I had a very similar experience as you're having, my L5P DPF filter got choked up in Traverse City, MI 700 miles away from home (I do hotshot). I had a buddy drive all the way up there, hooked up to my trailer and hauled me back home in his 6.0 powerstroke. If you're looking for a quick temporary fix, cut the DPF out, power wash it out then use exhaust clamps or weld it back up and do a regen. The problem that caused the DPF to choke up ended up being a failed exhaust manifold gasket. Other than that my 2019 L5P has 220k on it and still pulling strong! Good luck!

This makes me think of the video Gale Banks did comparing the Derringer to the Pulsar. He kept beating on the fact that the Pulsar would plug up the DPF. Not saying thats definitely whats going on here, but it sure does look like exactly what he was explaining. Food for thought...

The poof you heard early in the trip was likely the charge pipe blowing off and from that point on, it didn't stand a chance of regening. It was probably leaking when your power began to fall off. Hey Josh Car wizard did a video about trucks you shouldn't buy and he was talking about DPF and what happened in this video is exactly what he was talking about
So question about how this happened? I know it's the rules from the government etc.. but would a stock duramax of that year have those issues or was it the tune combined with the EGR crap that ended up causing this? I've heard of Fords having this issue with the 6.0 but never the duramax. Had the same thing happen to my 07. Blew both sides of the down pipe off. Right outside Denver. Got that fixed, to find out the dpf was completely stopped up. Ended up shipping it home to texas.
With all the issues with the EGR, DPF, DEF systems,, it is clear the desk monkeys at the EPA do not know anything. In your part 1, I made a comment how ridiculous this garbage is. Since I can not delete, even tough we don't do smog . I'll just trade it in around 100k miles. What is really stupid is a correctly tuned diesel won't smoke & runs far more efficient & 20% to 30% increase in mileage
Once that charge pipe comes off and especially how long it was driven, pull the MAP sensor. It will be packed full of soot and cause erratic fueling and regen. Likely over fueled the engine and packed the DPF full of soot. Super common on the L5P engine. But it all comes down to that charge pipe coming off..
So glad you made it back to post this. After seeing this I learn to count my blessings and realize things could be worst. You and your brother have been keeping great spirits on all this. It's time you guys start thinking of Movie rights and Action Figures after all this. 😆
@@BromanteGaming it's pretty hard to remove it in a parking lot without cutting...if not impossible. He could have cut a piece out before the dpf to keep the engine running, it would throw codes and derate/limit speed after awhile
Time to lighten the truck up…the DPF & DEF fluids may be good for the environment but they choke the crap out of the engine. I’m glad you made it out ok…take care and God bless…David.
Really can't wait to learn about what happened with your truck and why the dpf got so backed up like it did. Glad you got back home safe. I was in a similar situation back in the winter when my trailer broke a leaf spring with a skid steer and I blew my tires. I was stranded 1½ hours from home till my dad brought out another trailer to transfer the machine and I had to drag the trailer home on 3 wheels. Fun times
Looking forward to Part 3 to see if you were right. I'm nearly 100% certain it is everything with the damn emissions crap they make us put on these trucks.
To late probably to tell you that you can put a diesel fuel additive in.. works with a tuner an injectors to burn soot hotter faster. Works on the LLY everytime...
So I changed the fuel filter on my LMM yesterday and then it wouldn’t start. Pumped on it until my arm was about to fall off. I didn’t know about the little value above the alternator. Released the air pressure pumped some more and it started. Fought with it for a couple of hours. I found out about that value from one of your videos. Thanks for the info, after seeing this video I think my dpf is about to fall off my truck. I hope all is well with the truck, sorry for all your troubles.
Bro…. What a crazy nightmare…. 3 broken trucks, Hail, 2 days on a park bench, cops, …….struck by lightning? Crazy. Glad you all got back safely. Thank God for good friends👍.
I live in Denver, and I make the trip across Colorado regularly. I have a 2016 Silverado Duramax, have left it stock, and have never had a problem running that route. Have you ever heard of TFL (The Fast Lane)Truck? Located in Boulder, pretty sure they could have gotten you running. By the way, you were stranded at my favorite gas station in Eagle. What is your brother's contact info in C. Springs? His work looked awesome. Might have some work for him. Bless You, Stay withe the "MAX"!
What a nightmare one thing after another and the hail probably dinging the crap out of things. I would pulled the exhaust off and just drove it like that haha
So I'm probably late on responding, and meant to mention when I first watched this, but I've been wanting to see a video of a diesel having these emissions issues, and I know that the way to go is to "take care of it", but I want to see if the Hot Shot's Secret products can revive such issues. Many people use them, but started using them before these issues arose. I use them on my LB7, but I don't have the same problem areas as the newer trucks.
