Your offset and and wheels (how wide are they) are a huge part of it. Offset changes how tires fit in the truck and how wide you go on your wheels will change how the tires fit on them, so it will also affect how flat or round they become at certain pressures as well as how much bulge you get on your sidewalls, which translates on the rub you can expect between the tire and the suspension components too. Always remember that the way your tires fit only apply to your exact setup (mods, wheels, offset, suspension components, suspension wear, specific tires, etc)
Since it barely clears now, any off road driving when the tire goes up over bumps when turning it'll rub so much it'll probably rub the fender flare attached to the fender causing damage to the fender.
Hello, my take away from this is from the spare tire placement. I would recommend that if you don't cut the exhaust pipes and perhaps use some sort of heat shield wrap, that may work too. Just my 2 cents. Thanks again guys for the content.
Exactly. Fiberglass insulation as an example. Wrapped. Don’t cut off the exhaust pipe. The exhaust should vent away from the vehicle not underneath it. Carbon monoxide hazard.
I like your channel and enjoy your videos. Don't want to see ya'll put out incorrect info. Tire size above the axle does not increase clearance. Your increase in clearance is 1.05". 32.7" - 30.6" = 2.1". 2.1" X 0.5 = 1.05". They are nice looking tires.
Always put the spare tire wth the air valve facing down, when it loses air it will be easy to fill, otherwise you will have to remove again, and your tpms light wont be on forever.
You can't put it up with the valve stem facing down, plus that means the face of the wheel would be exposed to debris. Also, the spare tire does not have TPMS.
The reason the tire is mounted with the valve stem facing up so if water or moisture gets inside of tire it will not rust the valve core. To solve that problem buy a 12" flexible valve stem and pass it thru 1 of the wheel openings put tire the way it should be mounted facing UP
PatTheRiot i would consider the biggest tire size without a lift without any body chopping or anything else. At that point just lift it. Now if you lift it and you want bigger tires, that’s when you can do mods to the body or get an off-road bumper but do the damn lift first lol
Thanks for showing this. Although I was tempted to go bigger on my 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport, I decided to go with the Wildpeak At3W in 265/70/17 on Black Rhino's Sierra wheels. It actually feels great and I think I could have gone up one size. Anyhow, thanks guys for all the awesome vids. 💯🤙

Gabriel Guardado Actually, the 265/70/17 (31 inch tire) just fits without a lift. If I were to go larger, it would be better to get a lift. Yep, the 285's will definitely rub. The KO2's are dope.
I’m thinking of getting the KO2 275/70/17…. You think that will fit? I have a stock 19 trd sport. It does look like it has a slight lift 🤷🏻♂️ maybe an inch lol
On my 23 TRD OR, on the TRD alloy wheels I got 265/75R16 and I have no issues. I have not fully flexed the truck but I doubt I will have issues rubbing. For summer time, I run my steel wheels with 245/76R16 tires and I’m happy with that. If I ever decide to lift, I would only go with the TRD q inch lift, personally.

You need to match the lug nut SEAT to the wheel. "Acorn" does not tell you the seat type. I won't poke at you for your tool or style selections, but it's technically important to match the seat type - conical/taper, spherical/ball/round and old school flat.

Yah if ur gonna tell people this, id recommend doing more than just showing a stand still video. Telling people that they can fit this stock without showing more involved like flexing, driving, bumps etc etc. This is practically useless. Idk about this. A turn test in your garage is one thing, but actually driving normally on the road with this setup is another thing entirely, let alone trying to go offroad, Personally, I wouldn't run this big of a tire, in any case, because I don't want to cut on my truck and 35s look ridiculous, in my opinion. I think 32s are plenty big enough for this truck and they don't look silly.
The 285s won’t hit the wheel when the suspension compresses ? I don’t believe it. 265 75 16 is the largest tire you can put on Tacoma stock with out the possibility of hitting the well
Theodorski newkcomerski it will rub when off road. You're right on the 265/75/16, also 275/70/17 would work if you still want to be able to off road with them. Most people who are asking for this video do only daily driving
ran 255/85/16. never had any issues and i flexed out multiple times lol. The best and proper way to fit bigger tires to actually FUNCTION offroad is to infact trim and cut as needed rather than lift to think you need to fit the tire.
I would rather build a mall crawler that can wheel but dont wheel. And. Only lightly wheel it on dirt roads. And then buy a quad a dirt bike and a side by side and wheel the shit out of them like i did. These trucks are way to expensive to buy a 2020 trd off road then buy new tires and rims and shocks and re gear it and get a 6 inch lift and a super charger. These are all things you must do to propey wheel it and do the kind of wheeling i do. If you dont then all you are doing is ridding through puddles calling it mudding riding on dirt roads calling it hitting the dunes and driving 100 yards down a groomed trail illegally or at a track and saying u are trail riding. Yall pussy cant off road as good as i can.
Gsfbffx Pdhhdf yeah I mean I off road in my truck but shit all that gear you said is mad expensive to go off roading with the right mods to not fuck your truck up and it still might happen. But like you said suspension sliders and other armour lifts tires wheels are all so expensive. That’s not even including recovery gear and bumpers and lights if you choose to do so. I have a sr5 4runner with just the trd skid plate on it and bigger tires. Can’t afford an off road suspension or sliders or anything else right now.

geometric point of clarification... the difference in clearance (axle lift) between a 33" tire and a 31" tire is 1", not 2". Half of that diameter increase is above the hub.
"If you do NOT want to do any trimming at all, then you can go with a 32" tire or 275/70/17 equivalent." Does this apply to an "SR" with factory steel rims?

