      My biggest mistake was ever thinking I'd get to see eljay livestream. Really mah boy, 2:00am today? Time zones are dumb. Seriously though, your videos are always bang on with their message. I think my biggest mistake was not investing in a proper mic soon enough. Every stream I hear the same things, "Too quiet, can't hear you, turn mic up" and honestly, I feel bad because I've done all I can with the mic and now all I can do is say, "Just bear with it for now". It's almost to the point where I don't want to stream until I get my mic because I'm just ruining the experience.

      Hey, sorry to ask that, but how do u credit porperly over Twitch when u use a song? For exemple, let's say I want to use all the song from the 4 creators that gave us opportunity to use it : Do I have to put all titles and names of each song that I can potentially use, or can I just say "Songs : GameChops, Yung Bae, Hyper Potions, Chillhop Musics" ? What is the proper way to to do it?

    Not comparing to others and their growth.
    It is hard sometimes, but the best is to remember that you aren't the others and they aren't you.
    Comparing yourself to someone that had a completely different journey as you and is by default another person, is not fair to yourself.
    I had a great time comparing myself to myself from one stream to another and to see where I actually changed for the better.
    Like I try to change at least one little detail every stream.
    Doesn't matter if it's the location of my light source to cast less shadow on me, the way I talk or how I move.
    Every little detail will add up more later and I can look back and be proud of my own achievements over time. 🙂

    Biggest mistake I've made is Overcommitting, I made a claim to myself that I would stream constantly but never set a schedule. I very quickly realized I could not deliver to my own commitment and it almost prevented me from ever trying again. I have just recently convinced myself to try again and found your videos when looking to see what I was doing wrong. You have helped light that fire again and gave me some good ways to make sure I am having fun and building my community that I am looking for. I have changed my target of why am I streaming and have set realistic goals for myself.
    Genuinely, Thank you.

    Biggest mistake? Biting off more than I could chew when it came to days I could stream was the biggest but there was also what times I streamed, how long I streamed, streaming incredibly oversaturated games and not putting in enough research before hand to know how it all worked.
    I tried streaming four times a week while being a front line care worker and it COMPLETELY killed my enthusiasm for it, I started too early so I never had enough time to meet my intended start time at a relaxed pace, never had time to game with my friends either due to how long I streamed for and because I was learning as I went along, there were always delays.
    Only reason I kept going as long as I did was because my friends had subscribed to me after I randomly got raided and was instantly made affiliate and I felt guilty wasting their money lmao! I went off it completely for three months but now I'm slowly getting back into it and using tutorials/tips videos to hopefully build up a nice little community. That's how I found your series actually, so thanks for the videos, they've been fairly helpful so far!

    Thanks for all the work you do, helping a lot of people with it!
    Regarding Point 2: Hype can be a double edged sword, not just with streams but also games, like CP77 had the hype and they, well... yeah. Where Apex legends was just released without a big fuzz beforehand and became one of the staples in battle royale instantly. Same goes for streams, the more you hype, the highe the chance that people will be disappointed by it

      Hype is a powerful tool that must be used wisely!

  • @valmayorbruh
    @valmayorbruh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One my biggest mistakes/problems is probably not knowing how to plan the stream? I mean when I go live, I can keep on talking about the game, what I'm doing, real life stories or just strike random conversations with chatters, but I never really have a solid direction to go for every stream. It's like I hit live and it's all random from there lol. That and the occasional audio problems here and there.
    As always, awesome vid man!

    I've done all of 3 streams at this point but I had a bit of an epiphany today- I was playing a less popular game (like you'd said in another vid :P) and got a brand new person in chat. We talked back and forth a little bit, but it was right when I died for the 4th time in a row and started going on about how I'm Good At Games they immediately followed and started talking a lot more. It was the first time that I'd really gone all out with my own sense of humor, and they really liked it! This isn't really related to this video, but I've been watching your channel lately so I feel like I have you to credit for a lot of the 'good' choices I'm making for my streams, so thank you for what you do :D

    I'm just starting streaming and already made the mistake of doing different themes every night. So here's what my schedule looked like, basically Tuesday was Nioh (with potential for going on to Nioh II when complete.), Wednesday was no man's sky, Friday was horror games, Saturday was random games and Sunday was old school adventure games. Needless to say I've only been getting like 3 viewers and only at 22 followers. This was a massive eye opener, I thought just having a schedule in place was the best idea but now I'm going to really think about my content and stream the same game on weekdays and do my tabletop roleplaying events on the weekend. Thanks so much for the help!

