Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!
Perfect explanation. All questions has answered !
Thank you so much!
Hit the nail on the head as always!
Thank you so much Sean!
Great to hear and how the initial phase immediately after the sprain. And the science study to support it.
Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
What excellent diagnosis & therapeutic advice. I feel better already!
Very kind! Thank you Steven!
very informative as always .. Thank you for uploading
Thank you so much Aizaz!
Is the advice the same for grade 1, 2 and 3 sprains? And does the advice differ if the CFL is also involved?
My friend, you are very informative, concise and helpful. Thank you so much for this video ❤

Is it safe to do these exercises whilst it’s still swollen? Still waiting on nhs over it… done through repetitive strain injury after swimming Lake Coniston and Ullswater full length in recent weeks. Thing is, I’m 6 weeks out from swimming Windermere so need to crack on witch a fix asap
Veri good explanation in easy way
Thank you so much!
Hey!
I just had a very recent ankle sprain that got much worse after another sprain a week later from the original one.
I watched your video and found it very informative, it explained how I literally got my first sprain. Thank you very much!
So, story short I fell around 8 days ago and a week later, I walked a few steps without the elastic support, and suddenly I was all over the floor and this is when I realized this 2nd fall got me way worse.
In that first week, I tried to relax the first couple of days, but very quickly I resumed my Yoga and bit by bit, started to treat my ankle as if it was not injured, I was still off from work though.
After my 2nd fall, I got too scared, especially that my doctor advised me to wear a removeable immobilizer for 3 weeks and I am too scared this could be an ongoing condition where I could fall anytime I am walking or running or doing anything of the sort.
I work as a Flight Attendant and our uniform standards will not allow me to wear an ankle support whilst on duty.
Questions are, if I have a complete torn of all three ankle ligaments, how long it takes them to fully recover? And, After how many days I can start the strengthening exercises for my ankle?
Lastly, any advises please?
He dont reply bro
1week till swelling goes away then 4-8weeks in HARD CAST.... then you need around 4 weeks of terapy to walk like human again.
You did good but you made mistake...dont streach YOGA EALRY, Dont walk on it... If you relaxed for 2-3weeks without cast and heat-cold leg you be fine..... NOW YOU NEED 6weeks+
I had a really bad inversion sprain over 5 months ago now, my ankle looked like there was a golf ball inside of it, initial X-ray didn’t reveal anything… but now I’m getting pain on the INSIDE of my ankle from simple treadmill running and I can’t take more than 5-10 minutes of it. Any idea why?
Hello sir my arterrior ligament swelling since 20 days but no pain but still swelling and doctor says do ice and wear ankle belt but it still not work plss tell me what do with this
This was the assessment I received:
- Closed nondisplaced fracture of medial malleolus of left tibia, initial encounter
- Grade 2 ankle sprain
Its barely been a week. The Orthopedic dr. said I have to wear the boot and crutches all the time except for showering.
Do you still recommend following this and not taking the boot off at all?
Thank you so much
You’re very welcome!
very informative
Thank you so much!
Curious to know your thoughts on joint mobilizations during ankle sprain rehab? (At non affected joints not injury site)
Hey Mike! Yes also be done at the ankle joint as well! We have gone through this on a webinar with top sports physio (Max Verstappens Physio) which is part of our membership (member.clinicalphysio.com)
Sorry sir you did not grade the ankle injury & use of plaster slabs in grade 3 or grade 4 injuries asfar as I understand ligaments get stretched or torn depending on the grade of injury role of scans & the need for immobilization for sometime for the ligaments to heal in position to prevent laxity of ligaments & future instabilities ihope I'm correct pls update
As usual 💥💫
Thank you so much!
Surely swelling is important though as it's bringing fresh fluid in to the tissues to flush out the toxins due to the damage?
It's been 2 years and my ankle is still not healed. I am just 30 years old and I feel like I have become disabled.
Would love to know a little more detail on timelines of each of these phases. E.g. do the ROM exercises last for 3 days or up to a week before you begin basic strengthening? Obviously will depend on injury severity
Hi! A good way to think of this is to move on when patients can achieve certain markers, rather than based on time. E.g. ROM and gentle weight bearing exercises can be progressed to strengthening when patient has full weight bearing and 3/10 pain for example…… We have gone through this on a webinar with top sports physio (Max Verstappens Physio) which is part of our membership (member.clinicalphysio.com)
Findings:
Soft tissues:
Edema in the subcutaneous fat around the medial and lateral ankle reflective of
a nonspecific cellulitis.