For every extra inch that you are increasing on tire size you are getting only half on ground clearance, if you are upgrading from 30's to 33's you are getting only 1.5 inches of extra height. Difference in between diameter and radius

Lol. Flat roads only.
Hello, my take away from this is from the spare tire placement. I would recommend that if you don't cut the exhaust pipes and perhaps use some sort of heat shield wrap, that may work too. Just my 2 cents. Thanks again guys for the content.
I suggest cutting a flat spot in the tire. 🤔🤔

Exactly. Fiberglass insulation as an example. Wrapped. Don’t cut off the exhaust pipe. The exhaust should vent away from the vehicle not underneath it. Carbon monoxide hazard.
Ran into the same problem with my 2023 trd off road putting on 285 70 17 i did the same thing and works like a charm
Amritt Villa wrong.
@@BlackGT1999 Oh you don't like the way the tires look. Is alright... That would be a subjective kinda thing.

My brain has cramps after all those numbers 🤪
I run the Wild Peak 275/70R17 and they barely rub on the after market mud flaps that Toyota makes. No body rub on 2016 Gen 3. Love these tires.
To solve that problem buy a 12" flexible valve stem and pass it thru 1 of the wheel openings put tire the way it should be mounted facing UP
@@Aroceen Not true
So if you drive straight on a perfectly flat road, you won’t rub.
LOL. Talk about chopping your shit up because you don't want to accept you need a lift and bigger arms if you want bigger wheels.
Any flex at all And this dude is having a bad day
Great looking truck.your wheels nice am contemplating lift etc . Gd info

Hi brother you think you could have gone up one size ? What you mean by that sorry I’m trying to upgrade my wheels also not sure which to go for . I wanted ko2 285/70/17 but I’m sure they will rub
It does look like it has a slight lift 🤷🏻♂️ maybe an inch lol
what rims did you go with ?
how have your tires held up? I'm interested in going up to a 265/70/17 on my stock '23 Tacoma. Any problems with rubbing at all?
ive got a 2 inch level on mine and currently have 265/75r16. Im definitely upgrading to 285's here soon!
I love the tight turn radius on my Taco. I'd say it turns just as tight as my Camry; seriously, if there is a difference, it is undetectable by me.
2020 OR extended. 285/70/17 with TRD Matte Rims :) Did the same thing with my trim. Took it on some gnarly hills. No rub so far on my first test today with compression

Mine rubs a little under turn +flex. 2018 OR 255/86r16 ST/Maxx. I would still suggest them though. 285s will rub a lot as you obviously know.
How about 17 inch rim
I have a 3' lift and can still get 255/85s to rub under certain situations...
I have the BFG AT KO2s and they don't rub at 265/70R17 on TRD rims. They look great and more importantly the 265/70R17 is a common size so you don't pay a fortune for the tires. I was just over $800 for the set on sale at my local warehouse club.

You need to match the lug nut SEAT to the wheel. "Acorn" does not tell you the seat type. I won't poke at you for your tool or style selections, but it's technically important to match the seat type - conical/taper, spherical/ball/round and old school flat.
F the haters. Great vid. Very minor cutting which would still be needed even with a lift. Obvious off-road limitations but you got it done. I'm sure the owner is very pleased with the way it looks. Can always decide to put lift later, meanwhile looking good this whole time!
2” bigger tire is only 1” worth of lift. Tires are round.
But doesn’t it still look two inches taller when you see the entire tire? It’s what the eye sees.
@@boblafountaine9560 no, it’s only one inch tire like the nice man said. It’s 1” taller on either side of the wheel’s centerline. If the hub mounted to the tread then it would be 2”, but it mounts to the center so it’s only half.
One thing he neglected to mention was changing the size from a 16-in to a 17-in wheel as well as the increase of tire.

Why? I’m just asking because I just got my Tacoma and wanted some beefier tires. Was assuming this size would work
I want to know too
Tires are too big. It will rip out your fenders once you hit a bump at speed
@Jamie It also depends on what width the tire is, what width the rim is, and what the rim backspacing/offset is.

Yup and method is a big part of that scene..
You can fit 32.5 with rub on Tacoma but you need to cut inside the finders not outside you’ll be fine. I have both Tacoma and 4Runner,on 4Runner you can fit a 33 you’ll rub slightly but take off the mud flaps and that should clear it just fine
I always thought Taco's had bigger wheel wells than Hilux's, but this is almost exactly the same amount of clearance work I had to do to fit 33's on my Lux with 0 offset wheels. Only difference is, mine isn't a mall crawler, so I did my turn test with the suspension compressed.
A tacoma is a hilux. Its just gas not diesel
@@zebrastripes875 Hilux comes with a gas engine too, they're not the same chassis, Taco is C section, Hilux is full box, and the Taco comes with a longer wheelbase.
So there would definitely be more modifications involved if i wanted a negative offset, right?

Don't forget the rubbing when leaving the mall bump LOL
For every extra inch that you are increasing on tire size you are getting only half on ground clearance, if you are upgrading from 30's to 33's you are getting only 1.5 inches of extra height. Difference in between diameter and radius
It's actually little more than 1 inch if you calculate going from 30.6 to 32.7

There is products you can buy to adjust this.
With a high dollar scan tool (Autel Maxisys for instance), you can go in and change the tire size. Some vehicles do not have this option but I know that is one way to do it. In other words, an automotive shop should be able to do it with the right equipment.