  • @laner.845

    I get to do one or two long evening streams a quarter outside of my short morning streams, and I have to plan them well in advance around work and family obligations, so the only way I'm cancelling is if I'm too sick to sit up and talk to people. I do hype those a little. Otherwise, I only post that I'm going live maybe 25% of the time when I remember to drop the link on twitter or in the hardcore WoW discord. So yeah, usually you're not going to want to hype outside of a basic "going live" post in your discord or twitter, but knowing when *TO* hype is also something worth learning. And then learning *how* to hype correctly for those few times.
    I did a Santa tracker Christmas Eve stream and for a week it was ALL THE HYPE and boy did it deliver! With some advanced notice and widespread messaging, we had quite a few folks send in pics for an ugly sweater contest and the winner got a month of game time on me. Channel points were being dropped left and right to make me sing carols (I had no idea so many people had that many points stashed, but now they're out and saving up again). Chat hype every time Santa got near one of the viewers. It was EPIC! It was also a one-time thing. Maybe again next year if I'm off work again. Who knows. But it was super special and totally hypable.

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My hype mistake was referring to BIG event streams, fancy new badges, alerts, etc not every single stream :) It's fine to say "Let's Go!" and get people keen for a normal stream.
      I love the santa tracking stream, very cool!

    • @laner.845

      @@PoisonPod my twitch is teryl_brat42 and I'd love to see you stop by. I work nights so I stream mornings US time M-W-F 8:30-10:30am CT. I play World of Warcraft Classic and I'm part of the hardcore community. My main goal is get to level 60 without dying. If I die, I delete the toon and start over. It's a pretty big community with a lot of great streamers (some who also stream retail WoW and regular Classic). If that sounds up your alley, stop on by and we'd be happy to entertain you!
      So as not to over-hype and underwhelm, my normal morning streams are not as exciting as the one described above. I put maximum effort into the big all-night ones, but the little ones are to relax after work and chat with friends. I'm starting to look into enabling chat games through StreamElements, but I work full time also and there are only so many hours in the day after work and family obligations. :D

    I have been doing some form of content creation for years, and discovered OBS back in high school. Whenever I needed to record, I'd always save my mic and desktop audio to separate tracks. It didn't even occur to me that I couldn't do that on stream, and so only streamed my mic for nearly 5 hours on my first stream. Other than that hiccup I'd say my worst mistake was giving up on the idea of multistreaming before actually giving it a try, something I'll be correcting next week.

    TLDR. Don't worry so much about stuff, have fun and do what you can when you can.
    I had a big life thing happen a bit over a year ago which brought me from streaming 5 days a week to not being able to stream for half a year... Then I brought back streaming once a week and only played games I really enjoyed and honestly my streams have been infinitely better in my return. I don't know if it's just me being super excited to be there, the games I play etc but I use to stream to MAYBE 20 people and the other week I had like 60 people just chillin watching me play Rimworld. It's very much not something I take SUPER seriously but I have SO MUCH FUN I have a hard time logging out, even when it's like 3am. I think that the thing I really messed up was thinking I could schedule it hard and make it, but the reality is whenever I try to push for something it all falls apart. So... I'm honestly just keeping it a fun side gig and if I can find more time in my future I will invest a lot more into it. But for now, I am really happy. And that's what matters. The chat is full of amazing people who make time to come out every Tuesday and I'm even more pumped to make content and stream.

    Thank you for the amazing content it has really helped my stream out and after a couple of months i got to affiliate on christmas day. My tip would be don't spend money on fancy stream overlays. I spend about £30 on an animated overlay really early on and the very next day discovered your channel with the amazing free ones. Since then I have made my own minimalistic overlay and don't even use the one i bought. My moral is save your money for the stuff that really matters like a good microphone or some good lighting. Thanks again for the tips

    Sounds good, I was somewhat wondering what streamers go through when their popular game was not fun for them but fun for chat. I don't think I'll worry too hard about setting big goals or anything but I guess I would need to do something once in a while to spice things up. I just gotta make sure it works. I hope I don't have too much a problem banning someone who needs banned.

    I have a idea for a series of videos, might I suggest having viewers enroll for a chance to have their streams reviewed by you. You could give some pointers here and there. Perhaps you could then visit again later on to see if your advice was acted upon or how the streams are fairing since your “intervention”.
    For me, I’ve been seeing a fair bit of growth on Twitch recently and am motivated to deliver the best content I possibly can and would simply love to have some input on what I can improve.
    Thanks again for making the videos you do. I find your advice refreshing compared to the typical advice you see on TH-cam.

