Been using minox 10% for 3 years and my heart rate and anxiety went up so gradually that i didn't even notice my quality of life and happiness had degraded to the point i was miserable. I've stopped it now and feel so much better. My anxiety was terrible in the day time
I've been taking minoxidil twice a day for 4 months and my heart rate has increased. I was worried and went to the doctor. Then someone told me minoxidil can cause increased heart rate, and that makes perfect sense. Unsure what to do now? Stop altogether, or decrease to once per day?
I get horrible sides from it. Some slight chest tightness that was intermittent but the worst was dark circles under my eyes that made me look like a sick raccoon. I have tried oral, foam, and liquid in different strengths. They all gave me the same sides. It makes my face retain water and look way older. Hate the stuff!
12 days after applying foam minoxidil on the scalp I felt heart palpitations and tracked my heart rate at almost 180 bpm. Had to stop, so sad I can’t take it
Thank to share this video so my heart was rescue. I got tachycardia from minoxidil for eight months without knowing this shit has 😢such scary side effect!!!
I felt chest pain and very fast heart beat after only 10 days of usage while carrying my groceries It was the first time in my life I ever felt that and I have a good cardio (been hitting the gym for years x3 times a week with cardio in each session) Don't want to be that fearmongering guy, but be careful guys and watch your health carefully when trying out a new drug
fin did the same thing to me. spiked my adrenaline and made me feel like i was about to have a heart attack (but adrenaline palpitations aren't dangerous, apparently?). i'm curious if i'll have more luck with min.
I must say I have had some pretty intense side effects from minoxidil. Which is annoying because it can be so effective at stimulating hair growth. Especially when used in conjunction with micro needling. I tried oral loniten (oral minoxidil) and had to immediately come off after 1 week. I noticed immediately dizziness/light headedness which is very serious. The problem with this drug is that it was designed to lower blood pressure. If you are young, healthy and have no abnormal blood pressure issues taking a drug like minoxidil systemically I think is extremely dangerous. Even when I use topical minoxidil I can’t use anymore than 1/2 a cup per day because any more than that the dizziness and light headedness returns. Scary stuff considering topical minoxidil is over the counter here in the UK 🇬🇧
@@pepthelad your facial skin will be destroyed by lack of collagen in a few months/years and you might even start developing pseudoacromegaly from the high doses
Hey Matt, this is an extremely important video. These 2 studies that you mentioned in the video, I've been referencing for a while when I'm discussing minoxidil with people. I personally have severe, life-threatening side effects from topical minoxidil, i.e. severe tachycardia, palpitations and almost had a heart attack. I've been admitted to the ICU multiple times just because of topical minoxidil. And I have 0 pre-existing heart problems. I've done excessive testing, ECGs, Echocardiograms, blood tests, etc. Also, my resting heart rate is 50-60, I'm an athlete. For me, the problem seems to be simply that topical minoxidil goes systemic to a much higher degree than normal due to an unknown variable. I suspect that my scalp skin porosity is greater than normal, hence the amplified serum leakage. But topical minoxidil definitely goes systemic for everyone, just to a different degree. That's because of its low molecular weight of 209.25 g/mol and its log p value of 1.24. It's impossible to not go systemic. However, topical minoxidil (unlike oral) skips 1st pass liver metabolism, hence it's metabolised differently than oral. Because 90% of oral minox is metabolised in the liver due to the high presence of SULT1. So the pharmacokinetics of the drug differ depending on the administration method and the metabolites (by-products) are not identical. I personally cannot recommend minoxidil to anyone due to my personal anecdote. I just can't have that on my conscience. But if you are going to use it, I suggest using it only in the morning, not at night (before bed). And drinking a ton of water during the day (which you should be doing anyway). By drinking more water than normal, you increase your stroke volume (which lowers your heart rate) and you increase the renal clearance of minoxidil which is about 73.9ml/min. Good luck!
