Michigan Foot Doctors I’m a dancer and I was doing a jump and landed really hard on my heel. It has been 2 weeks since I first injured it and I went to the doctor because it had still been hurting. They sent me to get an X-ray and they said that there is nothing there but I was watching your video about calcaneus fractures and thought that’s what I might have because whenever I dance it really really hurts and when I do the squeeze test it hurts a lot. My heel area is also a bit bruised as well. I have broken my foot before on a different part and I waited 4 weeks before going to the doctors and it showed up on the X-ray do you think there’s a fracture that’s just not showing up or is it maybe just a bruised bone or something? What do you think because it still hurts a lot but I’m not sure what to do. Please help me out!

Heard a crack bruised around ankle painful but doubt a bone is broken or its a fixed fracture at most. Now almost 48 hs swolen but kept it under ice, antiinflamators and in a made up fixation ligature since the closest hospt its 45km away its covid pandemic anddd i have to drive back to the city in a manual car...

It's amazing how badly you can hurt and not have a broken bone. I have a severely sprained ankle (swollen, bruised, can't move foot up/down, can't put pressure on it) but the xray says it's not broken. The human body really is held together by paperclips, rubber bands and duct tape

@@marcusmorrison7788 I ended up having surgery. The surgeon used a 'tight rope' to stabilize my ankle and tendons. It was 8 weeks after surgery that I had some range of motion, 3 months post surgery before I had full range of motion.
A really good physical therapist might be able to help if surgery isn't recommended.

    • @EagleMiner
      @EagleMiner 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

@Anna Mesecher it really depends on the severity of the injury to the ligaments and if there were other parts of the ankle injured like the bone, the tendon, or the nerve. I sprained my left ankle four weeks ago. I had minimal bruising but lots of pain. The ligaments have healed but I can’t walk for too long until it starts to hurt again. The x-ray showed no bone fracture so I suspect my tendon was also stretched or partially torn. Just make sure you go to the doctor if it doesn’t get better. If it hurts to walk, then use a walking boot or whatever helps. If you don’t have pain moving it, then try range of motion exercises (don’t move it too far in one direction, only move it as far as there is no pain). After it is healed then you can start working on strength and proprioception.

I was hiking in the winter (February) of 2020 and my right ankle rolled really bad on the ice, the pain was like nothing I ever experienced, had to hobble back down a wooded hill and get in the car, adrenaline wore off and I felt like my skin was crawling...was hobbling for weeks, really bad bruising, couldn't even touch it without searing pain, could move the foot though little bit. Kept it in a brace from the drug store, was able to hike again in a few months, this was during covid so dr's visits were very limited...Wife was a huge help though, survived it!

We have to be our own advocates and not stop, or ask someone that you can trust. I rolled my ankle inward as walking, recessed storm drain was the step down , thst I didnt expect. I've had it assessed Day 1and then at 3 weeks, it's now been 8 weeks and I don't have the dull pain but it's lingering soreness, tingling top of the foot, cold soles, and it seems like it slips out at the joint as I become weight bearing after the seated position. They only gave me ace bandage and at 3 week I got a soft brace....I feel that it wasn't enough...frustrated because I've helped so many people when they've been in my current position. Thank you for this comprehensive video. Filled in many holes that other videos simply don't cover.

More of injury and re-injuring it:
Every few months (at least once a year) I'll step on an uneven surface and roll my ankle. It's also a pain that's there some days and gone others (when it's more painful on the ankle it clicks, but there is a more recurring dull pain on the side edge of the foot between the pinky toe and the ankle)

I sprained my ankle during soccer. The first hours I had so much pain, but I could still put a little light weight on it. Day 2 I started with taping my ankle/foot and bought a brace. Day 3 I've been able to walk easily with very little to no pain however i still cannot move my ankle left and right. There is brusing on both sides of my foot, small spots on tons and a small patch on the left side of the ankle bone. I can still move my toes and I can walk the stairs. Im guessing it's a Grade 1 tear but since its bruising im assuming is a grade 2. Don't think i need to go to the doctor as I feel little to no pain.

I was playing basketball and went up for the usual layup but something was off about this one, I jumped too far horizontally instead of vertically. My immediate reaction mid air was to plant my left foot to stop myself but I was going so fast that my foot rolled when it landed and I remember looking down and watching my ankle go inverted with quite a bit of force. I was in excruciating pain before I even hit the ground. Thankfully I had enough adrenaline to walk off The court and drive home but once home, the adrenaline wore off and the pain forcefully convulsed through my body so much that I projectile vomited once I got out the car

I've had a few fractures in my feet:
    1. Avulsion fracture of lateral malleolus due to ankle being sprained when rolling it into a narrow channel - excruciatingly painful. I went straight to the hospital for that and into a moon boot for 8 weeks.
    2. Spiral fracture of the 5th metatarsal, cracks in all other metatarsals and the two cuneiform bones - this occurred by a truck turning into the street I was crossing on foot. The driver mis-judged the distance between me and his truck as he tried to pass me. The truck's tyre caught the back of my lower leg resulting in these bones being broken. - 8 weeks in a cast.

