    Great video, Scott. A lot of expert information is packed into this one. And, thank you so much for the mention at the beginning - totally unnecessary, but very much appreciated. Take care, my friend.

    That's great! Painting of figures at the highest level.Hornet heads).The only thing that I am surprised by the figures of tamiya, because they are quite worse than dragon.

      @SmallSoldier  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! It really depends on what figure sets you’re talking about. The new figure sets from Tamiya are light years ahead of anything Dragons done. Dragon hasn’t released a figure set in years.

    I definitely book marked this video. I like the colours you use and process. I just can’t blend acrylics to save my life.

      Glaze medium and retarder are key for blending. East ridge hobbies has the retarder.

    Always great to see one of the masters at work! That scratch built helmet inlay alone is just crazy! I like how you showed your approach in such a detailed way, it really helps to understand the reasons why you do this and that. The resulting figures are amazing, thank you for sharing this.

    Great to see, or better hear you back! They came out great, wasn't expecting you to use dry brushing in such a big scale. And yes, I would totally love to see you painting a 1/10 bust with acrylics. I was thinking about trying the same, as I was hoping to safe some time and finish it quicker than using oils. But as you just said, quality needs time. And I am not sure about painting a bigger piece in acrylics because oils are so much nicer to blend and build up in layers. So, I would be very interested in you doing it👌

    • @SmallSoldier
      @SmallSoldier  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much my friend! Yes I’ll be doing a bust next… I think. I have a few to choose from. I still love oils and won’t give them up
      Anytime soon, I just want to try and develop my acrylic techniques and get them on par with my oils. Thanks for your support!🙂🙌🏻

      @@SmallSoldier it's a pleasure. Would be great to see a new bust from you, but I know this struggle too, so much things we want to do, so little time. Acrylic skin tones are the most challenging to me, uniforms and details are fine, but skin tones are hard. So a bust in acrylics would be very interesting to see. Looking forward to whatever you choose to do next👍

    Just a heads up... Vallejo glazze medium already has drying retarder in it... so you're doubling up (maybe you want the even longer drying time, personally I'm a little fast I paint and have gone back for the next highlight and found everything was still too wet with just using the glaze medium.)

  • @kiwiruna9077
    @kiwiruna9077 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A great tutorial,thanks Scott and its good to see you back, I've started airbrushing using black & white as a first step using Tamiya acrylics, but I'm experimenting using enamel glazes instead of acrylics while its a 'in progress' I'm starting to get the hang of them, which means I may even try acrylics in the far future. I'm all for long videos fyi.

    • @SmallSoldier
      @SmallSoldier  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I’ve used Humbrol enamels in the past with very good results so enamels are a great option as well imo. Good luck with your painting.👌🏻🙌🏻

  • @curtistowers9817
    @curtistowers9817 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For acrylic painting I have started to use retarder to help with the drying time and to allow for better blending. It changed a lot on how I paint, which you do state. Sometimes I think there are acrylic no no's or vodu methods you are not suppose to do but then in the end, it doesn't matter. LOL You did an awesome job thought Scott!

    • @SmallSoldier
      @SmallSoldier  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Curtis! The retarder and glaze medium really help to relieve the surface tension and eliminate those annoying tide marks that acrylics tend to dry with. I’m enjoying the new process and have learned a lot.🙂

    Hi Scott, good job on the figures. Good job on removing the mold lines. I find that they're very bad around the feet of most figures. I would love to see you tackle a larger scale figure in acrylics. Maybe something Roman or a Samurai would be cool. Also, I prefer the shorter format videos as time is my enemy.

    • @SmallSoldier
      @SmallSoldier  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Glenn. Yes the next will probably be a 1/10
      Scale bust. I’ve had mixed feelings on the longer and shorter videos. Some say as long as possible and other such as yourself say shorter. I’m still undecided but I totally get your limited time as I’m exactly the same. Maybe someday I’ll be able to do this TH-cam gig full time and time won’t be an issue. 🙂🍻

    I know glazes are very thinned out, but is a wash even thinner than a glaze?

    • @SmallSoldier
      @SmallSoldier  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generally a wash is thinner. I use glazes to alter a colour/change the tone. A wash is meant to emphasize panel lines and such.
