doyle was involved to impart his cinematic style to the shooting of this episode. As a person born in the old colonial days in HK and has been living overseas for many years, contents of this episode still evoked in me a strong sense of familiarity and represent aspects of HK that were weaved into the fabric of my life. It is poignant hearing the young folks from the grunge music band saying they had the freedom to express themselves but were concerned if such freedom could endure over time. This reminded me of the recent BBC interview of the HK movie director Du Qi Fung (Johnny To). How one can think and say versus how one should think and cannot say.
wonton noodle soup is to me (chinese) way better than ramen - everytime i go to eat ramen im always craving wonton noodle soup instead - but sadly its hard to find good ones here in the states
@LuckyFruitRacing Idk man, judging from the episode itslef, I kind of like it. Hongkong with heavy infused Wong Kar-wai, with Doyle as the cinematographer, dope. But behind the scene, it was the beginning of an end for Bourdain.. I recommed Roadrunner, Bourdain documentary to examine it further. Cheers
The porc cotelette with tomato sauce and rice is like piccata milanese. That is veal (porc) Schnitzel battered with egg and fried. Served with tomato spaghtetti.
Totally, it's explained in Burdain's documentary... when they were forgetting about the cameras and being sincere, they just cut because of the shot was not good enough...
I find the cafe that offers a combination of western and HK food (ham spaghetti milk tea etc) is an abomination of the full English breakfast 😅 It's the only food I wouldn't touch in HK if I can avoid it. It's mainly catered for HK locals to experience British food. This is coming from an Asian living in the UK.
Somehow missed this one until now. Hong Kong,Tony, it all could be disappearing before our eyes 😢 almost glad he’s not here to see it. It would have made him sad.
Wow, so many untrue messages from the guests trying to portray a negative image of HK and put a bad name on the government. Stick to the food, stay away from politics but then again you had an agenda sir. RIP
I miss the old pre-handover Hong Kong. It had a different vibe to it back then, always holding your eyes in bright, open amazement. Now it's just dull, depressing, disappointing.
Bourdain's stories are always much deeper than the food.
he was a living legend. he is sorely missed.
Yes
Tony showed us that the best way to understand cultures isn’t just by reading or talking about them, but by experiencing them through food.
Good point, food embodies the best of every culture.
I’m a simple man, I see an Anthony Bourdain video, I watch an Anthony Bourdain video
After all these years, I just realized his opening monologue was about his love life, what a poet. Sorely missed.

I love how much pride the umbrella man has. Cast him in The Penguin 2 making him his black umbrella.
Thanks for this channel. Great to have an HD archive of his episodes. I miss him every day I open my TH-cam feed.
Anthony is one of the best I've seen traveling to eat.... things like this don't happen anymore..
THE BEST.
OMG I couldn't believe my eyes when Christopher popped up!
Thank you Anthony and the crew🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
This episode is gold
Love his stories so much, there is always more to meets the eye in every culture and food experiences

Impressively beautiful people, places, and life experiences. 🥰🌹👏👏
Haven't been to HK in ages. Not sure if it's quite the same anymore, but it was easily one of my favorite cities in the world

…and apparently Bourdain’s OG crew hated her. Watch the doco “Roadrunner.”
Yeah this was covered in the Roadrunner documentary and it was one of the crew's least favorite and disruptive episode shoots

The episode that broke the camel's back
Bourdain ❤️
What an episode
Knowing that Asia herself directed this episode gives me mixed feelings..
Why?

This makes me so sad, missing the Hong Kong of my youth. It's gone now.
Thank you for popping up again, Anthony & Chris!
I was at the noodle stall when they shot that scene.
Love from Hong Kong.
What's the name of the stall? May I have its address?

He caught HK in its last burst of vitality in 2018.
Isn't the episode Asia directed?
27:44 - Asia and the team ruined the moment.

HK all good
Allegedly an episode where it all went to shit between Tony and the crew. Because of Asia Argento.
Sadly I think the HK culture will soon vanish.
It's basically the same as every other episode of PU.

Nothing has changed in HK except just perception. People in China are more free than in the UK.
