Fallout 4 Coastal Cottage No Mods Settlement Build Tour. Village, Rest Stop and Radio Base 2023

- Rated as one of the toughest places to build by many players, I knew I had my work cut out on this one.
In this no-mods playthrough build I've tried to come up with a scrappy lore-friendly settlement that looks like it has some history to it. Did I manage it? I'll let you tell me in the comments below.

Thanks, Conway! It is a strange location. Having the buildings on the cliff edge has really grown on me. I'm doing something similar right now at Kingsport Lighthouse.
@@FalloutPBC I once did a "spaceship" at the lighthouse. Was really hoping for dirigible but just didn't have the components that I felt would work so opted for something more futuristic.
@@ConwayBrew I love your spaceship build it's awesome. It was such a clever idea to use the Lighthouse as a docking port for an aircraft, I just wouldn't have thought of that!
Coastal Cottage is such a drag to deal with. But! You went and made it a shining beacon on the hill. A sheer delight and amazement for curiosity seekers from near and far.

It's so annoying, I try to do a scrappy build like this and I hate it, then I watch this and you truly do such a superb job. Love the way your imagination works!
As for a suggestion I've got a few but one really stands out to me due to the challenge, and that place is hang man alley. I've always wanted to build there but never been able to make it work, it'd be awesome to see what you could come up with there 😁 thanks as always for the content!

Hangmans is always another tough one for sure!
There are so many strange restrictions and problems there. I have a rough plan for a build there and I'd like to get it built at some point. It's on the to do list.
Not to toot my own horn, but I'm really happy with my hangman's alley that I was able to build without any glitches (because I didn't know they existed). Maybe one day I'll make a video of it.
@@technicolorskies5432 likewise not to toot my own horn but taking inspiration from this channel, since I made this comment I started a survival mode save and made my main base in hangmans alley and boy oh boy I'm sooooo super proud of it. I wish there was a way for me to show Mr fallout play build collect to get his stamp of approval haha
This is amazing! My favourite parts of this settlement are the bar area, the entrance, the little bunker and the main entrance. I just love how you don't stick to always use the scrappy fence
Many Thanks! I confess I love the entrance to this one and how all the small buildings go up the hill and have a function. It's a tough space to use, so I'm really pleased with how that came out and will do that style more in the future.

Love your settlement building; the skill level is quite good but the theme is so well thought up and consistent throughout a given build. Think this and the show might be pushing me to fire the game back up and get building again.

It's always about the narrative for me. My builds are never for show they have to work for my character. It's mostly headcanon stuff so I'm always surprised how much people have enjoy them too.
You must get building again, but maybe wait till after the big update on the 25th.

I'm about 7 days real life days in my fallout 4 game play and I'm really into building settlements for the feeling it gives of actually helping the citizens of the commonwealth and I have been making it a point to build extensive settlements in all the places people usually avoid and coastal cottage is my next target after I finish county crossing.
I never would have built something so big here if it wasn't for a kind viewer sponsoring the video, but It was a fun challenge.
It's rare anyone requests the less popular locations but it's something I would like to do more in the future.
I love watching these videos to see how others have tackled these settlements; where we differ, where our ideas converge.
I also did the ramshackle outpost look along the sloping road, but have a massive structure built primarily from the barn toolset where you have the concrete building. Yours is a fishing village & rest area for travelers. Mine is a Commonwealth welcome center & Ft. Rook, a Minuteman outpost which serves as First Auxiliary to the Salem Volunteer Militia.
Yeah, I like the old curmudgeons in the game like Barney Rook & Old Longfellow.
Turns out you can build several stories up from the highest elevation, easily making this one of the most interesting places to build.

I gotta say, this is the most impressive Costal Cottage I think I've seen. It's thematic, practical, and looks just as dilapidated as when it's first found. We all have our own way of doing and playing the game. My motto has always been mod it 'til it breaks, it's why I purchased a gaming computer and the base game mechanics give me high blood pressure... So does building at Costal Cottage. You should be proud of this one.