Been using topical minoxidil 5% for 11 years once a day (at night before bed) with zero problem whatsoever ! (I did heart check etc etc...) I literally have zero problem. My heart is super healthy actually. I started minoxidil at 20 and I'm now 31 by the way. I think you are unfortunately in the minority ti experience side effects on minoxidil. You should not do some fear mongering like soooo many people do with finasteride. Ps : I also use finasteride with zero problem as well.
@@exactly1176 Good for you. You don't understand the meaning of the word fear-mongering. I'm simply presenting my anecdote and mentioned that I'm an outlier, hence the side effects. Your knee-jerk reply defending minoxidil was to be expected. I can tell that you don't have a scientific background because the moment you hear something which goes against your worldview, you retaliate. People need to know all parts of the minoxidil side-effect frequency distribution. I'm in the 1-2 percentile, and you are in the 50-70 percentile. I even gave you science-backed advice on how to minimise the systemic effects of minoxidil. So stop copying and pasting your comment full of grammar errors everywhere and read what's being said, you might learn something.
When I was a teen I tried minoxidil for the first time, I didnt even have internet yet, so I knew nothing about it. I tried it and when I went to bed my heart began beating very hard that I could listen to it on my pillow, I had to go to the hospital and it took hours for it to normalize. There the doctors asked me what I was using and they told me its on side effects of minoxidil. I did not even know that, I had no clue it was because of it.
@@exactly1176 You are there invoking the pseudo « fear mongering » thing around Finasteride when we actually NEED more awareness around this drug since young guys still get fuck and don’t understand why they weren’t told. I hate guys like you who are just spreading obscurantist shit on serious medical topics. AMA I myself have Post-Finasteride Syndrome, thought it was « fear-mongering » before it happened to me. It’s more common than we think because even today people have no idea of the vastness of PFS symptomatology.
Another Great video. I have been on finasteride for over 13 years. I used minoxidil at 5% 10% and 15% on an off for many years. Here are some of the things I noticed: 1. It caused me multiple sheds even when on it for years 2. Itching on the application area (liquid in only not foam) 3. Lightheaded at higher concentrations 4 Increased body hair 5. Eye twitching (this is more prevalent when microneedling or using with tretinoin) 6. Head pressure that fogs the brain.
Well... of course if you use minoxidil " on and off " for many years = you will get plenty of shedding ... 🤦♂️ ... Minoxidil has to be used everyday without any days off ! Of course if sometimes to stop minoxidil and then come back on it ans then stop again etc... of course it's gonna be a mess ... lol
@@exactly1176Read the comment...."multiple sheds even when on it for years". I used it for 3 years straight (twice a day) and had continued excessive shedding and regrowth with no net gain. It happened so frequently that it became unsustainable. The shedding phase is only supposed to last for the first 4 months. I then tried it again for another 20 months same thing. Third attempt was for 1 year. It is a poor drug for hairloss. It just stimulates growth and doesn't solve the root cause of the problem. My hair is fine with finasteride alone.
@@davidomeara4704 to be perfectly honest with you : I've never had this " shedding problem " with minoxidil. And I used minox alone for 7 years before adding finasteride to my hairloss regiment. And minox by itself stopped my hairloss all that time (even though I started balding at 18) so I for a pretty aggressive hairloss. I guess it depends on people. I don't consider minoxidil as a poor drug in my case. But of course I had to add finasteride anyway, I had no choice cause my hairloss got more agressive as I aged. That said : minox + finasteride combined did miracle to me ! My hairloss has been totally stable again for years while using both. So we've got 2 completely different stories right here. Ps : no heart issues with topical minox in 11 years of use. Checked my heart recently and its as healthy as 11 years ago

