One minor correction from the opening: Vincent Price wasn't in the original Thirteen Ghosts film, the main character was played by Donald Woods (it also featured Margaret Hamilton, the Wicked Witch of the West). I remember seeing this in theaters. 🤣 The black chick that played Maggie in the movie is Rah Diggah. She was a rapper who was a part of Busta Rhymes’ crew back then.
Speaking of Scooby-Doo they also have a Thirteen Ghost series. It's a Pandora's box plot were they released them by mistake & have to get them back. Stars Shaggy, Daphne, Scooby, Scrappy & some kid that tags along
I remember that I took a friend to see this at the movie theater when it came out in 2001. I love it today just like I Ioved it back then. I thought it was a very unique and interesting film and there's plenty of action to be had in this one. I picked Thi13en Ghosts up on blu-ray along with Dracula 2000 at a store a couple of years ago.
The frenetic editing on this film really hurts it a lot. Very much a product of the early 2000's. She really clued in on it fast too. Love Lillard in this though.

These puzzle boxes, or as they're called Pandorices are designed to open pathways into HELL, OR HEAVEN.... A darker version of the astronomical zodiac. 1 *The First Born Son* 2 *The Torso* 3 *The Bound Woman* 4 *The Withered Lover* 5 *The Pilgrimes* 6 *The Torn Prince* 7 *The Angry Princess* 8 *The Great Child* 9 *The Dire Mother* 10 *The Hammer 🔨* 11 *The Jackel* 12 *The Juggernaut* 13 *The Lost Soul*
I feel like the backstories for all the different ghosts in this movie are more interesting than the actual movie. There's so many origins that could've been short films by themselves. And it a shame because you never actually learn about the ghosts backstories in this movie. Their backstories are in the bonus features on the DVD.
Dark Castle started out as a studio to do fun, modernized remakes of the classic Castle horror movies. Castle was king of the gimmicks, and the glasses for 13 Ghosts were one such. I loved House on Haunted Hill, which I don't think you've done yet on your channel. It was creepy and fun at the same time, with a solid story. And Jeffrey Combs as a villain? Loved it. The next year was 13 Ghosts, and though a bit muddled at times, it was loads of fun too. Unfortunately they changed focus after that, and their next film, while a passable horror movie, was not a Castle remake. It was Ghost Ship, which while decent was nothing special. They continued to make original horror movies, and that I think was their downfall, because they lost focus on what the company was created to do. Another movie from a few years later that has the same vibe as HoHH or 13G - meaning a good horror movie that also has a lot of fun bits and humor in it - is a movie by James Gunn (later known for the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, the second Suicide Squad movie, and the Peacemaker TV show) called Slither. It stars Nathan Fillion of Firefly/Castle fame. I highly recommend both the House on Haunted Hill (1999) and Slither (2006).
The machine had an obvious flaw: it had multiple levers that would control it's movement. So, the ideal solution would be: a single lever that can be moved into only one way. Nobody would be able to fiddle with it then.
On the DVD they give origins for all 13 ghosts, it’s really interesting and creative stuff

*Latin chant starts,summoning the ghost*
Mrs.Movies goes wide eyed.
I’m so happy you guys reacted to this movie. I love this movie!! ❤
This and Ghost Ship are my favs
Love this film, only thing that jars is "poor family, reduced circumstances, still able to afford housekeeper".
2:50 - 2:56
The ironically about that there was Scooby-Doo single season spin-off show called *The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo* that aired back in 1985.
I totally forgot Tricky-‘Excess’ is in this movie, such a classic trip-hop song
Awww I thought Mr movies was ready to do another 'flying out of space' with manic hand dance at beginning lol
It actually doesn't have to be that hot to melt glass.
When you said that kid looks familiar, his name is michael spiedel. I went to school with him here in Burnaby BC and was good friends with his brother. He actually didnt pursue acting career after that
Matthew Lillard is in this. He becomes Shaggy (not only in the 2 movies but in several cartoons of Scooby Doo too) and there was a series called "The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby Doo".
Coincidence?
Now that's a good marriage. The wife says "Don't!" and the husband stops immediately.
Id LOVE to see you guys react to SERIAL MOM (1994) .... another Matthew Lillard movie that actually came out BEFORE scream. It was one of my favorite childhood campy slasher films. kind of ridiculous should make you guys laugh.