My 21 appears to be doing the exact same thing right now 🙃 I instantly thought back to this video after it stalled and blew a big puff of smoke under the hood
Had a similar situation with a lmm dpf get plugged up and get so hot it welded itself shut left stranded on the side of the road. 5in exhaust for the win emissions suck
i think they are putting something in the fuels - too many folks i know are starting to have these pollution type problems just recently with both gas and diesel!!
awesomeness great vid... but I have 2013 Duramax with problems too...it's sitting in the driveway waiting to get parts that are on a nation wide shortage
I have a 2019 Silverado 2500 HD with a Duramax, I kept it stock and never had an issue. I love your channel but this video is a testament to why I should keep my truck stock. Maybe the GM engineers knew what they were doing.
His truck is mostly stock. The only part that isn't I his intake system. That alone does not have to do with the egr and dpf. He does a lot of towing and traveling in this truck. When the dpf and egr in your truck decide to that they've had enough, you'll know it happens to 100%stock ones too. My neighbor has a 21 Duramax thatis bone stock besides the lift and his truck has 40K miles and has been to the dealer 5 times because of egr and dpf
In his dry way when installed aftermarket exhaust manifold and his egrs went down and truck could not keep high temperature of the exhaust gasses. Then tuner that adds useless problematic power that clogged up dpf
Watch you all the time but cant remember how many miles you have on you l5p.. did you just hit 99k? or curious as if it matters how many miles you have on it matters to getting plugged, or if it could happen to just from not being able to regen several times? Does that make sense?. lol
Damn! Thats one hell of situation! All because of the DPF, shhhhhh! So yeah Thats Colorado Cloud burst! Praying your Truck doesn't get blasted by hail and the lightning will scare the hell out of you! I hope you can get er fixed without much trouble, sorry about your bogus trip threw Colorado Josh and Evil twin bro! Lmm in Colorado 🤠
What if you unbolted the exhaust system to move the truck around...? Couldn't you unbolut the entire exhaust up to the downpipe.. idk just an idea to get it to move...
Truck Master: my dad is thinking about buying the new Duramax Silverado 2500 with the lp5, you know a lot about these engines. How reliable are the lp5’s? Is it a good choice?
You are a smart guy. Why didn’t you unbolt the exhaust in front of the DPF. You could probably trick the truck for a while. Those B&W balls can really get seized it is a dumb design. I put antiseize on mine the stuff is gross but works.
Josh, I am fairly sure when you increase the input, PPE bundle, but don’t increase the output, stock exhaust, you get a backup! The exhaust can’t handle the increased intake performance.
@@repairvehicle you are correct. The air is measured and the fuel is added based on air intake. Additional air+more fuel = stock exhaust not designed to handle the flow. Exhaust is rated on stock intake design.
Any particular reason why you can’t just unbolt the dpf and introduce a controlled exhaust leak before it to get home? Or drill a few holes by the inlet?
There are sensors that measure pressure differences and when computer reads that there is no back pressure it will put truck in limp mode. Otherwise people will be installing flapper doors and bypassing dpf
The DPF is the worst thing to happen to diesel engines
Actually it’s the EGR … forcing exhaust fumes back through the intake … DPF catching soot then burning it … not worse thing …

@@BromanteGaming it's pretty hard to remove it in a parking lot without cutting...if not impossible. He could have cut a piece out before the dpf to keep the engine running, it would throw codes and derate/limit speed after awhile
@@BromanteGaming Not without a tune he can't, especially on the l5p
And this is why I still have both of my 03’ Dodge Cummins, and also a 07’ C5500 Duramax, and have no plans to sell any.
Fun times
Tuner kept dumping more fuel for more power. Dpf system is not designed for more power and more not complete burned fuel which resulted in soot
@@repairvehicle guarantee the cold side boot that was blown off is what caused it to soot the DPF out like that.
@@PierceMaster , loose boot and too much fuel equals wet soot. I am surprised he didn’t catch it sooner with boost gauge
Looking forward to Part 3 to see if you were right. I'm nearly 100% certain it is everything with the damn emissions crap they make us put on these trucks.