I’m been using it over 6mos my hair grew but now my heart skips a beat. Is irregular, beats fast, and I can feel it in my throat . I’ve never had any heart issues.

I had tachycardia attacks after minoxidil5% topical usage. In about eight months I had been suffering many unknown high speed heart rate over 150 each time. Finally I realized minoxidil was major cause. It was very scary and dangerous when tachycardia attack started. I was almost passed out and I was sent to ER twice. Basically if your heart racing too fast then eventually heart would fail. It can kill you immediately. I stopped this shitty drug for a while. I do not know how much minoxidil remaining still retained in my system. But take a good sleep and drink lots water and apple juice. Hopefully I could save my life myself! Again I will never touch this shit in my life.😢
I ended up here because I just had another tachycardia. I eat very well and do exercise frequently, I am also young (30). I've been having them for a long time. I thought it was stress what was causing it. But these days I feel very relaxed and yet I got another one, so I just thought that maybe Minoxidil was the cause and found this video. I see it now makes a lot of sense. I know it is a very hard decision but I am going to stop using it. I feel too scared when I get them. I already quit finasteride because I felt too depressed and could immediately feel more energic after it. I wish I didn't get any side effects!
@@yanisgr2637 Hey, thanks for asking. The heart issues actually stopped, I have had no tachycardia since I stopped. And I've been under a lot of stress, so I can definitely say that minox had an impact on my heart. I lost some hair but I am starting to use rosemary oil and it seems to work pretty well so far. I hope this helps!
Heart rate hasn't increased since I started 5% topical foam about 7 months ago. The stuff works, but I do feel that I never quite apply it as well as it should be applied. It is hard to get into the scalp most times, but not hard at the front, where I have seen the most success so far. The only things I have noticed are increased saliva production and (maybe) a bit of ED. I am guessing any sexual issues are mainly physiological, as in, the scalp pulls in more blood to feed the follicles due to the Minoxidil. It can definitely stop balding, and in a lot of cases, bring back more hair, but it has downsides as well. The video makes a good case I suppose. Gonna research a bit more. A hair transplant will never work if a person lost their hair and were unable to solve the issue with Fin+Minox, or just one or the other. The conditions that created the hair loss are still there and need more study before a person gets a transplant. It won't take!
Hmm now I am wondering if I should drop minox. I have been on fin 1mg/day and minox one time a day for like 10 months. I have noticed a lot of improvement, though I started them close to the same time so I am not sure if fin or min is more responsible. No side effects with either but I would never want to risk my cardiovascular health, hence why i never took oral minox. Never microneedled and dont plan on it. Maybe I should just drop minox altogether since it is kind of a pain in the ass anyway.
The thing is that minox + finasteride > finasteride alone. You just got to understand that. But if you wanna quit minox, it's perfectly fine (you might lose lots of ground though ....) . If I were you I would not take this video too seriously cause what he says about topical minoxidil being almost as dangerous as oral minoxidil is a pure lie. Cause topical finasteride do not transform into minoxidil sulfate (cause it doesn't get metabolized into the liver like oral minox does). What is dangerous for you heart is minoxidil sulfate (the potent version of minoxidil) not minoxidil itself. Topical minoxidil is known to be very safe. I just see fear mongering in that video to be honest. Before you drop minoxidil, i would advice you to check out HairCafe's videos on both oral and topical minoxidil.
@@exactly1176 I’m a fan of Kevin and that’s why I have been using topical min instead of oral. I am a bit OCD/hypochondriac so that’s why I commented that. I’m looking to get a HT soon as really just my frontal third sucks, mid scalp and crown have been more or less fixed by the meds. It would be nice to be able to drop min for convenience sake but yeah I also obviously don’t want to lose a lot of ground. I will stay on fin indefinitely.
@@user-vw5jk9cs8r well.. here is the thing : You've been using minox for only 10 months so I would be okay to drop it I think. But just let you know that if you drop it, you might lose some ground and you won't get that ground back. Cause finasteride + minoxidil > finasteride alone. All the gain you got in 10 months was because you used the best of both world at the same time. Know what I mean ? So of course, if you drop minox, you will certainly lose a bit of ground and maintain a bit less hair during the next 20 years than if you keep going on both drugs at the same time for next 20 years or so. That said, your situation is not like mine at all. For example if I drop minoxidil after 11 years of use ... well ... that would be a disaster.. I would lose a lot of ground, like crazy and I would feel like an idiot . But you started minox only 10 months ago so that's okay for you. You will get a hit but not a big hit like I would. So it's up to you.
@@user-vw5jk9cs8r ps : do you use minox once or twice a day ? If you use it twice a day : I advice you to go for only once a day (it's enough and not as annoying to put as twice a day). I had sides from it, a twinge pain in my heart almost immediately. Tried it twice with different brands and the same thing. Plenty alternatives now to minoxidil.
@@vincewarren1271 rosemary oil is nowhere near an alternative, at best it might be comparable to only 2% minoxidil and only if you apply 20ml twice a day, which is how much was used in that famous study.
I take a beta blocker to help that. Finasteride can do the samething! You can use a scalp massager instead of micro needling and get it into the scalp and not in the bloodstream.
Matt, my first hair transplant didn’t go out as planned and the clinic stated they gave me 4,200 grafts, which I am not convinced they did, 2nd, I recently got my 2nd hair transplant and 1 month into my hair transplant I put slight pressure and facilitated in removing the transplanted hair by combing my hair downwards, now I see empty spot where my transplant hairs were. I tried using minoxidil after 4 months of trying redensyl knowing it'll definitely give results but its a lifelong commitment with sone sides. I got heart palpitations after 3 days. I figured it must be due to minoxidil and i stopped. The palpitations lasted for the month but slowly went back to around normal. Then i thought it must be mind plsying games on me because i read about the all type of sides beforehand and most prominent was palpitations. I gave it time and started minoxidil again after 1 month, this time i calmed my mind about the placebo games so that the my stupid brain wont involve in this again. But....But after 4th day i got palpitations and followed by tightness in chest like cement solided on me. I completely stopped it. I myself other than being lazy entire day, i workout everyday with cardio and weights.(Not powerlifting just 20kg max). I family has baldness in genes but no health problems. No more minoxidil for me. I'm not willing to damage the heart for hair. Just 3 days use, symptoms lasted 3 to 4 months. I'll be continuing redensyl from now.👍🏻

