Best line from this movie had to be Channard post-Cenobite metamorphosis - "And to think... I hesitated."
Shame that after his transformation he goes full Nightmares 4-6 Freddy Krueger with bad jokes and puns about him being a doctor. Pinhead was created to be intelligent and cultured like Hannibal Lecter and different from corny jokesters like later Freddy and silent killers like Michael and Jason. But in only the 2nd film Channard, a character Pinhead is the opposite of was brought in then in 3 Pinhead himself starts cracking jokes.

My favorite is Julia’s line, spit at Kirstie with such perfect vocal venom: “So come on-take your best shot, Snow White”. Loveee that line.
pinhead's introduction has one of my favourite quotes ever. "no... it is not hands that called us. it is.... desire!" :-D
As he says in Part 3, Hell has its commandments too you know.
In Cabin in the Woods, when the two survivors are in the glass cage and the girl sees the Pinhead knockoff, holding his own puzzle, _that_ is when she realized, they had chosen what kind of monster would kill them. Because "it is not hands that call us."
My favorite line is Tiffany’s first line ever being “Oh, sh*t” and look on Kirsty’s face when she says it.
Some quick info regarding the beginning: Pinhead’s original human self was a World War I veteran, and he was in one of the old-style barracks. You’ll find out more on him in Hellraiser III Hell on Earth. And other supplementary material.
Another fun fact: I saw the Pinhead origin, the skinless man writing the bloody message, and Julia coming out of the mattress and later Mummy Julia dancing with Channard when I was 5 in a dark room at night. And since then, I have never been able to solve a Rubic’s cube.

Fun fact: Clive Barker hates everything after the second film and does not consider the other films to be canon. Choosing instead to continue the true story he wanted to tell in a comic book series which is much better in all respects.

The Female Cenobite used to be a masochistic Nun called Sister Nikoletta who was given the box by a man and from there she became the High Priestess of Hell.
Pinhead was a World War 1 Captain named Elliott Spencer. He became The Hell Priest.
There are comic books and some novels out there that probably dig in a bit more into the Cenobites backstories
The actor playing the assistant, William Hope, played 2nd Lieutenant Gorman in Aliens. This was followed by a multitude of sequels and some reboots
he was also in the 1st sherlock holmes movie with Robert downey jr , he played the American delegate who was killed by the main bad guy after his clothes were sprayed by what he thought was rain water but was actually gas so when he fired his gun the sparks set him on fire

Also the doctor is Kenneth Cranham. He was Pompey Magnus in HBO's Rome.

Fun Fact: Browning(the mental patient who cuts himself with the straight razor, because he thinks there are creepy-crawlies on him) is played by Oliver Smith. Smith also plays Skinless Frank in both this movie & the first one.
'The Blob' (1988) would be a fun reaction. Solid plot, gnarly practical effects, and some of the most creative creature kills ever in a horror movie.

One of the few horror sequels that works and expands on the original, to great effect. I remember seeing this 2 times in the theater with my friends from work in high school. Blood soaked, creepy and unapologetic. They don't make them like this anymore.
The effects were awesome but I felt like it really butchered everything the first one laid down story wise. Yes it tried to expand on it but it got really muddled.

I think you guys missed the part where Tiffany first spoke. When she first saw the Chanard Cenobyte, she finally spoke her first words. And the words were “Ohhh Shit”. Haha without a doubt the funniest part in the movie.

There's a comic book series co-written by Clive Barker himself and published by Boom! Studios that continues the story some years after the events of this movie. In that series it's revealed that there are multiple Hells, one for each of the seven deadly sins. The Labyrinth is where people who overindulged in carnal desires end up.
So Dantes Inferno then.
I REALLY enjoyed this sequel, weirdly enough. Loved the 1st, and thoroughly enjoyed this one. Can't wait for this reaction 👍👍
This is one of my favorite horror movies. When this was released in '88, I purchased a Hellraiser Configuration Box (and I didn't try to solve it, lol). You can still purchase one today via eBay and Etsy.

I remember renting this on VHS on the way home from HS back in the day. I'd liked the first one so I was anxious to check it out. I sat down, with a Coke and a Snickers, and started watching it. The mattress scene almost made me lose my snackage. It was brutal. Hellraiser is now one of my favorite franchises. I'm still a little iffy on Snickers and Coke, though. Great reaction!!

