Razor has an acrylic top with vents now after hearing the concerns shared here and looking into it a bit, as well as a lot more substrate, and I also moved the heating element pad to the side of the tank. He's doing great!
they also dont need heat mats btw, like that other guy said if you are comfortable, they should be. I think even at the side of the tank It's possible if they started molting there and sat through a super long molt, It's possible it could harm them/cook them to death. Most experienced keepers i know say to use a space heater if your enclosure room is getting super cold, like sub 60F. Also you shouldn't handle them or feed them that soon after molting, should leave em alone for 7-10 days, and always when handling do it close to the ground as any spider can possibly bolt at any time, and a fall from that height could easily explode their little water balloon abdomens. And lastly you should look into cross-ventiliation, If you have a buddy with a glass bit you can borrow, you can drill in a bunch of venting which is always recommended, you can never have enough venting Sorry to rant, beautiful spider, just want to make sure nothing bad happens to her!
I’m glad you added nice background music instead of scary haunting because I believe these creatures are great and misunderstood. Looks like you have a new best friend
Just bought a Mexican red knee and I am sooo excited for her arrival. I already have a name, supplies, live food coming and everything I need to make her feel at home. I have always wanted one so took the leap and hoping it all goes smoothly!!
She's beautiful. Definitely my favorite species of Tarantulas as well as the Pink toe and the Mexican Flame Knee. Awesome Tarantula such a beautiful spider.
1:23 You've probably figured this out by now as this was 3 years ago, but for new viewers who stumble across this - given the size and colour, at this point the spider is no longer a sling - it's a juvenile!
I got my first tarantulas a month or so ago, like you I never imagined I'd have some as pets, but these are proper little slings. B hamorii is literally about 1 cm leg span, and they're actually quite cute. Looking forward to them being a bit bigger but wanted to grow them from babbies for some reason.
Nice, the colors on your tarantula have definitely filled out very nicely, can't wait to see how the coloration gets once it's full grown, and my tarantula also sorta refused to leave my hand after I first got her and unboxed her, I have a Honduran curly hair (tliltocatl albopilosum)
Razor is literally adorable, I bought a brachypelma hamorii recently but hes a tiny sling and hes always in his burrow, cant wait till hes razors size tho💕
This video is so wholesome and awesome! I have a few tarantula’s myself and I can confirm that once they get a feel of you they’ll definitely get used/comfortable with you 🕷🖤 nice video!
I watch Tarantula Kat. She has an Amazing channel all about Tarantulas, feeding them, rehousing them, also about jumping spiders as well. So cute. Hope you have a Wonderful time with him..😊😊😊
Good job on the waterdish, maybe compact the substrate ab bit more. Tarantulas don't like to walk on loose substrate.Good luck with your little buddy. :)
I just got one around that size. Mines a bit smaller. I’m a little nervous cause it’s small. But it’s so cool. I’ve kept many ts beofre. Just not a fan of slings sometimes. (Even tho it’s not a sling anymore).
Yeah.. years ago I also started with 1 tarantula, a Caribena Versicolor... I now have 8 and have helped 2 arachnophobes appreciate the beauty of these fascinating creatures. Love my Ts and will always have them. ❤ Great video!
He's really cute. Remove the heat mat. If you're comfortable, he's comfortable is the rule. I've had a Curly Hair for a year now and am too chicken to put her on my hand. Knowing my luck I'll get bit. Lol! Tom Moran is a good info source.
I just got one of these, It’s about an inch now, and only has the pattern of an adult, but not the coloring yet. I’m curious how big razor has gotten in 2 years? I’ve heard they’re super slow growers. Such a beautiful species
That's exciting! Unfortunately Razor died immediately after one of his molts, apparently called a failed molt. Not sure what happened, but the pet store said it just happens sometimes. I have a Razor 2.0 though that I've had for almost two years, and it's quite large in comparison and has grown notably since then. He's an escape artist and easy to handle too though I only ever hold him every several months. Happy for you!
@@AdamCarsonX oh no! I’m so sorry to hear about Razor! I’m happy that 2.0 is going strong and putting on size quickly. I hope mine can grow and get out of this delicate sling stage quickly! 🕷
I love your video he's a cute little one I'm looking into getting one I was thinking a bigger one now I'm thinking I want a smaller female I love that you gave him a bigger tank what size did you go with also where did you get razor
Thank you. Usually any exotic pet store will have them; or, usually they can order them in for you and often give you the chance to see the behavior for yourself in store before committing to buying it. I think these tanks are 5 gallons.
Get a new lid they’re feet can get trapped after moult leave them be, also don’t under any circumstances handle from height.. other than that, razor looks amazing! How far has your collection grown?
It's one of the easiest species to handle and have as a pet. The female Arizona Blonde (Desert Tarantula) is equal in my experience if that's another you're interested in. I'll have a video on those probably in a month or so.
Yeah having to socially distance from people cause me to seek out non human companionship. Before the 2020 shutdown I had 1 tarantula...I now have 33! :)
@@AdamCarsonX it's not considered a sling that's a juvenile, and it's not a year old, if it is you're overfeeding it, they can take up to 8 yrs to reach full size, sometimes longer, that's about 3-4 yrs old or should be.
@@seansspoods9521 Yeah, at the time of this video I was new to having tarantulas and just quoting what the young sales person told me, but I think it was a juvenile as well
Good Luck, its a beautiful tarantula, but just a heads up, please dont go out your way to handle them, they are very fragile and delicate, but overall the enclosure looks very good for a first timer
When they first get in the check out everything in there new. World u would to if u was on a deserted island 🏝 right so ,wince they get comfortable he'll dig a burrow u should Barry the end of the cork bard about 4 inches beep so he can dig it out they way he wants it ,
A few days ago I added just over half. I heard about the side mounting being preferably, but I do have a barrier immediately above it in case Razor decided to burrow too deep.
Word of advice, please do not handle your tarantula up that high, if it was to fall then it would probably be fatal by rupturing its delicate abdomen, please handle responsibly by not having her more than a few inches above a surface, you’ll thank me for this believe me, as for her enclosure you’ve made a really nice habitat there 👍