It’s not emission it’s a tuner that makes emissions not to work
I've had the same issues I'd like to find some way to take care that problem too
First video to make me question being interested in diesel any longer. Lol. I would've been gave up. 😂😂
What’s weird is that exhaust tip dragging on the ground… 👀 “On the next episode of Truck Master… DELETING MY DPF” 😂😂
To late probably to tell you that you can put a diesel fuel additive in.. works with a tuner an injectors to burn soot hotter faster. Works on the LLY everytime...
Max Mileage Fuel Borne Catalyst from (Pittsburgh Power)
This is the freaking BERMUDA TRIANGLE for trucks.
That's crazy this happened in the Eagle, CO area. I live close by there. Had I known, I would have helped!
Small world
So I changed the fuel filter on my LMM yesterday and then it wouldn’t start.
It’s the “platinum” fluid you put in. Mine did the same until I drained it and replaced it with regular DPF
Was it expired?
Bro…. What a crazy nightmare…. 3 broken trucks, Hail, 2 days on a park bench, cops, …….struck by lightning? Crazy. Glad you all got back safely. Thank God for good friends👍.
Should have tried hitting the regen filter with a rubber mallet to loosen up the gunk and floor it down the highway…
Time to let that dpf go sirrrrrr. Glad you made it back in one piece, and so did the truck.
What a nightmare one thing after another and the hail probably dinging the crap out of things. I would pulled the exhaust off and just drove it like that haha
Did you say your egr was hooked up? I thought the truck was deleted?
So I'm probably late on responding, and meant to mention when I first watched this, but I've been wanting to see a video of a diesel having these emissions issues, and I know that the way to go is to "take care of it", but I want to see if the Hot Shot's Secret products can revive such issues. Many people use them, but started using them before these issues arose. I use them on my LB7, but I don't have the same problem areas as the newer trucks.
That's why people makes dpf disappears
My 21 appears to be doing the exact same thing right now 🙃 I instantly thought back to this video after it stalled and blew a big puff of smoke under the hood
Had a similar situation with a lmm dpf get plugged up and get so hot it welded itself shut left stranded on the side of the road. 5in exhaust for the win emissions suck
What caused it to do that? Did it get that hot during regen?
EGR is the worst thing ever from an actual engine perspective. DPF is not far behind.
I love the content! I would definitely buy a duramax engraved exhaust tip! Good luck with the truck!
i think they are putting something in the fuels - too many folks i know are starting to have these pollution type problems just recently with both gas and diesel!!
If your Dpf was clogged then why not disconnect the exhaust to keep going.
Sensors
That issue happen 1 time to mine it’s being deleted I’m glad you made it safely brother
Nice Ryan diesel helped me out to when I was stranded when they were closing pig tail on injector
awesomeness great vid... but I have 2013 Duramax with problems too...it's sitting in the driveway waiting to get parts that are on a nation wide shortage
I have a 2019 Silverado 2500 HD with a Duramax, I kept it stock and never had an issue. I love your channel but this video is a testament to why I should keep my truck stock. Maybe the GM engineers knew what they were doing.
GM VEHICLES IN GENERAL ARE GARBAGE
His truck is mostly stock. The only part that isn't I his intake system. That alone does not have to do with the egr and dpf. He does a lot of towing and traveling in this truck. When the dpf and egr in your truck decide to that they've had enough, you'll know it happens to 100%stock ones too. My neighbor has a 21 Duramax thatis bone stock besides the lift and his truck has 40K miles and has been to the dealer 5 times because of egr and dpf
Yea I thought this video was a testament to why you don't want to keep it stock and why you should delete the emissions garbage lol.
my dad's stock 2019 Duramax did the same thing as truck masters with 130,000 miles
Got banks six gun on my lly. Never leaves eco tune. Works great. Of course not as complicated as your fellers. And I deleted the egr
I'm very curious when all these problems started, did they start when you went to Nevada and everything else. 🤔
Does that make sense?. lol
Yeah trying to find out where you order your wheel hubs for your big wheels on your Duramax
That’s some badass engraving stuffs 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Ty bro. Much appreciated
I sure am loving my lb7 at this point
Josh,
I am fairly sure when you increase the input, PPE bundle, but don’t increase the output, stock exhaust, you get a backup! The exhaust can’t handle the increased intake performance.
Intake has nothing to do with. Tuner dump too much fuel, unburned fuel creates soot and clogges ups dpf beyond regen can handle
@@repairvehicle you are correct. The air is measured and the fuel is added based on air intake. Additional air+more fuel = stock exhaust not designed to handle the flow. Exhaust is rated on stock intake design.
So glade you got help Josh. Waiting to see what is causing your issue.
The tuner!!
An engraved exhaust tip would be sick also tow hitch’s
How do you like l5p
