Great job, I could only watch this with envy, I have almost finished building this and it has given me nothing but agro. A complete drama, unusual for Tamiya, first one that almost got shelved. If the Handlebars don't go on it's going in a diarama where a Tiger reverses over it. But the figures are out of this world, a pure joy, got my money's worth with them alone
Very nice James! I've been extremely busy with the Hood model and this is the first chance I've had to watch anything. The figures we're especially well done. Cheers!
Very nice work on much improved figures by Tamiya and the Kettenkrafttrad. I did build this decades ago but the early less detailed figures and not the best paint job either. I hope i can find this kit and try it again eith the lesson i watched just now. Excellent work.👍🇭🇲🦘✌️
Welcome back and what a cracking little model to show us. Nicely built and weathered as always. I wish I could do the figure painting half as good as you. Looking forward to the next vids with your updated equipment. Stay safe friend.
I love that they included the bending jig for the PE bits. I hate when kits supply PE and its got a curve and such and its like well i guess I'll just hope it doesn't come out garbage
Great video with very easy to understand commentary. Very helpful when you described the glue you like, and tools and paints that you were using. That is very helpful to novices like me. If I could get my figures to look half as good as yours.... I'll keep working on it. Thanks!!!
Before coming here I watched videos on the Zoukei Mura and Das Werk Kettenkrads. This Tamiya kit appears to knock the spots off the other two. (Especially the Das Werk - where panel fit was dire.) Anyway, back to the plot... Lovely job sir, enjoyed your build, thanks for sharing it with us, oh and nice mud.
Stunning work, James! The kit looks like a winner and you've done a stellar job on the Kettenkrad and the three figures. As always, a terrific watch. I look forward to seeing the results of your next project on your new camera!
Fantastic work on such a small 35th scale kit! The new tooling looks awesome and responds well to detail painting. Been ages since I saw a Tamiya figure come in multiple halves but the end result looks great. Thanks for sharing This with us…..maybe a diorama is in the works for this vignette?
Hi 'cousin'! :) Learned about your channel through the Plastic Posse Podcast. I'm more of a wargaming-modeller, but now seriously contemplating trying my had at scale modelling for display purposes. This was enormously helpful and a terrific video.
Hi James fantastic build mate and lovely finish to not only the Kittenkraftrad but also the figures too. Tamiya seem to raise the bar with each kit they produce. I remember building the Kitten when it was first released by Tamiya way back in the 1970's at the time it was released with a cast white-metal engine. Well done James.
Thanks to the Plastic Posse Podcast, now I have found your TH-cam-channel! I really like your style, both in modeling and videocasting. I am very interested how you use those artist paints, varnishes, fixatives, pigments and lacquers from the Art&Crafts store, and how you can make your own custom stuff. Maybe you can make little video how you use them. Super interesting!
Shot in the dark here... I've built and painted the kit and painted up the figures. I'm happy with the results BUT... I didn't attach the right arm correctly on the driver. The figure's hand is about 3 mm above the handle bar grip. I figure I have 2 options. Saw off the arm as close to shoulder as possible, re-position and try to blend the seam with milliput. I've never done this so am fairly certain results would be garbage. Option 2 would be applying heat in some way.. boiling water but I'm betting this'll melt off the acrylic paint or a candle flame which I did set up to try but didn't go through with it because even if I don't manage to melt something or bubble the paint, the results would look odd and disconnected from the shoulder. Any tips out there? Magic buttons? Time machine? Thanks for any ideas or sympathy.
Awesome video!!!! Have not built this particular kit as of yet, but plan to. I have built the "ancient" Tamiya kit of this vehicle from the 1970s - think it was an OK kit for the time. Know that a few other manufacturer's have released their versions of this vehicle, but will stick with Tamiya for the simplicity.
I picked 2 of them up through the week there one to go in a diorama with RFMs new stug 3 full interior and a miniart Gantry set was thinking if having it pull a track back under the stug while up on a jack maybe get it like sunken into the mud abit popping a wheelie haha its a lovely wee kit really impressed with the track's
Thanks for sharing , i was contemplating purchasing this kit. You have convinced me to but im sure mine will be no where the workmanship of yours . ✌🇨🇦✌
Excellent build and paint James. I recently bought this kit and am thinking of a suitable dio to go with it. Chicken and the egg. What to do first ? lol. By the way Vallejo do a really good paint for rubber tyres and track pads. Vallejo 70.306 Panzer Aces Dark Rubber.
Another excellent video James. Looking forward to seeing what the new camera can do. Interested to hear what benefits you think the VMS cement has over the tamiya extra thin.
Thanks Bruce, with the vms fast setting it seem to be quicker to dry than extra thin, but a but slower than the extra thin quick setting. Adhesion wise it cures quickly and is durable. Very similar to extra thin, just a teensy bit quicker.
That is absolutely phenomenal work! Looks like I’m going to have to get one of these! Did you ever figure out the issue with the airbrush and the brown? It looks like you had to keep moving the trigger to keep the paint flowing. Something I have issues with sometimes…
Thanks! I think its the nature of the brown pigment. I have had trouble with all of my fine nozzle needle combos and many brands of red brown ( 0.2 and smaller). A fun fact, some pigments cannot be ground finer because it drastically effects the opacity of the paint to a point it may be rendered useless. That's why some paints are just coarser (microscopically) than others.
Great looking model, you make it look so effortless. I was wondering if you've tried the "pencil trick" to accent ware on metallic surfaces and edges, like on the tracks or where ware can be seen on metallic surfaces. What are your thoughts?
As always, stellar work, James. Your Camouflage and figure painting is brilliant as well as the quality of your videos. One thing I've noticed about the photographs of Kettenkraftrads I have seen, they never seem to display any markings. Is there any explanation for this? Keep up the good work. Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦.
hey i remember you being a fan of VMS products. A store in my country will be stocking it soon. How do you find VMS varnish compared to other brands (i watched a vms produced video on their varnishes and they stated to apply it wet so it doesn't dry while still applying it to the model, also that it doesn't require thinning and it can be sprayed on thick)? Also any thoughts on VMS thinners, slow-mo retarder? Thank you for the reply when you get a moment or chance.
Hi mate, I would be lost without my VMS stuff now, the varnishes are next level, I dont spray them really thick though just wet coats, I havent used the gloss so can't comment on that but the matt and satin are very nice indeed. I use a lot of their other products as well and I get the impression they are well thought out and tested properly before release. Definately worth trying
Welcome back. Love your vids, very inspirational. A question - I note you always seem to have a lot of paint in your airbrush cup, it looks more than your likely to need for the job your doing? What do you do with it when you've finished? Thanks 😊
Thanks Bob, quite often I burn through the lot, it's not very often I have to empty the cup. When I'm mixing colours in pots though there is some wastage. If I have empty paint pots I'll recant them but often I'll loose the mix.
Fantasic build dude! I got one if these to do from Das Werk(dragon rebox) the kit figures are fantastic! Always find Tamiyas box figure really naff but the after market ones are really good 1st time i think I’ve seen having good figures with the kit! Also great job on the figures
Cheers mate, Tamiya have started rereleasing their old figures to be updated. They finally listened and are putting out some really nice ones. Good to see a company take the initiative

Excellent work on the kit and figures. As a noob to painting the 1/35 figures, the close-up detail work is very helpful. Thanks for sharing!
I recently started back building plastic models and did the Academy Jeep, Kubellwagon, and Kettenkrad kit in 1/72 scale. Enjoyed the video.
Tamiya, nothing but the best ! Worth every penny !
Wow the figure molds are really cool!! 😮 Such a genius solution I can believe no one else thought of this before.