Iirc originally it was going to be Julia comming out of the mattress at the end, with the plan being her basically taking over Pinhead's role. But Clare Higgins didn't want to get stuck in just that role so it was changed last minute so the studio could still have an opening for a sequel with Pinhead instead.
"skinless Julia" would be a great Halloween costume
I'm actually sad that Pinhead got so popular they had to change the ending of the second film. Really wish to see where the franchise had gone if Julia became the new villain as it was originally planned.

The author of the source material, Clive Barker, has some very cool books worth reading.
This my favorite in the "Hellraiser" series, and it's probably in my top 20 horror movies of all time. This first movie was a bit slow, until the last act.

The baddie Cenobite from this movie doesn’t really get a nickname (like Pinhead or Chatterer); he’s commonly referred to by fans as Doctor Cenobite or simply Channard Cenobite.
The new Hellraiser is supposed to have a woman as Pinhead, which is what the novella originally implied (while it says the cenobites are genderless, the voice of the pinheaded cenobite in the novel has the voice of a “breathy, excited girl”).

Which makes one wonder why Clive Barker didn't go with a more feminine Pinhead in the first two films, since he wrote both them and the book. Perhaps Doug Bradley's performance made him rethink his original concept of what Pinhead should look and sound like, or maybe he just couldn't find an actress that was A. Interested in playing that sort of character or B. Capable of carrying the role. Either way, I suppose it worked out for the best, since Bradley's deep, almost demonic voice is a big part of why the character works.
@@DovahFettThe Female Cenobite proves that. Grace Kirby, Clive Barker's cousin, wanted nothing to do with Hellraiser after she played her in the first film, hence the recast here. Apparently she was so uncomfortable in that costume and hated seeing herself like that, to where she treats it as a personal trauma to this day...
4: bloodlines is technically the end of the main storyline, and explains the origin of the puzzle box. Every other one is mostly a standalone story, except the 6th one does have a story moment that harks back to the first 2.
25:50 : The Doctor get transformed to a Cenobite but he has his free will and all the knowledge. That's why he said " ". But the God Leviathan didn't want him to be free. The tail we saw gonna make a "milkshake" of his brain like the doctor did to his patient. And at this moment, he was controled by Leviathan.
This is one of my favorite horror movies and favorite horror movie orchestral score.
This movies a dang extravaganza. Cannot believe it was even made.
I love how the adventure aspect of it. Forget the main actress but she really commands the story. A lot like the Nightmare on Elm Street girl. She sees the problems and takes steps to fix it.
Some of the great matte paintings ever. I love when they used to draw on the film for effects.
And I can't help with laugh whenever I see the cenobite with the sunglasses. That design is so hilarious. This movie's scares are almost like gags, sorta like Evil Dead 2.
Must have been gratifying and fun to create all this crazy stuff.
“A Xenomorph.”-Aliens
Personally i think the Mrs's idea about the doctor having a blood connection to Pinhead should have been a part of the story. That would connect him to the main plot a lot better imo
The only thing that links them together is their desires for twisted forms of pleasure. Pain is pleasure to them so the sex makes more sense when you just see it as them constantly seeking pleasure in whatever form they can find it.

You didn't show one of my favorite parts in the movie, when Tiffany first sees the doctor transformed, after years of not speaking, the first words out of her mouth, "OH SHIT". These movies are weird, but in a strange way, they make perfect sense. The first three hellraisers are the big three to watch, four is alright, anything after, forget about it.

The whole thing with Hellraiser is sadomasochism. Pain is pleasure, and what is a painful hell to others is a masochist paradise to cenobites. They look for other twisted souls that delight in pain to turn into more cenobites.
As a sadomasochist, I think the franchise captures this idea “just enough” but leaves plenty of room for more. Maybe the reboot next month will maintain this in a genuine way, but who knows.
Clive Barker hates the name "Pinhead" (he had no name in the original story) so maybe he would find "Needleface" more to his liking.

I think it's true Horror- Fantasy, because of the whole invitation to explore the hell dimension. Relates to most fantasy stories, but without children.

I love Hellbound, it has better quality than the first one...and based on its budget ( same goes for the original) the music is epic and gives it a grand atmosphere.
Also I really enjoyed watching you two react to Hellbound: Hellraiser II....some nice interactions between the two of you
25:23 Julia was originally gonna be the series's main villain and become queen of hell but Clare Higgins not wanting to come back after this and the popularity of the Cenobites changed that.
After _'Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth'_ you've got _'Hellraiser IV: Bloodlines'_ which actually _finishes_ the original *Hellraiser/Pinhead* storyline. Every other *Hellraiser* movie in the franchise, up to & including _'Hellraiser VIII: Hellworld',_ was actually a very different horror movie originally, that the studio just slapped a "Hellraiser" title on, and shoehorned *Pinhead* into, to save money. Movies 9 & 10, _'Hellraiser: Revelations'_ and _'Hellraiser: Judgement'_ were made solely do the studio could keep the rights, and are _not_ considered actual parts of the original timeline, by fans.
Luckily Clive Barker got the rights back, and we’ll soon be getting a rebooted _'Hellraiser',_ with actress *Jamie Clayton* as the new version of *Pinhead* & I cannot wait!