Hows your resting heart rate? You've been using minoxidil for years? Would be really informative if you could somehow contact many of your clients to report if their average combined heart rate is higher then normal. hanks a lot for the info!
Personally, I stopped Minoxidil long time ago. I used it a lot before my 1st hair transplant. Then I decided to go with Finasteride instead. Last 2.5 years I have been taking Finasteride without minoxidil. Back when I used Minoxidil I was in my early 20s, and very active so I don't think I would have noticed any issues with my resting heart rate. Hello there, I'm looking for any advice from other Minoxidil users. I recently started the Hims topical Fin+Min combo I'm only 8 days in but I think I had the onset of a chest infection coming on at the same time, It seems to be going around the UK atm. The side effects from Minoxidil which I do feel I am experiencing actually also similar to the symptoms whilst dealing with a chest infection, so I'm slightly worried/ confused on what to do right now regarding continuing the topical. The last 2 nights my symptoms have been almost like sleep apnea like which I don't suffer with, or restrictive breathing when I try to sleep. As I'm on the cusp of falling asleep I immediately gasp for air in a panic this happened throughout the whole night. I wouldn't say heart palpitations. I did try propping my pillows up made no difference. So, I'm wondering if perhaps the twice daily of the 5% Minoxidil is too much for me ? and whether i should adjust to one application a day " morning" or using my common sense lol and stopping it altogether until my chest has cleared and the antibiotics I am currently on have finished " 4 days worth". Any info would be much appreciated.

Great video Matt. One thing that has to be mentioned though, topical Min that gets absorbed systemically is not the same as Min taken orally. This is because oral Min is mostly metabolized by the liver then hits the blood stream. Whereas, topical Min that goes systemic hits the blood stream immediately. This is closer to injecting. This matters because the pharmacokinetics will change drastically between the two methods of administration, where, if enough topical Min goes systemic, the onset of effects is much faster than oral Min that is metabolized by the liver.
Correct Luka. Forgot to mention that. That's why I feel like more people should be aware of this (especially the long-term micro-needling and Minoxidil users).

Here are some of the things I noticed:
1. It caused me multiple sheds even when on it for years
2. Itching on the application area (liquid in only not foam)
3. Lightheaded at higher concentrations
4 Increased body hair
5. Eye twitching (this is more prevalent when microneedling or using with tretinoin)
@@davidomeara4704 to be perfectly honest with you :
I've never had this " shedding problem " with minoxidil.