My experience is that most orthopods avoid surgery on small long-bones, probably because the likely complications of such reduction procedures become their problems, and are potentially(?) worse than those of passive treatments like splinting. I had a complex (compression (displaced 1/2"), spiral, & comminuted) fx of the 4th metacarpal, and my climbing partner had a similar fx of her 3rd metatarsal. We both get functional compartment syndrome during significant exertion of the surrounding muscles because these fractures made the bones significantly larger in diameter (from infill of the many loose pieces & calcium overgrowth), leaving less room for exercise induced muscle growth or for circulatory engorgement ("the pump"). The only effective response to the pain that we've found is extension, relaxation, & elevation, to encourage venous & lymph drainage, to allow as much volume as possible for arterial & capillary blood. (Easier for my hand than her foot.) Ironically, the better shape we're in, the more susceptible we are. I presume we will have to deal with this until we are so old our muscles start wasting away. Yours might be simpler, but I don't know how much functional 'spare' room there is, for even the overgrowth of a simple fx, much less several side-by-side like yours. So this hint might help. When it hurts, she lies on her back with her foot up high & toes pulled downward.

Man your videos are awesome, I broke my fibula on my May 9 2020 jumping down 4 stairs on my skateboard (the trick i was trying is called a boneless ironically - switch front 180 boneless for all you skaters reading) landing on slightly uneven ground... I was landing with my right foot forward (goofy position, yes, that's really what its called... if you skate with your left foot forward is referred to as regular position fun fact) .. and my back foot missed the board so it was an out ward ankle roll (imagine a skater with the back foot dragging behind them off of the board) that ended up breaking my fibula on quite an angle. I was wearing a boot/ crutches for about 2 months.. since about July 15 I stopped using crutches, and slowly stopped wearing the boot as well but I havnt been using a brace.. it seems to be almost better but the area still seems to get get slightly swollen as my day progresses, then I put my foot up in the evening or wear my boot again overnight. The brace seems like a good idea. I am a drummer and the show must go on so i'm hoping drumming is helping strengthen it and not doing more damage. It was a decent break, been 3 months and 10 days now... does it sound like its healing properly? Theres no pain anymore except for when i put pressure just above the bump where the fibula meets your foot... so the fibula itself i guess, around the break site. I have to apply quite a bit of pressure and the pain is not severe. It just worries me that it is still swelling up a bit after so long. My entire job is walking all day (hospital porter) and id like to get back to work asap but I don't want to jump the gun and risk more damage. I know you can't give me medical advice but your perspective would be greatly valued

Hello, I am not sure if I have torn or partially torn ligaments. The way I injured it: I played left defender in a soccer match and jumped forward with the right leg in front to stop a pass, the ball hit my heel and caused me to step sideways. I had trouble walking right away, after 30 min I put ice on it and after 3-4 hours I went to the pharmacy to get some gel to put on it. First pharmacy didn't have anything, second one did, both told me to go to the ER because of the size of the swelling, so I did - x-ray came out - no broken bones. On the second day the pain kicked in and I couldn't step on it anymore(previously there was no pain - just a weird feeling preventing me to walk faster[ like a numbing signal]) I got an ankle tightener. 4th day came the purple coloring(by now I've been hopping/using crutches) on the 5th day I started walking again (stopped icing and putting gel, but fearing to put much weight on the leg - speed of a really old person using a cane. aaaaand today is the 6th day.

After two months I still have some swelling but at least I'm back to the court and also doing my regular activities. Sometimes my ankle feels stiff in the mornings but after I warm it up and stretch it feels almost normal.

    Please sir,
I had a ankle injury 2 years back, I consulted more than 5 doctors, x-ray mri ct neuro test.. I have done all but no use..they all say my leg is perfectly fine. I think the main reason was in normal situation I don't feel any pain, I feel it only when I do some serious exercise. so when the doctor twist and turn my ankle to check I don't feel any pain.
I was playing badminton (for the first time in a wooden court) and I felt a small pain in my right ankle when I reached out (in some what a full extended lunges position) to the shuttle. I continued playing for some 2..3..mins when sudden I felt serious pain i the ankle. Veins and all were like swollen up.. was not able to walk for free mins.. at that time upward motion of the ankle was okay but when I tried downward motion, the pain increased.
With in 10 to 15mins all felt normal but it was not.. stopped playing serious badminton, football.. I can jog but I can't sprint.
If I put my right leg flat and try to bring the knee forward I feel a high pain all around the foot.. not just in the front but in the sides also, around the balls.( With one hand if try to grab the ankle from front, I feel pain from Intex finger to thumb line )
Could you please tell me what causing this pain and suggest some solution 🙏🏼