Fun fact! Since you mentioned Scooby-Doo....In the mid 80s there was a show called The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo...... one of the main voice actors was Vincent Price
I love this movie so much & the fact it has Matthew Lillard in made me so incredibly excited when I first watched it as a kid I adore him
Some of the ghosts in this movie really scared me when I was a kid. The Jackal especially and The Juggernaut were the two that stayed with me. Even if some of the film is cheesy, I think they did the ghosts pretty well.
This is another one of those guilty pleasure movies I love to watch. Also as always Matthew Lillard was the highlight of this movie.
I think the misses will like this movie a lot
Zoinks!
Honestly I'd love to she a second remake but as a 13 episode tv show preferably with Mathew back.
The Frighteners yes
I never expected Monk doing some ghost hunting as side gig 😮😂
I still have a crush on Shannon Elizabeth.
This has residents evil vibe to me. Ghost looked like a teenager drawing.
When i see Matthew lillards it reminds me of movies like 'Shes all that, The curve, SLC punk, Hackers and Without a paddle. Early 2000s was very flashy
I always forget that this movie shares a song from its soundtrack with Queen of the Damned.
I remember seeing this in theaters. 🤣
The black chick that played Maggie in the movie is Rah Diggah.
Remember seeing this a long time ago around the time it came out. Definitely have a soft spot, and it will always be a guilty pleasure.
Remake Madness! I went to see this at the cinema too, and in front of us were a group of 5 girls, and one of them accidentally said to the cashier: "Could we get 13 tickets to see 5 Ghosts". Not even joking. All of us cracked up in line.
Lol that was a great scooby doo joke about him having dry mouth loved it
I really like this movie and the acting. Matthew Lillard is awesome.
He is actually a really cool guy to meet as well. An actor who is quite famous and extremely humble. I got to see him at a meet and greet years ago and he was extremely nice and took the time to talk with everyone in line for an autograph and a pic. Just an awesome dude!
@@Tacomaguy458 That's cool. I hope they schedule him and Skeet again this October at our ScareFest convention.
28:53 he really bent over backwards to try and save that family.
20:39 what this house is, is it machine. But not just any type of machine is actually a puzzle box. Similar to the one from HELLRAISER.... These puzzle boxes, or as they're called Pandorices are designed to open pathways into HELL, OR HEAVEN.... THE ENERGY IT NEEDS IS DRAWN BY THE GHOST.. each of the ghosts were specifically chosen, as they depict the black zodiac. A darker version of the astronomical zodiac.
1 *The First Born Son*
2 *The Torso*
3 *The Bound Woman*
4 *The Withered Lover*
5 *The Pilgrimes*
6 *The Torn Prince*
7 *The Angry Princess*
8 *The Great Child*
9 *The Dire Mother*
10 *The Hammer 🔨*
11 *The Jackel*
12 *The Juggernaut*
13 *The Lost Soul*
The jackal was creepy af, terrified me when I was younger
I feel like the backstories for all the different ghosts in this movie are more interesting than the actual movie. There's so many origins that could've been short films by themselves. And it a shame because you never actually learn about the ghosts backstories in this movie. Their backstories are in the bonus features on the DVD.
Vincent Price was in the OG House on the Haunted Hill not the OG 13 Ghost. Vincent Price 'appeared' in the Scooby Fo cartoon version of 13 Ghosts.🦊
Shaggy has had a hell of a life that started after having a tv dropped on his face.
Pls do Michael J Fox
THE FRIGHTENERS
ITS so good
Dark Castle started out as a studio to do fun, modernized remakes of the classic Castle horror movies.
Didn't Gunn help do some rewrites for this too? seem to remember seeing something that he changed up Lillards dialogue to make it more comedic
@@coreycarnegie5990 He did have some uncredited rewrites on it, from what I've read.
@stevensauer8539 glad to know it wasn't just a dream haha! But yeah I remember the petting zoo line being one of them
Scooby Doo did a Thirteen ghosts limited series in 1985. Each episode they must capture a different ghost.
The machine had an obvious flaw: it had multiple levers that would control it's movement. So, the ideal solution would be: a single lever that can be moved into only one way. Nobody would be able to fiddle with it then.
My favorite ghost is the Jackyl. When I got the DVD of this there was a bonis DVD that discribed the origins of each ghost. lots of love guys
She was too afraid to credit the boobies 😅
Welcome back to You, me and the spoooookiiiiies 😂😂😂
I loved the editing in this movie 🤣🤣🤣. Everybody’s got their own taste tho.
Such a great movie. Very creative and super-fun.
Protagonist motivation: Needs a bigger home to avoid getting knocked in the shins with a skateboard. The stakes are pretty high here! 🤣