Do whatever you want but I can tell you that i've got zero heart issues and i've been using minox for 11 years already.
Ps : I also use finasteride.

It would be nice to be able to drop min for convenience sake but yeah I also obviously don’t want to lose a lot of ground. I will stay on fin indefinitely.
@@user-vw5jk9cs8r well.. here is the thing :
You've been using minox for only 10 months so I would be okay to drop it I think.

I got huge gains of minox and I lost most of them but stemox gave me also a lot of hair back. I am still Norwood 1 maaaybe 2 and density is also okay. So yeah, I survived minox ditch and my hair looks almost the same. Maybe I'll try 2% minox this time if try it again dunno...
11 years on minox, zero problem. Checked my heart 11 years ago and last year. Same results, healthy heart.
This video is just fear mongering confusing oral and topical minoxidil... 🤦♂️ (without talking about the fact that minoxidil sulfate is the problem for the heart and it gets metabolized in the liver when you are on oral minoxidil. Topical minoxidil doesn't absorb in the body as minoxidil sulfate however so it's safe). I usually like Matt videos but this one is ... just not scientifically accurate. Topical minoxidil is known to be very safe (unlike oral minox).
@@exactly1176 ohhh, I've always use topic minox. It's been doing a great job, I don't remember to feel so good about my hair, without that preoccupation of always try to hide the baldness.
@@Taptapfail I'm glad to hear that everything end up well. But if you want to change anything in your treatment go to the doctor man.
@@PedroSilva-yv3oo that's cool mate ! Do you also use finasteride ?
Can you use both oral minoxidil and oral finasteride?
yes
Yes but oral minoxidil is not safe. Better use topical minoxidil
@@exactly1176 Topical minoxidil is no safer
@@bartbollen8166 scientifically speaking what you are saying is 100% wrong.
Don't believe me ? Just go to watch both topical minoxidil and oral minoxidil Videos on " HairCafe's " TH-cam channel. This man is giving statistically significant scientific studies unlike Matt Dominance who said some none sense without any serious studies about both topical and oral minoxidil.
@@bartbollen8166 then come back to me and say : " sorry I made a mistake " .
Thanks me later 👍
I like first second of your video only 😍 the only truth in your videos
I've been using topical minoxidil 5% once a day for 11 years already, checked my heart 12 years ago : no problem.
Checked my heart 1 month ago = no problem.
Topical minoxidil is super safe.
If anybody is stressed about topical minoxidil, then just use it once a day (and no need to go for a double dose once a day). Once a day is more than enough 👍
Ps : i don't do any microneedling / don't use tetrinoine. I do believe that this way you might get side effects. I just use minoxidil by itself and that's all (along with 1mg oral finasteride everyday). No need to make it over complicated imo
What shampoo u use?
@@iamnoone78647 I use 2 shampoo :
- La Roche-Posay Kerium doux extrême (french shampoo) everyday.
- head and shoulders (anti dandruff shampoo) twice a week.
Why do i shed frequently when on minoxidl even after 2 yrs of udmsage bro? Does that happn to u?
@@iamnoone78647 are you also on finasteride? Or just on minoxidil alone ?
@@exactly1176 2 yrs on minoxidil but still losing ground , been on fin for a month now
Minoxidil, at least in my case, is poison
Like finasteride, dutasteride and ru58841. I can’t use nothing lol, even topically finasteride and dutasteride give me some sides
Not at all. Not when you use it topically.
@@exactly1176 lol, in my case, even 2% minoxidil gives me tiredness, palpitations, tachycardia, eye floaters, eye pain, dry eyes ecc.
Good for you if u have no sides, I’ m jealous

I found an excellent adjunct treatment/ hair thickener. For those guys who use minoxidil and are only getting new miniaturized hairs that don't seem to get any longer thicker I found this treatment I had laying around that I stopped using when I started the finasteride and oral minoxidil . It's redensyl .it seems to help those miniaturized hairs grow out thicker and faster than the minoxidil would have eventually done