The couple of times I have even attempted Coastal I have really struggled with it. In one the RR wanted me to build a device for getting to the Institute (trying to avoid spoilers here), which necessitated building quite a sizable structure. So that was fun. This is a great build and gives me some ideas for this location, and also a couple of others where slopes are involved (Graygarden Oberland etc).

As you say there are a lot of locations with difficult slopes. I've taken to using small buildings a lot. I'm doing something a bit like this on the slopes at Somerville at the moment.

I only ever built here once and that save had so many mods installed, it was a synth re identification settlement, run away synth got thier memories wiped and new identities assigned in a secret room i built in that damn hole in the center, i made it look really good but that was an old save

Not sure if you mention it in the video, but MAN I spent so long trying to post-glitch a ceiling in the garage before I realized those stupid chains that hold the scrappable boat don't let you place anything there, even with the post or stairs glitch.
Yeah that boat shed is a pain to work around.

I don't really care where you do it but id love to see build using some of those metal cylinders for buildings, i tried doing a similar style and it worked pretty well when i tried it as a sort of off shoot settlement in Abernathy farm but i wanna see what someone skilled can do with them

@@lunartree9922 Oh right yes the aeroplane pieces, I like them but they can be tricky to use. I do have two other builds that use them quite a lot. One of them is a big Boston airport build. I hope to get that one up later in the year.

About 4:50 you got into the armory you built in the hole. You have the mininuke cases in there, what is that from?
They are from the "Settlement Ambush Kit" from Creation Club. It's one of the better CC packs. You get some cool build items like big defence walls and a tower that snaps, sandbags, working security cameras and monitors and it adds a fun stettlement attack mini-game.

Never understood the logic behind some of the settlement choices. there are fully intact houses, no, lets settle at the house with 3 blown out walls and no ceiling.
Yeah there are some very strange choices.
What program do you use to record and edit the game, cause I want to do my version but am unsure as to where to start?
I still don't have any special equipment.
I record the gameplay natively on Xbox. You have to record to an external drive which can be a pain to set up.
All my editing is done on a very old Mac Pro ( 2011 ) and mostly with the software you get with a Mac. Most of my editing is still done on iMovie! All my graphics are made in Keynote. Sound is recorded in Voice Memos. My microphone is a fairly cheap Boya.
I always said I'd put any money the channel makes into getting better equipment. The truth is the tiny amount of money the channel generates doesn't even cover the cost of the electricity it takes to edit the videos!
TH-cam is difficult, very costly and extremely time-consuming.
That said I'd love to see more people creating Fallout content. So if you do decide to give it a go I wish you the very best of luck and feel free to let me know how it goes.

My first thought was it's part of the warehouse pack. I checked in game but in the build menu, it doesn't have a DLC logo so I don't think it was part of any of the DLCs. I then also thought it could be from CC content. I checked with my friends at the Fallout Wiki.
The page for the Settlement Ambush Kit didn't list it. fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Settlement_Ambush_Kit#Settlement_objects
They do list the door as a base game item so I went will their info.

Where do the green barricade guard posts come from?
They are part of the Vault Tec workshop DLC but you have to hit level 20 to unlock them.
It adds quite a lot of items to the workshop. It's all listed here in the Wiki

@@FalloutPBC Ah, thanks. I guess I have yet to get around to even going and checking out Vault 88 or Nuka-World for that matter. I've had all the DLC forever, but end up restarting ever time I come back to the game.

Where do you get the placed computer terminals?
The big server-type units were from the Vault tec DLC I believe.
The computers with the neon around them are from the Neon Noir CC pack, I think.
Do you upload your builds as mods on Nexusmod?
No, but I get a lot of requests for it. Hopefully, I'll have the equipment to offer that in the future.

magnificent construction, terrible decoration
The minimal decoration is very much intentional. As I said in the video I HATE decoration in builds from a lore standpoint. I can't stand seeing builds with food, junk, tools and weapons everywhere, it's just silly to me. To me, the last thing you would do in a brutal world, where you can be attacked at any second is leave what little things you have just lying around all over the place.
Plus as I also said in the commentary this is intended to be temporary residence. People rent the rooms and move on.
Bottom line - If I wanted it decorated it would have been.