Bones:
The ankle mortise is in anatomic alignment. No fractures are identified.
Abnormal bone marrow edema seen at the talar dome and, medial malleolus and
posterior malleolus concerning for osseous contusion. Focal loss of articular
cartilage at the lateral talar dome seen on coronal image 17-18 with slight
flattening of the articular surface, ikely representing an osteochondral
injury. Large ankle joint effusion. Posterior subtalar joint effusion.
Tendons:
The Achilles tendon has a normal appearance.
The posterior tibialis tendon, flexor digitorum tendon and flexor hallucis
longus tendons do not demonstrate tenosynovitisor tear.
Moderate tenosynovitis of the peroneal tendons without tear.
The anterior extensor tendons have a normal appearance.
Ligaments:
Anterior syndesmotic ligament is torn.
Anterior talofibular ligament is torn.
Calcaneofibular ligament is torn.
Posterior syndesmotic ligament and PTFL are not torn. '
The calcaneofibular ligament is not torn.
The deep deltoid ligament is not torn.
The tibiospring ligament is not identified and likely torn..
Other:
Abnormal thickening to the medial band of the plantar fascia consistent with a
severe plantar fasciitis.
The sinus Tarsi demonstrates normal fat without focal lesion or cyst.
The tarsal tunnel does not demonstrate any space occupying lesions.
Impression:
1. Abnormal bone marrow edema involving the talar dome, medial malleolus and
lateral malleolus likely representing osseous contusion. Probable small
osteochondral lesion at the lateral talar dome. Large joint effusion
2. Tear of the anterior syndesmotic ligament, anterior talofibular ligament and
calcaneofibular ligament. Tibial spring ligament on the medial side is not
identified and is likely torn also.
3. No tendon tear. Moderate tenosynovitis of the peroneal tendons.
4. Severe plantar fasciitis.

Question
Am i going to need sergury?
I have 5th metatarsal fracture 😢
I've been working on my ankle, ROM, band, and calf raises. It seems like things are getting better, but then I wear shoes and it gets aggravated again.
Wishing you all the best, and hope you can keep making progress!
I sprained my ankle very bad 5 weeks ago the inner ankle and the back of my foot hurts a lot I can’t walk right it’s almost like my whole leg is stiff I’m going to try physical therapy
So sorry to hear that but I really hope that physio helps you 🙏🏼
Hi. Any updates?
Yeah, I'm on my 5th week of ankle injury (no idea how I did it). My pain is around my ankle on both sides. I'm doing exercises and I'm really struggling with inversion and resisted plantar flexion, my foot just starts shaking and eventually drops. I'm elevating and icing, I'm using elbow crutches (meaning I can't swing the leg in the air, I have to put weight on it) and after 5 weeks, I still can't put any weight on the leg. Even walking with crutches I need to take regular breaks as the pain builds up and without the ankle feels like jelly and I'm struggling to not collapse with every step. Doctors just told me to 'keep doing what you're doing' and I see no improvement at all.
So sorry to hear this! Would definitely suggest seeing a physiotherapist if you need support 🙏🏼
@@ClinicalPhysio I am but so far no help.
Hi Sir, my leg lot twisted while playing football 3 months ago. I took MRI last week and the impression is:
1.Grade II sprain of anterior talofibular ligament.
2.Grade II sprain of posterior talofibular ligament.
@ClinicalPhysio Could you please suggest on the further treatment?
The best suggestion I have is for you to consult a physio with a full consultation so they can give you direct advice having assessed you 🙏🏼
Thanks for your information it was useful and wonderful, 18 months ago I got inversion during a football match however I did an X-Ray but it didn't show anything and the doctor told me that it is not serious go and rest for a few days then slowly start your exercises again after rest I have done after rest when I started doing sport pain started again until it became worse.
I have referred back to doctor he told me to do MRI and the following is the result of MRI:
1. Subchondral fracture of dome of talus bone with associated surrounding moderate edema.
2. Mild free fluid in tibiotalar joint space.
3. Sprain of anterior tibiotalar ligament.
since that time I have used different medicines under treatment of doctor the front pain is solved but still pain suffers me from the right side and back of ankle some them of doctors say that there is no need for surgery it will be ok in the feature but some says that it wouldn't be back to its normal situation and also no chances of surgical operation. And one thing to be mentioned that there is no instability of ankle I can walk even run but after the muscles becomes cool starts its pain looking forward for your kind instructions.