So this is definitely not a diagnosis and always check with your doctor before any treatment but its always important to make sure flexibility is equal for the foot and there is not a contracture following a chronic injury. This can lead to ball of the foot overload the dorsal Midfoot compression syndrome. The #1 cause of chronic pain following an injury that we see is unresolved tightness in active people leading to many problems during high activity load.

I landed sitting on my foot, it being sideways and crushed between my fat butt and the floor, which is just a concrete slab with vinyl over it. I was walking my dog and he took off after some birds. Unbeknownst to me my left foot was on some small rocks and he pulled me off a curb and I ended up rolling my foot at a 90d angle. Now, my foot looks worse than any example in this video. The the foot is swollen and toes are purple, as is the right and left sides and heel. I’ve been to urgent care and the x-rays show no fracture, in fact they are normal. I can stand on it without any pain, I can walk gently. Looking at it the doctor says it looks broken but it’s not behaving broken (and X-rays are good). So, urgent care is not concerned and I’m not in pain (for the most part)…but it REALLY looks bad. When should I be concerned? Also, I’m flying to Dubai in 10 days…safe to fly long haul? I welcome answers from anyone

I am a teacher and sprained my ankle a year ago while coming down the stairs. Xray showed no fracture but MRI showed inflammatory synovitis with mild ankle joint effusion. I had no option to quit the job at that time, so I took no rest and kept working all days. I used to get cramps and pain while standing, walking, climbing stairs and swelling by the end of the day. The injury became more serious and I had to quit the job. It's been almost 2 months now I have been resting at home. But still I can't walk properly and my ankle shows stiffness, redness, swelling and burning pain. I can climb the stairs but can't go down the stairs easily. It really hurts. I feel hopeless and helpless thinking that my ankle has been permanently damaged. Not understanding what to do....totaly fed up now.☹️😫

I fell off the main deck of a cargo plane and when I landed on my feet, I rolled my ankle and felt a “crunch” feeling. My right the inside of my right ankle was black, purple and blue. I thought it was just another sprain so I decided to treat it at home. Wear an ankle brace, elevate my foot, etc.
But for some odd reason, it still hurts.

I got my foot caught in a rotating shaft on a machine and it was trying to wrap my foot around the shaft. The shaft was on top of my foot pulling my foot under and around it. A pin holding a coupler together on the shaft started digging into the top of my foot that's when I felt a bunch of pops and felt like something in the arch tore. Cat scan shows 4 fractures but I need to go to an orthopedic Dr. For an mri. The injury occurred 1 week ago and the earliest I can see a Dr will be another 3 days. I hope I won't need surgery.

I have now seen a specialist who says it’s a bone bruise/ bone dent. I’ve had to stop doing exercise now, I’m so afraid of my ankle degrading and that it’s been neglected for too long. I got caught in a toe hold in brazilian jiujitsu and it was nothing at first, then suddenly my whole foot gave way and turned much farther than it should have. There was a loud crunching crack and then it turned. However when he let go of my foot, there was no bruising, my foot felt fine and had full range of motion. It wasn't until the next day that the soreness started. It's been almost two weeks now and it's still an on/off soreness. Sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not. So I don't think anything is broken, but definitely got strained. The loud crack we heard I believe was just my joint cracking like when you crack your knuckles.
I'm not sure what to do about it other than just give it time to heal up.

I twisted and broke my ankle in a roller skating accident 18 years ago. It's finally starting to heal. The doctor put in a plate and screws on the outside of my ankle. He even bragged about saving money by not using titanium. Titanium is expensive. The skin wound shrunk to probably 1 1/2 inch across. The pain is mostly gone but still swollen. I wear lace up shoes to accommodate the size difference between my feet.

I slipped on ice and injured my left foot about 6 days ago - in fact, I slipped twice in a row - and I struggled to walk right after that, and had some lingering pain in it even when I lay still in bed that night.
I have however seen gradual improvements since then, and I recently walked to the supermarket next to my university, which is at a walking distance of about 20 minutes away, and I could walk _almost_ as fast as I usually do, with a little bit of a limp.
The only pain that I experience is around my Achilles heel if I put a lot of sudden pressure on it, which is basically why I walk with a limp (I can put bodyweight on it, I am just careful to not do it too much), but apart from that, I am pretty much fine, and I don't see any swelling or any deformations or anything like that.