No joke- I wanna have one. They are fascinating and beautiful

Same ! Spiders was one of the most scariest things in my life, I got one to face my fears and it’s not that bad actually .
So beautiful! Thank you for sharing your new addition and enjoy Razor!!
so cute and such a beautiful color scheme
Nice set up. You may find Razor rearanging things to his liking though.
I am gonna get one after Christmas 🎄

Hi have yours grown much now?x
Cool vid. They can be pretty active once a little bigger so make a great first T. Congratulations on your first one.
So cute!!! Thanks for making this video

you want to get a new lid cause their feet can get stuck and possibly kill him but other then that great job!!
Just did. Thanks!
Please tell me where you got that terrarium

I don’t recommend screen top. They can get caught on it if ur tarantula is one to climb on the top. I have 63 tarantula babies
Mine was like yours, too - wouldn’t get off my hand hahah.

I have one heading to me as I type , gorgeous little spiders , 🕷 razor looks to be extremely tame already 🕷👍🇬🇧

anyone have any tips on how to handle a mexican red knee?

Dude, I have got to get one of these. How old you suppose that one is at the time of this video?
Totally worth it! I believe between 12-18 months.

Watch Toms Big Spiders and the Tarantula Collective videos on this species
I just got a young 1 yesterday..
Get a new lid they’re feet can get trapped after moult leave them be, also don’t under any circumstances handle from height.. other than that, razor looks amazing! How far has your collection grown?
He loves you 😁❤
Is that safe to handle and have it as a pet cause I was thinking about getting one like that
It's one of the easiest species to handle and have as a pet. The female Arizona Blonde (Desert Tarantula) is equal in my experience if that's another you're interested in. I'll have a video on those probably in a month or so.
I am so jealous 😭😭😭
Got the same cage
How much did it cost you?
~$70 USD
Yeah having to socially distance from people cause me to seek out non human companionship. Before the 2020 shutdown I had 1 tarantula...I now have 33! :)
Haha! Great excuse to get outside more and find new friends and adventures.
How old is it?
I just wanna know
About a year.
How old is that bro
Only about 1 year. It's still considered a sling.
@@AdamCarsonX it's not considered a sling that's a juvenile, and it's not a year old, if it is you're overfeeding it, they can take up to 8 yrs to reach full size, sometimes longer, that's about 3-4 yrs old or should be.

hey mate, music over your voice was just a little too loud. Cool video!
Is he young?
Yeah. I have another that's a little older, much bigger, and still molts about once a month.
@@AdamCarsonX awww whats his name
Hey I want to pet a tarantula, but in my place no one is selling tarantulas I'm worrying, Do you sell tarantulas? I want to buy one Mexican redknee!
I don't sell any, sorry. There are some things I've considered getting that aren't available here either.
"Fear Not Tarantulas" and you can check out local pet stores.
Good Luck, its a beautiful tarantula, but just a heads up, please dont go out your way to handle them, they are very fragile and delicate, but overall the enclosure looks very good for a first timer
shouldn't hold up that high up very dangerous for the spider
Wow, he has an amazingly hairy body and nice color!
Time to check to see if you have posted an update video as this was almost a year ago!
Haha. Maybe I should. I've thought about introducing the other tarantulas and critters I've gotten since too, mostly wild caught.
When they first get in the check out everything in there new. World u would to if u was on a deserted island 🏝 right so ,wince they get comfortable he'll dig a burrow u should Barry the end of the cork bard about 4 inches beep so he can dig it out they way he wants it ,
Yeah, both sides of the cork got filled in with dirt as soon as molting was about to start, haha. It's pretty cool.
Dude u should not be handling him so soon after the moult...they're so sensitive...wait 2 or 3 wks...good luck w ur new T 🧡
Carson Wentz collecting Tarantulas now?
Nice video. But it needs more substrate, at least half full. A heat mat is better on the side, but not at the bottom🙂
A few days ago I added just over half. I heard about the side mounting being preferably, but I do have a barrier immediately above it in case Razor decided to burrow too deep.
No heat is needed
Females can reach twice that age; they can easily live to 25 years old.
The tarantula is smallllll

haha. my brother has the same water dish, the same terrarium and the same species of turantuala.
