    Tyler, your instrument cluster is dead while driving??? Me too!!! Im in Ireland with 2006 CLS55AMG. Same instruments (VDO) The MCU chip is faulty. If its heated up it will work but eventually dies. You must get and MCU from another AMG cluster that came from car with similar functions as yours as Airmatic,SBC hold and hood open warnings are stored on it. Its a FUJITSU chip. Just after getting mine repaired. Greetings from Ireland. John

      If that's true, you might not even need a replacement unit, as the one on the car is likely to be working just fine, unless it shorted or overheated to the point it started to melt. Just take out the board and visually inspect it. If you can't see any physical damage on the board, It's likely that the solder on one, or several of the pins on the chip has cracked due to heat cycling. Just resolder the chip back on the board and try it again.
      I say this because the are no mechanical moving parts on a circuit board that actually "wear down" with age. I repaired all sorts of circuit boards, and 99% of the time they stop working because a pin somewhere has come loose leading to malfunction or very weird behaviour.

      Well, I have to say, I helped sell a car based on honesty. Granted.... I helped sell a car that the buyer was not looking at, and I kinda screwed the actual sales guy out of a bit of money because the guy was looking at a much more expensive car..... but the guy was happy with his purchase, and the sales guy had a sale, before he knew there was a sale to be made. I helped sell a TV at Walmart when I worked there, but once again, I did not sell the most expensive TV of the size the lady was looking at, but it was still a sale on a nice TV. You can make it as an honest sales person. Do not sell junk, do not try to up sell a person things they do not need or will never use, and listen to their needs and wants to find them a vehicle that actually makes them happy and fits what they can afford. I have watched far too many salesmen sell useless crap (like paint coatings that do not work) and sell people into vehicles they can not truly afford in the long term because of extra options piled on that the customer did not want, or selling a used car that had not been inspected, and was not even from the same dealership chain! I do not deal well with that crap, and I am so glad I no longer work for that company.

    • @pHOneGenIuS2009
      @pHOneGenIuS2009 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of the salesman I've dealt with (after tons of research ) I've always made sure they've sold me a good car. Any time I went and looked at a car, I was steered away from ones with tons of problems.

      @Carstuff111 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pHOneGenIuS2009 Well, the thing with a lot of the dealerships in my area, we have too many, and they are all mostly chains either family owned types of things. And recently, one of those family owned dealerships was absorbed by another, because of some VERY dirt bag business practices. But all of these local chains, have a bad habit of using underhanded sales tactics, both for new and used cars. Arkansas has some weird laws, and it turns out it is really easy to exploit people and get away with it...mostly.

    This happened to my Mercedes. I lost the pcm in a hurricane and Mercedes put a new one in. Then it happened again twice! I figured out the sunroof had a leak in the tube that takes the water to drain to the ground and it was perfectly leaking into the PCM.

    • @FlashDriveFilms
      @FlashDriveFilms 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      That's what I'm guessing too. I suspect a clogged drain in the fresh air intake tray just in front of the windshield. That fills with water, overflows, and washes down on any number of assorted modules. Result: Disco Dashboard and all sorts of funky actions by the electrical system. (like the headlight washer spasm) Clear those drains in front of the cowl, and it should be good for a while.

    I had something similar happen where the instruments went nuts and engine would not shut off on a car and also lock itself with the keys inside. Tracked it down to an unused electrical connection under the carpet that some water had found its way to it and pooled enough just to short out the pins.
    Tracking the fault down was a game of looking at the vehicle wiring diagram and finding what circuits were common to all the items exhibiting problems. Then pulling the fuses to those circuits one by one only to find one common circuit was still getting power to it even with the fuse pulled. Went on pulling fuses till eventually power stopped appearing on the circuit that was supposed to be isolated. Knowing which two circuits were involved I was able to trace the one point in the vehicle where they both appeared on the same (wet corroded) connector. Once it was dried and all the corrosion cleaned off all was good and sorted so that it would not happen again.
    But as I had everything apart by this point I also went around cleaning up all the ground points for good measure.

      Semo 1104 I’ve owned many mercs and BMWs and all my mercs I’ve owned past 100,000 miles, the most I ever put on a bmw was 60,000 miles which was in my E61. We got the car used after one year with 18k, the car was on average in the shop every three months. The first problem arose the day we drive it home. For example, during the same period of time I had a w204 C300 that we also got used after one year and about 20k miles, it was beat to shit and got rear ended a few times HARD in so cal traffic, it had its first problem at 120,000 miles... Mercedes is the only German brand I would buy and not lease. We leased an X5 which was in the shop every six months, we had a brand new e class that only had one problem during the time we owned it... so based on my history and experience the mercs are way more reliable than shitty Mercedes. I will admit during the Daimler Chrysler days the cars were not only shit, but built like shit. The w204 and w212 were the cars that brought them back to life and marked an end to building shitty cars.

I would just pull it out as slides out with fuse and relay box, disconnect cables as easy enough to do and remove plastic cover and check for signs of corrosion. It is a shot in the dark, without knowing where water getting into. I've seen many MB with these freak issues- always water related. One tip: you shouldn't only look at the F-SAM and R-SAM. look at the CAN Bus distributors under the carpets in the front L and R foot-wells- those are very common places to have water built-ups sometimes you can even feel the moisture with your hands when touching the floor lining, other times it is necessary to lift the floor lining and feel beneath. if this is the case and you find moisture in there- make sure that the water drains are clear (the ones that drain the water from the windshield) as they tend to clog up in the W211 series causing this type of issues. Good luck, Rimon.

    I'm starting to wonder whether AMG stands for All Money Gone.

      @@regane.bartko7247 I admit that my German is pretty rusty. I used to be able to speak it fluently, but the last time I've been to Germany was in 2006. And I haven't really spoken the language since. But I'm pretty sure that saying "all mein Geld" is grammatically acceptable?

    More likely it is the SAM module but also shows some symtoms of a failing EIS (electronic ignition switch).

    Hey Hoovie!
    I have a 211 220cdi that i struggled with simmilar problems.
    You should check the BCM (battery control module), it is located in the spare wheel well.
    Theese wagons have issues with leaking trunk gaskets and rubber guides. This allows the spare wheel compartment to fill up if the drains are clogged.
    You should also check for water under passanger side footwell, under driver side footwell. And check for any windshield wiper fluid leaks in the rear right of the car on the right rear strut tower (inside the car). There is a black connector that on my car leaked on my car, can easily check it if you use the rear wiper sprayer for a while.
    And the best advise i can give you if this does not work is to check ground points and use a Star diagnosis machine, theese give you alot more information on canbus faults.
    I would also check the main fuse blocks in the car for loose fuses.
    Really hope this helps, theese cars are amazing machines, but the is always something to fix ahah😂👍
