PATHFINDER Adventure Card Game - Game play Set Up

- In this video, I will go thru the basic steps for setting up the hero and location decks for a scenario as specified in the adventure Storybook. Setting up for Scenario 1C: The Wizard's Estate.
Please note that while the Dragon's Demand Path does allow adding all cards from the Core Set (except banes higher than 1) to the vault for Adventure 1, I have also only included boons of level 0 and 1. When in doubt, "Play it Your Way" ... it's basically a card driven RPG, so have fun!! Hope you enjoy.

Summary of main updates with this new version:
1. Adventure Path, Adventure, and Scenarios of previous version have been replaced with a Storybook (a small rulebook for the adventure).
2. Scenario specifies story banes as either villain, henchmen or danger.
3. Scenario specifies whether henchmen allow you to close the location or not.
4. Generic card proxies have been created to use instead of needing multiple copies of every henchmen (lessens cost of game, and allows for additional new cards.
5. Instead of characters being represented by a card, stand-up pawns are provided. (But you can also purchase painted miniatures for most of the characters!)
6. New game terms have been included in the game, and old terms replaced. Rulebook has a great glossary describing each keyword along with where to find it in the rulebook.
7. Each adventure has directions for building and upgrading the vault (available cards in the box for characters and locations.)
8. Blessings reformatted to easily highlight their power while in the hourglass (timer), and powers while in play.
9. Characters can now be proficient with traits in addition to card types.
10. Cards can be vulnerable or resistant to other traits, allowing either a +4 bonus or -4 penalty to checks.
11. Recovery of cards to be banished are handled differently at the end of the turn.
12. Many options to make the game easier or harder depending on your preferences.
13. Detailed explanation on how to use cards from older sets.

I'm a little lost. So if we are doing the first part of adventure 1 of dragon's demand (1*). Is it just supposed to be just level 0 stuff since we're new or level 1 and 0? I can't seem to find any help in the rulebooks.
This was a very well done video thank you very much. It definitely cleared up quite a few things.
For your first play, you will construct your character deck with only “0” cards, but location decks are always made from random cards of the specified type in the vault (typically the level of the scenario and lower). For future games you can construct your character deck with cards that you acquire during play (or cards of your adventure level minus 2, with a minimum of 0). Confusing? ... If you have a Rulebook look through the following: Page 4 “Build your Deck”, page 17 “Rebuilding” and then in the Adventure Path booklet “Building the Vault”, and “Upgrade the Vault”. tim G Most changes are minor. Instead of adventures and scenarios being on cards, it’s in a book, and keywords are updated. I’ve listed more items in the description. Hope this helps.

Sorry I'm like 2 years late lol, but just got Skulls and Shackles for this and have alot of cards. Can you buy those colored named dividers you have in the box? Or where did you print them off of
Thanks for watching, and hope you like Skulls and Shackles! The dividers came in the 2nd edition of the game, nothing wrong with the first, they just put all the "extra packs" in one box instead of 6 or 7. Happy gaming! :)

I have the original set. Goofy letter and numbers on card. Im guessing 'B' is basic (level 0), 'C' is character pack (level 0) and then any numbers like '1' are level 1

Great to see Pathfinder cg and everything in the box being displayed. This simplified the setup and is much clearer than what’s in the manual I downloaded. Great video series on this game...Thank you! How many uberstax are you using for this game? How many would you recommend buying since they seem to come in packages of six
Thanks for watching. For the “character stands” I used 6 stax, and each section for locations 5. So depending on the number of players, you may need to adjust. I got a few packs to start with, then went in for the 10 pack deal. They definitely have come in handy for many games!

Do you have a video on how you setup your box? I played WotR and the base set had the inside already setup. I feel like they slacked on the core set.
No video, but I remember getting everything from the core box and expansion in the core box using dividers per level.
An important thing that you got wrong; Building Valerous happens outside the Rebuilding Phase of Seoni so you can't just keep Amari's Cards for Valerous.
What you COULD do is have Seoni keep cards from Amari's deck by putting it into her own. Then build Val's deck with level 0 cards and finally trade them with Seoni to jumpstart Val's deck.
The downside is it kinda messes up Seoni's deck in the process and limits which cards see could keep from Amari (i.e probably just one weapon could be saved since Seoni doesn't really use her weapon, if ever).

Ive just played the first scenario and it rewards me with a level 1 boon, does this add to my card count or do i have to remove and replace a boon with the new one?
Congrats! You'll need to remove another card to get it to fit in using your deck list on your character card. Good luck!

@BoNeZ A lot depends on the wording of the card. Refer to the "Rules: Skills, Dice, and Modifiers" table on page 11 of the core set rulebook. Hopefully that will answer the question for you. I learned a lot of this game by mistakes, and people watching correcting me. :)
I having a blast with that game, altough its been moved to legacy, i still hope Paizo release more adventure paths for it in the future
I subbed to your channel … really good quality and good explanation … you made me buy pathfinder core set and the crimson expansion … QUESTION … can you mix cards from the expansion into the core set for the first scenarios or the cards must stay for each scenarios ?
Thanks! The Crimson expansion allows you to play up to six characters, so cards from the set would be needed ... so I see no issue with adding from the set for 4 or less characters. The scenario will set your locations and villains, but the items in the locations could be anything. Enjoy the game!!
@@DaletheCasualGamer maybe you understood me wrong ... Lets say i want To start the core set scenarios ... And i have the crimson expansion, can i mix the cards from that expansion into the core set so that i can use the cards of crimson for the core scenarios ... Like the speels, weapons, Armor etc ... Or its scénario base
@@munchinkin I don't believe the rules state one way or the other, but I would say "yes". Additional cards = more variability. :)

@@munchinkin I demoed a 4 player game, and we needed some additional Items, so there were some Crimson items in my Dragon solo play through ... but for a $50 expansion, put them in and enjoy! :)
