  • Chronic UTI is complex, and every person's experience is very individual. In this video, Dr. Stewart Bundrick provided insights into why some people may experience UTI symptoms after sex, or after eating certain foods, and the correlation between mental health and chronic pain.
    ● When patients experience UTI after sex, it is indicitive of an embedded infection. During sexual intercourse, bacteria in the lining of the bladder are disrupted and released into the urine where they rapidly replicate.
    ● Dr. Bundrick believes that some patients are genetically predisposed to experience UTIs after sex but research has not yet been conducted in this area.
    ● Unfortunately, for those who experience UTIs after sex, there are no steps that can be taken to prevent it other than pre-medicating with antibiotics.
    ● For those who have recovered from a chronic UTI, Hiprex can be used as an ongoing prevention method.
    ● When it comes to food sensitivities, Dr. Bundrick believes that while certain foods may cause further irritation and discomfort, they do not actually worsen the infection.
    ● Though Dr. Bundrick is aware of patients whose symptoms change with their menstrual cycle, he is unable to discern any cohesive patterns.
    ● Dr. Bundrick concedes that the healthcare system is lacking not only practitioners who have expertise in caring for patients experiencing chronic illness, but practitioners who have the emotional bandwidth required to support these patients for the long term. Unsurprisingly, there is a correlation between patients experiencing chronic pain and depression, which is why it is not uncommon for antidepressants to be offered.