I’m sorry to hear of your troubles my friend… I suppose that if you now have an idea of what is going on it puts you in a better position to be able to try physiotherapy and improve the condition of your ankle to cope with your sport. Wish you all the best! 🙏🏼
@@ClinicalPhysio Thank you soo much for positive instruction it give me more energy to treat it well and get ride of this problem as soon as possible because of different assessments of doctors I am completely disappointed and don't know what to do.
@@WTF7281 🙏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Fractured lateral malleolus and ligament detached from bone and took bone with it. 7 weeks in still no weight on foot and grinding, sharpe pain up fibula and top of ankle as I lift toes or pivot. MRI booked. Not fun 😢
Şimdi nasılsın?
4 months on and still struggling with swelling and pain. Continue with physiotherapy. Thank you for asking!
Umarım daha iyi olursun
How r you now? Same case of my husband
what is weird is that my doctor said i have a serious tear, my foot is completely swollen filled with liquid up until my toes, and i feel zero pain. can stand over my foot, and i feel nothing.
granted im not trying to do full range motion stuff because my brain still protects it but, i feel zzero disconfort.
go figure... this was 3 days ago btw
Wishing you all the best
What can do to treat if I had this for 7 months and hasn't completely healed? My anked hurts when it moves inwards.
Same here i m 9 months post surgery. The swelling and pain if i move inversion and eversion still there. It suckkks
strengthen it with elastic bands and balance exercises
Mountain biker here. This is a common one for us too unfortunately 😅
Any advice you can give?
Doctor i have deep xut 6 inch in my foot and clunites fixter and foot fixture and soweling who to xour
Wishing you all the best in your recovery
@@ClinicalPhysioman said “I can’t help you”
Is it normal that you heard a cracked sound when it happened? I recently sprained my ankle this 21st of march it's still a bit big. Idk what happened that's why im here searching for videos how to reduce pain and stuff.
Hi! I would always suggest seeing a Dr or physio properly for this so you can get officially assessed
*puts weight in my ankle hurts like hell* hmm yeah Ima wait till it hurts a little less. I'll start putting pressure when it doesn't feel like hell lol im still within the first 12 hours
Good idea! Wishing you all the best
I didn't use ice at all.
I kept asking the emergency room docs about this shit and they gave me all the wrong answers. Literally every wrong answer. If was funny that they were frustratedd with me but I honestly wanted to cuss them out. Like hey I have a literal ankle Sprain I need an MRI to establish how injured my tendons are. 4 hours later they did all kinda of other shit except an MRI just gave me an ace bandage and crutches and charged me 4500 lolol
Hope you are doing ok now
My Mri report
1. Mild joint effusion noted in ankle joint.
2. Mild edema noted along posterior talo fibular ligament with surrounding fluid - possibility of sprain
likely.
3. Mild tenosynovitis noted along parioneal tendon.
WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS REPORT
PLZ REPLY ..
Who referred you for an MRI scan? Please review the results with them so you can plan your next steps if you need them

But sweet on both side of ankle

3 years in and yet again no help from this video either.
3 years in? huh?
@deborahraaen Hi ! I sprained my ankle 2.5 weeks ago pretty bad, high sprain , luckily nothing was ruptured (Achilles) just a bad sprain, took work off and did the stretching elevation religiously for pass 2 weeks, added soaking in warm bucket off water after 1 week, iced for first 2-3days for swelling purposes. Now mixing it up with warm soaking MORE than ice because it heals quicker. Swelling has gone done drastically basically gone but ankle & Achilles is stiff so now stretching exercises, limping to make sure not to hurt it ( super cautious). I bought a topical cream call PRO & it’s unbelievable especially after day 2 ! It contains lidocaine & Phenol, you can get it at CVS , please try it if your ankle is still hurting ! I was kinda reluctant because I don’t think anything works 😂 but I’m super glad I tried it, tell me what you think ! Hope you feel better 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽😎😎😎😎😎😎
@@bustamante-music It means that it’s 3 years (now even longer) since I sprained my ankle. Falling down the stairs actually. None of these videos of what to do helps. I’ve tried it all.
@@bobbymcclain3634 Thanks for taking the time to try to help, but I live in Norway and that cream isn’t available here. Also as I understand it Lidocaine is a topical numbing agent as I understand it, which means it is a form of pain killer and I don’t think thatcwould be helpful in the long term. Wish you all the best with your own injury.
I also fall down from stairs almost 3 months ago, 22nd January. Visited 3 doctors. No improvement. I don't know what to do now.
Great man
Thank you so much!
