  • Today we learn how to play the pathfinder adventure card game. These rules are universal among the other pathfinder ACG box sets although there are some variations in special rules and themes.

    I agree completely about the rulebook, it does not explain a lot of things.
    It is only by watching you guys that makes gameplay easier and more enjoyable.
    Nice tutorial.
    Regards.

    This is the best beginners guide I have found. Thanks for making it in a way that makes sense! I'm actually looking forward to playing the game now that I have an understanding of how everything works.

    I am now on my 3rd attempt to try and learn this game and I want to enjoy it so much. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who finds the rulebook awful and this video extremely helpful! Thank you so much! 3rd time IS the charm!

    Really enjoyed this well made and well explained tutorial. Thanks, as this is a very confusing card game for beginners. Some of the rules, actions, enemies and items were unclear to me exactly what was intended. I feel much better now, as far as understanding what happens when, who can do what, and how to handle x or what to do if y...etc... Thanks again!

    I'm revisiting my copy of RotR to finish off the final Adventure pack. Haven't played in years and cannot remember a lot of points of play. So thank you for this video to allow me to refresh my playing of Pathfinder: ACG

    Thanks for doing this.
    When you defeat a villain, it doesn't always go back into the box. If any location is open, the villain goes there. (As you cover later in the video.)
    If you don't have a skill listed for a check -- say Divine for acquiring a blessing -- you can still attempt the check. Your die is a d4. Sometimes discarding a blessing to attempt a Divine 5 check to acquire a blessing using 2d4 is a good play.
    The Temple is a bad example for failing a henchman close -- if you fail to defeat a henchman, he goes back in the deck, so you'll get a chance to close the location if you defeat him the next time you see him. The times you have to empty the location of cards in order to close it are when you do defeat the henchman but fail the closing check.
    When playing higher adventure decks, when you replace a banished card, or add a card by a card feat, and your party doesn't have a card of the type you need, you can take a card from the box which has an adventure deck number 2 less than your current adventure or lower (it doesn't have to be Basic).
    I don't know what you are talking about with your technicality. When you start Adventure 1, you add the Adventure 1 cards to the box. When you start Adventure 2, you add the Adventure 2 cards to the box. It's very straightforward. (There are rules for removing cards from the game -- they are on the Adventure Path card.)

    If you have your five cards and you can acquire another card , can you take that card and recharge it or do you have to discard one of your cards and keep the one you added to your hand by your initial action ?
    Thanks.

    • @CynicallyAwesome
      @CynicallyAwesome  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      when you acquire a card, you can continue your turn as normal until you end your turn and have to reset your hand (you freely discard cards as you wish, then MUST discard cards until you are at your maximum hand size, then or draw back up to your hand size if you have less)

    Thanks for this video really helpful. I just got the Wrath of the righteous base set so this came in handy on how to atleast learn to play the game. I flipped through the rule book and it was confusing. So once again thanks for making this video.

    So blessings that have the add 1 die to any check like the blessings of the gods could be used on someone else turn wherever there at to help them?

    • @CynicallyAwesome
      @CynicallyAwesome  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, each player may contribute cards in this way- the only restriction is they couldn't contribute multiple of the same type.
      So player 2 can contribute an item and a blessing that allow them to add dice to another player's check and player 3 can add a blessing as well, but player 4 can't add 2 blessings- they can only use one

    When you move on to higher level scenarios, do you have to acquire and keep the higher level cards within the scenarios, or do you get to select them before starting?

    What's the difference in temporarily closing a location and permanently closing a location? Also do you only have to defeat the henchmen if you want to permanently closed the location? Thanks.

    • @CynicallyAwesome
      @CynicallyAwesome  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      temporarily closing a location means there are less places for a henchman to run to which means you could direct them to a specific location or cause them to kill themselves because there are no locations left.
      To close a location, im pretty sure you have to fulfill the requirement on the location when the deck becomes empty (but i dont have the rulebook in front of me atm)

    The only thing i dont get is what "temporarily closed" means. As example Person A closes the location temporarily, it's persons B and C turn one after another - Does the location get opened again when it's Person A's turn again or when Person B is ending his turn?

    • @CynicallyAwesome
      @CynicallyAwesome  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Temp closing only happens when you find the boss of your session; you do it to try and trap them to win the game early
      Let's say there are 3 open locations and 2 players. Player A explores his location and finds the boss and defeats him- now he's going to try and run away, player B is at a different location and successfully closes their location temporarily, so the boss can't run to it, but he can still run to the third location extending the game. On player B's turn, the location would open back up again
      If player B's location was the only open location and they managed to temp close it, the players win because the boss can't run away to anywhere. It's a good way to end the game in a pinch.

    I don't think you are using the time counter deck right. You have to use the time deck card for your search, unless you use a card in your hand.