The girl's reaction to this movie is very real. The movie is very scary.
Out of all the Hellraiser sequels to follow, you can stop with the 4th one, Bloodlines. Everything afterward was never even meant to be Hellraiser movies; Pinhead was just crowbarred in last second.
Also, please check out 'Come and See' by Elem Klimov, or 'The Cranes Are Flying' by Mikhail Kalatazov. With Veterans Day coming soon, you guys deserve to check out more international anti-war films. They're both absolute classics.
They do that to keep the rights to the franchise and I hate it. It happens to a lot of franchise movies and it's an insult to the fans.
i do like the design of the cenobites in 5, but the story is all over the place, the wire twins the new chatterer.

The thing that I found a little disheartening was that Doctor Chennard dealt with the other Cenobites so handily. I would have expected more of a battle royale between them.
On the other hand, showing the Cenobites reverting to their human forms was satisfying... especially as Chatterer turned out to be a boy, leading to all kinds of unanswered questions.
You haven't watched any of the videos that explain the lore behind all the cenobites?
@p__kingg OH, yes... but long after seeing the movie. At the time, it horrified me. To quote Jim Butcher in one of the Dresden Files books, "Some people fall. Some are pushed." I wondered which applied to pre-Chatterer.

More of these ? 2 first are based on the Clive Barker book , rest were more or less done so studio would keep the rights , he did gain the US rights to Hellraiser back on December 19, 2021, includes rights to the underlying story and the script for the 1987 film. Best from rest is the one with Lance Henriksen , man killed in most movie series (Terminator , Alien , Predator and Hellraiser)
1 & 2 are both good. I absolutely love the soundtrack for 2. Has to be in my top 5 soundtracks of all time.

The Engineer was meant to be in this, an alternate scene of Tiffany reaching for the box/diamond and getting grabbed by the familiar elongated hand from the first film was in a trailer, as well as various shots of puppeteers operating a new head and hands over Julia's skin...

I was wondering why Kristy and Tiffany did not just run out of there and try to get as far away from the Channard Cenobite/Leviathan, Pinhead and the other Cenobites as they could during the showdown especially when Channard was easily killing all of the other cenobites? It was stupid of them to just stand there and wait for Channard to draw his attention to them before Pinhead gave them the hint to run off. I would be flooring it the moment Channard was turning them back into humans.

Hellraiser has never been a "matter of my heart" but Hellraiser 5: Inferno is really nightareish, dark, neo-noir, twisted horror story.
I’d love a reaction on the original I Spit on your Grave, Ms. 45, Gaspar Noe’s Irreversible, or the French film Revenge. Promising Young Woman which won an Oscar has quite a few shock moments too.

So far as I remember, nobody ever bothered to do anything with the other boxes when they were lore building in the sequels or in the reboot. That's kind of a shame. That was one of the cool details about Hellbound, but everybody just forgot about it. What do the other boxes do? Do they open up doors to dimensions other than the one Pinhead comes from, places with different monsters? I guess we'll never know.

The next one is called Hell on Earth its much more like a slasher movie with Pinhead having one-liners that try to make the series mainstream. The first 4 movies make up the main story of the series and are one continuous arc for Hellraiser and Pinhead.
The Cenobites are more like the GodHand from Berserk.
third movie "Hell on Earth" is also pretty good. has more lore in it too. 5th is ok, but the others isn't worth watching. 4th has a lot of back story if you want that. But the first 3 are by far the best.
Agree about the fourth movie, but it does have awesome lines from Pinhead. But yeah the first three are better.
Composer Christopher Young's best score and may have influenced Danny Elfman's Batman theme.
Wonder if the Ghostbusters II score was influenced by this a year later? The strings when Julia rises from the mattress and grabs Browning are *very* similar to the hand coming from the pink slime, the bath transforming into a blob monster, or the ghostly Janusz abducting baby Oscar from the ledge...

Someone cleaned his study after the Julia resurrection. It's the same room where Tiffany opens the box. Can't imagine it would be him or Julia. You'll ruin a few mops on that one. Love to explain it to a professional cleaner...🤣🤣