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We did look into it! Sadly we most likely we won't be doing it any time soon though. Out of the few hundred submissions we received no one really needed specific advice. There were a handful of great streamers but everyone just needed to hear the same things we've covered on the channel.
      Don't stream oversaturated categories, level your mic properly, turn off follower only chat, get rid of the donation goals, etc, etc.
      Once we grow a bit more we are going to look at doing it again, but right now we'd just be repeating content and people won't like that. Sorry again! We really wanted to but yeah!

    My biggest mistake was trying to stream and overcommit to the point that I stopped streaming for a year and a half. I lost passion and was severely discouraged because I paid attention at all times to viewers. Now I took it back up and changed to do what I enjoyed. I’m still small but I went from 17 to 70 followers in about a month (not great I know but I was kind of proud), but reached affiliate a bit early which almost dragged me down again. I almost made the mistake of trying to concentrate on… market stuff… and quickly reeled back and kept my focus on the important aspect of having fun and growing a community. I still want to grow but I know I need to keep a level head.

    My first stream I got way more views than I anticipated. My first mistake was choosing getting over it to play thinking I would get through it easily. I can breeze through a lot of games of different varietys so I assume without playing it that it wouldn't be an issue. If you're a gamer I would advise to at least play a little of the game you're gonna play first, at least then you'll know if it's stream worthy for you because some games work for other people but not you. Honestly tho I think people just stuck around to watch me suffer, i'm just glad my computer crashed halfway through.

    Just recently started streaming once a week, while also making videos for YT, Insta and Tiktok. my first couple of streams were great fun and ran smoothly. my most recent one, i spent the first 25 minutes fiddling with audio because my settings had changed on my pc for some reason. my fault for not loading up SLOBS and running the game and checking all my levels before actually going live. Ended up losing a view viewers right at the start because of it. Also, when i started streaming i spent less time on YT content so my average views declined a fair bit there. Learned my lesson on consistency hahaha.

    My biggest mistake and sometimes still is, is picking my streams apart and comparing them to my friends streams or someone else that I follow streams. Just because they have more viewers or are growing faster does NOT mean my stuff is bad. I have a small community but I love them to bits and pieces. I need to remember that as long as me and my chat are having fun it doesn't matter if I grow at all. It would be amazing to have more viewers obviously but I need to remind myself that I need to keep my current viewers engaged and having fun. And most importantly I need to be having fun.

    My biggest mistake was using voicemod throughout the entire stream... At the time I really didn't like the sound of my voice, though still really wanted to stream. I wasn't reviewing the stream, since I wasn't saving them afterward didn't realize how bad it was. After I saved & reviewed the stream, I realized the voicemod sounded horrible on stream & 50% of the words were actually recognizable. Now I use my natural voice with the occasional voicemod (actually understandable this time) via channel point redemptions. Also, since I hear myself a lot more, I've come to like my voice, at least enough that I don't cringe each time I hear it.

    • @StreamScheme

    I have a question about the set goals, in my case follower goals, would it be okay to put a follower count on screen till I reach affiliate, or it would clutter the screen for future vods? Should I take it more easy and let things take it course, or start taking actions when they get too slow?
    Btw do you use obs studio or slobs for streaming, which do you recommend? Keep the good work coming!

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OBS is less clutter but also less built in features, so easier on the CPU. You need to know more about broadcasting software and plugins to get the most out of OBS.
      Streamlabs is a bit heavier on the CPU but comes with more so it is easier for beginners. They both have their pros and cons, I find SLOBS is better to start with if your pc can handle the extra 10% (which also pretty much doesn't exist if you run it as an administrator).
      For follower goals, you can, I did it when I started but I tried to only do it when I was doing community nights because it was about growth and community. It's a "play with it and see how you feel" kinda situation.

    My biggest mistake on twitch is trying to do self-promotion , not okay and I had no idea that they had fundamentals and rules to the game

    Im trying so hard on youtube and twitch. I REALLY WANNA QUIT but I'm still trying

      While this is in no way telling you to quit or give up, I will say your mental health and enjoyment is the most important thing. If you aren't enjoying it, then taking a break won't hurt you. Just do what you love.

    How on Earth do you set that up! That is awesome!
    As a designer... I REALLY want to make this match my stream 🤣

    My biggest mistake was getting too friendly with some viewers and then them prying into my private life really put me off of streaming

      Oof that can be a rough one, need to keep it all separate!

      @@StreamScheme yeah really made me rethink what I was doing and now I'm in a better mindset and hopefully wont deal with anything like this again.
